possible new sighting!!!

we were out searching the burrow/beach area again tonight when we had a call from a man who said he thought he had seen him about 40 minutes before but didn't have his phone with him. It was along the road just before you reach the sandy lane car park, between the bungalow and saunton sands farm holiday cottages. We got there within 10 minutes and looked all around but saw no sign. Spoke to the man who rang and he said he was cycling the other way when he saw him, got to the farm shop and saw the poster so phoned us when he got back. Showed him Stamfords picture on the phone and he is positive it was him. Really not sure where he would go from there. Could be hiding out in the fields or even took the lane which would end up in braunton. This is a copy of a post on stamfords Facebook page from Claire. Apperently there's also been another sighting in the the same place since

All Fergal's posters have been safely collected and put up in the area by an awesome volunteer. Farm shops, garden centre, guardroom at local marine base and even some tanks on exercise on the beach all now have posters! Can never have too many.
Niki - Area Volunteer, Devon & Somerset
Have informed owner that the police got back to me and said they will not be able to share the poster as not a police matter so unless there's a log number they can't help so up to owner now but at least police are aware that's good.
Niki - Area Volunteer, Devon & Somerset
Have shared lots online and Twitter and am trying to arrange a thunderclap for Stamford will inform when ready. Thinking would be good if some of these flyers are handed into the car park at Saunton beach so they can hand out there also be good to cover croyde and braunton too I
Also if their is any suspision that he may of been stolen then you maybe able to inform the police and get a log number I have sent a poster to Devon and Cornwall police through their Facebook site will wait and see if they receive and share. Please also inform https://www.petlog.org.uk/Last edited: 2015-10-20 21:05:52 by Niki - Area Volunteer, Devon & Somerset

Have printed off 100 flyers and a dozon or so pocketed posters. They are on their way with my neighbour in the morning up to Bideford for one of the helpers to collect and take on to Saunton. I have managed to print the other picture above into the white space on the bottom of the poster, and the flyers as well. Hoping it gives a good representation of him.

Found ref 93468. Owner of Stamford is aware, has been informed by Fergal. Has DW number. Fingers crossed.

Wondering if someone has mistaken Milo for Stamford? Not even same area. Spoken to Dennis now, definitely Stamps is NOT FOUND. Poor Dennis has just had a huge roller-coaster, talking to me, phoning home from work, hoping he was there. Cannot find a post on fb. People still out searching and Dennis is out after 4pm every evening. He is very worried now about an encounter with a well dressed, walker a few weeks ago who mentioned what a nice specimen Stamps is and to be careful he is not 'taken'. The man didn't seem like the normal walking type, or dog walker type. Stamps went up to him like an old friend, which he never does! We must just get STAMFORD's face out there everywhere. He is his owners' little boy, loved tremendously and missed so much. This is breaking his heart, both Dennis and Claire are exhausted but not stopping, and truly grateful for the tremendous help from locals. Dennis, If you do find a likely hole, remember to try the hose and funnel. Check around any fresh water areas, ponds, puddles, troughs, dripping taps, for tracks or signs of him being there.

Owner has contacted both K9search - the bloodhounds need a positive sighting, and fast response, to come out - And K9Tracker Jenny & Tiga are possibly on a search somewhere else in the country if no response yet but keep trying. The heat-seeking camera is a nice idea, on a quick google I notice they can be hired and not sure if they can be attached to drones, though I believe Chris is looking into it. However some sort of calibration exercise would need to be done I imagine to discount rabbits, badgers or other smaller wildlife caught on it. The owner has been out with a torch and searches every day and evening. More people will be out tomorrow to check certain areas brought up on fb posts, and more posters & flyers are being put out by local helpers over the next few days.

Hi KateD01 - I agree with you, and manners cost nothing x I was just wondering though if there was someone with a similar set up to Jenny that was closer by that might be able to help? Maybe the DL co-ordinator for this area might know of someone please? ... And Jasper I don't think that's a stupid idea - It could be worth looking into for sure.

or shining a torch in the dark to see if eyes are reflected
DogLostJasper - Area Volunteer, Somerset
This may well be a stupid idea but I'll throw it in anyway! If you suspect a dog may be stuck somewhere in deep brambles would some sort of heat seeking camera or infra red/ night vision googles be helpful?. I think the former can be hired relatively cheaply- I would imagine you would need a really good one though. Could one be used on a drone at dusk when still light enough to fly low, but the body heat of a dog would still show up?
KateD01
I needed that help for my dog who is still missing and I got one vague response from Jenny and nothing else, so I suggested that if she was unable or unwilling to help people it might be worth removing her details so she doesn't creat false hope for people... It's fine that people can't help its not fine to not respond. Sorry that your dog is missing - we found the sooner you can get the posters up the more it helps - local Facebook pages and websites are really helpful too! Fingers crossed for you...Last edited: 2015-10-19 07:57:19 by KateD01

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but are there any contacts in your area that are able to track scent using a dog? I know there are a few doglost helpers such as Jenny and her dog Tiga that have helped track dogs before by using their own dog to track the scent of the lost dog, especially useful if Stamford isn't the sort of dog to bark to alert you to where he may be snagged up? x

Just a thought when we have walked from the golf club following the path onto the burrows there are some old holidays chalets/huts in amongst the burrows/dunes just wondered if they have been checked? X
DogLostGeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland
Are there any sheds / other buildings (particularly within the boundary of the golf course) which Stamford could have got into then inadvertently got shut in. Maybe equipment sheds that are used infrequently. The same comment could apply to any holiday homes or camp sites in the area with outbuildings.
Susan Garwood
I've shared this on local Ilfracombe sites.

Better luck tomorrow ,its a shame that dogs go silent when they are caught up in something it does not make finding them easy .
BMdevon
The search was so frustrating. Brambles 10 to 12 feet thick in places and the area is vast. Having to be mindful of golfers and not get in their eyeline was difficult too. We won't give up though. Out again tomorrow doing the next area - he's out there somewhere and baring in mind Chloe in Morwenstowe was stuck in a fence for a much longer period we wont' give up :)
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Chris has just posted on fb (Welcome Home Bella) " Ive just come back form the burrows. very frustrating day. Can i ask please that no body asks for other drones to search. Ive had to see 3 people flying there today as it totally stopped me mapping the area. I have re-arranged with the golf club to fly first light in the morning. Just so people know, i met a guy further down who has also lost his dog today and directed him on here, hopefully he will find him. Hope someone has had more luck today"

His picture of a simialar dog is up on other fb pages now
Hollieberry
Good luck for tomorrow's search for this lovely lad if he is anything like my Spaniel he will be caught up in bushes somewhere and hopefully not down a mine shaft .

Dennis, Janis has left a post a a local fb page re what she has noticed today. I have passed the message over to Jan Byles who will be able to relay it to you tomorrow.

That is the area that we searched to no avail there is dogs barking less then 500 meters away down sandy lane.
I have just come off the phone from a jan bile from bideford who are coming over to saunton tomorrow morning and meeting in saunton golf club car park at 8.00 am with some volunteers to help search the area.
Myself and a few friend's are going to be walking around the golf club perimeter fencing to see if we can see anything.
I haven't heard anything from Chris at Altitude58 so i don't know if he flew his drone today.

DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Dennnis, the link is to a map where Janis said she heard a dog bark. The two horizontal white lines, a ditch inside running top to bottom and very overgrown. it is inside the golf course but just off the coast path. But it looks a long way down from where he went missing. Is that where you looked? She said she heard the bark to the right of that area, so it could be outside the golf course grounds, over the fence in any scrub there

Hi all we have been looking over the golf course this evening as some one said that they might of heard a dog barking but nothing i have laid a scent around the area where he went missing all the way back home.
I have had a coversation with a guy called Chris from Altitude58 film company who is hopefully if he gets permission flying his drone over that way tomorrow will keep every one updated.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one from the bottom of our hearts for helping us this is a special little boy who is going to be missing us thank you.
I don't know if he has picked up a scent from a female if so he could be anywhere Braunton,Braunton burrows, Saunton sands,Croyde it is a big area to cover he actually went missing on the 12 hole on the east course which is Braunton side of saunton golf club.
DogLostFergal - Area Volunteer - Cornwall
Dennis, I have sent you a text, hope you got it. Also some local people are asking where they could go to search? Where have you already looked and are there any areas you would want them to concentrate on. Also, has anyone asked if permission could be given for drone activity? Apparently it is restricted air space there.

Eyeball surfcheck have live cameras at Saunton and croyde will share there
