My goodness, this post is old but could be my Mums dog you're talking about. Lolly is 5, fawn and white, Staffy x Whippet, wearing a collar with tag and red/black harness and went missing from Abbots Wood today (18.5.17) around 11am. Your comments and where you have been looking are super helpful - Mum and a few friends were there all day today and a load of us are going back tomorrow. Any advice gratefully received! Have set up a Facebook page, put up a post thats been shared so many times its amazing, told warden, vets, stables, pub, posted on various local Facebook pages too. Thanks.

Just put an update on how Jasper is looking in case any of you lovely people were wondering :-)

DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Gutted that I can't make it today - will hopefully meet Jasper another day. Xx
ClaireC
So pleased to read your update that Jasper is home albeit with ticks! Please stay safe and close from now on. Xx
JulieH
Just got in from work and this has made my day!brilliant news!
egizzy
So pleased for you both
LynS
Oh I am relieved. Fly (whippet) screams if I pull a tick out of him, and Daisie (4kg terrier) hates the big ticks, they really hurt. They leave a huge wound, which take 3 - 4 weeks to heal. I hope Jasper is resting up now so he is ready to meet his fans tomorrow :)
Ella
LynS, vets went fine. Even the vet was grimacing as she twizzled out the ticks! Although a few had 'disappeared' overnight, so I think the beds etc are being washed pretty soon! Came out with some wormer and parasite stuff, and that was that. Gave him his (first ever) bath, and I think that's enough energy spent today. He was visibly shattered last night and pretty floppy today too. Not too tired to forget to sing to everyone in the vets though! Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible tomorrow at the woods from midday x
Tormor
What a lovely reunion...happy for you ella
Goldenfrodo
Brilliant news xx

Ella what a fabulous result. So pleased that everyone's hard work paid off. x
LynS
Please let us know how gets on at the vets. Selmeston/Berwick is riddled with ticks :( I'll be over to meet Jasper on Sunday, Fly, my whippet wants to meet the reason he's had so many extra walks! ;)

So pleased for you Ella as I have been following Jasper's story. What a lovely idea to have a Jasper appreciation meeting I am sure he will get lots of extra cuddles from those searching for him. You will all sleep well tonight....well done 🐶

Great news...now what we all want...a reunited photo please!
Pointerlady
So happy for you Ella. A traumatic and eventful 10 days but hopefully all will be a distant memory soon. Such a wonderful outcome and such commitment from you to have him back.. Julie xx

Wonderful news! Welcome home Jasper xx
Katie Neill
That's so wonderful! Xx
Ella
Well, after missioning it over to Hassocks to borrow a fox trap, to then learn we couldn't get landowners permission to set it that night, I got frustrated and decided Sonny (other whippet) and I were just going to sit in the field with some tripe down and watch until dark. Before I'd even got back to my sitting spot after putting tripe down, I turned around and he was there, just looking at me. Trotted over to me like nothing was wrong. On closer inspection he is covered in ticks, so vets tomorrow, but a nice long sleep for him this eve. Thank you all so so much. This Sunday we will be in Abbots Wood car park having a Jasper appreciation session from midday onwards, so people can come and meet who they've been searching for, and so I can thank everyone in person.

My boy is back! :-D

I am so happy for you all well done and welcome home Gorgeous Boy xxxx
LynS
This is the best news :D I am SOOOOOO HAPPY for you woooooo wooooooo
Gillian
Fantastic news that you've found Jasper. Been checking this page all day and not much happening. Don't check for a couple of hours and then find that he's in the blue! So pleased for you and Jasper x
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Oh I am so so pleased to see this lovely boy in the blue.... well done Ella and Zoe you have worked so very hard to find him, you must both be so relieved now that he is safe x

Famntastkic news. stay safe, and close now Jasper:-)ccc
Lyn
Fantastic News !You must be over the Moon . So pleased he is ok apart from being a bit skinny. Please let us Know how you managed to catch him x
Quincy
great news bit slow on reading all comments. Bet he will sleep well tonight as well as his family
Quincy
I did say we could go out and just check area but was advised to leave it for Jasper to get use to trap. As dont know where trap is would only observe from the farthest most place he was spotted. Will wait to be asked if our services are required. Best of luck and hope jasper is caught soon
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Very pleased to be able to move Jasper to reunited. Xx
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
We must have posted at the same time. Just the best news Ella .....will be able to sleep tonight now!! I'm so pleased he is ok - you and Dane have worked tirelessly to get him back.....really well done. And a huge thank you to all the fantastic people that have helped over the past few days.....great effort everyone. Xx
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Thanks Bobble:-) We are hoping a trap will be set up either today or tomorrow. Ella is trying to get permission off the landowner to get it sighted close to where Jasper was sighted. PLEASE CAN WE ASK THAT PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM THE TRAP UNLESS ELLA OR DANE HAS SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT YOU CHECK IT. It would be great if people could still keep a look out from a distance as we still need sightings. We know he is in the area, so need to keep him here. A huge thank you to everyone that has helped over the past few days. X
Ella
****JASPER HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!!!!!*

Will explain all when I get home.

Not a scratch on him but skinny!
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
NOTE THAT JASPER MAY OR MAY NOT BE WEARING HARNESS

- re update below. Any sighting please confirm.

Zoe, Ella and everyone yo are doing such a fantastic job, feeding station and trap in hand. Fantastic job everyone x
Ella
No I was busy freelanding my van over hill and dale. Kate took a couple of photos though, albeit from afar, it's almost definitely him. Great, Dane may have access to another if that one isn't possible x
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Did you see him yourself Ella? Let's hope he finds your van overnight. I have emailed the people re a trap - wouldn't expect a reply tonight but will follow up with a phone call in the morning and be in touch. X
Ella
Yes a sighting, typically as I was parking my van in another field. A train spooked him so went off in the same direction as this afternoon. Have left tripe in the area to keep him there and definitely trap up tomorrow. Shelley is there now with dashcam on to record if he surfaces again this evening. Can't thank everybody for all this help, I'm feeling close to the final now.

P.S it seems he has slipped his harness since this afternoon!
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
I'd just like to say a huge thank you to the ladies who turned up this evening to be an extra pairs of eyes for Ella and her other half. I'm sorry I couldn't stay to help you all and I really hope your evening was a success and you at least got another sighting of the elusive Jasper!! Great that he's been seen today but it's so important that we try to keep him in that area now as he's probably as safe as he's going to be there. If there is no luck tonight, I'm going to source a trap as he's obviously staying in that area. Am sure one of the other ladies (or Ella) will update if there's anything to report from tonight.
LynS
Glad you found Mays Farm ok. I will stick to driving round, I wont risk spooking him. ANYTHING you need help with in Berwick/Selmeston this week, give me a shout as I am out that way everyday. *So* many people are rooting for you guys Last edited: 2015-09-03 22:28:09 by LynS
AceB
If you need a hand this evening Ella, give a time and location or shall I call one of the numbers above?
Paul.
Ella
And yes AceB it was L and L Lloyd
Ella
Just seen again in field next door. Was either heading to a woody patch anyway or my boyfriend coming over from another field made him move. I think this eve we need multiple stationary eyes at various corners of his new found area. Apparently he didn't notice the ladies that phoned me and they were in the same field as him. We've had permission from Mays Farm to leave van, if that doesn't work we'll go for fox trap. Apparently he's looking quite well!
AceB
Ella, that sounds like L+L Lloydd, I'm surprised they don't have a bit more compassion seeing as they're doggie people themselves but I can ask someone who knows them to reconsider if you think it's the best place to put a trap?

I was going to take my Hounds out tomorrow for a few hours and walk some of the footpaths between Berwick, Alciston and Alfriston in case we spot him. Are you still keen for people to do this or would you prefer to lay the trap and try to keep him close to the last sighting? I did wonder if it would be worth sitting up at Beau Peep with some decent binoculars as you should be able to get a good view of the area from the right spot.

BTW, If you head SW from Berwick village towards New Barn the track that runs NW-SE is the Old Coach Road AKA Comp Lane and is a restricted byway, you ARE allowed to drive along the entire length from Firle Bostal to the top of Winton St, Alfriston.Last edited: 2015-09-03 14:40:07 by AceB
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Couldn't agree more Pointerlady - well said. Unfortunately, a lot of people won't know not to try to catch him unless they are a member on here but have tried to put on any facebook posts I've seen.
Pointerlady
Just to reiterate what Ella has said. All help is greatly appreciated BUT we must only be an extra pair of eyes and ears. Any sightings should be called in to Ella. Jasper has been away from home for over a week and will be somewhat traumatised and anyone trying to be heroic and then tries to catch him, could put him at risk.
Ella
I don't know who's farmland he's on. We spoke to Lord and Lady someone in Ludlay (??) who said not to leave the van etc, but we're on the case finding out who's fields are also there. Depending on what field we're allowed to we'll leave it as close to where he was seen as possible, which was just behind the cricket field. The lady said she had thrown a dead rabbit in a sheep pen so her dogs didn't get it and by the morning it was gone, so hopefully that was him and he's using that area constantly. Please if anyone does go searching, no calling his name, it's just driving him away. We're going to keep as stealthy as possible and just let him come to this trap if we can. Thanks again all x
JulieH
Good luck for today!
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Would anyone be able to bump Jasper back up onto the first page in view of the sighting? x
Quincy
Fantastic news that he has started to surface. Where are you going to put the feeding station. Dont want to scare him off but would be able to park up somewhere for a while in the hope of getting a sighting. Might get an idea of his route. Cant stress how happy we are xxxxxxxxx
LynS
Ella, is he on Mays Farm Land? They border the village hall, but their access is off Lower Wick Street (keep turning left).
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
I can't believe that landowner could be so mean:-( I was offered a dog trap when Cuckoo went missing - am sure you'd be able to borrow it if needed so just let me know - I'll message you my mobile number through Facebook but it will probably go to your others folder. I think she said the trap would have to go in private land though so hopefully you can sweet talk the other landowner. Good luck for today. X
Pointerlady
Ella, I cannot tell you how pleased I am for you this evening. Such a much safer area than Drusilla's. Hope the lure if some tasty food will tempt him. Good luck, I shall keep my eyes peeled too.x
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Tomorrows plan sounds a very good one, think a feeding station is def the way to go, maybe even return to the village hall early in am at first light ? With smelly food ... x
Ella
The landowners wouldn't let me leave the van there :-( and the "private village hall car park" was too close to the road for my liking, plus probably shouldn't be there either. Tomorrow's mission: contact farmer who has fields near mean landowner, ascertain if we can leave his crate somewhere nearby, and set up a regular feeding station, monitored by a motion sensitive camera trap. May even borrow a fox trap and not set it until he's been in it a few times and got food. The things I am doing for this dog!!
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
So glad that there has been a sighting this eve, have everything crossed he finds your van, you probably are already doing so but a disposable bbq near to your van and some really smelly food, bacon etc may lure him x
LynS
TOTALLY FAB NEWS! Come on Jasper, use your nose! Ella I am out in Selmeston most of tomorrow will keep an eye out
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Just to say, he is not a million miles from Abbots Wood again now so he could try to get back there. X
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Oh, that's brilliant news Ella. Totally the opposite direction to where we've been looking then!! At least it's given us somewhere to focus on - thanks for keeping us updated. There will be so many people got everything crossed that he finds your van tonight. Good luck. X
Ella
SEEN IN FIELDS BEHIND BERWICK VILLAGE HALL 6pm this eve, running up and down tree line, harness still on!!! Leaving van here overnight. Flipping hec.
LynS
It gives us reason to go on looking ... I drove from Selmeston to Seaford this afternoon, took the long way via Littlington. Came back to Eastbourne via Jevington. Was looking more for disturbed livestock, but nothing :( I only spoke to a very few people, but everyone was already aware Jasper is missing.
Ella
Well, the stretch of A27 between drusillas and Barley Mow has had it's hedges searched on either side, except the bits that no human could get to. Nothing found. Although the brambles were so thick there could well have been Mr Bobby in there but no one would know. Can't decide if this is a good thing or not... :-/
Ella
I do the odd shift for the Giants Rest, he's been in there multiple times and I pick dogs up in Wilmington on basically a daily basis so he knows that area well x
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
That's brilliant re farmers - well done. I'm just gutted theres been no sighting since Saturday:-( Its so difficult to know which area to focus on. There is still a chance he could make his way back to Abbots Wood I guess, even if its from the Giants Rest area. I'm off on Friday so will head back up that way again if he's not been found. x
Ella
Zoe, my boyfriend's brother works on Ellis' farmland, which is Wilmington / Litlington / Folkington etc, so they're aware. Boyfriend has also asked permission of farmer who owns the fields out Drusillas way to have access to do the dreaded bush search along both sides of the A27 today. If nothing is found along there, then I feel we literally have done all we can. I know it will be some sort of comfort to know all the humanly possible things are being done. I shared to Sussex Longdog Association yesterday also. Many thanks to all again x

Have added to Just Whippet and Southern Lurcher Rescue sites Hope this is ok.
LynS
There is a racing yard in Jevington, near the pub, they take at least a couple of strings up to the gallops in Friston every morning, fairly early too. Maybe someone should tell them?
madfox
Keeping everything crossed you find Jasper. I work for the local council and can confirm that any pets found by our contractor after an rta are taken to a vet for scanning and even if they're not chipped they're kept for a while to give owners a chance to find them. I will alert everyone about Jasper and keep an eye out myself. It's really lovely to see so many people stepping forward to help.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Amazing efforts by everyone - thank you. There are so many people that are aware now and so many people that are searching. We must be due another sighting again. Does anyone know the local farmers for the area? Obviously, there is livestock grazing and it would be good if local farmers could be notified that Jasper is missing and has been for a few days now and that people are actively out looking for him. He could quite easily get to Butts Brow, Friston and Butchershole if he gets to Litlington from where he was sighted. Ella, you are working so hard to get him home where he belongs and you deserve to have him back - there are so many people routing for you guys. X
egizzy
I have shared and updated on Eastbourne Streetlife and someone keeps suggesting informing Face Book Greyhound groups
AceB
Chuck wagons weren't there early this morning but I've just spoken to a colleague who came back that way at lunch and there is one either side of the A27. Do they have posters, maybe someone could ask if they'd be willing to put one up? Another place to put one where currently there isn't is a short layby south of Drusillas and south of Berwick Ct farm ind. est just at the entrance to a private drive. Often see cars and cyclists pulled over in it having lunch or just taking in the view.
Ella
Julie, our very regular walks are Friston Forest (Litlington road car park), butchershole and butts brow. It is surely an absolute long shot that he is making his way home, but people do keep suggesting it and stranger things have happened I'm sure. Yes, he was on the opposite verge to abbots wood side, so many fields upon fields that lead to many different directions that side, surely the majority being fenced so he'd struggle to make a route... Thank you for your efforts today Qunincy x
Quincy
Sorry no sightings been to Butts Brow put up posters. East Dean Poster in car park and the Hikers rest. Put poster up in Jevington car park.
Seen and talked to loads of people especially ramblers. Man had seen it on facebook and has been walking all round friston area and will be targeting the forest. Poster at Folkington. Also put poster up Priory Heights Eastbourne
Pointerlady
Ella, is Friston, Butchers Hole Jevington your more usual walk with Jasper? Was he the South side of the A27 when seen on Saturday and do you think he could be on his way to Eastbourne?
Quincy
messaged Ella on our dogs lost Eastbourne yesterday. If it is true that Jasper had crossed the A27 it could be he is able to get to Friston Forest and he is heading towards home. Ana and I are going to target that area from Cuckmere Valley East Dean the Eastbourne Golf Club and on towards Eastbourne old town. Its also possible he could go towards Jevington will try there too. I will print off poster and put them along that route

Pointerlady
Just back from driving around from dusk along the A27 up through Berwick, Arlington, covering both sides of the reservoir and of course the car park at Abbots Wood until it finally closed at 8.45pm. No sightings but I am sure I saw the same vehicles pass by several times, so hopefully there are plenty of like minded people concerned for Jasper. Keep positive Ella, there are plenty of safe hunting grounds for a hungry whippet and without a known walking route home he hopefully will keep away from the roads.
LynS
Ella, if you'd like me to poster Pevensey let me know. My field is on Pevensey Marsh I will make a point of walking down there on the days I don't get to Selmeston/Berwick areas. He could easily get across fields onto the marsh.
Yes, there is still a food wagon by Sherman Bridge, one on each side of the road, in the lay-bys either side of the bridge. Last edited: 2015-08-31 22:11:31 by LynS
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
A really big thank you to everyone who has been out searching for Jasper - brilliant team effort:-) Gutted that there's not been a sighting for a couple of days:-( Maybe with the weather and it being a busy bank holiday weekend, he's been keeping a low profile. Ella, it probably doesn't make you feel any better, but there was a little border terrier, Cuckoo, go missing a couple of weeks ago - she was missing for 12 days, sightings most days in the same area for about a week, and then a random call from someone with a sighting about 6 miles away a few days later, which is where she was finally caught in a trap. I think this is why it's important to poster a larger area so that you are one step in front of jasper. X
AceB
Is the chuck wagon still open each day in the layby just west of Shermans Bridge? I'll be going passed at about 5.45 tomorrow morning so if it is I'll stop and let them know. If he's hungry he may get whiff of the fried food and hang about in the field behind but it is on the other side of the river so he'll have to get across that first.
Marigoldww
So sorry you've had no sightings. I've been from hailsham down to drusillas roundabout then round the lanes to abbots wood and then walked my dog along all kinds of tiny paths looking for him. I think I saw pointer lady out too. Will continue to search. The car boot was on at cop hall on Sunday so he's prob given that a wide berth, very busy. Will continue to search x
Ella
The most recent sighting in the woods was described as a 'large' whippet type, which wouldn't be him unless the person thinks whippets are Italian greyhound size etc which many do. Also no harness confirmation. So kind of going from the A27 sighting Saturday. No other sightings. Getting to the point where we'll have to brace ourselves and search the bushes along the A27 :'-( my van has been there more often than not with the side door open, added a new smelly t-shirt to his bed too. Can't thank everyone enough for their efforts xx
Pointerlady
Me too Lyn, so much so we carved a few new tracks through the brambles but no luck. Saw Ella's van in the car park today but once the rain stopped the hoards arrived and I think they may put Jasper off the car park area.
Lyn
Walked Abbotts Wood Yesterday some off the Beaten track No sightings .
LynS
I am intending on parking somewhere under or around Cophall roundabout this evening and will take a mooch up into the woods behind Little Cophall riding school and towards Robin Post Lane. I know its a long shot as he hasn't been seen this way, but hey, he could be anywhere by now :(
shelleyD
Once I get some bits finished I will head back over for about 6 this evening as the forecast says it is going to stop raining so hopefully he might come out in the open x
Quincy
Ana and I went out on Saturday and covered Abbotts Wood and spoke to many dog walkers and horse riders but with no luck
Went out again on Sunday at 6.00 a.m. Went to Berwick station and the fields behind up to corn field. Spoke to lady who lived there she will keep a look out. Then went to turf farm no luck. Went as far as long man at Willmington. On to Middle Farm no luck but informed anyone who would listen. Dropped in at Drusillas and the English Wine centre they hadnt seen anything. Went through Alfriston village and then traveled back over A27 to cross the road back to Abbotts Wood and Arlington reservoir. Lets hope as the weather is changing he will show himself a little more. Best of luck everybody lets hope Jasper comes home soon xx
LynS
I will continue to walk mine (on leads) where ever Jasper has been seen.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Lyn & Shelley - thank you both so much for all your efforts. As Ella says, jasper will probably choose to lie low in this horrible weather which doesn't help for sightings:-( We are so lucky to have such a fantastic group of volunteers in this area - thank you all so much. X
LynS
Also there is a bridleway which runs across the fields from the Berwick Inn westbound to Selmeston church. It crosses Stonery Farm land, the egg farm. Has anyone told them?
LynS
For info ... have walked and scanned the area around Milton Street and the Sussex Ox, Alfriston (the bridge overlooking the river), and Berwick, behind the church, which over looks the fields. All on the south side of the A27. No luck.
Also ..
Its stock car racing day at Arlington Stadium, the roads are pretty busy and noisey. I guess he'll lay low.
Has anyone informed Little Cophall riding school, they back on to Abbots Wood and hack out regularly.
shelleyD
Been thinking about him all night, sure he'll have hunkered down somewhere in this weather. Have you eliminated the sighting at abbots wood lake yesterday then Ella?x
Ella
Incredible Shelley, still can't believe the support this little guy has. Have no idea where to begin anymore as he's crossed the A27. In this weather he'd be lying low anyway. Dread to think what condition he'd be in after this length of time. Thank you for the twitter post Riverlady x
DogLostRiverlady
Circulating on twitter..JASPER Fawn/White Whippet SIGHTING http://bit.ly/1Q2LlNh #AbbotsWood #Arlington #BN26 Plz RT
shelleyD
Spent 5 hours, driving, postering, walking lots of footpaths and talked to lots of walkers, cyclists a few farmers etc from 7 this morning but sadly no joy. lots of people had already heard of Jasper's plight so sure it only a matter of time before he is spotted again. Ella is doing a great job! I will rejoin the search as soon as I can x
Ella
Yes posters gone through doors on Alfriston stretch past drusillas and houses in other side of Berwick near the verge he must have been on.

Pretty sure the first abbots wood lake sighting was one of Sue's whippets, not him. But today a chap phoned me to say a sandy coloured lurcher thing was seen in the woodland, not far from the lake by oak bridleway. He had already seen sue so was pretty sure it wasn't hers. ..so hard to guess which sightings are most likely him.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Lots of brilliant advice here, I'm miles away but know the area really well, so watching and praying from afar. Great idea about Drusillas. I'd go a step further though and ask if you could leaflet all the car windscreens, make the poster smaller so that 4 are on A4 and cut them to leaflet size. I'd also poster the A27 from Polegate to the Newhaven roundabout, seriously, try and get some boards made quickly, you need another firm sighting and to make motorists aware.

I am bumping the page for you regarding the latest possible sighting and requesting twitter. You are all doing so brilliantly. He may have left his previous comfort zone after a deer.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Thanks for the update Ella. As you say, it's not ideal that he's crossed the A27 but I guess at least he's moved away from the railway! I'm really sorry that I can't help today. I'd suggest postering Alfriston, Litlington, Friston Forest. I have just spoken to a lovely lady called Anna who has been out searching Abbots Wood since 6am this morning. She has been into Middle Farm to let them know. Ella - can you display a couple of posters at Drusillas? It's just they have so many visitors there at this time of year, most of which would have passed where Jasper was possibly last seen. Good luck for today - hoping that today is the day he makes an appearance. X
Ella
Yes every horse rider we've come across has been told, lots of people focused on the fields behind the pub and along the arlington road yesterday too. No one can tell me if any of these sightings was of a whippet with a harness on frustratingly. Pointerlady yes its been on my mind that the lake sighting was one of Sue's instead.

New sighing, not one I wanted to hear: dog like J seen on a verge on the A27, drusillas side, looking spooked at 11 am yesterday. So we're focusing on posters etc on that side and those villages now. I was getting hopeful he was staying in certain areas before that :-( I left the van open with food around in abbots car park last night, and fried some bacon etc as dusk, but nothing but deer.
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Pointerlady - that is the route I've driven the last couple of days. I think that Ella has been doing that too but not sure. I'm not going to be able to go out now for a few days unfortunately but hopefully the sightings will carry on coming. Thank you for all your help - much appreciated, and any info on the local area is really welcome too. XLast edited: 2015-08-29 22:10:39 by Zoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Pointerlady
Just a guess but Common Lane is a very easy route from Abbots Wood (Robin Post Lane) to the South side of Berwick where the Berwick Inn is. Perhaps it would be worth a drive from the Inn's car park back towards Abbot's Wood as it passes close to the fields at the bottom of the pub's car park where he has been sighted. It's a cycle route too and passes under the railway line.
shelleyD
Was so hoping to see jasper in the blue :-(

Really sorry Ella but not going to make it that way tonight. It's a 40 min drive from Hastings and I'm just too tired, so wouldn't be safe.I will get an early night and come early in the morning about 6.30. If you manage to catch him tonight please update so I don't have a wasted journey. Not that I would really care, Jasper being home would far outweigh it. Fingers crossed for you xx
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
I have just got back from a walk at Abbots Wood. I centred on the lake but used some of the lesser used paths. I also then drove to Berwick again, into the Resevoir car park and then back past Michelham Priory. Unfortunately nothing:-( Pointerlady, thanks for the info re the two regular whippets. I guess the confirmation is whether the dog had a black and red harness on? Having driven between Abbots Wood and Berwick both yesterday and today, it's quite a trek on a daily basis for him to be travelling? I know dogs can cover quite a distance but he must be getting tired and hungry now? Ella - do we know if the dog that was seen this morning had a harness on?
Pointerlady
When mentioning a whippet flying past in Abbots Wood this morning, please remember the regulars. Two whippets go there every morning from very early to around 11am. Both range far and wide but always come back to their owner.

Shelleyb - thank you for all your efforts searching - any help is very gratefully received. Bobble - thank you as well - I have suggested the livery yards /stables for posters but not sure if Ella has had a chance to sort out yet. The latest "possible" sighting was by a horse rider - they also cover a lot more ground as well.

I've messaged some people I know in the area (they back onto Abbots Wood and walk the dogs there). If not done already would be worth contacting all the stables thereabouts, Primrose Farm and Michelham Farm come to mind, they can see more on a horse and might even spot a den or something. As said already early mornings and evenings best time to quietly seek him out. Good luck.

Hope Jasper is home safe soon x

He's definitely giving us all the run around if that was him at Abbotts Wood this morning!! Thanks for keeping us updated Ella. If I get a chance this afternoon, il walk Roxie up there. X

Ella
Thanks all. No joy from last night's reservoir visit. But apparently a horse rider had a whippet sprint past her by the lake in abbots wood this morning. ........
shelleyD
Sorry had no Internet to update last night. I. Did pretty much the same as Zoe but earlier in the day, and put up some extra posters on some of the public footpaths, but didn't see him. I was in the area for couple of hours but didn't see him, but it was I hive of activity so not surprising really.

Maybe try cooking some bacon on one of those disposable bbq's in the pub car park late tonight to try to lure him out. I have a lot on today but I will try to drive back over later this evening xLast edited: 2015-08-29 08:58:02 by shelleyD

I went out after work last night - had a walk round Arlington Resevoir and then drove to the pub where he was sighted last night and the lane that he could have taken to get there in the first place. I also drove up into the car park where jasper originally went missing to see if he'd returned there. Unfortunately no sightings at all:-( Bumped into Ella who was sitting quietly up at the Resevoir with some smelly food, hoping that he'd make an appearance up there. Hopefully he showed his face at the pub again at closing time. I'm walking early with a friend in Crowborough but will try to go back to the area again afterwards. Lots of posters up in the places he's been seen but could maybe do with a few more in between? I assume there's one up at the station at Berwick? I have to say, my main concern is that jasper seems to be crossing the railway on a regular basis as the two main sightings have been both sides of the railway crossing:-( I do think the railways need to be notified if they haven't already.

Thanks Zoe, shelleyD and Pointerlady for your help.
So pleased to see that you have had another sighting of Jasper. Hopefully your posters will bring some more news of him. Good to see that you had the van open with bedding and food even if he did not return last night. Would be well worth doing the same again as he may come back to that spot again. If he went to the bushes it would also be worth leaving a scent trail from there to the car park and your van. That way he can follow it to you. (All explained in the Doglost email I sent you) There's also advice in the email on how to catch him when you do see him even if he is scared .. the main thing is to be very patient, keep him in the area if poss and work from there.
As the pub is being so helpful might be worth having a bbq in their car park to try and draw Jasper to you as he will prob be hungry now. He may still be in the area even if you don't see him.
Bear in mind that it may be last light or early hours that he shows himself as it is much quieter then and less people to scare him too.
Best of luck . you are doing a good job :)

PS I have shared to Sussex Dog Community. Also to Rainbow Bridge Equine Rescue who are nearby. The lady who runs RBER says she will get up half hour early tomorrow and have a drive around about 5.30 am when no one is about to see if she can spot Jasper. Thanks J. She has also shared across all their pages.Last edited: 2015-08-28 23:33:08 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

So glad he's been spotted! Heading to the area shortly to put up some posters. I have my elderly mother with me so a bit limited on what I can do, but hopefully a few extra poster will help.

Fingers crossed he comes out of hiding soon x

Oh, that's brilliant - I wonder if he's milling round the pub looking for food? If I get a chance, i'll drive over after work later and have a mooch around. You have definitely done the right thing by leaving your van up there with his bed etc. Fingers crossed he makes an appearance today.
Pointerlady
That is the best news to wake up to this morning. So glad that the rta incident was not him and that he has now been sighted. Good luck with your plan to lure him into your van. If you do want to arrange any kind of search for him let me know and I like Zoe are happy to help. Julie
Ella
SEEN in Berwick Inn car park 11:30pm last night. Fled into the field/hedges at the bottom. Had my van that he knows left open with his bed and food in overnight but no joy. So looks like the focus is now back in Berwick area. Posters are up around there but more are printed off ready to stick up.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and Ella for your updates.
Thanks Zoe for helping Ella.
Ella: Good to hear that you have left scent article at the car park as Jasper will have something familiar to come back to and stay with.
In the Doglost advice I sent you it explains that dogs often go into defensive mode quite quickly after being lost so Jasper may not be as easy to catch as you think especially if he is scared. Although there are always the dogs that prove us wrong!
I would advise that you get as many posters up as possible .. there can never be too many of them and it's always that one poster that will bring you news of where he is.
Please make sure that you contact the local Highways Dept to let them know that Jasper is missing in the area. I hope, like Zoe, that it was a fox that was hit but they would be able to tell you if they had picked a dog up. I'm not sure what the Highways Dept policy is in your area re scanning for microchips .. some do and some don't as sadly it is not compulsory for them to do so.

As I say posters are what will bring you more sightings which is what you need to find out where your lad is. I hope you have more news of him soon.

DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Oh no:-( I guess we have to hope that it was a fox:-( I'm really surprised there have been no sightings. Ella - have you managed to get many posters up? It might be worth dropping one into the pub and tea shop on that road. There is also a few livery yards on both those lanes - it would be a good idea to drop posters to them as well as they will be riding the area and covering more ground than we could walking. I am very happy to help you Saturday morning - I'm meeting a friend at 8am for a walk but could come afterwards. X
Pointerlady
That's Wilmington Woods. Have you contacted the Ranger for the woods (Forestry Commission)? I am trying to find his mobile number for you at the moment as the Forestry Commission offices are now closed. Is a search party gathering in that area to look?
Ella
"Something" was hit by a car last night on the left turning off the arlington speedway road that takes you to the Old Oak and woods. Person said she assumed it was a fox but could have been a dog...
Pointerlady
I shall be walking in Abbots Wood later today with my 4 and will ask everyone I come across if they have seen him. Zoe is right, there are footpaths and a bridle path that link the woods to where he has been sighted. I am sure he will be seen soon, Julie
Ella
Thank you Zoe x
He is a nosey bolshy whatsit normally that jumps on anyone, but I have heard people tried to lure him to be caught yesterday but he wouldn't let them. However that was only an hour after he disappeared so perhaps he would be more inclined to seek help 28 hours on...
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Ella - you are probably aware if you know the area well, but there is a bridleway that cuts through from Arlington pretty much to Abbots Wood, I remember cycling it a few years ago. It really is no distance at all and would seem that Jasper is heading back in the right direction. I would imagine, that in this weather, he is taking shelter for the moment but think the weather is due to clear up later so he may surface again. Would he go up to someone if they tried to catch him or is he a nervous dog? Fingers crossed for his safe return. I am a little way from Abbots Wood but would be happy to help on Saturday morning if he's not been found (which hopefully he has!). x
shelleyD
No problem Ella, just wish I wasn't in Essex at the moment. I always seem to be in the wrong place lately! It might be an idea to see if the couple that saw him in their garden would let you put a scent item there x
Ella
Thank you Shelley, yes I've left a blanket of ours in the car park. Thank you for your concern and help x
shelleyD
So sorry Jasper is still missing. Have you left any scent items in the places he has been spotted. If he goes back he may be inclined to stick around if he can smell something of yours. I am back in Hastings Friday so will come help poster & look for him if he isn't already home. Praying he is home safe before then xx
Ella
New sighting at 2:30 ish running from Berwick station towards Arlington. Still had his harness on apparently
Ella
Thanks all. A lady phoned me to say she saw him go in someone's garden in Berwick at 9:30 am (an hour after disappearance). I found this house and the owners confirmed they saw him on their security camera but don't know which way he went. We live in Eastbourne town centre so a long way for him to find his way back! Various drivers and walkers searching currently.

Thank you Marigoldww. Please check on here to see if Jasper has been found. I do hope so as there is a lot more wet weather on the way.
I'm sure Ella will let us know how she is getting on later.
Marigoldww
I'm going to drusillas tomorrow I will take a poster with me x
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks Zoe, TK, AceB and Pointerlady.
I don't know the area and I'm not sure who reported seeing him either I'm afraid.
I spoke to Ella some time ago and she was busy printing photos and about to go out to look.
Neither do I know where Jasper lives
(perhaps you would let us know which road your home is Ella?) but wonder if he is trying to get home if this is nearby? Otherwise he is running scared .. I hope not.
Would definitely be worth letting Drusilla's know as they would probably get a poster up there.

Jasper is also on Brighton Dogwatch page now so hopefully more sightings will come in.
Stay safe Jasper.

Hi Ella, just spoke to Sue (Oliver and Rocky the whippets owner) and she has filled me in with the details. When you mention a possible sighting in Berwick do you mean near the station reservoir area or the other side of the A27 near Drusilla's? Where might Jasper be heading if he is going WSW? Happy to help search if we can get a firm sighting.
TK - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Hope there is some good news soon x
DogLostZoe - Area Volunteer - East Sussex
Poor boy - will email his poster to my local contacts. x
AceB
Hopefully I won't need too but if he's still missing in the morning I'll print off his poster and give it to the posties covering Wilmington, Berwick and Alfriston.
Ella
Potential sighting in Berwick
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Sorry to see that JAsper has gone missing.
I have spoken and given besic advice on the telephone about dogs usually going back to the place where they were lost from or the car park they started the walk from.
Also explained about scent trails as I think this would help and suggested leaving a box (in a bin bag if this rain carries on!) so Jasper has a familiar smell to return to and stay with.
I will email our Doglost advice and share on Doglost South East, Doglost East Sussex and my pages.
Best of luck and I hope you find Jasper soon.
