- Other Info Herby the tortoise is thought to be an Algerian spur thigh variety, stolen from a property in the Barnes area of Sunderland on Monday 17th August in a burglary. Family has had him for 40 years, and he is thought to be around 44 years old. He is a fussy eater, weighs around 7kg/1 stone, and is 12"/30.5 cm long approximately. He has no papers as he was bought in 1975 before the ban. Anyone with any information leading to his safe return will be rewarded.

- Good news! Herby has been found in the Sunderland area last night, alive and well. Fyi, he had been bought from a 'lad in the street' for £70 for a family. Thank you Doglost and everyone who has shared the photos and information.

It would be really helpful to have a photo, especially of the torts underside, as this is like a fingerprint that changes little through its life. Useful if not chipped, though I understand this can be done now, best by specialist vet.
Have the owners let all the local vets know about the theft? Publicity of any form will be the key here... Make him too hot to handle!
