"Morning TEAM RAFIKI. News just in from GODSTONE. Two boys (around 13 and 15) were seen in a field behind St Nicholas Church last Friday at around 6pm, they had a small dark terrier dog and a spaniel that looks a lot like Rafiki. The boys were friendly and said that their spaniel had been 'thrown out and nobody had waned him.' Could it be RAFIKI?? Somebody must know them.
Today is exactly 1 year since Rafiki arrived in the UK. PLEASE PLEASE keep a look out if you are in Godstone"
It would be wonderful if this was Rafiki.
I would suggest that you go to the field, possibly around the same time, to see if these friendly lads are there again. Or maybe someone walking their dogs there will know who they are and where they come from. (I've bumped the page for this possible sighting)
Best of luck ...

Re the links below. I'm following this group, these dogs are not stolen and have been checked by RSPCA. They are regularly involved due to the conditions the animals are kept in. The group are trying to help get these animals to safety and the authorities are also involved due to the man on Esholt Gypsy site regularly breeding animals illegally.

New press article on Rafiki http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/esher-familys-renewed-video-appeal-10714780
When Jenny and Tiga tracked him his trail just stopped less than half a mile from home (he had done a circuit of about 6 miles), someone must have picked him up, they need to do the right thing. If you bought Raf in good faith please give him back, there is a big reward sp you can buy your own gorgeous springer.

Has this one been checked against RAFIKI ...http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=97161#.VpP0RvmLTrf

Hi Admin, Raf's video and another article will be featured by the Mirror again this week. Can you please bump his page and give our efforts a boost for the new year? In the last month I have followed up on more than a dozen 'leads' of spaniels found in various parts of the country but nothing has come of it and sadly, there have been no more sightings. Team Rafiki continues to astound me with their selflessness and support for our little lost Soul. xxx Tremaine https://www.facebook.com/missingspringerspaniel/videos/1541172882864502/?theater
Wonderous
They sleep at night because they don't care. They don't think of the people who have lost their dog. All the pain they are feeling or how the dog is feeling through missing the life and family he knew and loved. Yes someone knows something :-(
NTimoney
I agree Skywalker99.. Someone knows what has happened to him. They just need to do the right thing now and hand him in so he can go home to his family. I don't know how these people sleep at night.
NTimoney
Jayne - Do we have any updates regarding the police looking into the thieves who stole Maximus and whether there are any links to Raf going missing?
Skywalker99
Someone intervene to stop Rafiki going home last August, I hope that someone will do the right thing in 2016. Raf needs to be home.
Meg
Desperate for any more news re Raf. Are there any leads being followed up or enquiries being made? Had so hoped that he would have been home for Christmas! We can still make the start of this New Year a good one!
Skywalker99
Merry Christmas Rafiki hope you are well, and warm and dry. Jayne, what do you mean that Rafik is a genuine missing dog? ( by inference not stolen one.)Last edited: 2015-12-24 22:50:35 by Skywalker99

CJ our police co-ordinator is aware of Maximus...BUT Rafiki is a genuine missing dog...for 6 months...lots of sightings...this little guy is a survivor..and I am sure still is....CJ is looking into the matter.Last edited: 2015-12-22 21:52:40 by AlisonH

Its all too quiet, I hope someone, somewhere will come forward with some fresh news and good news PLEASE. He cant have just disappeared!!!!!!!

Maybe Doglost can get Surrey police to investigate further
NTimoney
Maximus who was stolen in Claygate a few days has been brought in and reunited today. Does anyone know how we can get the police to investigate the burglars that took Maximus to see if there is a link with Rafiki's disappearance?? These gangs must work together or in teams surely???
Kim
I have sent an email to Ian Gayton at Elmbridge with a poster of Rafiki. I understand that he went to the camp and if Rafiki was there he may remember him.
Kim
I have just been checking all the posts etc regarding the Travellers at Hare lane green in esher which is opposite The Swan Pub and there was a post on facebook on the 7th September under Claygate Shopping which said that the number plates of the vehicles were german. This was posted by Alouisa Nawalkar.
Kim
Esher's Travellers community is covered by Ian Gayton of Elmbridge Borough Council. John Hockley who covers Kingston Travelling community said not to focus soley on the Traveller community as there are other criminal elements from other communities that are also active in this field.
NTimoney
Hi - I posted the info on FB regarding the travellers moving into the Esher area this year. We can obviously exclude the visit to Cobbs Lane in 2014 however travellers seem to visit the area every year and they were indeed in the vicinity again this year around early September. If you google travellers Esher 2015, you will see that Surrey Comet wrote a story on 9th September about them moving into Hare Lane, Esher. Tremaine is aware of this info and I believe there are now a few of us checking Irish, Scottish and Welsh sites for any further leads. It's just a hunch I had therefore my FB post however I have heard lots of stories about them stealing dogs. Really hope we can get some positive information for Tremaine and her family.
DogLostNina
Googled and got The National Federation of Gypsy Liaison Groups or NFGLG they are on natglg@outlook.com Any one got the neck to ask it they would circulate Rafiki story.
Skywalker99
Confirmed by someone on Raf's facebook page that they were here august and september 2015 too.....dislike this info, poor Raf.
Doglover
Nina , in the story I read, there was a photo of the Travellers and a white Van next to caravan. I tried to enlarge photo to see if I could read the number plate , but unable, but if this is a police investigation, then they would be able to read number plate with their enhanced technology and find out who it is registered to and put a trace o. It.
DogLostNina
Skywalker99 and Doglover have taken your lead and put into google Travellers in Esher and Travellers moved on in Surrey in both cases there a stories this year dated Aug. and September 2015 maybe this might help in the search
Skywalker99
agree Doglover..don't know if there was another one this year.....
Doglover
Skywalker99 I typed Cobbs Green into Google and it came up with a story from the paper getsurrey.co.uk but it was talking about Travellers, same time period, but 2014. Do you think the Facebook entry is wrong or did they return?
Doglover
Skywalker99 is there any way of founding out from the council what Travellers they were... Long shot, but you never know. Trouble is, once they were moved on, no one knows where they were heading. Sounds like they have Rafiki doesn't,t it.
Skywalker99
Someone has posted on Raf's facebook page that there was an illegal travellers site just a few hundred yards from where he was last seen.....they arrived on Cobbs Green on 3/4th August and I think were evicted around 15th-20th August. Raf went missing on 6th August.
Doglover
Hello Skywalker , my Neice who lives near me also told me not to go to the Travvelers site, but if I see any I. town, I will give them a poster and just ask them to share. I have been able to view Rafiki,s page by typing it into Google, but unable to add anything. Thank you also Charlie and sooty, our paths cross on again. Let us all pray for Raviki,s safe return. Dogs have been found many months after they have gone missing as we all see from this wonderful site. Xx
charlie and sooty
I have shared video to various sites and public xx
charlie and sooty
Hi Doglover. I have send a video of Rafiki (waiting approval) to the main Doglost page, for those that do not do face book...Please DO NOT go to travellers site/s on your own or take any risks. Thank you. xxx
Skywalker99
Thank you Doglover, and please don't take any personal risks by going to travellers sites... Perhaps just email your local liaison officer? Even though you are not on Facebook you can see Rafiki's page because it is 'public' , just post the link into your browser address line.
Doglover
Hello again Skywalker and Tremaine and family. I have contacted my daughter in Hampshire and she has now shared Rafiki,s page on her Facebook, which will also be looked at as far away as Devon. I have spoken to my Neice who lives near me in Braintree Essex, she has shared it on her Facebook page so this will go all over Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester and further all in Essex. The Hampshire post might be more positive as nearer to Kingston upon Thames and Surrey, but you never know. Xxxx
Doglover
Thank you Skywalker for the update. Unfortunately, I do not do Facebook or Twitter but I know people who do, so I will ask them how I can get the Doglost poster on their Facebook and spread it around. I also think there is a Travellers site nearby and I was even thinking of trying to find it and go down there. I would be very brave though as I am 68 years young, but it may be worth a try. I know I keep going on about Travellers, but there have been so many dogs stolen around here lately and descriptions of vans and times stolen, and areas, always near fields or down lanes, late at night or early in the morning, it leads me to believe it could be them. Leave it with me and I will see what I can do.
Skywalker99
It does look like he was picked up...and he had almost made it back home! The alternative with no sightings is the unthinkable. Doglover - I believe Raf's owners and local people searched surrounding woodlands extensively when he first went missing and camped out there. Just a thought, has anyone checked the allotments of Hampton Court Road in case one of the holders has seen him..or he is being kept in a shed there. lovely video, have shared, Doglover, perhaps you can spread the word in Essex?
Kim
I know a few people who are close to local travellers and I have asked them if it is ok if I go to the local sites with a poster just to enquire as to whether they have seen him, hopefully if I am allowed I will keep all posted.
Doglover
hello Kim, I do hope you Are right. I live in Essex and unfortunately a lot of dogs being stolen by TravellersT the moment, especially Lurchers and Spaniels, hence my comment. I also hope all Reservoirs and quarries were searched in the early days as well. I will keep praying for his safe return. Thankyou for the update. X
Kim
Doglover, John who is the Traveller site manager in the area and is an avid dog lover assured me that when he visits the sites he always looks around for Rafiki and other dogs that are missing. When the Tracker tracked Rafiki's scent the trail stopped outside the gate of Tiffins sports ground Hampton Court Road end. I sent a poster of Rafiki to the school and asked them to distribute a copy to the childrens parents just in case the gate was open and he went inside. Because of the lack of sightings of him I believe that he was picked up by someone and will be back at some point.
Doglover
I have just looked at the area on Google Earth where Rafiki went missing and I know it is a long time since the date, but just a thought, were all Reserviors , quarries and Woodland searched, where he may have fallen down holes etc. If they were and he has not been sighted, do you think that someone could have picked him up n a car who was not from the area and taken him home with them? If this is the case, is there any way of alerting the WHOLE of the UK. I do not do Facebook or Twitter so unable to help there. x
Doglover
Dear Tremaine and family. I have only just seen the post on Rafiki and I have read every one and it is breaking my heart, so I dare not even imagine what it is doing to yours. So many dogs are being stolen lately and I wonder if this is what has happened to Raf. I suggested Travellers sites to be visited personally and unexpectedly, as they like Lurchers and Spaniels as they use them as working dogs to hunt etc. I live in Essex too far away to physically help, but I will be praying for you and for Rafiki and will be sending out POSITIVE thoughts that he will be found, God Bless yu all. xxx
Evabrick
Just watched lovely video of Rafiki, if anyone has taken Rafiki please return to family who obviously love and miss him very much.

All I know is in here...http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/family-blown-away-community-effort-10032285, GEt Surrey are the only media who have carried his story. If I were his owners I might take their son's letter and post it onto a few Facebook pages....
DogLostNina
Have followed Rafikis story from the start. Without me trawling through all the messages can anyone tell me what were the circumstances of his disappearance. ie did he escape from the garden, do you think he was taken, were there any persons working in the property, was he being walked.
Skywalker99
Rafiki has been missing 4 months today, someone must know something, or know who has him?
Skywalker99
apparently he had never walked to route Jenny tracked him. I do wonder if he was stolen though though...he got out of a garden that is surrounded by other gardens (or so I understand from the Get Surrey article).
Kim
It just seems that since he was seen at Esher station there really has not bee anything concrete. I just wonder the route that Jenny tracked him was one that he frequently went so his scent would be strong there anyway. I would have thought that four months there would have been a definite sighting and there has not been. I will try and contact the Kaiser Chiefs and also ring Sandown Race course and see how we get on there. Its such a shame that the cctv at the station was cleared as this really would have helped. I wonder if the person that saw Rafiki on that day said if he run off or where he actually went.

Sandown Park must know which trainers were at the meeting on 6th August (shoulnt they?), I wonder if they could be persuaded to contact them all to see if anyone took an extra animal home or saw Raf? Have wondered about this but it contradicts the 'Jenny tacked him to Kingston' evidence...you can see how much Raf adored his owners here https://www.facebook.com/missingspringerspaniel/photos/a.1480895395558918.1073741827.1480886428893148/1526066451041812/?type=3&theater

In an effort to get publicity has anyone contacted Kaiser Chiefs and asked for their support with regards to their fans.
Kim
I have put the following on facebook and other sites with a photo of Rafiki.

HELP IS NEEDED FROM THE PUBLIC. The last confirmed sighting of Rafiki on the 6th August was at Esher Station. There was a meeting on at sandown racecourse and also in the evening the kaiser Chiefs had a venue. Obviously there would have been hundreds of people using the station. If you were at sandown on that day please take a moment to see if you can remember seeing Rafiki either by himself or with someone and if you have any information please get in touch.
His family are missing him terribly and he needs to come home. There is also a reward for any information that leads to rafiki being found. Thank you.

Its all too quiet :-( So many people wanting Rafiki home ....where is he??????

Raf's family are heartnroken, if you have taken him in please give him back, no questions asked and the reward money can buy you your own gorgeous springer....also Kingston Guardian should ashamed of themselves for not carrying Raf's story.....Last edited: 2015-12-01 15:08:23 by Skywalker99

Where is he, he must be somewhere but where. Does someone have him, is he living rough. He sounds too smart not to be found, his owners are doing SO,SO much by leaving trails etc, others are visiting the areas where sightings have been. It is all such a mystery. There is a new possible sighting in Teddington/Strawberry hill area in Crossdeep. The details are on the Where's Rafiki Facebook page.I see that there are comments below,as Waldegrave area is nearby, but just giving info that I spotted.Last edited: 2015-11-23 08:57:55 by Pearl46
Skywalker99
Rafiki, it is forecasting snow this weekend and will be colder than you have probably ever known...you need to go home. I don't think the waldegrave road siting is likely...not clear which bridge he would have used to get there, doubt Richmond (that involves a walk along a fairly busy towpath and a trip through the town centre to get to) and think he would have turned left if he crossed Kingston Bridge because he knows BUshy Park? That would leave the footbridge at Teddington Lock but I think unlikely
Kim
Exactly what I said. I think e waldegrave sighting was a springer who resides opposite the college, I saw him there. A photo is what we need etc. on Facebook yesterday on the springers owners and lovers site a male springer was found in aldershot by the soldiers there at Caesars camp. Would be worth trying to contact the camp or aldershot police
Julie Dogs
I dont understand the possible sighting in Waldegrave road it is totally in the wrong direction away from the river and i fear that some of these sightings are other SS who are running ahead of their owners, sending his owners on a wild goose chase. If people genuinely think they have seen him they need to take a photo note his collar colour and anything else useful like how he looked eg well fed / clean /dirty etc
Meg
Feel we desperately need another push to get publicity out there that Raf is still missing. Really, really need to get him home before the cold weather sets in. Although, publicised on Facebook things seem to have gone a little quiet now. Desperate for more sightings so we can get him home with his family.

Yes...Waldegrave road has about 7 bus stops on it according to google maps..this is the other side of the river from some of the other sitings, I wonder which bridge he is using? doubt he would be going as far as Richmond Bridge?

Hi all, thank-you for keeping up the positive thoughts and efforts! It's all very much appreciated. We had another possible (very likely) sighting at noon last Sunday (8/11) that a dog matching his description was unaccompanied behind a bus stop on Waldegrave road Teddington. We dashed straight over but found nothing. More posters going up everyday. This is within his loop and so close to home. Before that we had a sighting at Teddington Locks (it was a doubtful one) but hindsight is making it seem more feasible. Plus a sighting in Kingston - so Raf could be around. Unfortunately the man who called about the Teddington sighting is not answering my calls or texts to help spot the exact bus stop so that Jenny and Tiga can come out to look for Raf. Will keep trying. xx
ClaireC
Hi Rose my dog that i eventually coaxed in had been out for 18 months. SS can certainly "live off the land". Plenty of food around if you think in terms of road kill for instance. Fat pigeons are another food source! Xx
Skywalker99
This is interesting (and hopeful), one of 'Team Rafiki', who has a dog she is trying to train to track, has commented about his last sighting that it is in an area her dog took her too when she was looking for Rafiki. Rose - he has walked miles, it is 5 miles back to his old home in Kingston! Hopefully Jenny and Tiga will be able to come and track him again soon...
Rose
2k shares and almost 3 months later Rafiki still not found. Would it be possible for him to have survived this long out in the open? This poor boy must have walked miles if he is trying to get back home, bless him x
Meg
Have just returned from scouring the area after seeing Facebook message but no luck. Walked from Long Ditton to Weston Green and the surrounding area and back through Thames Ditton village but alas no sighting. Have tonight contacted a neighbour of the owners of Rafiki who made a 1st alert about him being missing on Streetlife. Hope she gets the message as have asked if she would keep an eye out for him near his home as he is so near. Fingers crossed he will be home very soon.
Wonderous
On his Facebook page, so many people are all doing so much today. So many messages of hope and help, come on Rafiki make everyone happy and come home.
Skywalker99
Also this sighting is within about 500m of where Rafiki lives
Skywalker99
Another possible sighting of Rafiki tonight close to Marneys pub on Weston green, Thames Ditton, owners are abroad until tomorrow.....
Meg
Have noted that the posters I placed around Long Ditton have been removed, but have paid to have some placed in the local shop windows. Such a long time and still missing. Fast approaching the onset of fireworks and concerned that they will really upset him. Please can we try a further push to find him, although not really sure though what other action we can take as seem to have covered all the bases. So frustrating. Please Rafiki come home or at least show your face to someone who can get you home safe!!

I spent yesterday along the river covering Teddington - ham with not a lot of luck. One thing I noticed is that a lot of people are aware and will keep an eye out for him. I took my dog Sid but he is in early training of scent work and because it rained most of the day it made it difficult. I will be going back there at the weekend in the evening and check again. Hopefully we can get a sighting that is closer than a week.

Hi all. Possible sighting in TEDDINGTON. Just had a call that a dog matching Raf's description was seen running past the Teddington lock towards Richmond. He was wet and unkept - 10am in the morning with no owner in sight. Unfortunately this was LAST weekend Saturday 10th. So he may or may not still be there but it would be on the route he seems to be taking along the river. If you are in KINGSTON/TEDDINGTON/RICHMOND, please keep an eye out. xxxxx Off to poster the area now. xx

someone must know something, he can't just have disappeared.

One other question, when rafiki was spotted at esher train station did the person say what he was doing and where he went ?
Kim
Tremaine if you contact your borough council to see of they have a Traveller liaison officer and I will contact Spelthorne. I do know some local travellers so I will make contact and see if they can help.
Lin Iddon
Tremaine, Skywalker99 from Doglost asked me to pass on the following to you - I posted it on Bella the missing springers poster. I am sure you will have done much of this but good luck.

Text from Bella's page.

Owner can ring chip company to put temporary contact phone number under the circumstances. They have to make this girl too hot to handle. Posters are sooo important. get them everywhere, display them in vehicles, call every vets and email poster. As many shops as possible, pet shops, pubs, local shops. if this guy stole Bella and he was on foot then he could well be local. Every council has a Traveller Liaison Officer who regularly visit traveller sites - ring them and email the doglost poster for them to distribute amongst their team. Make a friend of the dog warden. Never leave home without a pile of posters, hand them out to as many people as you can, dog walkers, school mums, council highway workers, taxi firms - just get her face out there. It took me 9 weeks to find Charlie the Springer, travellers had him! I wish you all the very best and if I can help please let me know. A thunder clap is a brilliant tool on facebook - it will reach so many people that you couldn't possibly do on your own. Also ask Doglost if Bella can appear in the Doglost column in Countryman's Weekly.
Wonderous
So many kind people doing so much and still nothing. Really hoping he is home soon like so many others are too.
Skywalker99
I saw an advert for these http://www.imber-court-dog-training.co.uk/index.html in out local pet shop, their classes are just around the corner from Rafiki's home. I have emailed them to ask if they would keep a lookout for him and also if they would make their clients aware. They do also have a facebook page but hasn't been updated in ages so not sure if it is monitored.
Evabrick
Sorry I live too far away but check daily for updates on Rafiki please everyone keep looking he has to be somewhere . Sending positive thoughts come on Rafiki show yourself.

Hi Meg I will print the posters and get them there tomorrow
Meg
Hi Kim, To date I have not had any other contact from anyone living in the area. Unfortunately as I do not drive (have had to rely on my husband to drive me when postering) am unable to do this myself. Would you please be able to do this tomorrow. Desperate to still try and locate Rafiki.

Rafiki is featured in todays Countrymans Weekly
Kim
Hi Meg if you can't get anyone to do it by Thursday I can drop them in then. I'm not too far away, unfortunately I'm miles away tomorrow.
Meg
About week ago I contacted Pippa at Parkside Pet Services which is a company with branches in Twickenham, Weybridge and whitten and covers areas local to them. They provide a service for dog sitting, walking, training and day care. I contacted them to see if they would be prepared to hand out any posters or details of missing Rafiki. Today I have received a reply saying that they would be happy to hand out leaflets/posters to their customers. Is there anyone living near Parkside Pet Services at Grotto Road KT13 8PN who could print out some posters and deliver to them?
Skywalker99
Kim - hopefully South Easter was atypo, because it is South Western trains to Esher! My point is that she should contact Network Rail as well...south western will only provide ticket office staff I am not sure they are responsible for cctv....
DogLostNina
Wonder if Kingston Council have CCTV in and around and for how long they keep recordings of the area.
Kim
I noticed that the day that Rafiki went missing there was a sandown racing meeting followed by a band. Would Sandown Racecourse not put up a poster for the next meeting, perhaps it may jog someone's memory of seeing him.
Kim
Skywalker99 - Tremaine said that he contacted South Eastern to get cctv footage for the day he was spotted at the station but by the time they responded the footage no longer existed.

Talking of trains, is there a possibility that he ended up on a train and could be in a different town? cctv would be a good idea.
Skywalker99
After the awful news about Paddy and Nelson I think people need to be very careful what questions they ask of Network rail...and ask them what/who they have checked with and what their processes and whether anyone has walked the stretch of track in question (in this case Weybridge to Kingston and Hampton Court back to where the line meets the main one) when ringing to enquire about animal accidents. Tremaine, you should probably contact Network rail about cctv too, they are responsible for station infrastructure, not the train companies. I can't believe that no-one knows anything about Rafiki, dogs don't just disappear in built up areas! If you know anything please consider this a) You can buy your own dog with the reward money (or better still rescue one!) and possibly have money left over, and b) Rafiki's owners brought him half way round the world, this is not cheap and there is a lot of paperwork involved, not something undertaken lightly; so to loose him must be devastating. I hope you're not being serious about groceries Tremaine, there is a Waitrose in Esher:-)Last edited: 2015-10-05 13:34:03 by Skywalker99

Tremaine I am sure I am not alone in thanking you for your previous post. I so much wish and hope that we see the words RAFIKI REUNITED in the very near future too.
Tremaine
Hello Everyone.

It’s been a really busy week for Team Rafiki! Last Saturday night heralded two sightings of black and white springer spaniels - one in Speer Road, Thames Ditton and the other is Brooklands, Weybridge. Later on in the week I had a call about a sighting in Hampton Common - which was later followed up by another when I camped out there this week.

As two people who are starting out in a new country with new jobs and new lives it would have been impossible for my husband and I to follow up on all of these ourselves (I still haven’t found a place to buy groceries!) and our heartfelt thanks go to so many people who have stepped in to help us in our search for our little loved one. There are so many people to thank and I’d like to mention Gina (Megan) from Doglost who nominated Raf for Dog of the week in Countryman’s weekly. The good people at About Thames Ditton who featured him again in their lovely magazine. Roz Healy for taking up Raf’s cause so whole heartedly and helping us with advice and putting up a huge amount of posters. To our neighbour Fiona who is as determined as we are to accost every dog walker and ask if they’ve seen a springer on the loose. To Skywalker99 on Doglost for helping smooth over communications across all the sites and invaluable advice and putting up posters for us. To Kim Wright who was all over the sighting in Weybridge and selflessly took up the reigns there where we simply couldn’t as well as contacting national rail and so many other organisations on our behalf. To Debby Cunliffe, Nicky Marie, Jan Hamilton, Lorna Robson and every one of over 4000 people who have shared Raf’s advertisements, Doglost Poster and Facebook posts.

To Meg and Nina (on Doglost) for contacting national media and dog walkers in different areas. To every one of you that I haven’t mentioned by name but has made a contribution, thank-you - you are all amazing and it’s so humbling to know that such good still exists when we are bombarded with so much negativity about the world through the media. Thank-you to to Jenny and her Tiga who are ever ready to help us if we could just get one confirmed sighting.

In the next few days we will, of course continue the search. Hoping desperately that more calls come in. I’m am still running a Facebook advertising campaign that has already had 32000 views across the UK and over 1000 shares on his page this week alone - Raf is such a well known dog. I will contact the Kingston Guardian (again) as suggested and the Metro and Evening Standard (Thanks Roz) to see if they will run a story for us.

I have also managed to register Raf with the Kennel Club and they put out a lost dog alert as well as post on many more Facebook sites (there are dozens). I have called the microchip company -Petlog - just to check if anyone has called about him and that our contact details are still good. They also put out a lost dog alert for us.

Sadly, tomorrow marks two months that our RAFIKI went missing, I still can’t believe I’m even typing these words it all seems so unreal still. Thank-you all for helping us through this and I’m looking forward to the day when I change his status to ‘REUNITED’. Till then, I know you will all keep looking looking out for our RAFIKI. Owner can I recap. Did you make contact with the microchip company and inform them that Rafiki is missing so that it would flag up if anyone takes him to a vet for whatever reason.
Wonderous
Is it certain it was Rafiki at the station?
Kim
Hi Tremaine was he spotted at Kingston Station on the same day he went missing ?
Tremaine
Thanks Kim, that is good news and very helpful, especially after the sad news of Paddy and Nelson. On the up Rafiki was in the local magazine today - About Thames Ditton. Let's see if this brings more calls. What a famous little lost dog. (I had contacted South Eastern also to get CCTV footage of the day Raf was spotted at the station but by the time they got back to me the footage no longer existed.)
Kim
sorry Tremaine I did not see your comment that he has had him for 10 years. The good news is that I called network rail and there has not been any animal accidents on the rail line covering the time Rafiki has been missing in all the areas I stated. Chin up, he's out there someone and we will find him
Kim
Where is Hampton park, do you mean Hampton court park or the one in station road Hampton ?
Tremaine
I've just been informed that there is a man who matches this description with a springer named Charlie who walks his dog there infrequently. He works shifts and has had Charlie for 10 years. I'm guessing it's him that was seen. 'sad face'
Kim
Hi Tremaine when you say Hampton Park/playground where is that. Is it the one off station road Hampton. The only thing if it is Rafiki and he sees the posters it may stop him from walking him, difficult to know what to do. I am away this weekend but when I get back if he is not found I will pop over and get something of Rafiki and see if Sid can scent him in Hampton.
Tremaine
ANOTHER POSSIBLE SIGHTING in Hampton: A dog matching Rafiki's description has been seen 3 times in Hampton park/playground by two different people. I've been hanging around there this week and have managed to gather the following: the man seen with the dog had recently acquired the dog and was not sure if it is a springer spaniel or cocker spaniel (Raf is a smallish springer). He walked the dog twice over lunch time last week but not this week so possible works shifts. He is new to the 'dog walking' community that seem to know each other in Hampton Park. Of course this may not be Rafiki but it would be wonderful to know for sure. I have handed out flyers and placed in the letter boxes all around the park, the kids playground and common have posters. Have spoken to postmen and will visit the police in the are and try put up more posters this weekend. (still exploring the Speer road possible sighting as well but have not had another call about that.) Last edited: 2015-10-02 15:14:20 by Tremaine

Shared on Twitter inc. Elmbridge / Kingston sites. Hope this lovely boy is found soon.
DogLostNina
Come on Rafiki you are slipping down the page we want you home as soon as possible.
Kim
I noticed on preloved site that there were adverts for wanted springer spaniels to train for working dogs so I sent them all comments asking to contact if anyone in the past 6 weeks and since approaches them with a dog that looks like Raf and sent them the information.
DogLostNina
I have been off line for a day and a half nearly and I am so impressed by the hard work you have all done in that time. Thank you. Hopefully I will be still online after today as I am having a new computer installed with windows 10!
Skywalker99
Kept my eyes peeled at 5.00am in the taxi to Heathroe the other morning as it went through Kingston, Hampton and Teddington, no dogs of any description on the loose to be seen. Has the Kingston Guardian covered his story? It is delivered free to every house in the borough. How much would a half page advert cost?
Kim
Went to Brooklands today at Currys where there was a possible sighting of Rafiki. Put posters up in many shops in the trading estate, park/common opposite on the information board plus walked all around the common asking people. I also put posters in byfleet station and gave one to the local postman in Weybridge to put up in the sorting office. Unfortunately I did not get any further news of any sightings but there are loads of places on the common with plenty of water and birds, rabbits and squirrels. I don't know why but I get a gut feeling that he may well be still in the Kingston area or possibly someone has him. Maybe on the next sighting we all can go there immediately and look for him.
Meg
On 25th September I contacted via email the newspaper group for The Evening Standard which also has the Metro, both of which are free newspapers issued in London and read by many, many commuters from London to the outer areas.I suggested that they might be interested in publishing a story of Rafiki the well travelled dog who is now missing and so sorely missed and hunted for. Sad to say that they have not acknowledged, nor indeed replied to my request.
Rose
Being in local paper hasnt been successful. What about getting something in national paper as its been almost 2 months since he escaped? Come on neighbours has someone recently got a dog like this? So hope he is found very soon x
Wonderous
So many people all want Rafiki home, so many, many wonderful people helping. When he is home we will want so many updates and pictures from you Tremaine and Johan on Facebook, you wont forget now will you :-)
DogLostNina
Do we have anyone viewing doglost that live in Weybridge or nearby areas who are members of sports clubs or any club or orgisation who could print off a poster please.Last edited: 2015-09-29 15:06:29 by Nina

Thank-you, Thank-you Kim, Meg and Nina for all your efforts. You are both so kind! If collective effort could Bring Raf he would be home 10 times over ;). I've just had a call with a possible sighting in Hampton now as well. So will add that to my areas to cover. The latest round of facebook advertising is really bringing in a lot of possibilities and leads to follow up on. Just wish I knew which was the right one. May not put up posters there though as this dog was on a lead but I will camp out and speak to all the dog walkers there. Thanks again for giving of your time so generously and of course, Skywalker99 for your continued support. Tremaine

Thanks KIm. I sent an email to Brooklands Radio hope it got through it hasn't been retuned yet!
Kim
I've run off some posters and will go to Brooklands/Weybridge in the morning
and distribute them.
MJ
Posters were still in place in Esher woods a few days ago but not in the car park by Copsem lane
Meg
Am in the process of contacting private dog walking companies in Weybridge for them to be alert.
DogLostNina
Since my last message I have googled Weybridge and have come up with 'All about Weybridge' site there are so many clubs, organisations and schools to contact more than I can handle, anyone want to join me in having a go on sending posters.
DogLostNina
Thank you so much Kim, you are giving us the most positive feed back that we have had recently. I am glad to hear that you were able to email the poster I don't do facebook or twitter and I felt that I was losing touch with modern technology.Last edited: 2015-09-28 17:16:07 by Nina
Kim
On facebook there was also a sighting on Speer road Thames Ditton two days ago, any news on this ?
Kim
I sent Rafiki's poster via email over to Brooklands Museum reception and they are going to put it up in their shop front.
Kim
I'll send a poster to Brooklands as we are members.
DogLostNina
Thanks Kim. How difficult is it these days to get posters emaled to local companies, councils. sorting offices, tourist attractions like Brooklands, anyone know just to save time, or are they declined or made difficult to get through.
Kim
I will go there as I know Brooklands but can't do it until Wednesday due to work commitments.
Skywalker99
Nina, I think Rafiki's owners have had real problems with posters being taken down...and they have a huge area to cover...am at work on the southbank at the moment and away the rest of the week so can do nothing. I hope there is someone in Weybridge who can poster the Brooklands area where he was seen.
Kim
I am off work on Wednesday and Will take my dog over there with some posters and see if anyone has seen him.
DogLostNina
Just wish I lived nearer its years since I was in that area. Are there schools and colleges that could help by having posters up also taxi firms, pet shops, dog groomers, notice boards, dog bins the list could be endless.
Skywalker99
..and the guy was responding to a post with Rafiki's photo on...
Skywalker99
Echoed Nina, and were it not for Jenny and Tiga's tracking eveidence I would be tempted to think he had been stolen from the garden where he was. There are many unverified sightings of dogs on this site....doesn't mean they shouldn't be followed up....the place in Brooklands where the dogf was spotted is not somewhere you would expect to see a dog on its own...and there is a park on one side of the road which needs postering, he could be hiding out in there
DogLostNina
I cant answer that question Kim but there have been so few sightings since he went missing I personally am just glad that people are aware of his plight.
Kim
Do we actually know that it is Rafiki, has the gentleman identified him by his photo.
DogLostNina
Come on people of Weybridge if the sighting is of Rafiki please help find him so that we can get him back home.Last edited: 2015-09-28 14:05:59 by Nina

I agree with you Nanny Noodle but I always look on doglost and noticed Rafiki missing and have been on the lookout for ages. I cycled the river path from Walton to Kingston last week and then through bushy park to see if he was about but found nothing. I will of course keep looking for him and hope he is safe with his family soon. Kim - Sunbury
Nanny Noodle
So so sorry to read through this and see Rafiki has been missing such a long time. I really feel for you Tremaine and Johan :(
Just a suggestion for Admin, in no way a criticism as you do such an amazing job, but being in TW16 I have only received the alert in the last couple of days and I wonder whether a wider net should be thrown earlier. My usual daily walks are of course very local but at least once a week I am also walking in either Esher, Cobham, Weybridge, Bushy Park etc and yet have been unaware of Rafiki, or the vast area he has covered, and the enormous search operation.
I will keep absolutely everything crossed for a happy ending to this story and will certainly be on the lookout for him and try to help spread the word xx
Debby Cunliffe
Tremaine has made contact with Antonio on the group. He has clarified that the dog he saw was on the "sidewalk of Curry's PC World at Brooklands/Weybridge. X
MJ
I would think that people mean Brooklands in Weybridge when they just say Brooklands??? that is what I would understand living in the area.
Skywalker99
Link to the FB group that Debby posted in https://www.facebook.com/groups/240599159295406/?ref=ts&fref=ts, you'll need to join. There are screenshots on Rafiki's Facebook page :)Last edited: 2015-09-28 07:17:56 by Skywalker99

Good morning, thank you Debby and Alison for following up on the possible sighting last night. Don't ever worry about it being too late to call.. it never is. Could you let me have the name of the page where Antonio first posted as I can't seem to see that one. Then I'll follow up with him. It's a pity he couldn't give more details. I found a brooklands in Weybridge as well as a Brooklands road in Thames ditton.Last edited: 2015-09-28 07:10:42 by Tremaine

Have just asked Antonio if he's managed to reach the owners and have asked for more details on exact location of the sighting. Will text the owner letting them know to check either this thread or their page and if they've heard from Antonio. Is late now so don't want to potentially wake them by ringing. UPDATE. Just seen Alison has let owner know so won't contact them. Thanks Alison. Will update here with any more information if I get it on location of possible sighting. I think you should Debby as admin dont always have time to monitor all the dogs. Make sure you quote Rafiki and his ref. number. I am sure it will help. thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more information other than Brooklands which is why I asked the chap who saw a dog looking like Rafiki out alone looking frightened to contact the owners directly so they could get exact details first hand. An happy to ask more questions though if Admin would like me to? Have also posted pics of both the group name and the chap's post on Rafiki's page and will text the owner now if Admin think I should? Nina, Rafiki's owners have been contacting local schools but with work commitnments it has been difficult to get tot hem all, they asked for help in this, not sure if they got any.

I am still looking in on Rafiki's page and wishing him home. Please owner can we recap, did you manage to get any posters into local schools, did you manage to contact any local radio stations and taxi firms.
Skywalker99
No problem, he looks such a gorgeous dog. Posters in Kingston have all been taken down too, so if anyone can put anymore up. Tremaine, it is probably worth paying the small amount to have them displayed in local newsagents...at least they will not get ripped down
Tremaine
Hello everyone, Firstly Skywalker99 - thank-you so much for keeping this forum up to date. It's very kind of you. The social media effort has been quite overwhelming, especially with so many found Springer spaniels that look like Raf. I've seen every one, I find myself looking for similarities rather than differences in the hope that I can will it to be Raf. But sadly our Raf Raf is still out there. We had another feature in the Surrey Comet but I can also confirm that every public poster I have put up in the Hampton Court/Thames Ditton Area has now been removed. WE are still on foot in the commons every weekend (and enjoying the change of season too) and maintain a strict scenting regime around the house and neighborhood (I'm not sure wha the neighbours think of the crazy lady with her spray bottle!) Have a wonderful weekend all and let's hope it brings good news. T
Skywalker99
Rafiki's pwner has said on his facebook page that Scruffpots spaniel is not Rsfiki...do not know about the other one that Meg has seen.
Meg
Just seen another spaniel for sale before midnight on Gumtree. Have posted on Facebook. Could this be Rafiki
Wonderous
Scruffpot its a very similar face and eyes but, looks to me like Rafiki has more black than this dog on the right hand side of his nose and the spots are not quite right. Its good so many are looking for him, he must be somewhere.
Skywalker99
From the area Jenny tracked Rafiki's owners have a huge area to poster (Kingston, Surbiton, Esher, Hinchley Wood, E &W Molesey, Hampton Court, Hampton Wick, Thames Ditton etc.)...if you are in those areas and can print of and put up some posters I am sure they would be very grateful!
alikat
Had a quick look Scruffpot and it does look very similar. However, I don't think the markings on the muzzle and round the mouth are quite the same. The owner will know.
Scruffpot
I saw a very, very similar dog on Gumtree yesterday and posted it on FB The ad has now been removed but the photo remains on my FB shares. Here is a link to one of my shares for anyone on FB who can access. https://www.facebook.com/groups/227656023989200/permalink/898301160258013/

It was in Heald Green Stockport Manchester area. Perhaps Gumtree can help locate?
Skywalker99
Rafiki's owners are new to th UK so do not have the network of neighbours/friends/family here that most other people do....please keep sharing, there has been no news of him.
Skywalker99
Wfh again today, I had to go to Squires garden centre at Long Ditton, gave them a poster which they have put up behind the tills. Just wondered, have the people on the allotments on Hampton Court Way near where Rafiki went missing from been made aware and given posters?
Skywalker99
Rafiki's owners have a huge challenge, Jenny and Tiga tracked him 5 miles back to their old apartment, and back again. He appears to have gone down one side of the river and back the other side. Lots of open ground where he can stay safe, but most of it does not have public access, but also some very

busy road s and railway tracks. His owners are f ding it difficult with their work
Commitments to get psoters into schools so if anyone can help.....Last edited: 2015-09-13 23:13:07 by Skywalker99

Raf's story is in the Surrey Advertiser today! Skywalker99, thank-you for passing on more posters, you are such a huge help in our search. We have contacted several cleaning cleaning companies but still have more to go! Hadn't thought of care agencies. You're right, our Raf must be somewhere and someone must know something! T

WFH today, so gave some posters to my cleaners. The agency has clients in Esher and Surbiton so have asked they ask their staff if any have recently acquired anew adult sproinger. Might be worth contacting all cleaning agencies/window cleaners/gardening firm in the are as they go into peoples home...plus care agencies as well. If you are reading this and know where he is....do the right thing and call his owners.

Come on Rafiki we all want you home with your family, you are out there somewhere.

Can't help wondering that as Rafiki was newly arrived in the UK, and managed to find his way back to his old home, whether it might be possible to interest that national press in his story...does anyone have any contacts?

Thank you for your detailed update, lots of people appreciate hearing what is being done. Really wishing for Rafiki to be home. I check at least once a day as do others I am sure. Hope your injury heals soon.

Sorry to hear that your injury may curtail you searching efforts. Would you be able to ride a bike or would that be to painful.
Johan
Good day all

I have been rather busy during the last several weeks looking for my lost friend. Two weeks ago my attention was focused on Arbrook Common and Esher Common. After spending a considerable amount of time exploring the area surrounding Arbrook I am fairly certain Rafiki has moved on, assuming he was even there. The presence of a coalition of foxes, including a female with three cubs, rule out that he would stay around. The fact that a male springer fitting Rafiki’s description lives near the area, and that same is known to ramble in the part of the common wear Rafiki was spotted, suggest that he might never have been there.

To be thorough I ran Esher common and the adjacent woods for a couple of consecutive days calling Rafiki out as I went. One of his jobs is to guide me when I run cross-country in the dark / dusk. Running with me and leading the way, me totalling trusting his decisions in absolute dark, is possibly his favourite activity; he would come out if heard me approaching. Nothing. Beautiful woods early in the morning; I will definitely be back.

My attention shifted after Jenney from www.k9tracker.co.uk tracked Rafiki in a loop leading to Kingston and back to my neighbourhood. I went undercover for a while in Kingston looking for Rafiki after an acquaintance spotted him leashed to a strange woman in the park where him & I used to have sundowners. Jenny and her ever faithful Tiger could find no sign of his sent in the same area; all we know is he walked up to our old apartment door and then all the way back via the route he and I used to take to Bushy park. Jenny, Tiger and Tremaine managed to track another older springer down who had subsequently been returned to his owners; a good ending for some then. During the Kingston “period” I was slowed down for a while when an old injury caught up with me.

Over the last week I have mapped out a running route spanning the area where his sent was tracked. I run this fairly regularly now, albeit slowly, early mornings at about 5am, as was my routine with Rafiki. No sign as of yet. There is only two routes I have not covered. The first runs along the river Mole to my neighbourhood and the second runs from Kingston along the Thames to my neighbourhood. Rafiki was never on either of these routes with me, but they are adjacent to the loop Jenny tracked and I feel the need rule out the obvious.

For now my injury will continue to hamper my efforts over the next week or so as I must take a bit of a break to allow it to heal (after a certain age one cannot run 40 - 50k a weak for too long without taking a break!).

Any way, will keep you posted.

Raffia’s dad.

Not surprised the shops in Esher are too snotty to put up a poster (let's hope they never loose a pet), Tremaine, news agents are your best bet for shops, they may charges couple of pounds a week but the posters will stay there!. His poster is in my local pet shop and they will keep it there until he is found. There are lots of celebs live in this are (Andy Murray, most of Chelsea FC, Robson Green, Eamon Homnes, Mick Hucknall, Brian May, Cliff Richard to name a few). Anyone tweeting Rafiki might want to tweet the celebs too...just google celebrities living in Esher for lots more.
DogLostNina
Owner please don't dismiss asking schools to get involved. Have you notified the local sorting office and taxi companies. Heaven forbid I was in your position but I would stand in the busiest place around with a loud hailer and let everyone know that my dog was missing and give out posters at the same time. Not sure if it would be legal but I would take a chance you might even attract media coverage by doing so.
Tremaine
You are all wonderful for sharing our search and helping us so actively. Thank-you. Two black and white male springers were found this weekend in different counties, but sadly neither are Raf. Skywalker99 - Thank-you so much for your efforts, it's invaluable. We had put posters up in every bus stop in Esher high street but they've all been removed now. The shops we asked wouldn't put up. We were allowed to put up in Hinchley Wood station but I haven't been back to check if they are still up. I'm now focussing on newspapers and advertising in local media and on facebook pages and websites - it just all takes time. Thank-you again for your efforts. Have just got a laminator but need to print more posters to get going again. We've spent this weekend combing Bushy park (not allowed to put posters up there either ;(. Kim, thank-you for spreading the word on Twitter! That's great. Will look into Get Surrey as well. Hopefully we'll have a feature in the Surrey Advertiser soon. And hopefully our little Lost Soul will pop up somewhere!!

Left his poster with the cattery we use in Cobham, they say they will put it up. Had to call into Hinchley Wood on my way home so paid Hinchley Wood News (in the shops near the station) to display one for 3 weeks (it definitely won't get ripped down). Might be worth plastering this small shopping area, which is less than one mile from where he went missing, with posters as heavy footfall to and from the station. No obvious posters in central Esher - did they get taken down? Expect the shops there are all too snotty to put one up..is there a newsagent who would? Also try shops in the paarade on the right down the A308 as close to where he went. Also there are two car parks on the A307 with notice boards, one on the left just after you cross the A3 and one on the right about 1/2 mile past the turn for Weston Green (I think)..have you thought about buying a laminator for the posters? you can get one for around £20 at Staples.

I'm not great with twitter but I have just put a picture of Rafiki on it and said for all to be on the lookout and go to Doglost.co.uk for further details
Skywalker99
says on his FB page Rafiki's owners don't really do twitter...can anyone help, i don't either
Skywalker99
Get Surrey have a lost/found pets section on their website...might be worth registering him on there. Have shared him to lots of local FB pages
Skywalker99
Worth asking if schools will put up a poster...children do miss nothing. Do hope he keeps away from that railway line.
DogLostNina
I do hope this suggestion wont be needed and that your dog will be home. But in the next week I believe in different areas schools will be returning from the summer break. If you offer a reward towards funds schools and colleges may get the word out. Children don't miss a thing.
Skywalker99
I would be heartbroken if I had brought this gorgeous dog halfway round the world and he had got lost. I hope he is just hiding out on all that common land and hasn't been picked up by someone without a conscience. If posters are being taken down in central Kingston it's probably the drunken output from the night clubs, anywhere else be suspicious. If you haven't already might be worth asking if you could leave a pile of leaflets in the church in Kingston marketplace, plus see if the cafes in the apple market will put up a poster also the Druids head, and that cafe on the corner opposite the Druids head. You sound so positive Tremaine, not sure I would be. I have shared his details to lots of local pages.
Tremaine
Hi all, I just wanted to say an enormous and heartfelt thank-you to Jenny and Tiga. You have both been so generous with your time and energy. Not only is Tiga a super tracker dog (and ridiculously cute) but Jenny is a super sleuth herself helping us follow up on clues and sightings and putting all the pieces of a strange puzzle together. Yes, we had no new leads from our day out tracking but we could close many old ones which is valuable too. I still have much postering work to do in Kingston. It's a large area and I've concentrated on the vets/petshops and delivery people. Sadly, many of my posters are being taken down just as fast as they're being put up - they are being ripped off and left on the ground nearby so I suspect it's not the officials. If anyone is the area between Kingston and Hampton Court, Thames Ditton and Esher and can print off 1 or 2 posters and pop them up anywhere - that would be invaluable. Sadly I'm back at work tomorrow so will have much less time to devote but will continue to do all I can for Raf - no ways will we stop looking until he is home safe. Tremaine
Jenny & Tiga k9tracker
Another long day for Tiga tracking Rafiki but sadly no joy. Our hopes were raised when we heard of a black & white springer being picked up and finder trying to find owner. We followed this through and eventually found the dog but it was not Rafiki but another look alike that had escaped for an hour.
We then went to follow up on the Arkbrook Lane sighting but sadly again Tiga did not pick up any scent and after speaking to lots,of dog walkers it turned out to be
another look alike that lived in the house where the sighting was.
Tremaine is doing absolutely everything possible to find Rafiki and if posters are not up she has not been allowed to put them up - John Lewis, Bushey Park etc
A story is being done by her young son which will go on the local papers this week.
The area is huge with all the local commons but Rafiki is a very fit dog and probably travelling by night as he ran with Johan late at night.
Yes Skywalker99 Rafiki jumped the fence of the owners new home after only 3 days and was seen several times over the next few hours. Tiga then tracked from here to the apartment that owners had just moved from in Kingston. Since then there have been no more clues.
Skywalker99
According to Rafiki's Facebook page he jumped over the fence of the house his owners had just moved to, 4 days after moving in.
Kim
Tremaine how did raf go missing. Where were you and what was you doing. I lost my dog last year in the winter for 3 days and I searched everywhere day and night. I kept going back to the same place but could not find him. He is not one for letting you know he is there because he thinks he is in trouble. I couldn't get it out of my mind so I took my other dog again and she led me over to a spot I had searched numerous times and found him trapped. He was down a shelter in the floor which I wouldn't have found. The strange thing with Raf is there is no sightings which means he may be in a situation where he can not get out of or someone has him. A lady put a little old Yorkshire terrier that went missing on doglost with a reward and funny enough after a few days someone came forward with him, but I know rewards are not always the answer. Good luck and wherever I go I keep looking. Kim
Wonderous
Tremaine, hopefully it is just a matter of time before Raf is back home and has his family again. Keep going, it will happen.
Skywalker99
I did spot another one in Clarence street but no others, none along the river although I have to concede central Kingston is not the easiest place to poster. Have you asked the people in the houseboats on the Hampton court side of Kingston bridge? There is loads of dense undergrowth near where you live for him to hole up in and remain out of view!
Skywalker99
I am in Kingston, there are not enough posters up, only one in the marketplace that I spotted. You need lots more. Can you get one in the neighbourhood notice board next to the CCTV pole outside bentall centre and John Lewis? Says to call0208547 1221 to display there...and put one on the big blue CCTV pole behind it. Take a look at what the council have done with TT heir anti fouling notices and copy their strategy.
Skywalker99
And poster bushy park too
Skywalker99
Any chance of getting an article in the Kingston Guardian (the free newspaper distributed to all homes in the borough). I would also poster the car parks and gates to Richmond Park (big dog walking country), Ham Common and Canbury (?) Park (the one where the Boaters pub is). If he has been taken in by someone local he may well be walked there.
DogLostNina
Owner would you have reached Kingston Hospital area and the Kingston water front area in your postering they may be a very busy areas with people to poster.
Tremaine
And to add, we went to Kingston really early in the morning and gave out cards to all the dustmen, delivery people. traffic wardens etc that we could find. CCTV has been a no go so far but the stall holders know (they still remember him as he used to nick their basil). I have to make work of getting word out around the university there still.
Tremaine
Hi All, Raf's Mom here. thank-you for your comments and suggestions. Yes, we've walked back from Kingston to home in Esher and spent hours and hours searching in Kingston. Thanks to an incredible community of dog lovers and just generally good people Raf's Facebook page has received 60k views in the area and been shared over 1000 times. (I'm trying hard to thank every one but am a bit overwhelmed at the moment). We've scented again from the main streets to the house and today are visiting more pet shops and vets. Posters are up in Kingston and I heard two ladies at a traffic light there talking about 'the dog that walked all the way back to Kingston from 'far away'' ;). Our little Raf is a celebrity - I just wish he would show up now. We are starting to believe that he has indeed been taken and are very much hoping that someone spots him and let's us know. Thanks again for all your support, suggestions and encouragements. Let's get our Little Soul home before the winter.
Wonderous
Jonathan that sounds a good idea to me.
He would pick up your scent and know you have been there. Stay in that place as long as you can. The people that live there too will surely look for him? So hope you find him soon he is going to wonder where you are.Last edited: 2015-08-29 11:02:16 by Wonderous

Just another idea which sprung to mind: I don't know whether anyone has tried this before but why not walk the route from where Tiga last scented Rafiki back towards your new home, keep walking the same route back and forth without deviation as your boy might cut your trail and follow it back to where you now live. I have a springer which was being walked by a friend in the same woods as I was walking my other two dogs, he cut my trail without knowing that I was in the woods and just took off from my friend and tracked me down.

It might be worth asking the CCTV watchers in Kingston to keep a look out on their monitors for Rafiki or whether they have seen him and when.
I would assume that it is a council run CCTV system

thanks Gino. Alerts went out to KT8 when Rafiki was first lost skywalker99. I asked about the other area too but I don't believe he had gone there so I think we have it covered postcode wise thanks. The tracking led back to Esher area.

It might also be worth sending alerts to KT8 and TW12 areas on the other side of the river, reading Jenny's account on the K9tracker FB page they tracked that side of the river yesterday too. Thanks for the lovely update Tremaine! Wow, that is one clever dog! Shows how dogs will move around when they are lost. He is definitely going to familiar places.
Yes, scenting, mapping and 'how to cathc your dog' advice was sent to Tremaine when Rafiki was first lost Nina. Owners have been using all that is appropriate already which is good.
looks like the area of your search needs to be widened now soI will ask for some extra alerts to go out.

I haven't read all the posts to find out but I was wondering if scenting advice had been given and whether in this case it would prove usefull. I am sure HQ would be glad of giving details as I think this method is so important.

Update from Mom - What a wonderful day today. Jenny and her smart and determined Tiga from www.k9tracker.co.uk agreed to help us track Rafiki. We haven't found him yet, but guess where Tiga headed straight off to? Not woods or commons filled with bunnies but rather the apartment we stayed in for 6 weeks in KINGSTON when we first arrived in the UK. I was amazed that he took us to the very places that Raf and I had visited so long ago. So now we have a new game plan. I will be going out to plaster Kingston full of posters as we suspect Raf is between Esher and there and still moving around very late at night. If anyone is in that area, or Surbiton, please help us by putting up a few posters or just spreading the word. I feel so much more hopeful than I had last night. Our brave boy is out there looking for US! Will keep you posted. Sleep tight my Raf we won't give up on you. X T

Well done Tremaine. Great to hear that you have some publicity now.

Sorry to hear some posters are being taken down. I have emailed you about this and some other things.
Best of luck today.

Nothing further to repot I'm afraid. I took the day off to explore the local golf courses and I must say, what a beautiful day is was for that! Tomorrow is a big search day past Arbrook/Esher Common/Claremont Landscape Gardens and down towards the A3. Just invested in new hiking boots to help keep up the pace. If you know anyone in that area (towards Oxshott) please do pass on Rafiki's details. https://www.facebook.com/missingspringerspaniel. He's also in the Surrey Comet for the next 3 weeks (but hoping he'll be home way before then.)

Update from Rafiki's Dad: Let me start by saying thank you for the overwhelming support from our community here in Surrey, and dog lovers in general. Being new to the area it is fantastic to find a community of people who take the time for each other. On my travels of late I have bumped into numerous walkers who carry our phone numbers in their pocket calling "Raf-Raf" as they go about their daily ramble. Our family thanks all of you. Last week I found signs of a den and a recent kill in the woods around Littleworth Common. It was not a fox as their dens tend to be deeper in the foliage and further from human footfall. I went back there numerous times but concluded the den had been abandoned, perhaps due to the arrival of heavy machinery at around the same time. For the rest of the week I then explored adjacent woods and common areas but with little success. Imagine our delight then when a kind stranger phoned us reporting a sighting in Arbrook lane this Saturday night. The thing to note is that this is a far bigger area than that of Littleworth Common, with numerous boltholes beyond the A3 as well as access other greenbelt areas. Also of note from the sighting was that Rafiki did not appear to look underfed. I took heart from this as he is less likely to move on if he has found a reliable source of food. And judging from the number of dear and foxes (who will not hang around if food was scarse) roaming that area, I would say he would be well bid. Also note that he was comfortable being in the open, sniffing rubbish bins, at about 6:30pm. This suggeset he has not gone "wild" (this takes a very long time for an animal who was so well loved and cared for as he was) and he is comfortable being seen, if not approachable: Just yet. Between myself, my family and numerous willing ramblers we have explored most of the surrounding area but with little luck so far. I say so far; he is most likely to show himself when hungry; so if he had success recently he would be scarse for a while. For the rest of the week I am going switch tact and start as early as possible, which is when he and I used to do our cross-country runs. Finger crossed All the best Johan

Hi Meg, thanks for the note about the poster. I know which one you are referring to, unfortunately, it's a very old one and was there before Raf went missing. Thanks again. T
Meg
Hi, Unfortunately the poster cellotaped to the lamppost only said Animal found and the telephone number to contact. There were 2 other boxes on the poster for details of description and type (I think) but these wee left blank. I do not know how long the poster has been there as only saw very late last night. Might it be worth asking at the houses just near the poster to see if they might be able to throw some light on it. Could one of them have reported to RSPCA or would the RSPCA ask locally?? Really hope he is found soon.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks Meg. Did the notice mention which centre that notice was issued from please?

Tremaine: If it is Rafiki then I would question why he was not scanned for a microchip. It is required by law for anyone (incuding the RSPCA) to report finding a dog to the Dog Wardens.
Also the local Dog Wardens should be aware of any found dogs so perhaps you would ring them first to see if they can tell you if it is Rafiki.
(Apparently the RSPCA now log all lost and found animals on a website called PetsLocated.com so Tremaine I suggest you have a look just in case but unfortunately there is a fee for doing this)
Got my fingers crossed that it is your lad.

Hi Have been following the case of Rafiki in the hope that he has been found.
Tonight we have a drive and walk around Esher. I noted that on Lower Green Road, which is at the back of Esher station, there is a notice from the RSPCA saying 'Animal Found' contact 03001234999. No details were given as to the type of animal. This poster is on lamppost no 28 opposite the house of no 10. It is difficult to see as so late, how long the poster has been there. Just thought it might refer to Rafiki.
Hope he is found soon.
Tremaine
Hello everyone, I wish I had news but we still haven't seen our little Raf in the woods. So many kind souls have been up there calling for him throughout the day. Thank-you to every one of you. We are eternally grateful. Every inch of that wood has now been covered. We left smelly pilchard water out there tonight in the hope the smell might attract him. We also saw the same fat and healthy looking fox that we saw there last night so that's a good sign. Milbourne Lodge School was king enough to let us explore their gorgeous grounds, but still nothing. Every house on the border of the woods has a pamphlet - about 100 of them. We are starting to think our boy has moved on. So now we branch out to the forests around there - he certainly chose the best places to go missing and he is still keeping us fit as always! Come home now Raf Raf, we miss you.
Lin Iddon
Fingers crossed for this boy. Owners are doing a brilliant job x

I've just had a chat with Tremaine who is continuing to do really well. At the moment she has found the school gates open so is going to see if she can search the grounds there and let the staff/caretaker know that Rafiki has been in the area. Posters were put through the letterboxes of houses in the area yesterday. I'm sure Tremaine will tell us exactly which roads she has done them in and who else she has given them to.
So good to see that Rafiki is in the area again.
No way of telling if it was Rafiki in Addlestone but it isn't that far away and he has had plenty of time to get back to Esher since then.

Nic2204: I asked if Rafiki is likely to come to you. Tremaine says he is likely to be wary but may do if you crouch down and let him come over to you. However, first thing to do if you spot him is to call her please! Then try to keep him in the area seen.
Standard Doglost advice for trying to catch a scared/wary dog is " ... to turn your back on them and either sit on the floor, crouch down or turn and walk slowly away from them. Let them see you drop food on the floor as you walk away. Best not to call them unless in a whisper and with many dogs it’s best not to speak at all as it will make them run. If there is panic in your voice it will panic the dog and they will run. If they start to approach keep turned away from them, drop more food and walk away again. As you repeat this you may be able to walk a shorter distance so that the dog is coming nearer each time. Sometimes it can take many attempts over hours or days to build up enough confidence in the dog for them to approach you"
However, sometimes a dog will run again if you try to do this and to catch it. If so, then watch to see where it goes and see if you can keep it in the area until owner comes.
Of course, there are always dogs that prove us wrong who will come willing to a friendly, quietly spoken dog person!

It would also be worth giving posters to any food take away shops, restaurants, pubs etc and putting some up around places with rubbish bins in the area as Rafiki is likely to be looking for food now.
He may be going into gardens to eat food left out for foxes etc so hopefully someone else will spot him and call you.
With some luck his hunger may help get him out in the open more. Let's hope so!

Hi missalice. I assumed it meant shy of people thought he might be the sort of dog to come say hello to another dog. Millie also looks very similar to him so don't know if that would encourage him to come say hello to her. Have also been in contact with the owners. Where I am in new haw there are the vet lab fields across the road so may be worth informing them and also these fields stretch down to opposite Bourne valley garden centre. These fields near the garden centre have sheep in sometimes so there is a source of water and shelter for him. I haven't seen any of his posters round here, I'm at work today then straight out to training with Millie tonight but will try and get some out round there, or is it possible someone else local could get some out?

Does anyone know if Millbrook Animal Centre at Chobham have been contacted? That's the RSPCA for Woking and surrounding areas. I'm Oxfordshire so too far away but if I can help at all, emailing posters, phoning vets just let me know. Please remember that if someone finds a dog they don't necessarily the it to the nearest vets - they take it to a vets that they know and that could be anywhere.

Tremaine: Great to hear of a sighting at last. To be honest Addlestone is not that far away considering your lad has been lost for 10 days now, especially for a fit Springer. Good to see you are going there to search and will be getting posters out to the area .. I would suggest you get posters there and in surrounding areas along any possible routes he could have taken to get there.

Please make sure that the Dog Wardens in that area are made aware of Rafiki .. I think it would be the Woking Dog Wardens and I have sent you an email with their contact details.
I am going to ask Admin to send out email alerts to that area as well as bumping the page for the sighting. You may get some more news as more people will be looking at this page when it is nearer the top of the Doglost list.
Keep up the good work you are all doing.
Many thanks to all who are helping Rafiki's family (particularly missalice for your support and excellent advice) and to the kind person who called in the latest sighting.

Sighted in Adlestone. just had a call from a lady in Adlestone who said that she saw him on the road to the Tescos last Thursday in the rain looking lost and scared. If it's him that's really far away. She was pretty sure it was him.

I can't find the Facebook page??

Jack was hiding out only a couple of villages away. He was sighted every other day and was moving in a pattern. We had a fantastic group of helpers headed by one of our admin at Spaniel Aid and our local foster mum. The whole area was flooded with posters, every vet within a 25 mile radius was contacted, pet shops, posters emailed to them. We also found local Facebook groups were invaluable for spreading the word locally and not just lost dog sites. Jack was a very timid boy and unlikely to go to people. We even had a couple of bitches in season walk the area where he was sighted. He actually appeared close to them then turned round and trotted away! Survival instinct kicks in very soon, we think Jack was feeding off a dead deer. Traps were set and monitored from a distance, night cameras set up, it was the most nerve wracking 17 days for everyone. His Facebook group is still running We Found Jack - please take a look. Please bear in mind that it was a very rural area that Jack was lost in, unlike Esher. I truly hope you have some news soon. If you think he may have been stolen you must make him too hot to handle - that's how I found Charlie the Springer, he was stolen from his kennel in the next village to me. I didn't know his owners or the dog but felt I had to do something. It took me 9 long weeks and it was a poster in a pet shop that worked. He was stolen by travellers, sold on, and the new owners saw a poster in a pet shop! I cannot stress the value of posters and leaflets - every shop, garage, petrol station, lamp post, places where people walk dogs, bus shelters, schools - the list is endless. Good luck xx

Thank-you Esther. Missalice, your post gives me hope! How far away from home was he when you caught him? Was he OK? Hungry - of course - but had he at least had enough to eat?

I can't find the Facebook page to share x
Evabrick
Sorry I cannot help with search for RAFIKI but wish you all luck and keep positive.
Tremaine
HI all, I've created a Facebook page for Raf. Please help me share it to get it out into our community. WE are increasingly thinking that he has now been stolen as there has not been a single sighting in a week and we are covering a good 30km's between my husband and myself every day in the area. https://www.facebook.com/missingspringerspaniel

I followed a very interesting story of a dog called Jack on here recently. I'm not sure what sort of spaniel he was and I don't have any personal knowledge of spaniels, but he was newly re homed when he went missing and was subsequently reunited. It may be of no help whatsoever but you should find him in reunited dogs and be able to read his story and he also has a FB page now called We Found Jack. The people searching for him seemed very experienced with spaniels so there may just be something that could help you. I wish you good luck with your search, Rafi looks lovely.

My opinion from following all the posts on lost Springers over a number of years is that Springers go feral in a couple of weeks. Lost dogs tend to move in an anticlockwise direction and can be anywhere up to a couple miles out. I would poster as many places within a two mile radius just in case anyone has picked him up or seen him roaming. The local press might run an article which could raise awareness. They need water and food, food from bins behind shops or perhaps rabbits and water from streams, rivers, ponds and cattle troughs. With all the main roads around you perhaps a call to highways would help and a call to the railways. Sadly railways and roads kill most dogs when they are on the loose. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get your young man back again.

Hi all, we don't seem to be any closer to finding our little boy. Has anyone had any experience with springers that have gone missing? How long can they survive in a semi-rural area alone? How long does it take before they get brave enough to come out or how soon do they turn feral and shun humans completely? Any info specific to springers would be so helpful. We have truly done everything suggested and still there's no sign of Raf. We are sitting amongst moving boxes in the house simply heartbroken.

Good luck with your search x

I'm afraid Raf is still sleeping under the stars but we are keeping up our efforts. Have scented the golf course near us and near where he was spotted last week. Also found a bean shaped flattening in the undergrowth this morning that looks about the right size for him to have slept there. Have contacted dairy farms and delivery people. Now must just head off to our local sorting office today in East Molesey. Hoping today brings better news....

Someone mentioned on the Dog Lost Surrey Facebook page that a foreign microchip may not be recognised in this country. Go to Bruce Forsyth's Get Vets Scanning Appeal. Tell them about Rafiki's microchip details. Ask how to get these details recognised in the UK. They should be able to help you with this.

if it's possible he may be moving around early, would be a good idea to contact all dairy's who deliver in the area. The milkmen may have a chance of spotting him. Also talk to your local sorting office and ask them to display a poster, so all the postmen are aware. Similarly the dustmen! Really hope you get some good news soon. xx

Thanks for updating the page Johan and very interesting to hear the sort of life Rafiki has been living. It does help us with any advice we offer you although I think you already have most of it covered. Thank goodness your employers are understanding people.
I am sure he will stick to being out during the same sort of hours. However, I'm hoping he doesn't cover the same sort of mileage as you both have whilst he's out on his own!
As you have had a sighting and signs of his presence at the station I would keep checking there (where I think you have already left bedding/scent items) to see if he has returned or spent the night there. Remember even if he is not there one day, it does not mean he will not return on another.
Also please remember that wherever you go you are leaving a fresh scent trail for him .. he will be able to and may well follow this.

As Julie says, you are doing a great job. Just keep this up and you should get the result you deserve.

Hoping that you will get some news of a sighting soon.

Johan you are doing a wonderful job along with Tremaine - I am praying tomorrow brings some news of Rafiki - members of Dog Lost Surrey facebook page are all aware, helping where they can and keeping a good eye out for him. J. xx

Good evening everyone.

I am Rafiki's dad. For those who do not know, his name translates as "friend" in Swahili. Over the last three years he has been my constant companion when I run in the mornings (usually around 5am), ramble at night, photograph birds over the weekend or just relax with the whole family.

Todate I have kept my silence here as I have been preocupied mapping my new surroundings (having just relocated here from Asia) to get a sense of the area where Rafiki might choose to roam and go to ground during the day (more on this later). This has been done more or less entirely on foot and on my bicycle. My new employer has been fantastic in their understanding in this matter.

Rafiki is a fit dog used to the outdoors. He is usually out and about between 5am and 9am and then again from 7:30pm onward. I expect he will maintain this schedule unless he struggels to find food. This might also explain why there has been so few sightings so far. He is used to heat, having grown up in Singapore, so I do think that would slow him down to much.

Given that he and I used to run cross-country in the dark he is trained to avoid obstacles, including people and animals as much as possible. He is great at finding birds and small animals given his keen nose and ear. I have never let him hunt anything; which is one of my biggest concern given his current circumstances: Whereabouts unknown.

Todate I am aware of only two sigtings of him. Both last Thursday at the Esher Railway station. After this there was the big meet at Sandown Racecourse, which probably caused him to move on; frustrating, but completely natural. The following morning I had found signs of his passage near the station. Those were the last signs I have found over the last four days.

Having thoroughly explored the woods between Littleworth common road and Heathside rd I am satisfied there is water but not clear on his food options should he choose to rest there during the day.

The woods surrounding Old Cranleighan club is amore challenging when it comes to water. I was able to find only a bit. My big concern here is that he might bolt down the A307 (Portsmouth rd) towards the Thames.

And then there is the River Mole. I found the footpath off of Mill rd this afternoon and will begin exploring that corner over the coming days. Not to big an area, assuming he cannot cross to the other side of the river (any suggestions here will be appreciated).

For now it looks like access to the River Ember is harder, but I am open to thoughts from ramblers who know that part of Esher.

I am patiently waiting now for sightings confirming his presence in any particular area. Meanwhile you will see me around as I continue to look for signs of him and try to draw him out.

And finally, many thanks for your kind words and thoughts over the last couple of days.

Johan

Still no sight of our Raf but the DogLost advice email has been very helpful and we have now scented the area's around where he was spotted last week as well as putting up even more posters and scouting surrounding forests. Thanks everyone for your help and well wishes we are staying positive.

So sorry to see that Rafiki has not been found yet.
Thanks Abbalish.

People on Doglost Surrey have been helping Rafiki's owner Tremaine, who apparently only moved to the UK the weekend before Rafiki was lost so he is not familiar with the area.
".. unfortunately we only moved to the UK last weekend ... So he's had a 24hour flight behind him as well but also doesn't know the area ... We've put some clothing in spots around the woods with our scent on it and check on them daily"
Owner also says that Rafiki will be very shy and scared dog so call either tel number if you see him. Please DO NOT TRY TO CATCH him as he is likely to run further.
Tremaine has got posters out and most people in the area are aware that he is missing. Bedding or scent articles have been put out in areas he may go to.
There have been no sightings of Rafiki yet. I'm wondering if this maybe because it has been hot weather and he maybe resting up and coming out in the cooler hours to find food and water. Maybe check with local farms and riding stables to see if they have noticed anything being disturbed or barns slept in?
Tremaine: I have sent you our Doglost advice emails which should give you some other ideas to help find Rafiki.
Hoping you have some positive news soon. Last edited: 2015-08-09 14:56:53 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Sorry to see that RAFIKI is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (90424)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
