Have only just managed to post on here, but I was so HAPPY when I heard. You are an amazing team! Owners are always so grateful to the helpers, but far more than they can express in words. It is YOU the helpers, who keep these poor owners and dog sitters sane when their world has collapsed. Never under estimate what you do. Thank you.
Welcome home Shadow! Your family love you so much. x
Tracybb
Yay he's home, I kept looking on here and hoping, aww thank god he's home xx

Great News, Stay safe and close Shadow. Well done again to everyone on DL xx

When I remove posters I have put up, I leave a few in very specific places - paste over the phone numbers and with a black marker - write re-united, than you all for your help, across the top. It works wonders next time a dog is lost in our area, they inform DogLost - so many people have no clue how to get help.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Lovely to see Shadow in the blue. Fantastic job from all of you who helped find him.
Well done!

Fantastic news to wake up to....Well done team Shadow!
BaileyP
Just before I go to bed after a very eventful day - I would like to thank doglost, on behalf of myself, Elaine and Shadow's family for the help and advice given. Hazel was amazing and listened to me withering on on the phone when things weren't going too well and reassured me that we were doing everything correctly. I've supported doglost for a long time and by following the progress of other dogs, I gained enough information to help with this search. The map was one of the most useful tools we had as we could see where he was predicted to go.

Thank you all at doglost!!!!!

from BaileyP.........SHADOW IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!! After seven days and one hour he gave himself up at Fanshawe Swimming Pool in Ware. Elaine August and I have seen parts of Hertfordshire we didn't know existed. We've driven miles, printed out hundreds of posters, almost caused accidents leaping out of cars on bends and it's all been worthwhile. HE'S BACK safely with his family again. Many thanks to all the fantastic support from DOGLOST and in particular Hazel Ferguson who gave us so much good advice. We really appreciate your help. The map of his route will be on here soon - prepare to be amazed!!!!!Last edited: 2015-07-28 23:22:35

bloooooooooooming fantastic please refresh page for reunited pic. Can I just say BaileyP and Elaine have worked non stop. They have put their whole lives on hold to go out and poster, search, plot and miles and miles of walking. BaileyP has been amazing in making fab maps to work out routes and form triangles and was spot on where Shadow could be. They knew the clever boy was so close to the house today but lol he at least went in the correct sex changing rooms. I am so impressed with how they worked out how to do things but also took advice if anything could be added but they were doing it all anyway. You know as well the maps were also positive because of the amazing community spirit of people and helpers of Doglost that gave up their time to go out print and put posters up. thank you to all of you. BaileyP and Elaine go get large glass of vino and put your feet up. so so happy for you and the owners. WELCOME HOME SHADOW xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I've got my fingers and toes crossed and my dog and cats paws crossed too. Come on Shadow stay where u are and let your mummy and daddy take you home where you belong 🐶
BaileyP
Owners on their way over now. The dog on the 100 acre estate definitely wasn't Shadow.
Please don't go looking - we are all keeping away and allowing the owners and their other dog to find him.
Ginnys Mum
Good news he is still in the area. Come on Shadow - we all want you back home!

Tx Ladies both Clare and Jo now have the ladies number and can ring and update the sighting on doglost...tx both!
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
A lady has rung who has just sighted Shadow but cannot get hold of owners...I don't know the area so pointless me trying to understand where she means Messages left on contact number and I also left a message for helper Clare with the ladies number as she is in the area today looking...if anyone else is close by do call be for the lady who sighted Shadows number...tx
BaileyP
Clare - that's fantastic. St Margarets/Hoddesdon areas would be brilliant - we aren't sure if the dog from yesterday was him but we can't rule it out. x
Clare
I have a day's annual leave today and have some posters left and Hoddesdon isn't to far from me, (Cheshunt) so will head there this morning as I have Some posters left over, And I can head to shops in the town centre and see if they can put them in the windows
I will have a drive round too, I hope it was him as if it was he is heading back to where people are. :)
I hope it brings some comfort to his owners knowing we are trying to help x
BaileyP
On behalf of the owners Clare, Tracy and other poster putter-uppers THANK YOU!!!!

We had a call today from someone on the 100 acre estate saying a 'light-coloured, medium sized' dog was running around the estate loose. This was followed by a post on Spotted Pets saying the same. The estate is on the north end of Hoddesdon near St Margarets. We are trying to get an identification from the poster on Spotted Pets. It seems a long way for Shadow to travel from Wareside (particularly in such awful weather) but we can't rule it out.

If you live near this estate - could you put up some posters please and keep an eye out for this dog.

bumping due to Shadow being in the Hertfordshire Mercury x
Tracy
Great to see all the posters around, put some up in Hunsdon, Widford and some just outside Wareside. Did not get to the pubs there, The Chequers and White Hart if anyone else can do them or I will go back later in week if not done. Hope to hear of more sightings soon, drove around little roads but sadly nothing....:((
Clare
Put some posters up around much Hadham, ware and wareside
Givin in at petrol stations, cab office near, and near to bus stops and through housing estates. X
BaileyP
I've just phoned the Hertfordshire Mercury and spoke to a lady who has said they will put Shadow's details online and in the newspaper. They have a photo and the link to this page. Thank you Gaby! Here's the link to the online Mercury article.

Just printing some now and will put some up later today. Will pop into the pubs in Wareside as well if not already done and ask them to display a poster.
Clare
I printed some posters and will be out there early evening putting them up.
I cant imagine how the owners are feeling :(
I will pop some around local train stations too if they will allow them
BaileyP
WE counted up last night and SIXTY-EIGHT people have phoned and reported sightings since last Wednesday. Proof that the posters are working!!
BaileyP
Re the trap - apparently they must be manned 24/7 so we would need to be very certain he's nearby. No sighting for over 24 hours now. :(

I'm so sorry my old boy is poorly today so I have to work from home so can't print posters :( If someone has some spare I am happy to put some up round me (Vicarage Rd). Let me know and I can give my address for someone to put through door. If not will print some as soon as I can get into the office x
BaileyP
Sara - we don't know where to put a cage yet. He is moving on every day. If we could keep him in one area I have the offer of a cage trap but we would be grasping at straws at the moment. People trying to catch him should sit on the ground with their back to him and ignore him until he comes up to them. He was pursued yesterday which is why he didn't come to people he knows. Walking towards him will just drive him away. Last night he travelled a couple of miles from where he was seen yesterday. Last edited: 2015-07-26 23:07:34 by BaileyP
Sara
I have tracked these areas and can confirm that posters are rife. After speaking to local people who walk their dogs in these areas regularly he is around. I think that a disguised cage with food/shelter is a very good idea. Something in this weather he will be glad to see. Hoover contents from his home to release would help. It seems very unlikely that he us going to approach strangers when a family member had no joy.
Tracy
OK will do some postering tomorrow. I have a laminator so will laminate them. Can do some extras if anyone wants them. Got limited time this week but will do what I can. Oh so hope he is found soon....

North side of Ware would be fantastic please Rosieandmum. No harm in putting one at Hartham too although he moved on from there last Wednesday.
RosieandMum
Can get some up round north side of Ware (Vicarage estate/Wodson Park area) tomorrow afternoon. Am in Bengeo earlier in the day if any are needed there? Will be walking round Hartham/St Leonards church area - or is this already postered?
BaileyP
Kategeering - thank you, that would be appreciated!

Sheltie - we can't put down food yet as he has remained on the move for the past five days. Once we know that he is in one place we can start a feeding station.
sheltie
C'mon little man you're getting us all worried now. Wish I was closer and could come and help. He must be so hungry by now. Is anyone leaving food, maybe in a covered and disguised cage. At least if he was returning for food to the same place you might be in with a chance. Sorry if you've already done it - just wanting to help him!
Kategeering
Hi, I will try and print some tomorrow and can put up in Ware (Cozens Rd and Fanhams area). Loads of footpaths that head out Wareside way. I have 2 old and v frail boys at home to see to but will do my best to get a few put up for you over next day or two, and in roads round me as that end of town. Hoping for good news soon xLast edited: 2015-07-26 19:50:13 by Kategeering

UPDATE
The good news is that we had a sighting phoned in for 8am this morning! Another one due to the posters!!!! We are not saying exactly where he was spotted but we are still hopeful that he is following our track. This afternoon two of us have been out postering but we need more. The areas to cover are
Ware
Much Hadham
Widford
Wareside
Hunsdon
Until we get another sighting we can't eliminate any of those areas although out gut feeling now is Wareside/Ware. We've put up around 60 this afternoon but need more!

If you can help with printing out and putting up posters it would be VERY much appreciated. We are struggling to do this just the two of us! Handy hint: Put them into an upside down plastic file wallet if you have any. It keeps them dry!

Thank you Clare and Tracy - YES PLEASE!!!!!!

The chances of us spotting him are minimal but ALL the sightings have been phoned in due to posters in the area - THEY WORK but we need more please. xxxxxxxLast edited: 2015-07-26 18:32:21 by BaileyP
Clare
I can print posters of at work tomorrow and put them up in the evening. I don't know the area that well but have googled and it will only take me 15 minutes to get up there.
My Sheltie and I are rooting for you Shadow. X
Tracy
Can put some posters up Monday night, leave in Little Hadham don't really know the area that well around Dane End but happy to drive around there and stick some up? Did not see that many in Cold Chr Lane so can put some more there if you want? Def wont approach if seen as instructed. Do hope he is found soon, poor baby.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Well done all. BaileyP, I am glad you are out there, as always. I didn't know everything was completely in hand but Hazel has updated me, so great stuff. So what we need then, is for people and dogs to keep a good distance away from where this furbaby is, and if you see him, no eye contact, walk away as though you are going elsewhere and then go there! LOL Well done, everyone. Come on Shadow, back now. x
AlisonH
I have added If seen DO NOT CHASE to the poster that you can print off.
sheltielover
CAN EVERYBODY DOING POSTERS USE A THICK BLACK PEN AND WRITE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE POSTER ---DO NOT CHASE. This has also helped to prevent people trying to catch shelties.
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
As an additional comment, no strange dogs. Searchers with their pets could send him into the blue beyond. Only Shadow's dog friends should go near. The breed is generally very cautious over new dog faces.
sheltielover
There is two things to try when you see him, sit down with your back to him, lightly toss some very smelly food behind you, but do not turn around or call him, keep tossing food getting it nearer to you. The other thing that has worked in the past is to play the empathy trick, as he gets nearer - put your head in your hands and gently cry, most shelties will come to you to see what is troubling you - good luck. We are all praying Shadow is soon safely home with you.
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
BaileyP you are spot on over your approach in trying to catch this lovely boy. Got to be softly, softly and postering ideal. Shelties can get into a right old tiz waz and flight is how they respond. Most are suckers for a treat though. Good old smakos can work wonders.
Unknown
All advice followed and yes Bridget has done the triangle to work out where to be x
BaileyP
Kimmybear - thanks for the advice. We have a map and have plotted all the sightings - it's a definite triangle. We had sightings this morning but he was scared away by a family member bringing his dogs who Shadow doesn't like anyway! We are not going to post locations of sightings from now on as we don't want any search parties as he is far too nervous now.

If anyone wants to help then PLEASE print off the doglost poster and pin it up in the places suggested below. We can't personally get to all the places ourselves so help like that would be amazing. That would be 100 x more effective in getting him home than chasing after him. He won't be caught like that - it was proved twice today!!!!!

Can i thank everyone so much for the help they have been giving to get posters out and search. There have been developments and they are trying to start a feeding station for this reason they are keeping the area just them. They nearly got Shadow today , but someone and their dogs scared him away. Please they are literally working all hours day and night so if seen please just call in sights but leave them to coax Shadow back. xx
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Has anyone plotted the route from the sightings? Any triangle's forming? Also, concerns re rail and road and water. Can we ensure the authorities are aware of Shadow and have a number to call if seen. Yes, absolutely contact the farmers. Can everyone in the area get posters up please. Even a couple each in prominent places to ensure Shadow is well known. Give posters to the river folk and around the stations. You need to tell station staff, petrol stations, Waitrose, Bus station, Churches Beane river walk needs posters, Sainsburys, Hertford Theatre, Hartham Pool, on telegraph poles along country roads in eyeline of motorists as they pass. Can anyon ecall the local radio - I think they have helped in the past. You are doing great! Well done indeed! x
Tracy
Parked up in Cold Christmas Lane and took my dogs around some of the footpaths there and spoke to everyone I saw and asked them to contact Dog Lost if they see Shadow. Drove the length of Cold Christmas Lane slowly. Saw some posters but loads more needed. Good idea to put a small card version in all the local post offices as well. Worth calling in on all the farms too and checking in with farmers. Also milkmen who deliver early!! Will ask mine. If owner wants to get a load of posters printed I will laminate them free of charge, just let me know via this page and I will contact you on the number above. Don't give up, loads to try yet!! Come on Shadow, where are you!!
Clare
Shared Facebook and Twitter, I hope Shadow finds his way home

Hi Iv seen lots people sharing this on Facebook hopefully today's the day he's on his way home good idea to leave scented items food near to home . We had one missing for a week friend was looking after him he got out it took a week but everyone joined in like for shadow he will be home shortly I'm sure good luck I will be looking also.
Tracy
Is someone postering that area? Worth putting posters up in Standon. Any group searches or if I can help let me know!

SIGHTING - 8am today (Friday) Cold Christmas Lane near Thundridge, Ware. Ran off when approached. He has crossed over the 'Old' A10. New photo added.Last edited: 2015-07-24 18:19:40 by BaileyP
BaileyP
Rosiesmum - the last definite sighting was yesterday (Thursday) at midday on the Dane End road. There were reports of other sightings yesterday evening but as far as we know they were NOT Shadow - it was the lady whose house he escaped from searching for him with her own sheltie on a lead.

So it was Thursday 12pm that we know he was seen last. There have been no confirmed sightings of him since then. It is very wet here today so I imagine he is sheltering somewhere keeping dry.
RosieandMum
Can you confirm the last definite sighting as the posts yesterday afternoon/evening make slightly confusing reading now. Thanks x
RosieandMum
I have added the link to the Ware Online and Discover Hertford forums. x
BaileyP
We really need the posters to do their job now to get some more sightings. Terrible weather forecast for later so he will probably hide but at least he will get a drink. I'm going down to Ware in a minute and will stick up a few more around the area. Fingers crossed we get a call today.
Ginnys Mum
Have postered in Benington this morning and also on bridge between Whempstead and Dane End. Hope you get a sighting this morning. I keep driving round the area but it's difficult to know where to look now x
Sara
Disappointing evening last night, myself and others covered Sacombe, Sacombe Green, Whitehills Golf Course and Datchworth. All areas covered with posters. Fingers crossed for a sighting this morning ....
BaileyP
Thank you everyone who is helping. Shelties are notoriously difficult to catch once they get loose. Luckily though, they are incredibly resourceful and can survive for ages. Let's hope tomorrow brings more sightings. x
Ginnys Mum
Have driven through Dane End and Sacombe twice this evening. Will poster in Benington and Whempstead before work tomorrow and drop posters at farms too x

The sighting by the horse riders and the earlier one at 6pm were NOT Shadow. The lady who has lost him has a similar dog that she was walking while searching for Shadow. Contrary to popular belief - Shadow has NOT been found. Postering around the area tomorrow would be very much appreciated. Thanks xx
BaileyP
SIGHTING by horse riders this evening at around 7.30pm on Whitehills Golf Course which is just up the road from Dane End. I've walked my dog across the GC on a public footpath tonight and it's the ideal place for a dog to shelter and hide out. No sign of him. We desperately need help with postering in the area around Whitehills, Sacombe and Dane End etc. If anyone could spend half an hour postering around the course in the villages and farms nearby it would be very much appreciated. Thank you! xxLast edited: 2015-07-23 21:52:02 by BaileyP

Phone call earlier...sorry so many calls coming in....Shadow was sighted at 6pm Sacombe road..in the wooded area near the Orchard...
sheltielover
Come on now Shadow, We know that you are very clever in keeping hidden - and finding your way around - like all shelties - but it is time to get back home now. Please show yourself.
Sara
Been around Sacombe and Dane End too, nothing. Did speak to a few people walking their dogs and left poster on a dog walkers car. Lots of uncut fields in this area and from Watton to Datchworth and not much water. A sighting would be good 😔
BaileyP
Admin - can email alerts go out to SG12 and SG11 please. he was actually spotted in SG12 this lunchtime and SG11 isn't far away. Thanks x
BaileyP
I've been out postering the Sacombe area - difficult as not many places to stick in drawing pins!!!! Drove around for a couple of hours but no sign. Met his carer out looking too. We need a new sighting. very rural area and lots of uncut fields he could hide in now.

Have been to Bridget be farm as they cover a fair bit of Sacombe Green and left numbers.

Sighted yesterday at 1pm at The Wick...he appears to be covering some ground...
BaileyP
Sighting just phoned in. At about midday he was seen heading into a field going towards Sacombe Green. Heading away from his home. if there is anyone around there could they please go to Sacombe and keep a look out. I'm just off out again now. I visited the neighbours of the owners in Datchworth so they know he is missing.Last edited: 2015-07-23 13:21:30 by BaileyP

Recent post on 'spotted in Ware' FB page says he was sighted between Sacombe and Dane End this morning.
Tracybb
Really hope you find this little boy, I'm a sheltie owner. I thought about him when I woke up this morning, one of our previous shelties ran away from my grandparents home and came all the way home, I bet that's what he is trying to do, let's hope u find him today x
BaileyP
Great. Thanks Sara and Ginny's mum. I think you are notifying the neighbours Sara - is that right? Let's hope that today's the day he arrives at his destination.
Ginnys Mum
Heading towards Watton shortly. Will look out for him x
Sara
I'm off to Datchworth this morning travelling from Hertford. Will keep a look out and have printed some posters off for the way 😉
BaileyP
Morning! This morning the lady who he was staying with is going to take food to his home in Datchworth and leave an item of bedding there with a familiar scent on it to try to get him to hang around if he is indeed going home. We are also going to poster the area today. He's travelled about 5 miles point to point in 24 hours so seems pretty determined to be getting somewhere and each sighting has been a little further on the route home.
Wendy Godber
Reading this info, there is an option to start feeding stations and scenting from my opinion! Phoebe, what do you think? Wx
BaileyP
More sightings - Sacombe Road Bengeo at 9.30pm, outside Heath Mount School on the A602 near Watton at Stone at midnight. At this point he was only around 3 miles from his own home (he escaped from the home of a friend who was caring for him while the owners are away). It looks as though he is heading home to DATCHWORTH. Carer and I have been out looking but no sign tonight. Hopefully tomorrow will bring more sightings. Last edited: 2015-07-23 02:50:54 by BaileyP

Shadow has been seen today in Bengeo SG14 postcode outside St Leonard's Church at 7.30 am and by the school (Duncombe or Bengeo Primary School) at 5pm. There have been several sightings of him today. Please keep a look out and phone the mobile numbers. Please do not try to catch him as he is flighty and it will make him leave the area. We are trying to establish the main area that he is moving in so we know where to concentrate the search. Last edited: 2015-07-22 22:41:44 by BaileyP

Hi, I am SG13 and have covered search at Balls Park Wood which is my area. I can give a bit more info for local people. Shadow escaped last night from Foxholes Estate. His owners are away on hols and he is staying with family. He has been sighted by The Elms, Foxhole Estate last night and on the path out to the fields. He has also been spotted in Scott's Rd, Ware. Other possible sightings are The Warren which is linked up to Hartham which of course is where the river is though this is not confirmed. Any help or info, possible sightings much appreciated

Shadow will look for water first and having googled the area - the River Lee is the most likely place, he will then look for shade during the day and somewhere to rest at night, He will probable be seen early in the morning and when it gets cooler in the evening - looking for food. Please ensure the post person, paper delivery boys, milkmen etc - and anyone else who is about at these times - are aware that Shadow is lost .

Shadow was staying with his owner's friend when he slipped under the garden gate. There were several sightings of him last night around the FOXHOLES estate in Hertford. He was last seen near Ware. If you see him please phone one of the two mobile numbers as he can be very skittish and shelties are notoriously hard to catch once they escape.
