Just waiting for the time to come when Max is scanned and his owners get that important telephone call. There is one avenue I would take if my dog was missing. I deliver the Merseymart which is a free local paper in Liverpool, Merseyside. Each week there are lots of leaflets to be delivered with it. It may worth getting some small A5 leaflets printed and paying to get them delivered with what ever free local paper is delivered in the areas you want to target. Or approach a company that just do leaflet deliveries. If you could not go the direct route to the paper, then try and find out who actually delivers the paper etc and give them say ?5.00 for a large quantity, they get paid buttons from the supplier. Hope this helps and everyone is rooting for Max to come home he is lovely. If you need any further advice on the leaflet distribution just send me a p.m. Luv Jan (Liverpool) xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have there been any sightings of Max? I can't believe that he has just disappeared. If possible, try to get a poster into the homeopathic vets in East Hoathly - they are next to a saddlery shop too so you can kill two birds with one stone!Hoping some good news comes for Max's owners.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have emailed Kit Wilson Trust. It may be worth postering Abbots Wood as it is quite a busy place for dog walkers...someone may have seen him. Has anyone phoned Raystede? They would be first port of call i would guess if he was picked up. I understand that there is a traveller site in Laughton somewhere although i don't know exactly where - it may be an idea to get a couple of posters up in that area too - sods law that i did a couple of homechecks in Ringmer on Saturday so i was in that area! I didn't realise that he was missing until i got home! Have all the vets been notified? I would suggest covering vets in Ringmer, Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, Alfriston?, Hailsham, Horsebridge, Horam and perhaps outskirts of Brighton & Eastbourne too. I have everything crossed for Max's safe return.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry to see that Max is still missing. I go to an agility class in Alfriston on a Monday night - i will take a poster with me tomorrow. It might be worth trying Kit Wilson Trust and also Raystede. Really hoping that Max turns up safe and well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Although the description of him on the poster is good, maybe putting the breed name Beauceron as well would help, as this is what they are known as in this country. They are on the Imported Register and there are some exhibited at most of the champ shows.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fingers crossed Max turns up safe and sound. Met a couple of these fantastic dogs at Crufts and Westminster. Owning a big black and tan and unusual breed myself, I dread him ever going missing because most people think he's some kind of GSD/rottweiller/newfoundland/bernese mix - most people aren't up on common breeds, never mind one as rare as Max.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Max is a very handsome boy, but having 3 Dobes I'm biased towards black and tans! I have heard of Beaucerons, but not Bas Rouge. From the picture I would have guessed Dobe X maybe with a Lab or Rottie X Lab! Hope he's safely home with his family very soonxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for info Rigrunner-Sibes. I did do a web search and found some info on the breed, link on earlier post. LOL Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There have only been approx 130 registrations of Beauceron in the UK in the last 12 years, so they are very rare. The descriptions have been very good. They look like very heavy set Dobes, with very much the same expression, or they can look like rather big & rangey rotts. They are used as flock guarders and herders, so tend to bark to warn. They can be rather aloof, and are very much a one person type dog, so he is probably very frightened and worried out there alone. Their most distinctive feature is the double rear dew claws, although he only has this on one legLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This probably needs to go to Southern Counties. Too cross-eyed to start on another dog tonight, but will do it in the morning. How rare are we talking here ? Since he's a French hunting hound, I suppose I should know, but I don't !!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dee the mind boggles. As Max is a rare breed he may be described as a Doberman/Rottie cross if found in rescue etc!! LOL Jan xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad you got a good link when you googled for a pic Jan - i googled french sites not realising (thanks to the other mods!!!) that Bas Rouge means Red Stocking. As I don't speak or read French, you can imagine the pictures I found. much to the hilarity of the other moderators... Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Copied first part of description from the site I found: The Beauceron, a very recent import into the UK is from the region of La Beauce, around Paris where he has been used as a shepherding dog since the 1500s. He is also known as the Berger de Beauce and Bas Rouge or Red Stockings, a reference to his tan legs. LOL Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EMAIL FROM OWNER - A french hunting breed - a cross between a Dobermann and a Rottweiler. Black with tan points like dobermann. Amber coloured eyes. Medium type hair like Labrador but thicker and longer around the neck like a mane. Coat thin over under belly and ribs. Light beige hair up inside of back legs and under side of top of tail. Small red dot of hair above each eye. Hind left leg has two bald patches where black skin shows on lower joint, no hair from broken leg incident when a puppy. Second toe on this foot enlarged with broken nail. No dew claw on this leg. Right hind leg has a double dew claw typical of this breed. Approx 62kg - large, handsome dog. 4 years old. Wearing a brown leather collar with small metal studs & name tag. Microchipped. Suddenly ran away as if he saw something in the distance. He headed towards Glyndebourne and Lewes but could easily change direction for Hailsham or Eastbourne or anywhere. It was very wet and stormy after he left which perhaps disorientated him.
