An emaciated dog found wrapped in a curtain starved to death, the Scottish SPCA has said.

A walker discovered the female German Shepherd crossbreed in Mayne Woods in Elgin on Tuesday.

She was wrapped in a curtain and wearing a pink collar. A duvet was lying on the ground beside her.

Senior Scottish SPCA inspector Lesley Crockett said, “A post-mortem examination revealed this poor dog died of malnutrition. She was very underweight and would have needed vet attention.

“Her body was discovered in a very open part of the woods and we are keen to find out who left her there.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we’re appealing to anyone who recognises the description of the dog and can tell us who owned her, or anyone who spotted someone acting suspicious in the area, to get in contact with us.”
