Hi. Just an update (repeated for DogID = 71125). Thank you for everyone who contributed to Frankie's veterinary costs. We'll be paying the remainder next week.

Frankie is doing well, putting on weight, enjoying walks, getting lots of positive attention, has recovered fully from his neutering operation, and so on. He's bonding quite well with our other dog (black Lab, 13 years old). His infection had cleared before we brought him home more than 2 weeks ago, and his facial wounds are no longer that evident, apart from the site of the (tooth) puncture wound in his cheek area. His right eye, though, remains of some concern to us. The eyeball is sunken within its socket, and rotated out of its normal orientation. We'll be getting further advice from our local vet next week, but at present we are waiting for his facial muscles to continue to heal/bulk out further.

There has been a certain amount of press interest in Frankie's story, although not all of the reporting is entirely accurate. (He wasn't anxiety ridden when we first got him, but my running after him as he ran towards a nearby farmhouse (where there was a bitch in season) did not help ... clearly he had been chased at some stage, earlier in his life. His leg was not noticeably injured in his travels, although early photos at Kingston Veterinary Group Surgery in Sherborne did show blue bandaging of his leg so as to keep a drip in place)... Anyway, Frankie's got a home now. We'll try to recreate for him some of the positive experiences of being in the countryside, without the hazards to him of traffic, risky food sources, disease and the like.

We did wonder if we had done the right thing when we agreed to re-home Frankie at the beginning, after he had run off. Had we taken 'too much' on board? Since getting Frankie back home, he has more than proved to us what a 'great' dog he is. Now, he's part of the family.

Doglost, and the conscientiousness of many individuals, proved instrumental in us getting Frankie back. Thanks again.

James

The update we were all waiting for!
Although Frank and James were reunited at last I will wait till he is safely home before moving to the blue..
Frank now has his own account with the vet but as yet there is still no online donation for this. Vet details are on an earlier post if you would like to send a cheque with a note stating that it is for Frank.

James, yes a very remarkable dog ! It sounds like the vets have done an amazing job. I hope he recovers from all his problems and has a long and happy life with you.

I am qoing to post here what I've just posted for Lost Dog 71125:

Hi, all. Apologies again for my delay in posting here, but we were quite late getting back from the South West. And then I dropped my phone, but it is now working again.

Dog Lost 71125, now named 'Frank' or 'Frankie' (but known to others as 'Rex' or 'Sonny'/'Sunny'), is found, and is indeed Dog Found 73604.

Frank has made a remarkable progress in his recovery since my last update. The facial swelling has gone down quite a bit, but is still noticeable, and the wounds he suffered will take a while to heal. Frank's right eye is damaged, but will require further assessment to see whether its functionality is impaired. He is still receiving antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment but is off the intravenous drip (so he no longer wears a blue bandage on his leg). As he is now fit enough for an operation, he is to be microchipped and neutered.

Frank has been following his vet around inside the Surgery for the last couple of days or so. Indeed, we met him outside being taken for a walk by her. He feels more comfortable near people, after the care he has received from Kingston Vets staff, and and has reacted positively to other dogs he has met since he arrived at the Surgery.

We are very happy to be reunited with Frank, and will be taking him home with us on Thursday. Frank travelled from Oxfordshire to Dorset, via Wiltshire and Somerset, with an earlier excursion to West Berkshire. Quite a remarkable dog.

Thanks, again, to everyone who contributed to finding and caring for Frank.

Hi. Thanks for everyone asking about this dog and lost dog 71125. Over the past few days I have been in contact with Millie (who first reported seeing 73604), with Poochpal, with the West Dorset Dog Warden, and with the vet at Kingston Veterinary Group who is treating this dog.

Although I believe that this dog is our rescue dog, we will confirm this when we see the dog at the veterinary surgery. (I have enlargements of the photos, above). At the moment, this dog (73604) is still in poor (but stable, and slowly improving) condition, and his face is still very swollen. I will contact the vet again early next week, and visit when the dog's recovery has progressed a bit more. Keen as I am to see this dog, we believe this is the best course of action for now.

In the meantime, thank you for everyone who has contributed to searching for our dog, reported sightings, or have otherwise supported us. We'll post again on this website soon.

This has to be 71125 too much alike not to be has the owner been told and gone and checked?
Anne
Has anyone called James the owner of lost dog 71125 ?

Come on boy you can do it Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
Is he one of the two dogs that are missing?
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Several people have offered to donate to this boy's care. If it is missing dog 71125 he had not been with James long enough to have any insurance cover and the bill will probably be over £1,000 if he has to stay another week.
If you would like to donate then please do so direct to that practice, details below.

Poor boy xx is this 71125 xx
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Photos now uploaded, injuries now thought to have been caused by another animal, either a dog attack or maybe a badger. Infection is now his biggest problem, he will probably not be fit to leave the vet till the end of next week as he is now fighting septicemia. As he had been living rough and is underweight he has little reserves to help him fight this so needs to be c kept under close supervision.

Poor poor boy xxxxxxxxxx thank you for the update xxxx
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Unclear at the moment although he was found near the railway line. If he was struck by a train then he was very lucky to survive, also lucky to have been found and taken to the vet in time. The vet has reported that he has a very swollen head as well as grazes and scratches.
It is also unclear due to the earlier report of him having blood on his head when sighted in the Bruton area.

I'm praying that he is ok xxxx do we know the circumstances of how he got injured x

Update from the vet, still unsure of the outcome for this boy, he will be staying where he is for now as too poorly to be moved.
The dog warden will be visiting him this morning and will try to find out where his collar is as this could help identify him, she has all the details for 71125 and will look for the mark/scar on this boys leg.

Poor boy I hope he recovers we'll and gets back to his owner xxxxx

So sorry to get this news. Wishing him all the best and love and healing x
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
It is possible that this poor boy is now in a Sherborne vets. Reports from a dog warden that a lab cross had been found with serious injuries in the Sherborne area and they were trying to trace the owner. His description matches this one so I have contacted Millie who registered and also contacted James as it is possible that it could be 71125. Millie is away at the moment so not able to go and identify him, James will phone the vet tomorrow and ask for photos.
If it is 71125 then he has had such a difficult time, James was hoping to home him from a stray kennel in Derby but on arrival he escaped. Whether he has made his own way over 70 miles to Dorset during the last 2-3 months we shall never know. Fingers crossed for him now whoever he is.
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
I am still hiking out that way every day and no signs of this dog. I suspect he has moved on?
DogLostBobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex
Any further sightings? I keep walking out that way and no sign, not even any unusual signs that there is a feral animal other than the norm about. So frustrating, if we have a firm sighting we can act on it.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
I believe owners of both possible matches were contacted by the people who saw this dog/these dogs. The initial sighting 3-4 weeks ago was much more like Duke but he was only seen once so may have been straying and then caught. The one seen recently belongs to James who has posted below.
digbysmum
Oops, sorry Spindle - should have gone to Specsavers! Yes, should have read 66441 of course. Quite feasible that he could have travelled that distance since March. Fingers xd that lovely Duke is soon back home, safe and well xx
Spindle
Dukes number is 66441 - 70 miles north of Batcombe. Praps Dukes owner can be notified?
digbysmum
poochpal - the dog spotted in Glos does sound very much like Duke, 66411. The photo on his page seems to show he is wearing a fairly thick collar with a green tag. He has been missing since March though, but could have been out for several months. Do hope both therse dogs are soon caught. What a worry xxx

Another message this morning,

This is the message that I received yesterday. "It would appear that we now have two totally unconnected dogs but similar looking. Both are on Dogs lost and the owners have been contacted. There have been no posters, enquiries or similar for any lost dogs in this area and all local landowners and vets have been approached. From the condition of the dog spotted yesterday, which is now painfully thin, it would fit with the description on the website. We have been able to throw food to this dog and lured it a little closer with our own dogs. The new owner had only picked it up from the pound on the day it escaped at the end of June. This particular dog comes from Wiltshire and the earlier sighting of a fine cream lab exactly matches with a dog lost in Glos.
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
Definitely not Jessie, she is still being seen regularly in Bristol. Here is another post on Facebook from Labrador Rescue.

Hi everyone, please share this with your friends.

Spotted about a month ago a large, handsome, pale yellow, dog, Labrador. Possibly about 6. Wide head – gun dog type – a fine dog. Incredibly nervous, terrified of people, frantically running along Copplesbury Lane outside our house between Bruton and Batcombe. Could not lure it to food or make contact with it. There appeared to be a fairly thick collar on the dog, with a name tag plus what looked like some form of green tag. I contacted the local vets, police and dog warden but no one new of a lost lab. Today the same dog was once again spotted in an adjoining corn field, lying down with what appeared to be blood on his head. Now totally terrified and no response to whistle, call, or any human approach. Ran off into the fields and disappeared. This poor dog must have been running wild for over a month and is now in a bad state, please ask around. Hopefully he has come from somewhere local but I can find no evidence of any similar lost dog.

Or could it be Jessie 61050 ?

BA10 is a huge postcode area, I have covered as much of it as I can this morning. Please advise exact location this dog was last seen? Some people are aware of a dog and others have no idea there is one missing. There is a long coated cream coloured German Shepherd that lives in the area at Bruton and some people think it is that one that is being seen.

I have notified farmers etc that I know in the Kilmington area.

Thanks Widget's Farm we have a trap in Dorset that could be used.Last edited: 2014-08-15 14:01:35 by Bobble - Area Co-ordinator - Somerset & East Sussex

Hi, I've just spoken to the lady who has seen this dog (maybe ID 71125), and have offered the use of our dog trap. I've asked her and her friend to spend the next week laying out food each day in a quiet spot and I'll then go over and set it out. Hearing how nervous it is as I believe that trapping is the best option and any attempted catches may cause it to move on.
James
Please consider whether this dog might be the same as ID=71125, last confirmed as seen in the Faringdon, Oxfordshire SN7 area on 25 July. The lister now believes that her sighting of a dog in the BA10 / BA4 area (Bruton / Batcombe area of Somerset) yesterday evening more closely resembles our dog than a different missing dog seen earlier in that area. She also believes that dog ID=66441 (DUKE) is probably not the dog she saw yesterday.
