I am doing a lot of mail shots with updated posters of my own missing dog to vets, kennels & shelters around the country & will put posters of Doris in with them. If there are any updates on Doris, sightings or anything else relevant please let me know on this email so I can send them relevant information. calicojackgalleon@hotmail.com ~ sooeyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks, Sooey. You are quite right, especially as there have been no local sightings of Doris at all. The next stage has to be broadening out the mailing/emailing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Doris's mum. I know Nik is doing lots of mailshots to various places. Has anyone done vets, kennels & shelters? Not just local but everywhere. Anyone who pays a lot of money for a dog will want to look after them & register them at their local vets. They might also put them in kennels when they go on holiday. Could be anywhere in the country, & she is very distintive looking, so mailshot all of them, thats what we are doing with our own little lost one :o) It certainly cant do any harm to mail them all, & you never know you might get one to just the right place at the right time. - sooey xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Although there have been no sightings of Doris, Catherine has been busy working on advice given to her by DogLost. We are still not yet abandoning the idea that Doris is still the rural areas surrounding Winchester and Basingstoke.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doris mum, please take heart from the fact that dogs have turned up who have been missing for longer than Doris. Keep working with Nik on this, keep checking back with pounds etc, and I hope you get some feedback before long. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm sorry you still haven't heard anything yet, Catherine. I will call you later to discuss what else can be done.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Feeling very glum today.Spent hours driving around last week putting up leaflets and very dissapointed when the local paper didnt put our story in this week, thanks Hampshire Chronicle! Not 1 call or any sort of communication.May be she is really dead although i feel that she isnt.Have put reward money up drastically so maybe this might rattle someone.Wonder if we will ever have any communication about her?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Doris is still in the area, I am hoping the mail shot may ellicit some previous sightings. Right now, we don't really know whether Doris is roaming the area or as the owner suspects, was picked up on the night of her disappearance.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doris' mum, I am dropping my dads dog back to him today after having her for the weekend and will give him some leaflets to give out to other dog walkers and shops etc. He is 76 and his dog is 16 so they don't get around as much as they used to but he will cover central winchester as best he can. Winchester City Council departments emailed including refuse and community wardens. However, I would suggest a visit to the refuse depot with posters for each crew. As Doris went missing on a Bank Holiday, half term may attract people back to the village. A visit to the Northbrook Arms to chat to people would be a good idea. particularly as it appears to be a dog-friendly pub.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

make friends with the local paper boys and get them to deliver flyers. We took posters of our dog to the local sorting offices and the posties were great. We also checked outlying farms. Good luck xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi doris's mum, keep those posters going and not just in your area do as many as possible, when my dog went missing we covered the nearest 4 villages, and we had a phone call from the furthest one from someone that worked in that village, but she had not seen my dog in that village, she had seen my dog on the journey through the others. its was not until she had stopped her car and saw one of my posters that she realised it was my missing dog. also don't forget taxi firms in the area, as they travel all over all the time. good luck mandyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

From what Doris' Mum has told me, Doris definately has PBGV traits so we are looking for a serious scent hound. But since I have never met a person whose heart doesn't melt when they see a PBGV, we mustn't ignore the fact that she could lying in front of someone's hearth. Today's target is the schools in order to reach them before half term.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I keep looking at Doris's picture, she is just so beautiful, how could you resist a face like that? To Doris's Mum, good luck in getting her back, I'm sure you will now, I'm just sorry I live so far away, so no help there xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Doris' mum. I'm some way away in Hythe, but will print posters for all 3 branches of Seadown Vets today - our notice board is starting to look like an advert for Doglost, but if it only gets one home....I've got Fauves, so if the scenthound part of her is to the fore, she may well have gone some distance. Thinking of you. SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you all so much for such nice and comforting messages about our Doris. She is such a special girl and we miss her so much.Every thing we can do is being done to find her and i hope that with our new posters if anyone has her, perhaps not even knowing that she really belongs to us,that we will get her home soon.I'll keep you all posted with any developments as they happen. Many thanks again to you all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have now had a chance to speak to Doris's owner Catherine. Doris went missing at about 9pm on Bank holiday Monday from East Stratton Farm, about 9 miles north of Winchester. She ran off with a spaniel who returned the following morning in a distressed state. Catherine believes that Doris was stolen. She has notified all the normal organisations and I have advised her on a few things. Catherine is now going to register and post on the site, although she says she's not very computer literate. She also thanks those who have been in contact.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad this photo has finally arrived. I'll send the poster over to BGV rescue. You can absolutely see both breeds in her. The markings and hair are PBGV and the colour and snout bearded colliie !!! She's pretty much what I expected, although I know nothing about the personality of bearded collies. Can anyone help here ?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

First cross I've ever come across. I'll inform the BGV club and rescue. Faces of both breeds are very similar and PGBVs are often mistaken for Bearded Collies, so Doris will probably look much like a b&w PBGV.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
