Can't believe this beautiful boy hasn't been found yet. No news of the dog being walked near Edmond Castle?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do hope this is a good lead to getting Marvin back it sounds promising.I suppose you could describe him as a Gordon Setter. Stay safe lovely boy until you are back home. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to owner a couple of days ago. Unfortunately there is still no sign of Marvin, though they have had people ringing with possible sightings. So far, none of these have been Marvin. They are currently looking into a sighting of a dog that looks like a Gordon Setter but is black and white in colour and being walked by an older lady near Edmond Castle. Fingers crossed and when I hear more I will post. Stay safe Marvin xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So surprised to see this lovely dog is not back yet. Surely the two in the camper who picked him up can see he is well cared for and belongs to somebody. Some things really astound me. Especially if you say the couple were in their 60s. Does not say much for my generation. Stay safe lovely boy.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sister back at work after her holidays. She works in Brampton area and is wanting some posters from me. Thanks JH - Nu-Pets and Bank Street were going to be my next stop if I could have got into town. Was at Borderland on Durranhill today for sheep mix and they have put a poster on their board for us. That will target a part of the local farming community.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also emailed Marven's details to freinds in Scotland, they have a lot of 'dog people' contacts around cumbria & futher afield & will forward Marven's poster.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just been to Asda in Carlisle and they have kindly put a poster in the main entrance for us - well, they do get alot of different people in! And I mean alot!! Rosshound, thanks for your suggestion. The owners have already been in touch with local firms that hire out campers and have emailed magazines and clubs that are involved with motorhomes. As I can't do alot of walking at the minute due to the op I have just had, I am afraid that I am unable to do more than I am. I have just started driving again but can't keep jumping in and out of car. I just take posters with me wherever I go so that I can get them out there and let people know. Will do some searches on the internet tomorrow for more ideas when I have a clear head. Come on Marvin, we want you home xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What about postering all the local caravan/camping sites? Also cafes, pubs, local tourist attractions? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My geography is appalling, but how about e-mailing local caravanning associations to see if they can contact their members? For example, there is one for North Cumbria, www.nc-da.co.uk. This is just after a really quick search, as I really have to get ready to go to work now! All the very best. SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Taken poster to ringcraft tonight and they all knew Marvin as he used to go the same class. I really wish there was some more news. Whoever has this lovely boy, don't you realise how much it hurts thew owners when you don't bring him forward. You can tell by his condition that he has been very well looked after and was not neglected. Stay safe Marvin, we won't give up till we find you xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poster, poster, poster! If the people in the campervan were local he must surely be seen by someone - you can't keep a dog the size of a LM hidden for long!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to owner again. Marvin was taken by a man and a woman in a camper van from the layby on the brampton bypass close to the turning to Alston. They travelled towards Carlisle with the dog. Thought to be local. Munsterlander rescue, RSPCA and Animal Refuge at Wetheral have been informed. CFM Radio kindly mentioned him on air and Border TV will hopefully be mentioning him on the news. Understandably the owners are having a really hard time at the moment and we need to find this dog. Stay safe Marvin until we find you safe and sound xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tried to contact owner again but not in. Need to establish which direction the camper was going. Was it going towards Newcastle and Hadrian's wall country or towards Carlisle. If going towards Carlisle it could have gone through town on route to the lake district (3/4hr away from Carlisle) or south on the motorway towards Penrith, south lakes etc, or even northbound to Scotland. Vets in Longtown have a poster up and Blendbetter Dog foods do too. Going to ringcraft on wednesday so will take a poster with me. (Hopefully, we will not need it!) Owl - I will ring caravan parks now. Only 1 or 2 close to area he was picked up but i will ring them now. I wikll talk to owner later and report back with any new details. Stay safe Marven xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Cumbrian Lass:
I have contacted and emailed friends who live in the area, and would suggest the owners contact Animal Concern Cumbria North Lakes Branch, as well as The Animal Refuge at wetherall. As has already been said, not many people will know of his breed and could quite easily confuse him as a collie cross. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am wondering if these women have been on hols and staying overnight in their camper. Mollymops, has anyone checked the camping/caravanning sites in the area? It could be that they have hung on to him thinking that the police might send him somewhere he could be pts, and intend to keep him until they can see him safely home. If they are on hols they won't have internet access unless they go to a library or cafe, and they may not be net-aware people. Dog thieves certainly don't all look rough and dodgy, some of them appear quite respectable, but 2 well-spoken mature ladies in an expensive campervan certainly doesn't fit anything we have seen before! Presumably owner has alerted breed rescue? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thats a good point lankeela. They could even be listed as a Setter X as I used to know one at work & to me they do a look a bit Setter-ish.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Although Marven is an unusual breed, most people (and especially the police) will not have even heard of the breed, and he will probably be reported as a Collie Cross, or Springer Cross, so do please check any reports of dogs found or handed in. I once had to help find a GSD puppy and the police told me all they had handed in was a little brown mongrel. Sure enough, it was the GSD puppy! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Luck is if the two women are about that age they will have the sense and do the right thing and inform the authorities. Marven is not a very well known breed so should help to identify him if he is reported. Stay safe lovely boy. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just rang the owner and spoken to him regarding Marven. They actually live very close to me. It seems the two women in the camper van said that they were going to drop him at the local police station but it doesn't seem to be the case. Owner has been in touch with Brampton and Penrith police stations, the local animal refuge at Wetheral and is putting a picture in the local paper. I am actually recovering from a knee operation so unable to do much physically but will ring people I know in Brampton etc. Please make him too hot to handle. There are hardly any Munsterlanders in this area so he will be so distinctive. In fact he will probably be the only one in the area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A lovely picture of Marven stacked, takes a lot of hard work to make a dog look as handome as he is. However, it's awful for your dog to be missing whatever it's breeding. Hope there is some good news about him soon. Probably worth contacting the breed clubsxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
