What a happy ending! I have a Romanian street dog myself and so far in 4 months he's taken off 5 times and is now on a 100ft lead when we're out.His recall has been really good but then he gets a bug in his brain and he's off! They're just so used to being independent and roaming where they want and don't feel the same fear 'normal' dogs do when they're away from their owners or in a strange place. Twice when he's gone off he's come back to the front door and scratched to come in while I'm out looking for him, which is apparently how they live in Romania. The owners let them out in the morning and back in at night unless they get killed, attacked or caught by the dog catchers.

Sweetpea is still on the streets of Middlesbrough, covering quite a large area. Team Sweetpea continue to feed her and monitor her most nights and early hours of the morning. She is still sometimes disappearing for 3/4 days or more then up she pops again on her usual routes. She is a very wise streetdog, but we still need to get her off the streets asap, just wish she would make that one little mistake so we can get her home safe.
She was seen again last night.

Stay safe Sweetpea, I worry about you so much when not seen for a few days, come on girl will you please get yourself in that trap when it is set!!

Can we have her page bumped please due to sightings. We don't get that many reported sightings coming in now.Last edited: 2015-01-18 15:02:51 by BBKM

How fantastic that Sweetpea is still surviving.Just to add my comments on how I admire you all trying to catch her.If only she could understand that she has a loving family.xxxx

We continue to watch and try to trap Sweetpea. She is feeding and looks well, hangs about the trap area often but just won't take the bait when the trap is set. We will get her..... and it would be bloody fantastic if she is home safe for Christmas.

Bazil, thank you for keeping us updated. I'm so thankful that Sweetpea is ok, although obviously I would be haapier if she was home in the warm with you. I wish you all the very best of luck and hope that Sweetpea will soon make that move into the trap and you will be reunited xx
allimac
ruddy fireworks! Hope she is still in the area. You have worked so hard to get her. It is slightly crazy to think that a dog can run free in a built up area for so long in this day and age. Really hope your patience pays off soon. xx
BBKM
Sweetpea is still being sighted although it is usually every few days now. We continue to monitor the trap area and Sweet's is taking food occaisionally from a feed station. We were so worried about her last night, just hoping and praying she has got used to the firework noises over the past few weeks and she kept herself safe and warm in one of her dens and hopefully in a nice quiet area (if that was possible last night).

Gutted we have not got her home yet, stay safe Sweet's xxLast edited: 2014-11-06 13:25:02 by BBKM

We continue to watch Sweetpea on her travels around Middlesbrough. She still visits the trap area but not every day. Sightings still get reported to her owner. We were hoping to have her home safe by now. She is a very clever wise dog but hopefully we prove we are more clever than her.

Stay safe Sweetpea x
allimac
amazing she is still out there. Hope she doesn't run scared of the fireworks. Wishing you all the best of luck! xxx

Everything crossed here. Give her a little time and I am sure she will walk into that trap and them she will be home.

Sorry havent been on doglost for a while to update... Sweetpea is still in the Middlesbrough area and we are monitoring her travels. She continues to come for food some nights at feed station... we were really hoping to have Sweetpea trapped by now... but sadly she seems to have been spooked by someone or something and will not go in the trap at the moment. Stay safe Sweetpea x
Willow Dood
Fingers and toes crossed that you are successful and Sweetpea is home soon. Such dedication.....
allimac
very impressed with your efforts and patience! Wishing you a happy ending very soon. xxx
BBKM
Sorry we haven't been on for a while to update. Team Sweetpea are out every night watching and waiting for her to go in the trap when it is set. She does go in and has taken food from the trap when its not set. On the nights it is set, Sweetpea seems to go off in a different direction or can pass by it without a glimpse. This last week the odds seem to have been against us, noisy traffic, criminals on the loose (police everywhere) along with other happenings. Shifts have been organised for Sweet's watch, they usually end 4/5/6am.She is seen many times around Middlesbrough throughout the night by many of us at different locations.

We will carry on until we have this girl home safe. Her owner is one hell of a strong, switched on, dedicated person who has been out there nearly every night since Sweet's went missing. Team Sweetpea are fantastic too. A group of local people who with Trevor and myself have spent 100's of hours watching out for this girl. It can be exhausting at times.

We haven't got Sweetpea home yet but we will get her home, it is only a matter of time. She keep's herself safe and has food and water. She knows where it is when she needs it.

Fingers crossed we have her in the blue very soon xx

Now that the owner is able to get so near, I don't know if this might help: I very easily and quickly clicker trained a feral cat to come and eventually to be handled. To start with I could only get within about 5 metres before he hissed, spat and then bolted. I just used a very soft clicker, clicked and rolled a treat towards him. He snatched it and ran but soon was coming back for more and then it was simply a case of clicking and rewarding every step he took towards me, whilst appearing not to look straight at him. At the end of each session I left a plate of food and walked away. Within a week he would walk over my feet.
( we never found an owner and he now rules the household!!).
BBKM
Sweetpea is still being sighted nearly every day... latest was last night at about 11.30pm in Middlesbrough, her owner was on 'Sweet's Watch' and she passed by her, very close.

I have added a link to a short video of her caught on the 'Secret, hidden camera' :-)You may have to be logged into Facebook to watch it.... sorry if you are not on FB. Copy and paste link into browser box.

We will get her sometime soon, I am sure. All of her owners hard work, long hours, total dedication will pay off and get her girl home safe very soon.

Enjoy! Ignore the date, the camera's time and date were set wrong on this footage.

Sweetpea has been sighted several times on Monday and Wednesday this week. She has been seen eating some food, not from a feed station just scraps on the ground. Her owner has been out every day and is doing all the right things and managed to follow her for a while. This is giving us some idea to what her route is :-)

Many, many hours being spent watching and searching by her owner and family, and I have done a few hours too, and possibly seen her at about 4am Tues. Eyes were tired by that time :-(

Stay safe Sweetpea, hoping its not too long before we have you home safe xxLast edited: 2014-08-14 15:03:47 by BBKM

Sweetpea has started to be sighted again over the past few days in the Billingham area. We are so happy about this. She looks well and is moving about quite often. Fingers crossed we can set a new feed station up and hopefully get the trap set soon too. We have fabulous support from the members of her Facebook group. Her owner has been fantastic, out every day and night and doing everything possible to help get her girl back home where she belongs. Emma and Harrison have heavily postered all areas and we all know how important posters are.

I have copied this request/appeal below that we have posted on her page.

***TRAPPER TEAM***
Great news everyone that Sweetpea is being sighted again... can we ask for everyone to stay away from sighting areas please, we just want her to get back into a routine and with regular sightings we can think about a new feeding station and setting the trap. This will not be happening tonight and no way will anyone catch her, as Emma has just said she is so fast and we DO NOT WANT HER CHASED or SCARED... this will put her life in danger and maybe force her to go to ground again. Keep the lovely positive comments coming, your support is very much needed and appreciated. Thank you xx

Stay safe little Sweetpea... xxx

You may well have been told this, but just in case. Plot her sightings on a map and it will form a triangle. This will be her route. With dates and timings, you should be able to anticipate where she will be and get there ahead of her. Wishing you good luck and success in getting her home soon.

"Ok so we have just called it a night and headed home I'm not posting where she was seen as it's not my place to say but what I will say is she was about 1 metre away from my car and she is looking well considering what she is going through seems to be holding her weight and her eyes are still bright and by god she's fast!! Thanks Jumanji for bump.

There is a Stakeout planned tonight from 10pm with helpers paired up for safety who are going to sit at many of the sightings locations. They have been given advice what to do and not to do and also advice on keeping themselves safe.

Team Sweetpea think we have a good idea of her route now and hopefully tonight will confirm this. We can then start to plan where to feed her then trap her.

Sweetpea's last sighting was approx. 10/10.30pm Belasis Ave/Station Road.

Good luck to all of you helping to find Sweetpea and getting her home safe x

Thought i would share another tip which worked for me with a dog who couldnt be caught after 2 weeks living rough - stuff mashed sardines in oil into the foot of a pair of nylon tights - rub around the trap frame -dip the tights into a bowl of hot water and drag a trail up to the door of the trap. I also used fresh cooked chicken breasts coated in garlic paste inside the trap. so hope she is caught soon Last edited: 2014-06-19 23:38:10 by terrierlady

Fantastic news that she is so near home, but also must be frustrating. If you have side entrance could it be left open when she is first sighted close by. Also have sum smelly food, liver casserole is great, heat up in microwave when sighted, put in side way, turn all lights off, hopefully hunger will take over. I'm sure you've tried all this already but I've used this b4 myself to catch a difficult dog.forgot to say make sure you have somebody stealth like to close gate

Sweetpea has been sighted for the past 3 days, staying in her home area. A food trail and food were put down and we think she may have ate some of the food because last night (Wed) at about 11pm she was 3 doors away from her home. She ran to the town area and was sighted on Cotswold Crescent/Braid Crescent 5 mins later. We rushed to that sighting and talked to the lady who had seen her. We drove in the direction Sweetpea ran and after about another 5/10 mins she run out in front of Alison (her owner) and me at 11.20pm on Brendon Crescent. I followed her through a walkway across a field that led to Marsh House Ave or Easby Road but lost sight of her. I don't know which direction she went from there.
She was sighted again this morning near her home. Lets hope she keeps coming back and eventually walks through her home door.
She is very fast and unless she is cornered somewhere, I think this girl is definitely going to have to be caught in a trap.

Stay safe Sweetpea x

Can we have her page bumped please?Last edited: 2014-06-19 14:55:06 by BBKM

Good bit of publicity in The Northern Echo today, sadly it doesn't stress the need for people NOT TO CHASE HER.

Come on Sweetpea darling, time to go home to Mum xxxx

Me too echoing what Jumanji has commented below... PLEASE DO NOT CHASE SWEETPEA....

If anyone sees her PLEASE CALL THE NUMBERS ABOVE ASAP TO REPORT THE SIGHTING.... IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY KEEP HER IN YOUR SIGHT, JUST SIT DOWN LOW AND WATCH HER, WATCH THE DIRECTION SHE HEADS IN.

We need to keep this very nervous girl safe.
Gino
Double ditto on what has been said below...
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
I have seen posts on Facebook that people have been CHASING Sweetpea !!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CHASE AFTER HER AT ALL as you will just terrify her and make her bolt away putting her in great danger of being involved in an RTA. Also it is no good calling her name as she will not respond to it and this again will just sound threatening to her .
If you see her CALL HER OWNERS PLEASE ! Last edited: 2014-06-10 10:35:11 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

Thanks Bazil. I know she appreciated that call. Dog warden hasn't been much help and wouldn't trap. That's what we are looking at at the moment but she is doing a large triangle at the moment, she has however been back near home at one point.

So hope you will soon have her back x

Jumanji so glad you can help with a trap and just wish I was nearer xLast edited: 2014-06-09 16:14:40 by Seeks
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Have spoken with Alison and discussed setting up a feeding station and scenting procedures with her. At the moment they are not quite ready to use a trap but by following a feeding pattern and scenting hopefully Sweetpea will stay in one area and then a trap can be used. She has been venturing quite near to her home and I think she may be trying to find her way back home so again I have suggested scenting techniques to lure her back home .
Alison will keep me updated and I can help her with a trap . XLast edited: 2014-06-09 15:53:17 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

POST ON FACEBOOK ABOUT SWEETPEA BEING HIT IS NOT TRUE/PERSON MISTAKEN, please pass this on to the author. She was moving too quickly when sighted this morning and did not look injured so it may have been a close call but she did not look to be injured when the owners saw her this morning. She is still missing at this time.
TheFamilyFrench
P.S. no response from Dog Warden since Friday, she will call her again on Monday if still missing
