Any news from owner Patsy? Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Patsy
Posters up at Cranleigh Showground for today's Celia Cross Big Charity Sale and parade of Greyhounds and lurchers. Also poster up for horse show at Pachesham today. Had long talk on the phone with Pip's owner the other day. As Pip is not chipped, we feel she could end up anywhere and we would not know. So we should widen the search. Have emailed you Admin - could we change Pip's poster to 'Still Missing' and email to helpers in Sussex and Hampshire as well? Pip's owner's job with National Trust takes her all over the country, so she is still spreading the word to all wardens etc at NT properties. Also has Pip's poster on her car - but no response at all to date. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

None to date Sarah. Helpers still postering the area and around. Not a single sighting though. I think Patsy has a few ideas to try, but will let her post on it. Hope for something soon. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message fromPatsy: Pip's owner just called and left message. she has been driving round Abinger area and actually met a black greyhound with white bib running down the road. Unfortunately, it is NOT Pip. Probably the dog reported on Thursday night. She tried to catch it but failed to do so. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EXCITING NEWS!! Have just come in to find phone message from owner - possible sighting towards Abinger Common! A man rang who had seen Pip's poster at the Pub (not sure which - Coldharbour or Wotton?). He says he saw a black greyhound yesterday,Thursday, running off towards Abinger Common. so that's direction we need to poster. We already have quite a few posters up there - but need to concentrate all efforts that direction. Will alert the mountain bikers tonight - tomorrow is Sat., so that's great as they are all out biking over the weekend. Just re-listened to phone message. The man who reported seeing Pip saw her by his garden in Abinger Lane. This links Raikes Lane to Abinger Common by the Abinger Hatch pub Dee - have advised owner to leave 'scented' clothing in area of sighting to lure Pip. Any other suggstions would be great. Many thanks. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from Patsy: Well, nothing exciting to report yet I'm afraid. . . . . Pip's owner unable to meet up with me this morning as had to go to a meeting. Also, she hadn't yet heard back from man who thinks he spotted Pip on Thursday. However, I went out postering in Abinger Common area anyway. So, have now postered at The Volunteer pub at Sutton Abinger and Abinger Hatch pub, met very helpful dog walking people in the village who took posters and showed interest, also girl on horse who took poster for her livery yard tackroom. Have postered all around Abinger area, Raikes Lane, village playground, in Raikes Farm, Abinger Lane etc. Also Holmbury St Mary in main dog-walking car park by village hall, Peaslake village shop (where the mountain bikers all seem to meet up), Kingfisher Farm shop, outside farrier at Abinger Hammer and by village hall, and put poster in at Brelades vet at Gomshall. (25 posters in all, which, together with existing ones, makes pretty good coverage for area). Will wait to hear from owner now - man who may have seen Pip has my number too. Fingers crossed! Px (Put up quite a few Jasper posters at the same time). Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from Jan: Patsy I think you and I have been following each other round the area for the last few hours ! I actually met up with the owner of Pip, she greeted me as I was putting up yet another poster, assuming I was you ! Had to confess that I am only an ordinary human being not the supercharged Ms. P. So much woodland around there, needle and haystack spring to mind ! But to have these sightings has to be encouraging and there are so many posters now for both Pip and Jasper, so many people aware....will try and get back there again over the next few days. Still no news of Pip . . . . Was at Cranleigh show yesterday and handed out lots of posters to local exhibitors. Had one of my dogs with me and anyone who stopped to talk to him was quizzed about where they lived and given a poster if local to Leith Hill area. (It helps having a friendly mongrel with you!). Good email response from mountain bikers this morning - no sightings, but all v. enthusiastic. Seems there were masses of them out in Surrey Hills last weekend - next weekend too - and have circulated info on Pip (and Jasper) to other biking sites. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ADMIN - can you tell us what organisations you have emailed please. No mention of Guildford dog warden etc. then we won't inundate them and 'p' them off. Ta. Also, maybe start thinking about the Sussex border of Surrey? Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This evening, put posters though letterboxes of mountain bike shops in Dorking and Westcott (also Jasper posters). When I got home, found nice message from Pip's owners. She's had look at the website and is 'overwhelmed and touched' by all our efforts and wants to thank everyone for helping in her search for Pip. Apparently, the library picture on the poster gives a pretty good impression of what Pip looks like, but, if she does find a photo of her, she will forward it on to us. Owner has not yet told her vet that Pip is missing (although thinks a friend may have done so on her behalf, but is not sure). So . . . . anyone passing a local vet, please drop a poster in. Jan, that's brilliant! Should catch all the NT walkers and ramblers at the weekend. When I lost my dog in that area, the mountain bikers were a great help. Will try to get poster into bike shops in Dorking and Westcott and email their websites. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just come back from Leith Hill, wonderful news about the Rangers children helping Patsy ! I have been thinking all the way home even if I'd had dozens more posters I still would feel I hadn't covered the area ! Worked my way up to the Tower put up loads of posters on paths, at the picnic area at the top, right up near the Tower (where people will hopefully see them while they queue for teas etc.) Asked my sister, who is serving the teas etc. to drop it into conversations with customers whenever possible. Put up 'Jasper' as well. Came back down a different path postering again, and just hoping I might bump into Pip ! Certainly a paradise of rabbits I am quite suprised I made it back with both my dogs ! It would seem very likely that she is still in that area I would have thought plenty of 'supplies' though water is a worry. Also postered some of the car parks around there that didn't have posters already. So many car parks in those woods ! I was at Holmwood Common yesterday so put posters there and for Jasper. I see another KT on site ! May be phoning the Estate Agent later. I didn't think we were very local to Weybridge !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from PatsyB: Have emailed Pip's poster to James Storrar, Head Ranger for Surrey Wildlife Trust, who manage the woodland for the Wotton Estate and surrounding areas. He lives near Pip's owner. He's been extremely helpful and is sending his children out to put up posters in all Nat.Trust/Surrey Wildlife Trust car parks in Leith Hill area. Also said that there is a controlled deer cull going on at the moment, so will also ask those involved to keep a look out for her. Have also registered Pip as missing with RSPCA Godstone, who will circulate her details to other branches. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from PatsyB: Have made a start on postering for Pip. Started at Wotton working south towards Leith Hill. Posters now up at Wotton Hatch pub, Wolvens Store (horse/dog food place), village notice boards and bus stop in Wotton. Then we bumped into the owner of the Wotton Estate, together with his Land Agent, Head Keeper and some estate workers, who all look posters and promised to look out for Pip. Then to Broadmoor - little hamlet on the Wotton Estate. Posters up at stables (where Jack Russells went missing in 2004) and village notice board. Posters also up at Abinger Common, Friday Street, by Stephan Langton pub and Leith Hill car park on the Abinger side of the hill. Last poster went up in Coldharbour village, outside the pub. Spoke to Coldharbour resident who knew all about Pip - they have a village website and all 150 residents all were informed of Pip's disappearance by email. (I had never thought of community websites - good idea for emailing posters). Also gave posters to a few dog-walkers we met. Was at Polesden Lacey this evening and have given poster to Head Warden, who will spread the word to other NT Wardens in N. Downs area. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from PatsyB: Jan, I'm also going to Cranleigh show on Sunday and shall take posters for Pip (and all our other missing dogs in this area). Really nice agricultural show and loads of people go and masses of trade stands etc., so should reach lots of people. Have spoken to Battersea today and registered Pip as missing - no dogs fitting her description have come in recently. Unable to poster myself this evening, but will start tomorrow am. Have managed to poster from Ockley through to Holmbury St. Mary, all along the main road at footpath / bridleways we were able to stop. Also two bus stops. Could do with more if anyone can, mine were pretty spread out? Walked dogs at Newlands, unfortunately no posters left, but reported another dog to admin (sorry, no pen or paper with me). We had a good scan of the area but nothing. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from patsyB: Good! Library picture now on poster, so we can make a start. Have left message for owner saying poster now ready. Owner did tell me yesterday that, in the past, Pip has roamed towards Ockley direction, so that may be a good place to start. Owner works for Nat. Trust, (me too - but only v. part-time volunteer), so we can spread the word with wardens etc. Hoping for good news soon . . . Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from PatsyB: Have emailed you Admin. Pip's owner has telephoned - she cannot find photo of Pip. Can we find library picture of similar dog? - black, smooth coated lurcher with white chest, v. like a greyhound, but a bit stockier. Then we can get on with posters. Owner has already put up some home-made posters. Pip went missing on Leith Hill. She has run off before. Leith Hill is Nat. Trust, but joins on to Wotton Estate - big shooting estate, but owner says Pip would not worry pheasants, but would chase after deer or hares/rabbits. Owner has only moved to this area from Scotland a few months ago, but Pip knows her way home - home is also on Leith Hill - lots of open country and woods. This area is close to Broadmoor RH5 where four Jack Russells disappeared from stableyard two years ago. Owner has spoken to Dog Warden, but not contacted Battersea. We need to organise list of rescues for her to ring asap. I said I would speak to Battersea tomorrow for her as she (owner) in meeting at work all day. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
