All the little missing Scotties are in the new Breeders' STBEA Year Book. Let's hope it brings Angus and all the others safely home. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I run a dog grooming salon in belfast NI and i will look out for angus for his twisted leg. I have had many strange clients and bookings that leave me assuming that the dog they have does not belong to them or they are trying to hide something. I am so sorry, and can understand how you must still feel. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How did you get on with the Ferry Company, Nik? The days are ticking by and I can't understand how this story - or the dogs involved - could just disappear. There are not a lot of Scotties about, so I do hope Angus is safe and will come to light soon. Have his owners heard any more? Good luck Angus, come home soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jazzi posted this a little earlier on Spot's page: I have just spoken to Spots owners, heres a little more scandal. According to the ships log the Port Agents were notified of the missing dogs at 6.35am, however the police were not notified till 7.20am, by this time a 3rd of the passengers had left. I will be contacting the ferry company tomorrow to speak to the Managing Director if possible. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I understand that the owners of both Angus and Spot were both given tickets that excluded liability for loss or theft. This does not necessarily exclude responsibilty of the Ferry Co and does not mean that the owners do not have a cause of action against the Ferry Co. It will be worth both owners taking legal action against the Ferry Co. If action is taken it will be up to the Ferry Co to prove that they did warn the owners of the risks invilved in leavingtheir dogs in "secure kennels." I know this wont bring Angus and Spot back but hopefully will lead to changes in how the Ferry Company deal with dogs on Fery's in the future. It may be worth the owners postering at both ports on their way back, as someone on the Ferry may have seen someone with these dogs and not realised that it was suspicious.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Come home Angus and Spot this is all so worrying would put me off taking my dogs away - horrible really feel for both sets of owners and what with the ferry company not taking it seriously enough to drive you insane but keep fighting and hopefully they will both be found safely very soon. Where Angus and Spot sighted out of their kennels at all? Is this story going to the press, if not it should. It might shame the ferry company into action. Surely they could contact all the passengers - they will have their details. It must have been one of the passengers responsible and a phone call or a letter might put the frighteners on. I really don't think these dogs were thrown overboard. Seems a lot of trouble to go to just to do that. They must have been smuggled. Thoughts with the owners xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EXACTLY JMO! I keep suggesting to owners that they get onto their breed RESCUE SOCIETIES, but it seems to get lost somewhere! By the way, I had contacted STECS ages ago about the other Scotties and they said they'd put them in the newsletter. It's worth checking that they do - they're a fantastic lot of people but things can sometimes get missed. Their website has had Angus on the front page for a few days now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Following my trip to the STC (Eng) Show yesterday, STECS (Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme) has very kindly offered to place details of all our missing Scotties ( currently 5) on the front page of their website. I have this evening emailed the details. The secretary has also agreed that if I email any missing Scotties in the future, she will forward these onto the Reps up and down the Country. I have got to thinking that if there is anyone else involved in other breeds, would they be able to contact their Rescue Societies and ask them to do the same. It not only gives this website and the missing dogs more publicity but will also get more helpers on board. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

STECS Ireland rep. knows about Angus and some of their representatives are going around the Irish pounds. I think the Irish Derby was this week-end, so wonder if any dogs would have been sold on there?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got back from the SCT England Show. Most Scottie people up and down the Country, including Ireland, are now aware of Angus. If he is moved on, sold, used for stud, trimmed or anyone wants any info about Scotties, then he is now very likely to be picked up. Nik, I have not done anything about Dog World yet so I will leave that to you. However, they should take interest as an awful lot of dogs are travelling into our Country from the continent for Dog Shows and there is a Championship Show in Belfast later this year and a lot of people and dogs will be travelling there, with their dogs, by ferry. If you wnat any further info please let me know. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Angus also appears on the Irish Animals In Need website in the lost and found section. Jimi, will the Irish STECS have automatically been contacted? South Wales CH Show Terrier day is next Thursday so will also take posters there as well. JAZZI Do you know who on Doglost deals with the media. I don't want to contact the dog press and step on someone elses toes. I will see our Breed Rep for Dog World tomorrow and will be able to ask her to put Angus in her column. The others missing Scotties have all appeared. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jimi, I agree with you and can't see a Scottie jumping into the sea. They are naturally very intelligent dogs. I think that someone may have picked him up and hopefully they still have him with them. JMO, STECS already have an alert about Angus on the front page of their website. I have sent his poster to the STBEA. It all looks very worrying and I can't see how the police can leave it at that. I can't see a Scottie jumping overboard either, can you, unless he was chased. I do hope some good news will come of this soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have received the following email from the owner. QUOTE Unfortunately the microchip pet alert company he is registered with is in Los Angeles, I have their name and phone number, but not with me here in Ireland, and I can't be back in London until the 8th or 9th. Also the photos I have with me are in London and were taken when we first got here from Los Angeles and I had let him grow very shaggy because I thought he would be cold here. He now has a regular breed cut and looks exactly like every other black scottie, though slightly smaller than average and with a brownish tinge to his black coat. His only distinguishing mark is his twisted left front leg. The ferry company brought in the Cork police when we docked, and they supposedly checked all the departing cars. The Captain also informed the Coast Guard. I don't think they will be prepared to do any more. I don't have a car and am staying two hours away from Cork, so I can't check the Cork Pound and it's just an answering machine there. Thank you for all your help, but the scenario.... two dogs missing sighted wandering etc.... really points to them either falling or being pushed overboard. The deck rim is only about six inches high and the first rail a good foot above that UNQUOTELast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jimi, If you do STECS and the Breeders and I will do STC (Eng) and the Breed correspondants in the Dog Press. I agree with Marshend, theowners should definately get a Solicitor involved against the Ferry Co.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If the dogs went missing before the ferry berthed then it was someone on board, The ferry company would have all the names of the passengers, I would threaten them ( the ferry company)with a solicitor and the press!! Perhaps the list could be handed over to someone responsible for security, police , insurance investigators( cos I would put in one hell of a claim) The passengers could be approached with a letter, I am sure they would be horrified by the possibilities and somebody may have witnessed someone doing something with a dog, such as putting them in a car or driving off with the dogs in a car. Good news soon I hope ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

JMo, Will you be in touch with STECS (Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme) and the Breeders' Clubs? They will spread the word I'm sure. If you can't, let me know and I'll contact them. When I told my husband about this, he thought I'd read it in the National Press, and said it would be all over the papers and TV News. So it should! I'm appalled. The dogs travelling should be kept safe, well and secure. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You'd have thought it wasn't beyond the ferry company to have lockable kennels (in the same way as they have lockable cabins) - 1 key for owner and another for staff. Even supermarkets have secure lockers for trolleys. Just seems ridiculous. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Has the owners contacted the Ferry Company? They may be able to either contact the passengers or give the owners the names of the passengers to see if anyone has any information. I am sure the Ferry Co will not want this story to get out in the press as it would be bad for business so I am sure they would want to help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please forgive my ignorance, but are dogs required to be confined in kennels on these ferries and not allowed to be with their owners? If that's the case then the ferry people have a duty of care and the owner should consider suing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to owners, another dog went missing from the top deck of the same ferry crossing. At 1am both dogs were wandering around the top deck, and taken back to their kennels by staff. At 4am staff have confirmed that Angus was in his kennel. At 5.30am both dogs had disappeared. Owner now fears the worse thinking that Angus may have been thrown over board by someone.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
