Afraid I haven't been on the website for a while. It's now almost 6 months since Pip went missing, but haven't given up hope. I constantly check the websites of all the local holding kennels, Dogstrust, and the Border Collie Trust. I have a feeling he may well have found his way to a farm, which is the environment he was used to, but wasnt too good as a working dog.

Male border Collie very thin at Stray Aid, worth a look ??
LindaT
Any chance the found male border collie just listed 67991 in Huddersfield/Wakefield may be PIP? No photo or details as yet, but it may be worth checking out?Last edited: 2014-04-26 12:35:31 by LindaT

Apologies for the delay in replying. No further news I'm afraid with respect to the possible sighting. There have been two border collies in the local holding kennel which looked very similar to Pip, but neither of them were him. Although Pips markings are distinctive, there are so many dogs who look very similar. However I'm very grateful that people are still looking, and any possible sightings are worth following up. Still not giving up.

Is there any news?
LindaT
Hope this is Pip ... is there any chance of being able to see any cctv footage in the area in case you can identify him?
Ken Moore
Possible sighting yesterday of Pip in an area of South Shields called 'The Bronx'. A lady notified the veterinary surgery where Pip was registered. Mainly Staffies in this area so the lady who saw the dog said he stood out. Still relying on every bit of help. Looked around the area yesterday, but if I make too many visits the locals will get suspicious. Hopefully someone else might see the dog and let me know..

There is a border collie found near sunderland on dogs found section could this be your PIP perhaps? Goodluck x
blackbeard2
I'm not from your area but looking on a map, this found collie doesn't look too far away from where Pip went missing from? It says tri colour but thought it still worth mentioning in case a mistake has been made.

I live in a large village and our parish council postering policy is to allow a few but not flood every single post. The highways seem to remove them from traffic speed signs and direction signposts etc. It may be worth phoning your council to see if they have been removing your posters, otherwise it seems a bit odd. Also may be worth phoning the microchip company and explaining the situation, if they get a dog reported that could be Pip and the phone number is no longer available, for instance, they may not be able to get in touch with the original owners anyway. Worth a try?Last edited: 2014-01-16 18:26:18 by LindaT

No reply yet re the microchipping details. Is it against council rules to put 'missing' posters on lamposts and bus shelters? All of mine have been taken down, roughly in the area of the possible sighting of Pip on New Years Eve! Sorry but they're all going back up again! Power to the dogs!! I've had to slow down a little on searching for Pip due to ill health. Just hoping someone out there has a sighting. Thanks again for everyone's support.

Thankyou Ken.
Hopefully they get back to you quickly as it is really important to get the matter of the microchip settled.
As I said in my email to you if you need any help or advice with regards the microchip or anything else please contact me. X
Ken Moore
I have contacted the previous owners again to ascertain microchip details , and am awaiting a reply. I'm not sure whether Pip was passed from shepherd to shepherd so he may have had another previous owner, but hopefully I can get some details.
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Thsnks !LindaT , I will email ken to clarify what has been done about the microchip and will update Pips details accordingly x
LindaT
Hopefully the farmer will have given you the microchip details, the company (maybe Petlog) or whichever company the chip is with will be informed if Pip is picked up and scanned so they need to know who to contact, best to make sure they have the up-to-date details of the registered owner, if the farmer has not informed them of a change of ownership then it needs to be done, and if someone does have him and needs any vet treatment and Pip is scanned, if the microchip company have him registered as missing then it should mean the vet is aware, I believe. Also the details on here need to be amended to say he is chipped,Ken.Last edited: 2014-01-13 19:43:25 by LindaT

Just found out from the farmer I bought Pip from that he WAS chipped. I hope this helps locate him. Still searching and waiting for a sighting. Stranger things have happened but rang on the off chance he could have made his way back to Northumberland from South Shields. I'm positive somebody out there has him.
christine kipling
That's a shame never mind keep searching we have another site strayAid.co.uk keep checking that one too just in case I wish you all the luck in the world if I can help with anything let me know x
Ken Moore
Hi Christine, I checked the website and the border collie is older than Pip. Thankyou for letting me know about strayaction. I can keep checking the website. I think we continue to assume Pip could still be local but he may have travelled some distance. I'm not giving up hope. Thanks again
christine kipling
Hi, can you have a look under the stray dogs section on www.strayaction.com, there has been a stray picked up in North Durham that could be him, fingers crossed for you, if you need any help just let me know, I work as a volunteer at this site and know the owners very well so can find out the details for you if you need help x

Good there has been a sighting. Why don't you put a poster or flyer through letter boxes in the road concerned. He may well have slipped his collar by now as it is quite usual for dogs to lose weight quickly when they are running. I am not surprised you are exhausted. This is such a stressful situation for you. Many of us on this site have been in the same position, that's why we totally understand. I do so hope you get some positive news soon.

Paws xd for the safe return of of Pip.

Couldn`t see the article online but hope it will bring some info on Pip`s whereabouts :-)

Bumoing for media coverage !
Last nights SHIELDS GAZETTE featured a large article and photogrph about Pip .
Hoping this will bring some news of Pip x
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Hi ken, please let us know when the article about Pip is in the newspaper so we can bump his page up to coincide with the media coverage x
Ken Moore
Linda T, took your advice and the local gazette have agreed to put an article in to help find Pip. Thankyou.

So sorry that Pip is still missing. Try and be positive. Eva the border collie was missing for nearly 5 months three years ago, managing to survive in the most atrocious snowy weather, so please don't feel dejected - you are doing all you can to find him.I am sure he will be finding some source of food. Good luck, and I hope that lovely Pip is soon found, safe and well xx
Ken Moore
Bit dejected tonight. Put updated posters out first thing this morning and tonight, in the area of the possible sighting. Still no news. I now have a feeling someone may have taken him in or he's hiding somewhere. It was Sunday when he was last fed!
BBKM
Hoping Pip is found safe and home very soon x
Nora
It is possible, he could of slipped his collar, I have a springer that was always slipping his collar, and he and one of my collies can slip a harness if it is not tight enough, so everything is crossed here that it is Pip and he is caught soon, come on Pip lad show yourself!
LindaT
How about contacting the local paper to see if they will do a story, they have just done one on a Staffie who went into the sea at the weekend and was helped to safety with coastguards and members of the public ( Sunderland Echo I believe )
Ken Moore
Received a phone call this afternoon of a possible sighting of Pip in South Shields seen yesterday lying down in the street. This was in Hayden Ave between Centenary Ave and Prince Edward Road. We have looked all around that area and also the Nook area and The Dell. If it was Pip,New Years celebrations and fireworks mean he's probably moved on. Gives us some hope, - so close to home. Hopefully someone has taken him in so we shall try the local kennels again tomorrow. Will go back to Cleadon Hills area again tonight which is close to the area he was possibly sighted. Thanks again.
Foggydog
Thinking of you. Prayers xx
LindaT
Ken, if you google animalwardens.co.uk and click on the Lost and Found tab, just below is a list of all Dog Warden phone numbers, scroll down and there are numbers for Northumberland and other areas, also your local council should be able to provide a phone number if they use a particular company as the collection service for a number of local counties, as they do in my area; you may be able to get the number on their website?
Ken Moore
Thanks everyone. We have scoured the cliffs and base of the cliffs for some distance, and contacted the coastguard. Someone has kindly contacted Sunderland RNLI who have posted a photo of Pip on Twitter. I have checked Marsden Quarry and surrounding areas, and also been the opposite direction to Trow Rocks still to no avail. Thanks Pauline I have checked part of Cleadon Hills. I share concerns that Pip's lead may have become wedged somewhere. I am just about to return again to the area Pip ran off from. It is so very near to home I would hope he would come back. Might sound pathetic, but I'm exhausted! Apart from Cleadon kennels does anyone know of other holding kennels which are further afield, just in case Pip has managed to travel some distance? I have been asked today if I have contacted the previous owners, but I honestly don't think he could find his way back to the far north of Northumberland. He has come from a farm so we have wondered whether he possibly has come across a local farm? Thanks again everyone.
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Thanks everyone ,
I did suggest contacting t the coastguard to Ken in my first email to him . Have you done this yet Ken ?
Obvious concerns too that Pip could have become trapped somewhere if the handle of his lead has become wedged against something .
I would still advise Ken to keep returning to the area Pip ran off from and search there thoroughly as he could have returned there once he calmed down . XLast edited: 2013-12-31 12:22:32 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

Pip may have ran across the main road and headed up towards Cleadon Hills/Golf Course??? If so his lead may have got tangled in the many bushes up there.....Worth a look!
LindaT
Please do think of letting the coastguards know, if they have any other reason to be in the area I`m sure they would not object to looking at the cliff face as they pass by? They do also do training exercises ... not sure about the area you are in, but perhaps they might be able to help or advise in someway. If they are in the area at night and Pip is on a cliff-ledge they might catch his eyes in the torchlight. Just a thought, they can only say no after all. Also any Mountain Rescue teams might be able to offer advice or help? A Tracker dog? I do feel for you all, I know the above ideas might be clutching at straws, but anything is worth a try. Good Luck in your searches, wish I could help out.
Ken Moore
Thankyou everyone for your continued support and advice. The response has been fantastic. We have checked wooded areas further along the coastline, and also beneath the cliffs as much as we can physically get access to. Pip is an extremely nervous dog, but is very friendly towards other dogs so may approach someone with a dog. He may well have sought refuge in a very small area such as underneath a bush or in a small cave. We have not heard Pip bark at all since acquiring him, even in the presence of our other border collie pup, or when other dogs are barking. It makes it that more difficult to locate him if he is in distress and doesn't call out. We shall be continuing to search today in other areas, and hopefully find him soon. Thanks again, we really appreciate everyone's support.
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
When out looking along the coastline, please look up at the cliffs. Dogs have been rescued having gone over a cliff and landed on a ledge. Good luck, I do hope you find Pip soon.

Thanks everyone x
Sadly there is still no news of Pip.
His owners have informed the dog warden, local vets and checked with the holding kennels . They have been out searching throughout the day and family will be checking the coastline beneath the cliffs at low tide tonight .
Hoping for some news of Pip very soon xLast edited: 2013-12-30 18:39:15 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

Oh dear, what a worry. I do hope the lovely Pip is soon found, safe and well xxxx
LindaT
What an awful thing to happen, I do hope poor Pip is found safely, he must be very traumatised. I wonder if the coastguards are about in the area they could scan the cliffs with their binoculars, it`s always possible if a dog goes over it lands somewhere out of sight, especially if it was getting dark when he went missing.
Nora
It is possible that his lead could have got caught up on something, are there any wooded areas or areas of undergrowth that need searching, he could be caught up somewhere

Pips owners have only had him for a few weeks and he is a very nervous dog. At approximately 4 pm whilst on a walk he pulled on his extending lead and it was dropped . The noise of the handle hitting the ground frightened him and as he ran the continued noise of the handle hitting the ground frightened him further and made him continue to run even faster and he was soon out of sight.
Have sent owners appropriate advice . Hoping this boy is found and back with his owners very soon x
