Sorry you havn't found florence yet. I have been looking a the Mill Rescue web site which was primerily set up to rehabilitate Bearded Collies and Bearded Collie crosses. If you havn't already it might be worth getting in touch with them, just in case she has passed through or turned up there. Wishing you all the best in getting Florence home very soon. Keep strong I am sure one day you will be rewarded in having her home. With her being chipped you are in with a good chance. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for that Cavalannie - I'll try some of your suggestions if (hopefully) I spot Florence. I certainly won't attempt a citizens arrest! My sister-in-law found a dog wandering and lost in a carpark in Leicester several years ago - it was a labrador cross bitch. She took it home and contacted every authority she could to find it's owners with no success. She ended up keeping the dog who she named Holly and it's lived and is still living a very happy life which proves that many dogs that are lost end up being well cared for and much loved pets. I hope this story will give some comfort to the many owners who lose their dogs each year. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well, I expect it's illegal or something, but if you had a camera phone you could subtlely photograph the dog, the people and the car if there is one........note the location of course. I get chatting to people with dogs and try casually to find out, the when and where of them getting the dog. I've not yet had anyone admit to buying the dog in a pub or market................... I suppose I'd do everything I could to get a car reg. or find out where they live in casual conversation....then I suppose I'd pass all the info. onto Jayne and the owners. Don't think I'd challenge them because they would be likely to go to ground....after all, the sort of people who buy a dog in a pub or market are not likely to be squeaky clean types are they?! Not sure that slinging a lead round their ankles and tying them up to a lamp-post would be acceptable.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant idea to check for black and white legs on hairy dogs in the search for Florence. I will definitely keep a lookout. This is probably a daft question but if I did see a dog with it's owner that could be Florence (or any other missing dog for that matter) what is the correct procedure? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The problem with her kind of coat is that she isn't often going to look like the picture - however, the thing to focus on is her front legs, the right is black, left is white. Keep looking at every hairy dog you see, or even every trimmed a or shaved hairy dog, inspect the front legs!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Me to, I always check every day with hope in my heart, I feel so sad for Florence, the Blair family & of course all those others whose dogs have gone missing. Maybe we could all keep on encouraging our vets to check for microchips on any dog that is new to them, you just never know, maybe groomers could check on dogs that are 'new' to them as well...is this feasible? So pleased to see Doglost featured so prominently this morning following appeal for Widget & Gizmo, the finding of Widget & follow-up general appeal.Lets hope that someone, somewhere will come up with good news about Florence. I check daily & it breaks my heart, like others I am often reduced to tears. Even more so today as I my own beloved Beardie died yesterday morning, after a short & sudden illness, - I know only to well the sense of loss & total emptiness, & I suspect the 'not knowing' about your lost/stolen furry friend can only add to the pain. I do so hope that Florence, and all the other poor lost dogs are found & reunited very soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

have not been on site for a couple of weeks, hoping when i logged back on florence would be home. i just feel so awful for her owners. reading your lost and found site really brings it home to you about the uncaring people who steal other peoples dogs. how can they? they must be emotional devoids. but there are also so many good people out there who even though they do not know either dog or owner will move heaven and earth to try and find them. i am always in tears after reading this site. and it restores my faith in human nature.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a thought, have you thought of trying a pet psychic to try and trace Florence. I know theres been lots of Dogs recovered when people consult pet psychic John Starkey, all he requires is a photo of the dog,an exact map of the area where the dog was taken from and either a toy or something the dog really loved. His address to contact him is 210 Penn Road, Wolverhampton WV4 4AA, his telephone number is 01902 334224, I've been told that you can send him the map and photos etc and if he can help he will tell you and then you pay ?50 or there abouts. Worth a try. Hope this is of some help. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne, I'm in leatherhead. We have the Mole river, it might not necessarily be a canal. Sutton / Nonsuch are 20/25 mins in car. Only 8 miles but lots of traffic lights. Also the Hogsmill river meanders from Nonsuch Park area for miles. Anyone around the Worcester Park area can poster or has that been covered? Florence has been in the car window since day one. Yesterday dog walkers were looking at it, so still active here. Any other ideas for me?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I don't live in or near Sutton now but did many years ago..canals/rivers with canal boats (if that is the suggestion) or similar in that area or within 40 miles would be River Wey, River Thames, Basingstoke canal, all in Surrey/Hants area & then in London direction - there is Grand Union Canal, Regents Canal. Sutton is very near original point of loss, ie. Nonsuch Park. hope that of some help. If you can provide any more info I still have family & connections in that area. Still checking everyday for Good News on Florence, still very much in all our hearts & thoughts.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Right that was not very productive! Cumbria Police no 08453300247 - havent rung them but thought I would go to the local council and speak to the dog warden. Whitehaven comes under Copeland Borough Council tel 01946852585 but I dont think the lady knew what a dog warden was so I struggled to get her to understand or struggled full stop After a long period I am told the phone number to ring is 01946 852636 but there was no reply. This apparently is the enforcement section who she assures me deals with dog wardens. I am not convinced. Can I leave this to someone else to try tomorrow please? perhaps 1st thing before they get too busy as I will be working and out and about in the evening - thanks - COME ON FLORENCE BABY everyone is willing you to be found safe and wellLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Interested in this as I know each police authority deal with lost dogs differently but in Devon and Cornwall they notify the local dog warden and they collect them very quickly. Perhaps find out who the local dog warden is via the council and contact them direct - not unless I have misunderstood this part of the link. I will make some enquiries and post more later if I can find anymore out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't been able to keep up on whats happened, but have been out of action for a while. So sorry to read that Florence has still not been bound, but glad to see that all efforts continue to find her. I will just mention that, on reading my local paper, a Bearded Collie did get into difficulties in Whitehaven on Sunday(Yesterday). It gave the Coastguard the slip, whilst they attempted to rescue it, and ran off across fields. Might be worth contacting HM Coastguard, to see if they have any details.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jimi, thank you. Florence could be anywhere at all, so all posters in any location help. We need to still keep Florence "hot property" - it's been what, 8 weeks now - her coat will be getting longer especially with the change in season and she'll soon be in need of a trim. We need to keep all groomers everywhere aware. Actually... that's a thought. Matt do your parents have a photo we can also add that shows Florence with a longer coat?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have put about a dozen posters up around Woodbridge - pubs, post offices, newsagents, garden centres, Budgens and tomorrow will put them in vets. (Local vet had no leads to Florence.) I don't know if there is any reason to believe that Florence could be out in this neck of the woods though? I hope she is happy and being well looked after, wherever she is. Good luck in getting her home safely.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A big thank you to the gentleman who contacted us yesterday with a possible lead, this man has been out all morning looking for the blue van and was successful in finding it. Unfortunately, the dog found was a Staffie. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was there any indication on the blue van poster that the found dog could be like Florence? If not, it could be a red herring, as quite a few dogs get lost on Sutton Heath, a favourite dog-walking place. I will keep an eye out for any further signs though.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does doglost know of the icsurrey website? It has local news for Surrey and usual ad's etc. I notice there are no dogs listed on their lost and found pages, only three cats. Go to www.icsurreyonline.icnetwork.co.uk. Its in Family News / Lost & Found. Worth a go!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad to hear they're including Florence in the filming Jayne. When I took a poster to the vet's in Bewdley, I asked if they ever scan new dogs. They said they only scan strays that come in. I explained about the number of chipped dogs that are stolen and are probably now 'owned' by innocent people, and what their real owners are going through, trying to find their dogs. They said they will talk to the management about it. They had never thought of it like that. I went into Bewdley again today and gave a poster to the big issue lady. To be honest though, I don't think she understood a word I said. ChrisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know Suffolk may be a long shot, but have put Posters up in Newsagent's window in Aldeburgh and on Budgen's board in Woodbridge. Do hope Florence will soon be reunited with her family. I wonder if there are lots of dogs similar to Florence. I saw one being walked last week near to a village called Ufford off the A12 - he/she looked fairly elderly and slow but was looking happily at the owner. Wish I could have stopped the car but it was probably a red herring anyway.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The dog I saw was being walked by a woman. Suzie emailed me another photo and the dog I saw looks so like Florence. I am getting posters to vets in the area. I think I've seen a 'big issue' seller in Bewdley so, if I see her when I'm in Bewdley, I'll give her a poster too. I'm not sure if Bewdley has it's own postal delivery office but if it does I'll leave one there as well. ChrisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just been onto Rochdale dog rescue site and it is very emotive - I realise that funds are needed but to put dates of when these poor dogs are going to be destroyed is emotive. Have printed off some new posters of Florence as beardies in need are halfway through sending out Vet cards informing beardie owners of our help and fun events and Rambles which our East Anglian and South East branch of the bearded collie club hold, so the cards left to send we will put a poster in with them. Also are branch mag go out soon which cover from Portsmouth up to Lincoln so will try and get a poster out with those. So hope we get some good news soon. We have plenty of help here if anyone could just see her, we have night vision goggles and trap with plenty of helpers. If like me you received the poster (I live in Devon) and thought she cant be down here, you could be wrong! I contacted the Gypsy/travellers police officer and he assures me that this is the time of year that alot of "travellers" (excuse the collectiveness/diversity) will travel down the coast. I am close to the Devon border and have spoke to a friend in Camborne and she will put posters up in that area and get some relatives to put posters up in their areas in Cornwall. Of course I will be too in Tavistock/Okehampton/Launceston vets. I feel if she is with a traveller she will be well loved and cared for but they are unaware of her plight. Hope this helps, I cant stop thinking about her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is the first year where I'm not looking forward to going as i feel i will have to have eyes in the back of my head! Don't want to worry you but I haven't received email re poster yet & I am in the C postcodes. I have printed some off anyway from the site & will place them accordingly. I will also email to contacts elsewhere in the country. Also as Florence is a beardie cross I guess her coat will be looking a fair bit different to the photo by now. Is her sister similar in appearance & was she clipped at the same time as Florence, just wondering if maybe another photo would help at all. Clipped Beardies can look very diffferent once their coat grows, as most of you will know, but maybe not everybody does! Nothing yet Shelly :o( Charlotte is doing great going back to the location of the last sighting of the dog her son saw and the blairs are continuing their daily search too, I just don't understand how a dog this "hot" can still be hidden somewhere. Surely even if she wasn't being walked, someone must've seen her go in a neighbours garden for a wee - she's not a little dog you can just hide away she's fluffy and noticeable... I just don't get it... where are you sweetheart, come on show yourself. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Paddy - you are right if she is sighted it will be a case of softly, softly, catch the monkey.I would find it hard to believe she could get herself from Nonsuch to there too.If she is there then she may have been let loose as she's too 'hot to handle' with all the coverage and postering etc.We have to hope for the phone call or news that brings her home one way or another. AnnieB - thanks that would be great when you get the chance please. We don't appear to have heard anymore yet but fingers crossed.JxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If the sighting yesterday was Florence, I mentioned earlier that she could go in so many different directions: Along the River Thames towpath towards Hampton Court and Kingston. Up river towards Weybridge and then easily onto the Wey Canal towpath towards Guildford or simply around Walton. I'm sure someone would have noticed her and also seen one of the many posters now out. Here's hoping that tomorrow brings another sighting of her and ultimately brings her home!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was assuming she was stolen and then released in the Walton area. I cannot believe she could have safely negotiated her way from Nonsuch to there, especially without being spotted and reported. I just don't see it happening. BTW...when looking for her take a slip lead as well, that can be dropped over her head and doesn't mean she needs to firmly held to get on (like an ordinary collar and lead). She's going to be at best, skittish, at worst, actively avoiding anyone who tries to catch her. Even people she knows. Its how they can be when they've been on the loose for a while. I can only assume survival stuff kicks in and they move away before they register who is trying to catch them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good morning all, my husband David and I ended up going down to the river last night at about 7.30 pm armed with food and a collar and lead. I had no idea how much ground there was down there and how far it stretched. Like Jenny, I too went there again this morning and had no luck. Nobody had seen her, no signs of anything amiss at the riverside cafe and (fortunately) no accidents on any of the roads nearby. I, too, feel that she would have to have had the luck of the Gods not to have been seriously injured if she has come from Brooklands industrial estate, but anything's possible. I will keep an eye out still, have told all our neighbours (a lot of them go cycling in and around the area) and dog walking friends. Jenny has done the posters in the area, sorry it's not better news. Charlotte xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have put posters up on notice board by the cafe at Walton Bridge, on varioius tree seen by dog walkers along the towparth there (Cowey Sale), on the main notice board in the middle of Shepperton High Street, on trees by the corner of Walton Lane over looking the weir/towpath, outside St Georges College Junior School in Weybridge and also on trees on the towpath of the River Wey in Weybridge. Hi Minibully, I have run posters off and have pasted a new line omitting the sighting in Halifax and putting 'sightings 24th Feb in Weybridge and Walton' as I think the Halifax sighting might make people locally here not take it so seriously! I've been following this story since Lionel was on This Morning In light of this we cancelled a grooming appointment for two of our three cockers because we were scared! Say no more! My big old boy went in the end though and my hubby insisted he sat with him and wasn't going to leave him at all! I'm so proud of all of you who are in the areas where Florence may have been seen and are out constantly - I've said doggy prayers since the minute I knew she was missing. The hope I can offer is our neighbours lost a special cat and we searched and searched but in the end had to give up - it was a total of three months she was gone but six weeks after we gave up she was back at home healthy and happy! We didn't know the people before but we are best of friends now. Well done all of you - any news of the recent sightings? Good luck - you are all in my mind every hour - I know what it's like to lose a pet! Jilly Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue & family - good luck tomorrow in Walton - if you need advice about scenting (and jayne hasn't already run you through it) please call in and we'll chat you through it - it'll sound bizarre but it works. MiniBully is right, take pilchards (dogs smell them a mile off) and often a disposable bbq if you can find one - cook sausages/burgers/fish - anything that a loose dog will smell. If it is her and you see her, don't be surprised if she doesn't come running at you, you'll need to gain her confidence, which is why the scenting and food is so important. We're all watching and waiting and hoping with you all. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will be looking in Walton on Thames tomorrow, so grateful for all the kind messages. It's so cold again tonight I am desperatly worried about florence who has had ten years of warmth and love. Jenny G, thanks for that info. I will try to get there tomorrow morning before work, but if I don't have time, at least I know 2 of you will be looking. This all sounds promising - pilchards are very smelly and work a treat(excuse the pun) . May be worth a scent trail too if it is Florence....Puzzling how she could have covered so much area in 1 Day though it is a busy area and lots of main roads. However as for getting to your area from Nonsuch - well missing Dogs can have a habit of 'travelling', say no more.Good that area will now be postered too - thanks.Good luck.JxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have only just logged on - mores the pity! I spoke to Charlottle (Dougie&Boomer) earlier this evening and she hadn't mentioned the possible sighting of Florence! There is no point in me going out at this time of night as its just too dark. I've just tried to speak to Charlotte again and she must be out as no answer. I know exactly where she has described. The park area is opposite the towpath by Walton Bridge. Access then to the towpath either down river towards Hampton Court or up river towards Weybridge etc. I will go out first thing in morning armed with posters to put up and will ask at the river cafe by Walton Bridge. It does seem a long way to have come from Epsom and Ewell!! I have been sent via dog lost information that there was a possible sighting of Florence in Brooklands Industrial Estate this morning - IF this was Florence I don't understand how she could have covered so much ground in such a short period of time. It would also have involved her crossing loads and loads of busy roads. Will poster heavily in morning!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I only found this site through seeing Florence's Dad on tv, and it has made me so much more aware of dog theft. I have a 2 yr old Shih tzu, our first dog, and I look at him and think how heartbroken we would be if he were stolen from us, he runs the house !! This site has really opened my eyes to what goes on out there. He won't be let off the lead in the park anymore. I feel certain that Florence will be found. Thanks to her owner, her face has become so well known. Lets hope that this sighting may lead to good news today. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been out postering this morning, everyone seems to be aware of Florence. I was lucky enough to meet the Estat Manager for Haughley Park, this covers a huge area next to the A14. He was going out in his 4x4 looking in areas the public cant get to. A Haulage repair business down by A14 were helpful and they keep dogs on site so will keep a look out. Also livery stables ,Transport cafe and all the usual places. Looks as though there is a lot of Doglost activity going on in Suffolk. I feel so helpless in Surrey, near Nonsuch Park where it all began. Looks as though everyone is hot on her trail. Good luck all you helpers out there, I do pray this is Florence.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just checked my road atlas as I live miles away, but have noticed there is a Travelodge on the A14 near Woolpit. . Could a local helper get in touch with them ( they are dog friendly!!) and ask them to poster. Many people pass through services and may help. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been checking out the last sightings, one was at Woolpit boot sale last Sunday. The most interesting one was from Monday morning approx. 8.00am at the side of the A14 Eastbound between the roadworks at Rougham and the 50mph. at Haughley bends. This is a stretch of road about 5 miles long, informant couldn't be more accurate. This is a very busy fast road, lots of container lorries. Need to poster, Elmswell, Tostock and Wetherden. Will be out tomorrow.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have the day off tomorrow so if anyone needs any extra help please let me know. I'm more towards Woodbridge, but will go wherever necessary to help. I've seen Lionel on TV a few times today and am really glad that he mentioned the site. A good point was raised on the Wright Stuff this morning about the amount of charities and rescue centres out there, a lot of people don't know where to start when they lose their baby, so it's fantastic that this site is getting so much airtime although for very sad reasons. Unfortunately dog-napping isn't new, I remember a case back in the mid 90's when I lived in London of it happening. I have four dogs and would lose my mind if one of them went missing. So good luck to all that have lost theirs and thank god for this site. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just seen poor Lionel on BBC news talking about the loss of his beloved dog Florence. How can people be so cruel? If some one has found her and are tempted to keep her because she is so cute PLEASE PLEASE put your self in the position of this poor family who have lost a much loved member of their family and return her home. There are so many real homeless dogs in rescue centres needing homes. Please return her. I will pray that Florence and all the other missing dogs return home soon. I have Emailed all my friends and to pass it on to their friends.Keep your hope up Lionel and familyxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just wanted to say how sorry I was about this beautiful little girl - it has really upset me - she is the spitting image of my old english sheepdog Lucy and is the same age - so I can totally sympathise but cannot imagine how the owners must feel. Lucy is my best-est mate and we go everywhere together. Beardies are frequently mistaken for old english sheepdogs and Florence doesnt look like a cross. I feel sure Florence is safe and will be home very soon and looking forward to a big cuddle from her Mum and Dad. Take care - wish I could help look for her but live in Devon - everyone is willing her home xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done SuzeeBee! I do hope Florence is found safely very soon. I saw the article in the Express today - it was good that it made front page news. I just worry that telling people how much money can be made from this trade will encourage others to start? I know we have to make people aware but it is a bit of a vicious circle. I thought the idea that people should call a hotline to say whether dog napping should be treated as seriously as child napping was a very odd approach. They are both despicable crimes. Come home safely Florence! Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you guys - even if this isn't florence, remember the dog on the loose belongs to someone - lets get it home whoever it is. Fingers crossed it is Florence though. I thought the article in the express was rather good, shame there has been some backlash from reviewers . The comment further on in the paper about how theft should be taken more seriously really does help and echos what we've all been trying to say for years now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry about delay in posting-so many phone calls and leads on several dogs coming in. UPDATE: Thanks to our helpers-of which some are dog owning policemen(who can get through to central control!) 3 reports of a Bearded Collie at this location have been reported into Suffolk police-they have not found the dog but no one has reported a similar dog missing-so local helpers are going to monitor the area. Unfortunately Florences family had a call this afternoon arranging a "meet" for their dog-no one turned up-a hoax, how cruel! Local helpers and Journalists have been made aware of a suspicious white saloon car in the area of Nonsuch park with 2 rough looking youths-one reported incident of them approaching a ladies dog wanting to give it biscuits and asking too many questions. Local helpers are doing a door to door leaflet drop in the hope that some one may have been suspicious enough to have noted a Registration number. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The Chihuahua Meetup organised for this Sunday has become a meeting of everyone who is concerned about the safety of their dog. From Paris Hilton look-alikes to staffies and mongrels, there is a growing industry in the UK and Ireland in dog trading and extortion for rewards. I saw Lionel on This Morning and it broke my heart to see him in such distress. Am praying that she is returned to you soon. I can only imagine what you all must be going through. I know what a state I was in when I took my two dogs down to Luton to visit my boyfriend and I was followed and shouted at from a car, the person wanted to buy my dogs from me. It scared me so much the dogs went back to my Mums and when they visit now I don't/won't go out with them on my own. Big hugs to you all, keep the faith. This wonderful site has found so many dogs and with all the extra pairs of eyes that the TV appeals have generated hopefully she will be back safe and sound soon. I'm a fair distance from where she was taken but will keep my eyes peeled when I'm out and about in Luton and Milton Keynes, you never know where these nasty people who steal other peoples posessions might be. lots of love to you all Noo Noo Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lionel, Susan and Matt, (we are all being rather familiar now we know who you are).Thankyou for mentioning Doglost whilst you talk of Florence, the more people who look on the website the more chance there is of getting more of our babies home with us. There are many people on the Doglost website who know your pain. Seeing you appealing on TV brings back the anguish of when my Dolly first went missing (6.2.05). Your pain is so raw and it hurts to see it and I cried because I remembered that raw pain so very well. Please know that everyone on the Doglost website, both those who have lost dogs and those who try to help find missing dogs - the people with angels in their souls - are supporting you in every way they can and willing Florence home to you. I realy do believe that you will get Florence back soon. It's just a matter of getting through the days until you do. As for the breed mix-ups, I've had calls about Beardy's, Spaniels, Old English SD to almost any black and white dog mistaken for my missing (Border)collie cross (10.10.05)! Don't be too quick to rule out any such possibilities until you've actually seen them! Good luck and hang in there! Jo.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a thought - Paddy have you got a pop up blocker on your computer stopping the PM system working? Great publicity for Florence... fingers crossed for her. I bet she's sleeping by someone's fire all warm and snug unaware of the fuss - but lets make sure she's home by her own fire very soon. Helpers keep postering the area - we all know the power of the poster: as we always say - the dogs are somewhere and someone somewhere HAS seen her - we just need to find them to get Florence back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've mailed a load of friends and dog trainers who reguarly dog walk both in the Park and in the area and who will no doubt keep their eyes open. The Park sits between the boroughs of Epsom and Ewell and Sutton and is spreads between Cheam, North Cheam, and Ewell. So I'd say publicity in any of those areas would be worthwhile. Are there travellers in the area at the moment? They hit the area when the racing is on at Epsom. But with any luck she'll be found before any more needs to be done...fingers crossed!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Matt, I think it would be a good idea to mention Florence's ears on the poster. People will often dump a dog that will run up bills at the vets. I'll change it when I get your OK.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I should also mention that Florence needs to see a vet quite regularly as she has Otitis in both of her ears. Another thing to look out for is that when she is stressed, she tends to gnaw at her paws and they end up look pink, raw and patchy at the base of her paws. She did this a lot when we had builders in everyday. If she's under stress now, I believe she would do this. Thanks everyone. MattLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Matt, you need to contact the newsdesks at the Epson, Ewell & Banstead Post on 01737 732000; The Epsom Guardian on 020 8646 6336 (they also publish the Sutton Guardian and the South London Guardian); Sutton Advertiser on 020 8763 6666. Stress Florence's age and the family. Elderly people and children help a lot. Keep the story simple but tug at the heart-strings.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was out and about in Banstead today, didn't put up posters as not that close but did give a picture to people who live in Epsom/Cheam area and asked them to pass on to family and friends. Fingers Crossed. I did call into the pet shop in the high street and got the number for Epsom Canine Rescue, it is 01883 334 515, it said to call in the evenings. They may not have Florence but they may be able to give advise about other contacts. I am working in the Epsom area on Sunday so will do the same. I was wondering if it was worth giving a picture to the local vets as she is chipped and asking them to scan any dogs who look like Florence coming into their surgury. Its just that if Florence has been with the owners for 10 years then surely she is likely to pine and if she has been sold on to nice people they may want to get her checked over. Just a thought. This is not the first time I have heard of a dog going missing from Nonsuch. Matt - can you quickly get round to all the local pubs in the area of Nonsuch with a poster? The more dubious the pub looks, the better. It may be she has been sold on fairly quickly. Presumably she's a fairly large dog bearing in mind her cross so wouldn't be that easy to hide away for a long period of time and she's very distinctive. Get postering helpers!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone, My mother is mainly Florence's owner, but obviously it's hit our whole family pretty hard. I just want to thank everyone for their support and kind words. I had some problems with the computer , so apologies for taking a while to get this message to you all. I should also mention that the photo isn't as recent as we'd have liked. She had just been trimmed about a week prior to her dissappearance, so she definately looks less shaggy than in the picture at the moment. If you have any questions, please ask. Thank you all again. clipped beardies can have this texture coat too. Your right about not looking like pippen. My dogs don't look like pippen, pippen in more like a tibetian terrier but because they are shaggy people instantly say it. It really depends on how kowledgeable a person is on their breeds I have a shop lots of people come in every day i get ask if their old english, border collies, all sorts in fact very few say ahh bearded collies. i can assure you it staggers me what they come out with. People bring there kids in my shop just to see pippen!!! (pippen is currently very popular on cbeebies come out side program) i can't see it myself but there we go. Have just picked up email. I work in the area and am out and about in Epsom, Banstead or Ewell most days so will certainly keep at look out. I will also print off the picture and hand it to work mates and ask them to keep an eye out too. I often see adverts in the local pet shop windows from Espom Canine Rescue. They advertise to rehome dogs that have been made homeless or old lost strays. It may be worth giving them a call, if not already done. Have not got the number but can get it if needed. I am new to this so anything else I can do please let me know. I do hope Florence is safely home soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Phoned round a couple of people to keep their ears to the ground. Beardie crosses are often miss identified i.e the dog is a tibetian terrier or border collie but we still get the call. Florence may have no beardie in her at all but I do think a kennels would think beardie x. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what her breeding is she looks a fantastic dog and I just hope her breed catogory change will get her home sooner. Did something scare her, was she stolen. Is this picture correct! when I saw it I thought it was a bearded collie I know it says staffy cross collies but I wouldn't say Staffy was the dogs main breed. when I saw the picture on the home page I was really struggling to find a discription of this dog in the latest dogs lost for today. the picture maybe unclear or i'm not looking properly. but if i sighted or found that dog I would not search dogs lost under Staffy, collie maybe but not staffy. I think also tibetian terrier is a good description too. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
