Still thinking of you - it must be so hard not knowing. SueXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It has been almost a year now since we lost our lovely boy and not a day go's by when we do not think of him. We never got to the bottom of it all, there where rumours that he had been shot by a farmer but this was denied and we where led to think that it was malicious information. It is the not knowing that is hardest as you still have hope that he is out there somewhere. But then you worry that if he is still alive is he being well treated. We took on Louis a petit that was looking for a home as Daisy was in such a depressed state without rupert and he has settled in brilliantly and is loved and spoiled to bits. If anyone has ever heard anymore we would love to hear from you. xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Come on Rupert - there's a new member of your Family who can't wait to meet you ! I know Rupert is microchipped - just a thought , have you seen Dolly's Directive? (Updated in the Red Section here on the 26/02/06 Terrier Jack Russell Bitch SN26).Candy and others are working so hard to get missing Dogs out there scanned once found that may have a microchip to help them get home.Just an idea.Take care.JxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No more news on rupe's I'm afraid, we haven't given up all hope but it has been a long while now. Still missing him terribly. Daisy is eating well again now and has actually put on some weight as she is no longer having to run so hard to keep up with Rupert. She still sits on the stairs looking out of the window for him, so do I!!! Thanks for all of your thoughts. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I emailed Rose and Yvonne (Club Sec) when Rupert first when missing, but there'd be no harm in contacting her again SuzeeBee. You obviously know that so many kennels haven't got a clue when a grand or petit turns up, never mind the public.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry Karen that this was not Rupert, thought it was a long shot, but so many people would not recognise a Grand. I have two petits and know how they love to go off on a hunt if given half a chance. Hope you have some news on this lovely boy soon. I am too far away to help with postering (suffolk) but if there is anything I can do just shout. Does Rose Phillips ( B.G.V. Rescue )know about Rupert ?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Having confronted the farmer it would appear that the phone call we received teling us that Rupert had been shot two days after we lost him and left to rot in a pile of manure on the farm may have been a hoax. We have established that our lovely caller had a grudge against the farmer as he had been caught stealing diesel from the farm with court action taken. We now feel that we went through all that upset but remain unsure as to what has happended to our lovely Rupert. Thanks for all of your emails, Karen, Gregg and Daisy x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rupert's owner has just emailed me to say that they are still trying to establish whether the call was genuine or whether they had a grudge against the farmer - who is still denying it. What a dreadful thing to happen. So sorry for Ruperts owners. I won't say what i think of the farmer -i know some very nice ones locally but I also know that helpers on this site know a lot about the law & what people can & can't do.. It will never bring Rupert back but pressure on right people can get laws changed. I would have thought at very least that he had to report it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the clarification Microchip Now. I don't know the circumstances here, although GBV don't normally go for birds - they're far more interested in bunnies and foxes. However they will go for deer, but sheep tend to run the moment they see them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm so very sorry - if this is true then it is sad and the farmer is a t best a coward, at worst.......? the legal side of things is Section 1 of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 makes it an offence for a dog to be at large, ?that is to say not on a lead or otherwise under close control?, in a field or enclosure containing sheep. It is also an offence for dogs to attack or chase livestock, and farmers are permitted to shoot dogs that are worrying, or are about to worry, farm animals. This is outlined in the Animals Act 1971 section 9, which also states that the farmer is not liable to compensate the dog?s owner in such circumstances. as far as I know pheasants are livestock if on an esatate that breeds them. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm not sure of the law here, but if the farmer should have reported this and didn't, and also denied it when confronted, he is not only evil, but a coward as well. Presumably he knew he was on a sticky wicket if the dog wasn't worrying livestock. If this "man" holds a licence let the person responsible for issuing shotgun licences see this thread and question whether one should have been issued here (or renewed when the time comes!) Owners, I'm so sorry that this should have happened - can't find the right words. Sweet dreams Rupert. Eve xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Karen, what's the latest? Any news at all? Have you seen anything in the local papers? One thing we find with PBGVs is that they are often mistaken for crossbreeds - have you widened your search area to cover other local rescues/pounds and checked all possible descriptions of dogs, no matter how odd they sound? If you can get me postcodes for neighbouring areas i'll get rach to do a mailshot out to those - can you get me the biggest towns in say the next 20 mile radius? Dee xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
