I have just noticed today on the BBC news website: Northern Ireland region, about a puppy farm that has just been raided in Katesbridge, County Down. There were some Dobermans mentioned, and the USPCA are now looking after the dogs.Perhaps the owners of all the stolen dogs should contact them directly. Good Luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

19sarah86, I saw the pups advertised on Epupz in Carmarthenshire as well, I presume they are the same ones you mentioned. I sent details to Jayne a couple of weeks again who passed them on to the owner but presume these drew a blank as no news since. Just a different view on this..how easy is it for somene in the know regarding dobermans to have stolen these puppies and used thier own kennel club affix to sell these puppies on...and tell the new owners their kc names been applied for and will be forwarded at a later date...some breeders do not apply for kc papers straight away...and on a lighter note a pet owner who had a accidental mating will not have 20 puppies for sale at one said time...20 puppies plus the adult bitches who if put together fight need more than a average house to accomodate them...has anyone a address for a animal rights organisation who may very well be involved in this..As for the police well im appalled no crime number no insurance and it hasnt rained so any finger prints etc will still be there..at the least the police could of called out soco to check for any evidence or passed it onto the CID to follow up...pollyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just seen Jayne's message that the local "Police Force" have not even issued a crime number for this theft - scandalous - they need a fire lit under them ... and the two addresses needed to action that are 1) the Independent Police Complaints Commission (http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/), 2) local MPs/Councillors (http://www.writetothem.com/) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have the vets around Wales been notified-this amount of pups needing innoculations should raise questions. I'm amazed that no-one has seen or noticed the equivilent of a puppy class at Crufts disappering. Some-one must know where they are. People just don't come home with this amount of dogs. Have any papers further afield run the story? Wales is an easy place to get to-they could well be out of the area. If enough publicity occurs they may have 2nd thoughts & ring if only to get a reward. What is this country coming to-really makes you wonder. I looked in disbelief at the amount of dogs been stolen in general. This site really has opened my eyes-. Really hope you hear something soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can the owners not take a look at the puppies that have been handed in at many tears just to safe guard who ever adopts these babies eventually. This isnt a opportunist theft this has been well thought out the place must of been watched.lots of factors here where the police need to sit up and listen..all my dogs have been kept indoors for over 12mths now same when i have a litter.the same as Wizpom It is a worry, but my dogs live indoors, are hardly ever left without supervision and I don't live in an isolated location.I think all big breeders of any dogs should be made aware of what is happening to our precious babiesLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is a worry, but my dogs live indoors, are hardly ever left without supervision and I don't live in an isolated location. However, I am being extra careful these days, as are many of my dog friends. The lady whose Poms were stolen has no immediate neighbours and that must have contributed largely to her dogs being made a prime target for what must have been an organized theft. If this is not a crime ... nothing is! I have only recently registered as a helper but am shocked at how many references there are to the indifference shown by the police regarding dog theft. I intend writing to an MP regarding this apparent complacency as this sort of attitude fails to take into account the stress and trauma suffered by those who have lost their dogs and the welfare of the dogs themselves. Sometimes, years of endeavour and devotion to breeding are wiped out in one fell swoop and treasured dogs are left in the hands of goodness knows who ! A shoplifter could be arrested for stealing a packet of cornflakes!!!! I'm not condoning that but there is no comparison in the enormoty of the crime. My son lives in Pontardulais and I have asked him to put up notices and spread the word around in the college where he works. I will take some notices to my Vets who have a number of Surgeries in the Llantrisant, and Bridgend areas. Three weeks ago a fellow Pom enthusiast from the Midlands has 7 Poms stolen and there has been no positive news so far. It is since then that my eytes have been opened to the extent of what is going on and the efforts being made by DogsLost and its army of helpers. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to add that the stolen pups and bitches are more likely to be dumped somewhere rather than being handed in to a rescue organisation. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm inclined to agree with Chris (doggroomer), How do they know for definate that this was a genuine owner? It's a bit coincidental that they suddenly appear in rescue when a litter has been stolen. I think this lead needs to be officially checked by the police or maybe the owner could go and have a look - the pictures on many tears website are not very clear. If they were unable to go in person, better pictures could be possibly emailed to them for them to see. I am hoping for a happy ending (not enough of those about at the moment). That's a bit of a coincidence. How can they be sure the owners were really the owners. I'd go as high as possible through the police ranks until they did take this seriously. If they won't take this huge theft seriously, what chance is there for anyone with 1 or 2 missing? They're paid to solve crime and they're not doing it. Sorry, this makes my blood boil. I suggest the owners get BACK onto the Police, IMMEDIATELY and explain that if they are refusing to investigate a theft of this nature (when there is clear evidence in the form of blood etc which would help secure a conviction) then they (owners) will be coming down to the station to collect a signed statement from the persons in charge on this shift to that effect in order that they may circulate it within 24 hours to the local and national press, and the local and national news networks. For goodness sakes, DO NOT let the police get away with this - the best chance of these dogs being found is to make them too hot to handle - TWENTY NINE dogs is HUGELY newsworthy and will get giant publicity - IF the police will just admit it is a crime. Come on, get shirty - we pay their wages.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A lot of travellers come to England for the summer and go back to Ireland in the autumn/winter. If there are a number of caravans and split the dogs between them it probably wouldn't be noticable when they go on the boat. It's not as if the pups are not with their mothers, although I suppose the pups are old enough to be taken from their parents now. ChrisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I too thought about puppy farms and activists, but it certainly seems that the owners care about their dogs. Are the owners really hassling the police? Apart from anything else, this is a very valuable cargo. They would be there at least going through the motions for a property theft - but, they will probably say DNA evidence is now too old - has it been raining down there? Also with the blue pick up link, they even have something to go on. I think you must insist on a crime number - or it will go unrecorded. We must all watch out for dobermans for sale - what on earth do they intend to do with so many I wonder. Good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I really hope all these dogs get home safe and sound very soon. The transport thing does seem odd but like 'Kerioak' said, a possibility is that the adult dogs were sedated with something. One must turn up soon....and hopefully lead to the rests safe return. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is the barn near to the house. I know if anyone comes within a few feet of my house/kennel at least one of my dogs creates and starts barking sometimes i know all is well but at other times i have too look.My dogs bark even at neighbours and relatives..so did these dobies owner not hear anything very unusual for a bitch with puppies not to be very vocal.pity there is no cctv with a large breeder like they must be security is paramount and costs very little to install....pollyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jayne I don't usually like speculating but I have been thinking about the transport side of it. The pups would not take up much room - maybe a couple of crates. If the adults had been sedated with something like ACP then they would have been easier to handle - and quiet. Some of the adult bitches have dewclaws which is still fairly unusual in Dobes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Baileys mum, one dog was left behind she had been released from pen and was found distressed by owner in the morning. As for transport it appears to have only been one vehicle which beggers belief for 29 dogs of which the bitches have to be kept seperate else they will fight-the whole thing does not seem to make sense at all!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please dont think Im getting at owners. Im not. My own dog was from a breeder. There just seemed an awful lot of dogs in the one place. Anyway, the theives must have known that these all these dogs were there, and how many. Transport would of had to be arranged for 29 dogs - not easy. Were any dogs left behind? I feel that it must be someone who has visited these dogs. Knows where they were kept and came prepared (with collars!) The police have got to get involved in this. DNA can be taken from blood samples. I really hope and pray that these dogs are all found and returned safely very soon. Im in Scotland, but if there is anything I can do, please contact me...xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

In answer to Baileys mum-4 people visited the kennels and 3 reserved puppies-owner rang the three who were concerned-indeed upset at the theft of their puppies but the 4th put the phone down on owner and had left no contact address-owner has approached orange to get the details. The 4th was a man who said he had just got back from Iraq-on asking around another local breeder had a visit from a man claiming to have just come back from Iraq, this man is driving a blue mitsubishi pick up and says he is from the Forest Fach area of Swansea. We had several dogs stolen from South Wales earlier in the year and in some cases a Blue Mitsubishi pick up was noted at the scene-that is why we are suspicious.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I to had the idea about being a puppy farm and directly asked the owner who said no. I also went and visited the barn where the dogs were kept and although I keep my dogs in the house, the barn was clean with new holding pens and clean bowls and no smell. I feel what we have here is someone who has only just decided to start breeding and has learnt the hard way. What ever our feelings are about breeders at the end of the day doglost is about finding missing and stolen dogs-the welfare of dogs is another issue which can be handled by those with more experience in this field. The fact that the owner welcomed the TV cameras would be unusual if they had something to hide. I warned the owner that he may have a backlash due to the publicity and all he wants is his dogs back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is just awful!! So many dogs and puppies stolen. I assume this is a breeder and NOT a puppy farm. Forgive me for mentioning this, but IF it were a puppy farm they could have been stolen as a form of protest. I hope they are all found safe and well very quickly!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am speechless about this senseless act. I had my puppy stolen and it tore my world apart, to have 20 and there parents is just awful! I am thinking of the owners! the B*****s who did this need shooting! Hope they are all found safe and well! Jake 21.10.05 xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Baileys Mom - I had also thought along similar lines so you are not the only one. I feel that to take so many dogs they had to be an organised group. To go in and steal adult Dobermans and Rotties they must have been very confident around that type of dogs. I'd be wary of just one or two of those breeds as I don't know them. I know Travellers have been mentioned but I just wonder if that would really have been the case. However I doagree with the line of thought that Ireland would be a probable destination for these dogs as once over the water they would be easier to move round with no questions asked. Unfortunately if you know the right (or in this case wrong) sort of people this can be done. I really hope for the sake of these dogs that they are found safe and well soon. I've passed it on to anyone I think might be able to help - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi baileysmum i had the same thoughts, but however after sitting back and thinking logically as i do sometimes..i know lots of breeders in my own breed that have larger kennels than i have and its not un heard of these people keeping several show bitches as well as brood bitches so at any one time a larger kennel could have the same amount of puppies..and these people are not classed as puppy farmers. so having that thought i passed on the puppy farmer theory....pollyxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I presume the owners have had people enquiring about pups. Everybody will need to contacted and verified. The people that stole these dogs knew they were there and how many were there. I have to ask for my own peace of mind, and I dont want to offend anybody, but is this definitely a reputable breeder, could theives think they were rescuing dogs??? (maybe thinking it was a farm!). Please dont all jump on me, had to ask, it has been niggling at me all day.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Am unsure as to just how many dogs have been stolen, is it twenty pups and x amount of adults? Are they from show breeding kennels? the thieves must have had a fair amount of time in which to remove so many dogs. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners should try the Local Council and ask for the location of the travellers and where there usual sites are. They tend to have 5 or 6 placses where they move to and if they have children in the area they won't leave the area Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I SPOKE, JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO TO FREIND IN A HIGH UP PUBLIC SERVICES JOB, WHO INFORMED ME OF 'TRAVELLERS' IN THE SWANSEA AREA, AND THAT NUMEROUS DOGS IN SOUTH WALES WERE BEING STOLEN BY WHO THEY SUSPECT TO BE THESE TRAVELLERS, BUT ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT'S TRYING TO CATCH THEM THAT'S THE PROBLEM! Will put posters up in all areas, shops, pet shops and vets, in area, Is there anybody out there in N. Ireland, or does anyone know anyone in N Ireland who can hopefull keep a lookout and distribute to same kind of places there. HOPE U HAVE SOME NEWS SOON. Would check all newspapers in all areas and check out every type of dog like this for sale, would make out that am interested in buying one and go to see if they were mine.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Initial report gave 17 black, 2 brown and 1 blue pup (blue is a steel-grey colour that generally have poor coats in adulthood so not deliberately bred for). Pups are docked and de-dewclawedLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with Polly and think Ireland is a strong possibility. Can we email ports etc? As for the police - have nothing much to say Im afraid. If we were talking a couple of paintings, they would be crawling around gathering evidence but 20 pups plus dogs???!!!!! - no chance! And they wonder why the public are so disillusioned! This is organised crime for gods sake! Sorry for rant. Will do anything I can to help xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi reply to vals posting dobes being popular in USA ..i cant see these dogs getting the paper work involved in exporting dogs..but having said that Northern Ireland could be a better option as you dont need a doggy passport there..Southern ireland yes..where is the nearest ferry to this theft...pollyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Responsding to J Mo - I wonder if it would be possible to put adverts in pubications such as free ads - these are available on the internet and most adverts are free. Could put something along lines of STOLEN and a little bit about the pups and possibly a contact email/phone number if anyone has any suspisions or recently been offered a pup. If this is OK, I subscribe to free ads and I could put an advert in for you - or Dogs Lost could do it officially it's easy to register and the adverts will show if a search is put in for either dogs or under the specific breed. You would need to advertise under wanted and offered. It's so annoying, the Police just seem so unable to do anything or can't be bothered to do anything - my dogs are like my children - if they went missing I don't know what I'd do. Hope these babies show up soon. Will be keeping an eye out in local papers, I'm in Kent but thats not far really. joLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

May be worth going into local schools, check with post persons, and some of the small pet shops incase any one remembers having sold lots of dog food, etc. - I really do hope you get you babies back, I would love to write what I really did think of scum like this, but there would be to many *****. I am in South London, but will try and alert as many of my family in South Wales.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners should check the local press in the pets for sale columns and also also poster all local pet shops and newsagents in case they are advertised for sale. Hope they are all found soon. Is there any way you can advertise on the internet that these are stolen so that the site appears if anyone looks for puppies for sale. they may be cross checked this way and any potential owner may find out that they are stolen.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

All helpers in South Wales have been e mailed the poster. Thanks Polly for e mailing Breeders and also to Doberman rescue who are also alerting their list. have just got back from the owner in Wales where we filmed the evidence-footprints,bloody finger prints etc-surprisingly the police say there is not enough eveidence to suggest theft! Despite doors being forced and tyre marks and 2 slip collars being left behind which are not owners!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
