This is the update from the police:
We have been to 4 traveller sites in the Deptford area and searched them for Mac. We have not been able to find him there. I am waiting for a list of registration numbers from the market in Catford to see if one comes back to Dave in the Rochester area.

I am waiting for these, and will chase them up at the earliest opportunity.

Yes that's her bashfulbailie please keep your options open and don't automatically think that everything she says is the truth because it isn't. Stella has changed her story so many times i've lost count. She started off evasive, then defensive and then all of a sudden (over a weekend bearing in mind, so assured she had enough time to think about a story)she said she gave him to a man, why didn't she say that to begin with. She thought maybe i'll just mention my friend dying and then maaybe they'll back off. Well that ain't my style. And Sue couldn't you tell from her body language that she's a liar. All that scratching the back of her head, continuous blinking and looking behind her. I thought it was weird also how the 2 men immediately went near me to try to listen to what i was saying on the phone. They are hiding things too. I'll know more when i speak to the police next week.

Reg is BT05 ZTY i know it by heart now. It's a van that comes from IRELAND
Stroodsue
yes bashfull that is the lady Stella, I have spoken to her, not in the last 2 weeks BUT she told me that she'd handed the dog to a chap on the same day who she thought was the owner.. Aisha said that is/was all lies.. I don't know, Aisha has gone off the radar a bit now, I don't know what is being done to find Mac now?
She posted on FB no news.
I'm afraid I can't do much without advise and requests from the owner. :(

Hello, folks on the facebook page are interested in any information....
Helperjux-SE-London/Kent
Hiya bashfulbailie, when your next at the market can you get the van registration and then I can see if it matches the one we already have, any chance someone could pose for a photo and get the stall holders in the background so we can get a clear shot of them!! thank you for helping xxx
bashfulbailie
I went to the Strood market on Saturday (28th July). There was a stall which sold L'Oreal items. The woman who was serving together with a man was between 45-50 (I think - not very good at telling people age), she had reddish hair tied back in a ponytail. Is this the woman aisha saw when she visited the market? Please could you let me know before tomorrow Tuesday. I will then return to the market tomorrow and get the registration number of her van.

Hi aisha, Thank you very much for the information and the woman's name. My daughter knew someone who still has a stall at Strood market on a Tuesday. I will see if she can get in touch with her and find out where Stella lives. If she has been in the market for years I cannot see her giving her stall up. I think that when things go quiet she will return. How old do you think she is and what colour hair has she got.

Hi bashfulbailie! Yes the market he went missing from is more a bootsale type i would say. Stella has a cosmetics/make up stall. A lot of L'Oreal items i noticed. And they don't exactly look Kosher! More like items she's collected in her house for years. The first time i saw her she had two men working on the stall with her. The next three times the men weren't there at all. So i think there's a good chance these men will be with her. Since they heard i was looking for Mac, i haven't seen them.
bashfulbailie
Does anyone know what type of items she was selling on her stall i.e. clothes, cakes, fruit etc. She may also be at Boot Fairs which are held around the Medway area usually on a Sunday.
aisha
If anyone is free this morning between now and 1pm and able to check out the market for me that would be great. I need the car- registration numbers again as i gave them to the police and stupidly didn't take them down for my record. Good chance she won't be there, but worth a try.
sophiesuds
If you are unable to get information from the stall holders etc in respect of the dog, can you not make up a story about something she was selling being so good and you were so pleased that you would like to contact her to purchase more? Then either leave your number or better still try and get them to divulge where she lives etc and say you have to get item urgently for someones bday and you are prepared to collect it from her etc. Sure someone would like to help the woman make some easy money - if you think others may recognise you ask a friend to enquire on your behalf.

Aisha - what about speaking to the Council's (presumably Lewisham?) Trading Standards and also telling John, the market manager that's what you intend to do. Hopefully it might mean that a few calls are made, resulting in Mac being returned to the area he was stolen from. As Clarkey has already said, it's the law to report a found dog. And what about contacting the police? Our dog was badly bitten by another dog in a local park and had to have surgery done under general anaesthetic. I made some enquires and found a very caring and well-informed police sargeant who advised me what to do and which resulted in an acceptable outcome. Afterall, although we don't like to think about our dogs as 'property', that is exactly what Mac is, a piece of YOUR property that has been STOLEN! Keeping my fingers crossed for gorgeous Mac.Last edited: 2012-07-06 18:13:43 by Millys Mum

Strood market is on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I'll put a poster up in the local dog groomers and also ask in the market tomorrow, fingers crossed someone will have seen Mac
Shelties Mum
I think it's market day today in Strood, so would be a good idea to get a poster over there - opposite B & Q etc. I can't get out at the moment and the market tends to close early afteroon. It would just be a case of taking a poster round each stall.

Ok .. so if no details are taken down .. how come? Someone has to be taking payment from the stallholders surely..would have thought there would be some sort of record somewhere if there is a market inspector. I'm thinking the dog warden would have more luck finding this out as they are obviously reluctant to help. If there are really no details taken then the other people on the market must know who this lady is.. it only takes one of those people to help you.. show them photos, talk about him .. anything to get them sympathetic. It may also be worth saying that all you want is to have Mac home safe and sound .. not to get anyone into trouble. Just keep trying. If the lady took your dog in to keep him safe, then by law she is obliged to report it to the local Dog Warden. Time to make Mac too hot to handle! That's a good idea, i never thought of that Clarkey. I asked him myself and he could say only that she was from Strood, and that she had been coming to the market for 15 years. All the stall holders seem to be in some sort of pact. You can't get anything out of them. Unfortunetly because the market is more a boot-sale, no details are taken down apparently. There could be different people every week not only the regulars. I will ring Lewisham and Strood Dog Wardens tommorow. Thanks for your advice :)Last edited: 2012-07-05 21:27:56 by aisha

Aisha ..as the market inspector knows who this person was, then he will have their name and address. If he does not feel able to give it to you then I would contact the Dog Warden again and explain the situation..they will be able to get the details from the market inspector. Hopefully then the Dog Warden would be able to pay a visit and get Mac back. Obviously you may have to supply photos, vet certificates etc for identification. Keeping everything crossed for you. I can try again on tuesday to talk to her, but the latest i've heard is that she had a 'closing down sale' right at the end. I doubt she will be there tuesday now. Yep she defo took him in, 3 different people have told me. Thanks Lorraine x

So it looks as though she def took him?! Can you speak to her again? I'd advise ringing the dog warden for the Strood area.
Chin up Aisha, your doing all the right things x
aisha
I went down to the market again today and spoke to the market manager-John, he said he spoke to the woman and she said that 'SHE HAD taken him home but she didn't say what happened next' Home meaning STROOD. Not at any point previously did she mention this information. Last edited: 2012-07-05 14:58:01 by aisha

Thanks for your comments everyone. I did'nt realise i could comment!! I'm still in shock and can't believe what happened to poor Ace. Sophie i hope you're alright. I hope Mac's ok-wherever he is. Yesterday at the market was very disappointing i thought the stall holder could tell me more info considering, that more than one witness said that SHE was 'going to take him in' I'm so confused and not sure what i could do next. Other than more posters. Julie i know where i believe Mac is but i think it's worth plastering Rochester and Strood with posters- just incase she does have a decent bone in her body, and she happens to be telling the truth.

jux- if your getting that kind of reaction maybe a 'reward for info leading to return' would help, people will always talk for money, unfortunately
ellejay
how on earth did i miss this boy, so sorry if i had known earlier i could have looked out for him as well as Ace.

Now i know i will inform friends and family, after the sad sad news about Ace, lets hope we can have a happy reunion with Mac.

DALMATIANPB
I understand that there are dog rescue centres, where dogs are taken to in Ladywell and Sevenoaks. Unfortunately I do not have any address details to hand though. It may be worth checking them out if you have not already done so.

Hi Mac's Mum - good to meet you earlier. After I got back from the market, I phoned Bromley Dog Warden again and I also pressed them on whether they had any black and tan dogs in case it was Mac, and it was a negative. So he's not in the pound. Keep on - someone is bound to know where he is and I'll make sure I ask about Mac wherever I'm asking about Ace. Love from Ace's Mum x
Helperjux-SE-London/Kent
thank you dalmationpb and everyone for sharing Ace and Mac, today i met sophie(Ace) and Aisha(Mac) at the market behind Homebase to help them look for their dogs, we had reports that a dog was running around the market last week and taken by a stall holder, 2 members of the public have told us this, but, we are not certain what day or what dog it was, there was a lot of huddling, whispering and watching us while we were there, but noone seemed to know anything hmmmm, we are not giving up that easily!!!
DALMATIANPB
I am sorry to hear this. As I did with ACE i will circulate MAC as missing amongst by Facebook contacts. I walk my dogs on a daily basis in Beckenham Place, so appreciate what you both must be going through.
Helperjux-SE-London/Kent
STILL MISSING!!!
Aisha doesnt always have internet access, so if anyone does have any information a phone call or text would be better, but I am checking on here and will pass on anything too.
I am meeting Aisha tomorrow to look around the market behind Homebase, we will be looking for Mac and Ace.
I will update tomorrow with any news and I will see you there Sophie xx

Hi - my dog also is missing form Beckenham Place Park last Wed. I've been posting about yours too on FB and Twitter. Millys Mum mentioned the market thread on here - do we know if the lady found Mac at the market or was she offered him / bought him from someone? I will go there tomorrow in case my Ace has covered the same ground. She's still missing and there have been no sightings. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=40754 thanks Sophie (Ace's Mum)

Sorry to see that MAC is missing.
If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and at the same time, check that all details held are up to date.
If you have not already done so contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, contact the Police.
Give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your own area by clicking on the green 'Find Any UK Vet' graphic near the top right hand side of the page under the 'latest missing dogs' photo.
A photograph of your dog is essential - if you have not already uploaded a picture, please do so by clicking on 'Update Details' above, or you can email admin@doglost.co.uk with a photo of your dog, quoting the dog's DogLost ID number. You can also add comments and update your dog's status by clicking on the title bar at the top of the comments list. You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments.
You can obtain a 'MISSING' poster by clicking on 'View Poster' above. POSTERS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Start postering now!
If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, they can be re-homed legally after 7 days, so please try to visit rescue centres to look for your dog and give them a poster. Do not rely on checking by phone alone, as other people may not recognise your dog by your description.
Please keep us updated by keeping your dogs page up to date and check for posts from helpers that may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings.
If your dog has been stolen please inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN) for the theft.
DogLost is free – anyone asking for money to return your dog is not working for us, and may offer fake photos as 'proof'. If you think we may have called you but aren't sure, please contact us on the phone number or email address at the top of our homepage.
