So pleased to see her back and sounds a typical spooky sheltie. Maybe a lunge rein to start with on the walks and with another dog?

This is an enormous but very inadequate Thank You to everybody who has helped in any way in the search for Lottie - Barbara has been absolutely wonderful - initially making sure all the relevant organisations would know Lottie was missing, acting as the centre for information & passing on messages, she & Janet walked miles with me on Friday & she has also spent a lot of time trying to keep me calm! No easy task under the circumstances.

Losing your beloved Sheltie is one of the worst things that can happen to you but their ability to find their way back to their home area is amazing. She was very close to home for a couple of days & it was so frustrating that she would not come to us or walk the last short distance home as she knew exactly where she was. I went out again Friday afternoon & luckily she was back down in the 'home' area but still wouldn't come. However she must have followed us at a distance as she appeared on The Green having been chased across the very busy road by a large Labrador. She seems in remarkably good condition - very dirty & her hair cut is not exactly the latest fashion! She is still very tired & eating heartily. She gets very worried if she sees a lead & thinks she might be going out - not likely at the moment.

I cannot thank the people at Dog Lost enough - they are all volunteers & their advice and support has been invaluable. I was very surprised & delighted to meet our local volunteer Rosemary Frew & her Sheltie Jake walking the area at dusk on Thursday & on Friday evening I got a call from Helen Jermy the Norfolk & Suffolk Area Co-ordinator to say she had just been going to leave Lowestoft to bring down a trap when she heard from Rosemary that Lottie was back That was a very kind thought as traffic on a Friday night is awful.

Lottie & I can never thank all of you enough.

Best wishes
Gill.

Welcome home Lottie xx

Just had a call from Gill to say Lottie was in the kitchen! Gill had been out this afternoon and seen her in a field back nearer to the house. She moved towards Lottie but she ran off, so she sat down with the dogs while Lottie watched from the other side of the field. She then disappeared into the trees and Gill went over to look but couldn’t see her. Eventually she decided to go back home and go out in the evening.

Someone knocked on her door just about ten minutes ago to ask if the dog standing on the village green was hers, she looked out and it was Lottie. Gill called her and she just ambled across to the house looking very tired but she wouldn’t go in the front door until Gill stood away from it. So after a very traumatic few days for both Gill and Lottie, she’s back, covered in burs and mud, but well.

Gill asked me to thank everyone for their messages, help and suggestions, she has appreciated everyone’s concerns and thoughts, she just needs to have a stiff drink and then go to bed because she is mentally and physically exhausted.

So thank you again everyone

Can Gill lay on the floor and whimper or cry when Lottie is in sight? Hope this helps xxx

A message from Barbara via the sheltie forum:
We’ve had quite a frustrating day today. Gill went out very early this morning but didn’t see her. Then Gill, Janet and I, plus Gill’s three Shelties left Gill’s house at 10.00. We had walked along the farm track which is where Gill walks the dogs every day and we saw Lottie in the distance further along the track when we had been walking for about 10 minutes. Janet spotted her through the field glass and she was just sniffing around. So we tried to make Gill’s dogs bark, but although they don’t stop at home, they had no inclination to do it on a walk!! We did eventually get one to bark and Lottie looked back in our direction and stood looking. So we turned around and walked the other way hoping that she would follow which of course she didn’t.

We then carried on in the direction we started and she kept in front a good distance away, then we lost sight. We came to a place where the track split and in front of us was a huge field with potatoes just beginning to grow, she was in the middle of this and we could see her easily. She was heading away from Tuddenham so we decided we needed to split up, walk up either side of the field and try to head her back towards home. Just then the farmer came along in his four wheel drive, so we told him our problem and he could see Lottie in the distance. So he told us to get in, and he took us in a circle so that we ended up behind her. We came over a ridge and there she was, 10 feet from the car (if that), so we got out and Janet walked in an arc behind Lottie and I waited to see where she would go, but she took one look at us and trotted off in the direction we didn’t want her to go. She doesn’t run, she just trots at a fast pace which is very frustrating, but we had to leave her because she was heading towards the road, one place we didn’t want her to go.

We then came home and decided that the only way we can get her is a trap because she will not respond to people at all. In fact the more people that she sees the more she panics and goes off. We know where she is, so we don’t really need people to look for her now, Gill doesn’t think it will help to have loads of people looking, so it seems we need a trap from somewhere. The dog warden doesn’t care less, so someone mentioned a trap on this list, it may have been Rosemary.

Gill is going out tonight when we hope it will be quiet with few people about, although we only saw the farmer today. It is a popular area for dog walkers so the weekend might give us some problems as there will be more people around. There are pigs in one of the fields and it is easy for Lottie to slip through the fence and help herself to the complete food they feed the pigs – she didn’t look stressed or injured, just determined not to look a human in the eye!

Frustrating or what!!
BaileyP
Great news that Lottie is so close to home. I really hope that she makes it tonight. I am very happy top pop up on Saturday if you need an extra pair of eyes but I don't want to scare her away. I shall wait to see what you decide. Good luck. Xx

So very close now, just hoping and praying Lottie is brave enough to come home xx
rosemary
Hi my dinner was cancelled, I went out with my sheltie to walk the tracks, I saw Gill and her brother, Lottie is soooo close to home it is amazing that she isn't there yet. Gill wants to thank everyone for all their help and asks that that people do not go in large groups now. Lottie is so close, Gill is worried that large numbers will drive her backwards, at the same time she doesn't want to appear ungrateful. From seeing where she was sighted it is astonishing she didn't make the last hurdle during the Wednesday night, still lets hope tonight is more fruitful. Gill left some food along the footpath for her.

Great there's been another sighting and she is still in the area.....I'm wondering if when it is quiet at dusk she may be brave enough to find home. Any chance of having a BBQ (can get disposable ones) as the smell would travel for miles and may entice her in and you can leave the cooked food for her in the garden....
rosemary
Message from Barbara Gill has been out all afternoon and they saw Lottie, very close to home but there was a noisy person just in front who shouted and Lottie cleared off again. Janet Sycamore and I will go there tomorrow morning with Gill’s other dogs who are staying with us, so that might help Lottie to relax a bit.
rosemary
I think she is rather well known in the sheltie world, she will be aware at least of the uksheltie forum as she is quite friendly with Barbara (Felthorns). Scenting advice has been emailed courtesy of Helen.
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
I suspect you are right that Lottie is not too far away. Have you tried scenting from the reported sighting spot to home? As a breed they are very intelligent and survivors. Shall contact Sheltie Lady to get on to her forums. Fingers crossed xxx

No overnight news. Gill stayed up until midnight with the front door open, she left a bed and food in the front garden and also in the garage, but no luck. She went down at 4.00 a.m. some food gone but no Lottie, so it was probably a neighbourhood cat.

She is going out again all day today but she is still convinced that Lottie is very near home, because last night’s sighting was 1/4 mile away from her house. So she’ll try again in the familiar area where she walks.
rosemary
The area which Lottie has been sighted is still near Ridgeons but over and around the fields/woods on the map it is between Warren Road and Herringswell. There is a track which links these two and Lottie seems to have been seen mostly along or around this track.

Herrinsgwell is very close to Tuddenham perhaps only about 1 mile or so as crow flies. She has put bedding and food by her door in case Lottie should come home. The food had gone in the morning but it could have been cats.

She has expressed her most sincere thanks to everyone

Apparently Lottie's ears are pricked

Hope Lottie makes it home soon. Shared on easterndogscene and facebook.

Thank you BaileyP, you are quite right diluted urine is the best way to scent an area. Thank you for offering to help search too x

Scenting instructions have been E-mail to Rosemary (who is in contact with the owner) and also to the owner's friend.
If Lottie is trying to make her way home it would also be a good idea if the owner can leave a way open for her with food and bedding. Not always possible especially if the owner has more than one dog.
BaileyP
Very pleased Lottie has been sighted. Could her owner scent the area to try to keep her nearby (doglost suggest spraying ....wait for it......urine around). Also items of owners clothing. I know it's hard to pinpoint an exact spot but might be worth an educated guess.

I can come up on Saturday for a while if anyone would like help. Please post on here or email me bridgetsgjamieson@btinternet.com.

Message from a friend: I’ve just spoken to Gill (owner) and Lottie was spotted in the next village (Herrinsgwell) this evening. A lady was just walking round a corner and bumped into her, so Lottie took fright and ran the other way! Gill went out again, but there was no sign. However, it is on the route which Gill takes when she walks the dogs and she is convinced that Lottie is making her way home because she knows the area very well. The only concern about that is the road which runs through the village is quite busy, but we’ll just have to keep fingers crossed on that one. So we can just hope that she’ll arrive back on her own. This will be the best way for her because with her temperament as it is, if anyone challenged her, even Gill, she would take flight again I think.

Thank you Rosemary for the update.
Is there any where that food could be left for Lottie in a quiet place to hopefully keep her in the area?

Bumped due to this latest sighting, come on Lottie it's time you were home xxx
rosemary
Lottie was sighted by Pat about 5.30pm this evening who followed her down a track but lost her in the woods, the track follows through to Herringswell, but Lottie didn't come out where Pat did. The farmer has seen her a few times too. I am going over again tonight.
kaladancer
sadly not as far as i am aware..... where she was sighted yesterday - is surrounded by large open fields, woods, etc.... People are kindly going out and walking or driving round looking for her . everything crossed for a happy outcome...

Message from Barbara: When I told Paula she was sighted by Ridgeons, she said it sounds as though she is making her way home because she is heading away from Red Lodge and going towards Tuddenham – I just hope she sticks to the fields and doesn’t go near the main roads.

Thank you Rosemary, if any of the "sheltie clan" could E-mail a photo of Lottie or a dog of very similar likeness that would be good so we can get the E-mail alerts out, as I understand that the owner's friend is out searching.
My E-mail address is c.jermy@tiscali.co.uk

Jane - Baileyp and Sheldray are from the sheltie "clan". I now have so many windows open in case someone reports something to facebook, ukshelties forum, and all4shelties - so if there is any news before I go over I will let you know. Julie is going over with her sons and dog when they have finished school. I have to wait for husband to come home home then I will go and poster and search.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
That's good news she has been seen in the area, thank you BaileyP for updating us, hopefully she will be home very soon x
BaileyP
That is Ridgeons Depot at Red Lodge.   The lady she was staying with is going to go around the area with her Sheltie.   At least we know she hasn’t gone out of the area.
BaileyP
According to a sheltie forum Lottie has been sighted at Ridgeons. Leaning on a fence exhausted. I have asked the sheltie forum to keep this page updated too. If they don't then I will do it. X

The lady I spoke to said she should beable to sort one out, but in the mean time I will find a "similar dog" photo to add to Lottie's page so at least we can get E-mail alerts out to our helpers.
I can always change it to Lottie's photo if we receive one x
BaileyP
I have emailed the PR dept at AHT and sent the link to this page. It seems that it will be difficult to get a picture of Lottie as the lady she was staying with doesn't have one and her owner is in hospital.
Sheldray
Hi again Folks, Red Lodge is actually just south of Mildenhall, and north of Newmarket. Looking at the map i think the search needs to concentrate in the Red Lodge / Mildenhall area. Newmarket is some way away, but what does concern me is the proximity of the A11 to Red Lodge, the A11 the main road from Thetford towards London. Linda
BaileyP
I think this is near the Animal Health Trust - can someone contact them in case she appears on their land. Also any racing stables nearby. They will be out exercising horses and might see her. Sorry I can't do this at the moment myself as im at work.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Thank you BaileyP for your sound advice. Once we have a photo of Lottie I will make up posters and flyers for Lottie and E-mail them onto the owner's friend.

Sheldray thank you for broadcasting Lottie's details the more people who are aware of her the better xx
Sheldray
I work in Suffolk Police Control room and have broadcast Lotties details accross the air, and have also asked CCTV to keep their eyes peeled. The shifts change over at about 4pm so ill make sure the late turn also get the details before i leave at 5pm. Ive also spoken to the local dog warden and she has got my number and Lotties chip number.
BaileyP
There needs to be masses of posters put up all around the area. The more the better - in a wide area too. Another thing that can be done is to make flyers to post through doors in the area. It might be possible that Lottie is trying to make her way home. Shelties are good survivors when on the run but also very hard to catch. Good luck with your search. I am available on Saturday if there are any sightings. I can come up with my shelties to see if that will attract her attention.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
I have spoken to the owner's friend and Lottie has been staying with her, when she managed to slip out of the front door. Lottie is a black and white Sheltie aged 11, Lottie is nervous of strangers so if seen please call the number on the poster.
The Dog Warden and local vets have been notified and I have advised the owner's friend to contact Radio Suffolk.
I will E-mail general information including contact number for vets in the area. Hopefully we will have a photo of Lottie today.
Stay safe little girl until you are found xxx
