Just had word from the musician Darren Hayman. He is writing, recording and releasing a song a day in January. His song today is all about Arthur's adventure. It was Darren that recommended your site to me...which in turn was instrumental in finding Arthur. Check at this link this evening to hear the Arthur inspired song. http://januarysongs.tumblr.com/

Spindle
Joe, use plotting on sheet I sent you. More posters up more calls you will get. If you want to door to door poster we can get you flyers done.
Joe Lepper
Last positive sighting still Wed night. Had a few possibles in surrounding area, but too vague to count. Have got so many people looking in the village he was last seen that he may have moved on. What kind of area can they cover. From the village there is basically countryside/farm buildings all around to the north south and west and more homes to the east - which is nearer to where we live. Any advice when they move on from an area -key buildings/food/etc they look for.
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Fingers crossed that your lovely boy continues to stay in the same area so that the trap can be used !
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Fingers crossed for you Joe, stay safe Arthur. So pleased the scenting is working and Arthur is staying close by.x
Spindle
Sighting around 7 p.m tonight, owner checking out. Please do not chase this dog call owner immediately if seen, he is nervous.
Spindle
Joe, please keep me update by text if sightings, once I know I can bump up to top of lost list. Need to get feed station established then we can set up trap. Yep it is a big cage with food in!!!Last edited: 2011-01-13 21:07:14 by Spindle
Joe Lepper
thanks everyone. No sightings today, despite having an army of dog walkers in Walton out looking. We've been there in shifts all day too. Should there be more sightings we should be at the humane trap stage. Dog warden and local RSPCA have proved useless on that front. Should we need one any advice on getting one. I'm assuming its essentially a big cage with food in.
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Great that there have been more sightings reported from Arthurs press coverage.re-bumping due to both. Fingers crossed this helps to get him safely home x
Lisa123
Your doing a great job Joe! I have everything crossed that Arthur is home very soonx
Joe Lepper
Have found a common route we think and left his blanke,=t, my coat, and about to leave a bowl of food there. Mass search on Saturday planned as well should be gone for that long. Story in the local paper as well, page five with pic. got a few more sightings from that http://www.thisissomerset.co.uk/news/hunt-missing-dog-Arthur/article-3091587-detail/article.html
dinkydoodle
Great there's been another sighting of Arthur and he's staying in the same area, try putting out smelly food, sardines are good to keep him within the area and if you see him, don't be surprised if he doesn't come bounding over to you; call him but don't give him eye contact and crouch down turning away from him making soft noises or possibly lie down and whimper, stay below his level and curiosity should get the better of him - a tasty sausage/treat in your hand will be helpful also, and a slip lead! Let's hope tomorrow is THE DAY!
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Bumped due to new sighting, good that no one is frightening him away. Come on Arthur, its time to be safe home with your family. Good Luck for tommorrow Joe x
Joe Lepper
Arthur update: spotted today hanging around a village hall five mins walk from where seen last night. The scent, the rain and his own fatigue is keeping him there. Its a very community spirited village in Walton. The area has been blitzed PR wise...too dark to find him tonight. Back tomorrow to search the same area. Thanks again. I'll post more updates tomorrow. PS - re mendip dog warden - its outsourced to SDK - it is a rubbish service, pretty non existent, they never get back. Pass it around the dog community that Mendip dog warden's service contract needs to be terminated. It is ineffectual.
dinkydoodle
You're probably right that Arthur has laid low today because of the awful weather. As long as all the local and surrounding vets, rescues and Dog Wardens know Arthur is missing, if he gets handed in they will scan him - just make sure the chip co has your correct details - and if you can put up as many posters as you can (I know they do wash away in the rain) if anyone spots him then they can call up immediately. Keep searching Joe, you're doing really well.
Joe Lepper
No update as no sightings today, but the area he is in means that if hit by a car he would have been brought in somewhere. He's chipped so I'm hopeful that hasn't happened. Think he's just sheltering from the rain. Will go out to last sighting again at dusk - we've left our scent there and he tends to get spotted about that time. I'll keep you all updated later.
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Joe, Arthur might be coinciding his visit to the pub with their "cooking times"- nice smells and maybe scraps to be had from their bins. other places to watch out for him might be schools and nursing homes if he is attracted by smells- "bin day" is another popular time for easy pickings if he is drawn to the town.Good Luck for getting him safely home very soon x
Lisa123
Good luck Joe. Will be thinking of you all.
Joe Lepper
I think I've found one of the corners of his triangle - The Pike and Musket pub car park, Walton. Hoping he doesn't stray beyond it. Thanks all of you. I'll keep you all posted.
Joe Lepper
thanks, yes, I've put bits of our old socks and some of his dry food around where he was seen. I hope he stays there the night. Its the grounds of part of Milfield School in Walton. If he is following a triangle he will be heading back to where we lost him. We are all on red alert and will be stationed where last seen at dawn tomorrow. He may stick around to enjoy our scent...either way I'm happy as long as the A39 traffic doesn't get him. I've left our scent on parts of the journey back to where we lost him.
Lisa123
Would it be worth putting more scent in the place he has been seen and then waiting close by if you can ~ just thinking outloud really. Keep going Joe and come home soon Arthur you lovely boy.
dinkydoodle
That's great news that Arthur has been seen closer to home again tonight - I don't know if you've been sent these instructions but if you can, get a map of your area and mark all the spots where Arthur has been seen - as dogs plot in triangles so if you can see which line he is going in, you can roughly see where he is going to end up. Come on Arthur, get yourself home and well done Joe, keep up the good work.
DogLostNina
Keep up the good work Joe, really do hope your hard work pays off.
Joe Lepper
Seen back in Walton where we have left scent and food tonight. Scent tips are working.
Joe Lepper
He's off the radar now and looks to be heading further from home. We live in a rural area so we are talking fields, then small village every few miles along the A39. Any advice for dealing with such a situation? Scenting is on hold until we get some idea where he is.
Joe Lepper
He's definitely not heading back to Street, Somerset. Looks to be moving towards either Ashcott/Pedwell areas from Walton. This could mean he starts moving towards Bridgewater or Taunton. Please keep an eye out in those areas and print off any posters if possible. Cheers, Joe
Joe Lepper
Have just been out scenting. Aiming to attract him to people we know and public places for sightings. Will keep updating. No calls from vet/petlogs re dogs being brought in, which is good. No sightings since last night, which is bad. Thanks again for the advice.
ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
copied from update above:
Last seen Pike and Musket car park, Walton, 8pm Mon 10 Jan.
Will email scenting instructions across but please do contact Spindle for further advice. As the girls below have said- doglost have had very good results from using the scenting. It can help stop your dog travelling and keep him in one area thereby making it easier to work on catching him- even if you can't get him to scent right back to your home.Good luck Joe.I hope there are more sightings today and Arthur is safe home very soon. x
dinkydoodle
Hi Joe, sorry to see Arthur is missing, he looks a gorgeous boy. If you haven't already been sent them, please contact Spindle Area Co ord N Dorset and she can email you scenting instructions, they do work! Hope to see your lovely boy back home very soon.
DogLostNina
Hello Joe Lepper. Not sure if this would work what if you did it in stages. Put some items of clothing or things that he would recognize your smell. I understand even hoover bag dust can work and lay them every so often so that he might stay in an area at least for a short time till you can catch up with him.
Joe Lepper
Thanks Nina....he's about 2miles from our home. So not sure that'd work. If I can get a sighting nearer I'll definitely do that. I'd do anything at this stage to get him back including weeing in a bottle.
DogLostNina
Hello Joe Lepper. Is Arthur very far away from home. If he is quite near it might be useful to the scenting method. In basic terms you collect your wee and in a bottle usually, sprinkle it from where you think he may be and take a route to your home reaching either the front door or back garden. The more experienced doglost people if they see this message I am sure will be able to give you more guidance on the subject.
Joe Lepper
Arthur update. Had a sighting at 2pm today (mon 10 Jan) in Walton, but nothing since. I think he will have found somewhere to shelter for the night in the Walton area and will be on the move again in the morning. Anyone travelling along the A39 or in the walton/ west end/ashcott area keep an eye out. cheers everyone. I'll post regular updates here.
Joe Lepper
He is microchipped so that shouldn't be an issue.
natalie
Hi there, don't know if it's just this photo but he looks very much like either a labradoodle or a wirehaired pointer, so may be worth checking very carefully the stray kennels/resues etc as if you describe him as a spaniel cross over the phone he may not be recognised, and with him not being microchipped it's better not to take the risk of them not finding him! Natalie
Joe Lepper
Owner of Arthur here. Arthur has still not been found. He has been sighted wandering scared around the Street area fo Somerset Farm Road, High Street etc this morning. He is a softy, so do not be afraid of approaching him. this is frustrating that he is so near, yet so far. The search continues.
Spindle
Will contact and advise.
