This is very sad news indeed that these two beautiful dogs have ended up being shot by a farmer, the only small thing is that this farmer obviously reported his actions to the authority and the owners have been able to grieve properly for their beautiful dogs, many other owners have never been told the fate f their pets. Rest in peace at the bridge Maverick & Sally xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How absolutely tragic - what a terrible thing to happen. I am so very sorry for Sally and Maverick's owners, this is not the outcome we wanted. I think this farmer needs to be questioned further about his actions. Run free together at the bridge, dear Sally and Maverick xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Really sorry these two came to such a tragic end. Rest in peace, both of you. Afraid this reinforces my feelings about farmers being just a bit trigger-happy. And yes, I do live in a farming area, and have friends who are farmers. The law on when they can shoot is very strict but as there are rarely witnesses, who is to say? The only saving grace (a very small one) is that he apparently reported it. No wish to make anything worse for the owners, but I do think this law needs looking at.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for your well wishes & thanks to Owl for your help (sorry don't have your number to contact you personally). The Dog Warden has just visted us to inform us that our dogs were shot yesterday by a local farmer as he believed they were worrying his sheep on the common. The ironic thing is that our dogs have been running around our farm for the past few weeks whilst we have been lambing both out & in sheds on the yard & they have never been remotely interested in them. Perhaps they were very hungry after a week out under the stars. The only consilation I can find is that they aren't locked in or chained up somewhere scared & I can now put an end to the search & worry. Rest in peace both, thank you for your loving companionship.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sally has entropion and was booked in for op an eyelids. She and Maverick the GSP were running round owner's property while kennels were being cleaned, and they didn't come back. This was at 10.30 in morning. The dogs have a regular routine and stay close, they don't suddenly take off. An unknown person called in briefly to say the dogs were near the road and then immediately left - no way of telling whether this was someone being helpful or someone causing a distraction. DW has been informed, police being told tomorrow, all neighbours aware, have recommended widespread postering plus ad in local paper and a mention on local radio if poss.

'Sally' was running around our farm with our other dogs when we think she was taken along 'Maverick'. She NEVER strays! She is a well trained, affectionate gun dog who is greatly missed. She was booked in with the vets to have her eyes operated on Thurs as her eyelashes turn in causing her eyes to water, this has made her more distinctive due to her tear stained eyes.
