How sad Abi been missing so long. Bless her and keep her safe.Goodluck love Gail; xxx
*Amber*
Thank you. This time of year, my dad is out about 4 days a week birding from about 6.00am, and he wonders if travellers may take these missing dogs on. He says they have a lot of dogs, but he says he will definitely keep an eye open for one with ears like Abi, and he will let me know if he ever sees any dog alone. xxx

This morning are doing an appeal for lost dogs on tomorrows show. Their email address is thismorning@itv.com, they need a picture of the dog and some back ground info about where it went missing etc. It needs to be sent to them by 6pm today.

Amber, as has been said, we always like to know of a sighting, no matter what the dog, as we can always try and match them up anyway. Just wish the husky and Abi had both been found and caught. Hopefully, one day, you will receive the call that will be Abi. And hopefully, not too long. x
Cassie
Amber, please don't worry that this dog wasn't Abi, every lead is worth following up, so your post is very much appreciated!

Amber don't be sorry alerting us to this dog as all sightings need to be investigated so thank you x

Abi has been one of my special 'watches' I would love her to come home. My dog was gone for 18 months before she got home. So never give up. XXX
*Amber*
I think you must be right Cassie. I had a look at the Husky photo, and as dad only saw the back end, it could have been mistaken for brindle from a distance. I'm really sorry if I got false hopes up for Abi and Ace, but I just wanted to mention what my dad had seen. xx
Cassie
I think this must have been the Husky that was spotted about 3pm exactly where you say, and the police did try to catch it, but it ended up on Seckford Hall golf course, so they couldn't catch it and gave up...it returned about 6pm when I saw it.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Strangely enough the police have attended other dog "catches" and there have been no reports logged. This included one on a motorway where the flashing lights were turned on to say a dog was on the road. No record. I assume it is not always the case, but it does happen, sadly. Let's hope it was Abi and get those posters out there quick! Come on Abi, home now sweetie. x
*Amber*
Hi, I have just spoken to my dad, for more info, and he said that the police were definitely there trying to catch the dog! Dad said it was Saturday afternoon, and it was raining, and the police car was in the layby, with blue flashing lights, and the police man was chasing the dog down the road! I asked dad for the exact location, and he said it was after the Woodbridge roundabout, heading towards Martlesham, and the police car was in the first layby after the Woodbridge roundabout. Dad said if you have rang Martlesham police, to try Woodbridge police. Dad said soon after this, a police car went past him with flashing lights, so they may not have caught the dog, and been called out to an accident, because an ambulance went past just after that heading towards Woodbridge. Sorry, I can't be of more help! xx
*Amber*
Hi again, well how odd that the police had no record!!! I'm sure dad said that the police were actually there! I have tried to contact my dad just now so he could relay all he saw again, but his mobile doesn't have a signal at the mo, but I will keep trying, and let you know as soon as I do! xx
Cassie
Hi Amber, following your message I rang the police, and they have no record of attending a dog on the 16th, other than trying to catch the Husky I had also seen. I rang Pampered Pets, as all stray dogs from the Suffolk Coastal area are taken there. Again, she hasn't had any dogs admitted over the weekend. I then tried West End Kennels who look after stray dogs in the Ipswich area, and again, they've only had a puppy admitted over the weekend.
I'm afraid I have drawn a complete blank over this, so cannot find out whether it could have been Abi or Ace. Do you know if the police did actually attend, or did someone just call them and hope??? Perhaps whoever had found the dog decided to take it home???
Anyone got any other ideas please???

Thank you Amber I will let the owner know about this new possible sighting x
*Amber*
I was really hoping to come on here today to see Abi reunited. I have been out with my dad birding today, (17-7-11) and as I have given him him a photo before of Abi, as he birds in Rendlesham, Hollesley, Sutton and surrounding areas, he mentioned that yesterday (16-7-11) he saw a dog near Martlesham on the road, and someone had called the police out, and they were picking up a very nervous looking dog. I said to my dad that I didn't think the poilce dealt with dogs anymore, but he said maybe it was because the dog was on the road causing a traffic problem (the dog was ok by the way.) Dad said unfortunately, while driving past, he only saw the back end of the dog, but he said it was light with the dark mottled markings like the photo of Abi I sent him! Does anybody know anything about this dog that was picked up yesterday? Would the police have a record of it if they were called out?? Just thought I would mention what my dad said about this dog yesterday, just in case. I hope Duncan is feeling much btter! xxxLast edited: 2011-07-18 16:58:59 by *Amber*

As the latest possible sighting was the Blythburgh area, I have put posters in the village hall, and the White Hart which is used by visiting walkers and birdwatchers, maybe we can strike lucky and get a definite sighting. Fingers crossed!!!!

Bumping due to this new possible sighting of Abi.
Cassie please pass on my best wishes to Duncan when you next speak to him I do hope he is up and about very soon, you and him have worked tirelessly to find Abi and am praying this recent sighting is her and she will soon be home xxx
Cassie
OK, just had a phonecall from a couple on holiday in the area, and they were walking near Blythburgh yesterday, when they saw a dog resembling Abi. This dog had no owner but would not come near the couple when they tried to entice it. At the time, they were walking on a footpath where dogs were supposed to be kept on leads. They had parked down a track that went from Blackheath to Blyford Bridge. The footpath went along the riverside but had heathland to one side, and it was on the heathland that they saw 'Abi'.
If this was Abi, then she has obviously travelled a long way, but could I please ask anyone familiar with this particular area, to keep an eye open for her?
I should also let you all know that Duncan has had a mild heart attack and is in hospital at the moment, so I will not be letting him know anything about this latest call, as I'm sure the stress of missing Abi and searching for her still, will have contributed to his current health problem...
Cassie
Thanks so much Cavviegirl for taking the time and trouble to let us know about this potential find. Sadly it wasn't Abi, but who knows, next time...

Thanks Cavviegirl I will let the owner's know x

Hi. There is a lurcher that looks just like Abi at the sanctuary called the Algernon Trust in Whittlebury, Northants. The thing that catches the eye are the ears, which look like a german shepherds, and the muzzle. I think she has been there for a while, well worth checking with the trust but at this very minute I do not have their telno. Good luck, maybe a happy outcome.

Bumped because of the new sightings.
Thanks Cassie for the up-date, these 2 recent sightings sound very hopeful, it's time you were home Abi xxx
Cassie
Just been chatting to Duncan and he is very excited about 2 recent possible sightings of Abi, in the Wantisden area. These took place a week ago (last Thursday), and the very kind couple who saw her tried to coax her over, and when her name was called, she did stop and look at them. Although the couple were aware that Abi was missing, they did not know how to contact Duncan, and asked for help at the local pub (Butley Oyster). The field Abi was in was opposite the Wantisden Farms and she disappeared into the Chillesford forest.
Duncan is in the process of asking permission from the Forestry Commission to display further posters. They had asked him to remove them last year after 4 months...
I should also mention that he received a call placing Abi in Bourne Park, Ipswich. This seems highly unlikely, particularly in view of the latest sighting in Wantisden

Thanks littlelab, I will pass this on to the owner.

Duncan has had further calls in the last few days, sighting Abi crossing the road, back and forth, by the pub previously known as The Cherry Tree, now renamed The British Larder, at Bromeswell. Another sighting was by Nelson Potters wood yard at Bromeswell. If this dog is Abi, she is staying in a 1 mile radius by all accounts.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Have E-mailed a poster to all contacts I have in the area so they are aware of this sighting, come on Abi be lovely to see you home xxx
Cassie
Thanks Lizzy. Duncan regularly puts adverts in our local EADT weekend paper when they run special Pets supplements, so he is really trying to keep Abi in people's minds. He is going to poster the area again, as FC wanted posters removed after 3 months last year.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Wow this is brilliant that there has been a possibe sighting of Abi, if this is her then she is staying round the area that she knows well. Fingers crossed we have more sightings xxx
Unknown
Wish it was Abi, as I have followed her thread from beginning but fear that someone has taken her in, as she has never been found wondering. Perhaps another ad in the paper may bring news of her, or an ad in Dogs Monthly or similar magazine. Crufts is next month, maybe you could get an ad there for lurcher day. Liz xx
Cassie
Duncan received a phone call from a lady who thought she saw Abi on Thursday morning, 18th February!!! She said she was almost able to catch her, she got very close. The location was still in Rendlesham Forest, on the road from Woodbridge to Butley, there is a track directly opposite the turning left for Friday Street. Down this track there is a cottage, and Abi was seen in this area.
Obviously Duncan immediately went there, but sadly hasn't seen her. Sightings of Abi have been reported in this specific area on several occasions, so please keep your eyes peeled if you walk your dogs around here. I know there is a large Traveller encampment not far from here, so it could be one of their dogs, but you just never know...Last edited: 2011-02-19 10:41:19 by Cassie

Thanks so much guys for not giving up on Abi, it has been such a very long time, and now the weather is turning cold again...Duncan advertised Abi in our local East Anglian Daily Times last Saturday, and a lady rang him to say she had seen a dog answering Abi's description last Thursday in the Saxstead area.
Duncan is going to ask for help from another animal

Thanks Sue I will let the owners know that she is advertised in the Shooting Times.
Thank you Ginny-R for keeping a look out for Abi, the chances that she is living wild are very possible, as you say there is a good food source in the area, and the forest is so vast.
I know the owner's are still searching

Advertised in The Shooting Times. Good luck

I have just spent the last 10 days in this area organising a horse ride - sadly no sightings. I took a flyer to the ride & whilst a lot of the local riders knew Abi had gone missing, nearly all thought she had been found as they hadn't seen any recent posters!!!!!
The coomon thought between us is that Abi is now living wild as this is such a large shooting area & the pheasants are all reared so easy pickings for a crafty dog....... What do others think?
I will still keep looking & will keep my poster up in the horsebox whenever we are riding in the area.
DogLostHelen - Regional Co-ordinator - Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge
Sadly there has been no further sightings. But I know the owner's will never give up searching x

I have spoken to Cassie and the man was very certain this dog was Abi and hopefully we will get more sightings of her. It is very close to Friday Street where Abi has been seen before. There is a trap availible to use for when we need it. Thanks wickedweims I have passed the information on about the labradors and hopefully the owner will met up at the campsite and hand out flyers to them

Cassie, great there has been a sighting of Abi. We are all willing for her to be back home with you. Good luck. Jan x ........BUMPED DUE TO SIGHTING.....
Cassie
Abi was spotted recently by a man taking a shower, looking out of his bathroom window! Turns out to be a security officer from Bentwaters, who is very aware of Abi. He got outside as quickly as he could, but she had run off. It appears she is looking for easy pickings from rubbish bins/bags on the Rendlesham estate. Duncan has put new posters up in the entrances to the estate, saying that Abi has been seen in this immediate area. By all accounts, she is looking very well! Duncan has also been back to visit the wood opposite the estate, where Abi was seen in someones garden. Duncan has let the owner know she might have been seen close by.Last edited: 2010-07-05 20:01:16 by Cassie

Had a phone call yesterday from a lady who was concerned that it might have been her dog that was sighted as she walks the Westlton Heath regularly, but the times were not right,so I went there again and handed out more flyers and walked the area from 5pm until dusk, but sadly there was no sign, didn't even see a deer! Anyway I will go again later this week.

I have looked at the map and bearing in mind how long Abi has been missing it is quite possible that she has moved on to this area. I'm praying that this could be her and she will give herself up soon. Fingers crossed xxx
carol
I walked the Westleton area this morning, and put some more posters up, I also handed out flyers to several dog walkers, who said they would look out for her, although most people already knew about her. I agree with Cass it does seem a long way for her to travel, but I will walk the area again in the week and hope for a result!
Cassie
It's good to know people are still keeping a look out for Abi. I had a call 2 weeks ago from a man who thought he had seen Abi, running in front of him chasig a deer, then coming back into view chasing a different deer! This was on Track 25 in Tunstall forest, on the Tunstall to Orford road. Duncan has been there every day since, but sad to say, not seen Abi. Then last night I had a call from a man who thought he had seen Abi on Westleton Heath. She was just walking along and didn't respond to his calls or whistles, and he couldn't see anyone around who might have owned the dog. Westleton is a long way from where Abi went missing...Carol has kindly offered to walk the area, and Naomi will join her when she gets back from holiday on Wednesday. Could these be actual sightings, or is there another similar dog gone missing???

Thank you Sara. I think of Abi too and so hope that she has been picked up by someone and her chip will bring her home, it does happen x

I'm still keeping my eye out every day, and everything I do in my look out for Abi. My heart goes out to Duncan to keep his spirits up. You know where I am if you want more help if any sightings prove reliable. My thoughts are still with you.

According to what I see on ukcampsite.co.uk Tagham camp site in Rendlesham forest opens in April.  I am sure they could help by accepting and dispaying a poster for Ali and then hopefully many holiday makers will see it.  There might even be a holiday manager there now getting ready for the season...maybe a poster has already been dropped off there!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Duncan had a call from a lady on Sunday evening at 8.45pm to say she had seen a dog, possibly Abi, eating a rabbit by the side of the road earlier that evening.  Duncan went and investigated the area but found nothing.  We have since searched in the immediate vicinity, but still nothing. The location was on the Hollesley Road, from Melton, just as you get to the end of the 40 mile limit through the army base.  We're still walking the area where she went missing, but nothing to report I'm afraid.  Incidentally, this location is only 500 yards from 2 Traveller sites, so the dog seen could easily have belonged to them...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh Cassie this is such a shame as I too thought we were closing in on her but at least the owner's of this lurcher have come forward and told you so you can eliminate these sightings. You must feel like we are back to square one but some one somewhere must know where Abi is and we must continue to search for her. Be safe Abi xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Cassie
Sadly today, Duncan actually saw this particular Lurcher, closely followed by its owners.  In talking to them, they admitted that it was their dog that had been seen at that precise time by the golfer...the owners live close to the golf course, and the dog runs free and chases deer... Obviously this is very upsetting news, as we felt we were closing in on Abi.  So in truth, there haven't been any positive sightings for a long time, so we are now re-postering and the 'free'local paper did a feature on Abi, but no response as yet.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Duncan spoke to the man who saw the dog.  Apparently the Muntjac came on to the course, closely followed by a dog, which was startled to see the man there.  The dog then walked away and the man tried to call and attract the dog back, but he just kept walking off into the forest.  The dog was slightly darker than the photo of ABi, but it could be that she is very dirty after living rough for 6 weeks. The man has suggested Duncan give flyers to the 7 Groundsman at the Golf Club, as they are out at dawn, so could be in an excellent position to see Abi if she is around. We've been searching today, but no joy.  Duncan is wondering if the dog might belong to the Travellers who are very close by.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a call tonight from someone who had seen a dog, answering Abi's description, chasing a Muntjac across the Woodbridge Golf Course towards Rendlesham Forest.  I checked the call was genuine and Duncan went to look.  I haven't heard from him yet, but he did say he'd met someone today who saw a dead deer in the same vicinity, and the deer had obviously been eaten.  Could she be staying in the same area at long last? This location is just as you turn left into the Hollesley Road from Sutton Hoo.  There is a track immediately on the left that takes you to the back of the golf course.  If you stay on the Hollesley road for about 1/2 mile, there is a pull-in on the left, and a track that many dog walkers use.  Abut 1/4 mile further on, there are 2 traveller encampments... there is also a track that leads through to Nelson Potters Wood yard.  This can also be approached from the Orford Road in Bromeswell, alongside the Rugby Club. If anyone is thinking of coming to walk this area, please be aware that there is an archery club within this section of the forest, and I understand they use the facilities at weekends...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Carol.  Duncan is going to laminate a load tommorrow and we'll replace posters too.  Please let me know where you go so I don't duplicate. Duncan is feeling very frustrated now.  After no sightings for several weeks, there have been a few possible ones, then yesterday he had a call saying Abi had been seen, and we were on the spot within 5 minutes of the call, but sadly it turned out to be a different Lurcher.  The owner was very upset for Duncan... Naomi and I are going to try to replace some of the old posters with the new ones over the weekend, and it would be really good if I could have some of the new flyers as well, please. I went out round Friday Street and Rookery farm at 5.30am a couple of mornings to see if there were any signs at daybreak, but sadly nothing. If she is there we will find her, eventually! Time you at home girl!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Cassie, I'm so sorry to hear that Duncan had received a call from some saddo - still we won't let a little thing like that get in the way of finding Abi! I hope that Yasa's new poster will make people stop and think and that, very soon, Duncan will receive the call we've all been waiting for. Come on Abi - time you were back home with your family. Duncan has had a further call today, telling him that someone saw Abi in Friday Street recently, but didn't say where or when... He then had a horrible call from a man asking him if he'd found his dog yet?  He then said his dog was in Huddersfield and said something else that Duncan couldn't understand then put the phone down... Sincere thanks to Naomi and Carol for ignoring the rotten weather today, and coming to help Duncan, Ro and me in our continued search. You can run and at the moment you can hide Abi, but sooner or later, we will find you!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well Duncan walked in the area of the last sighting last night, taking Willow and Churchill with him.  At one stage, Willow became very excited and pulled Duncan in a certain direction, but sadly, it was a deer that had caught her attention...
Ro and I have been out this morning walking in the woods where Abi would have run too, and searching the fields, but nothing.  There are a million places she could be sheltering, the roads around here are now flooded in many places, the fields are more like bogs, it’s horrible! Naomi is coming over now and is going to check out Friday Street, particularly in the area of the lake, where we found a dead deer some weeks ago.  I wonder if it is worth leaving food out in this area, although how will we know if it has been eaten by a fox or not?  I feel as if we are closing in to a specific area, but Abi doesn’t seem to want to be found, it’s so frustrating. Poor Duncan has been trying to contact more animal communicators, and has been told by one that ABi has died, but then we get the calls about possible sightings, so it throws everything up on the air again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wow, I hope it was Abi!  It's great if she's got her muzzle off.  A lot of deer are killed at this time of year on the road, so I'm sure she would have food!  Let's pray that today is the day she's found!  It would make my day if she was safely home at last!  xx

Isn't life strange, you go for ages without hearing anything, then suddenly there are two possible sightings! Today I learned of a lorry driver who saw a Lurcher, without a muzzle, in the Butley area, in the fields opposite the Butley Oyster.  2 dead deer have also been found, that could have been killed by a dog. Duncan has had a call this evening from a man who lives in Friday Street.  He was driving towards the Orford Road, just passed Rookery Farm, when a dog answering Abi's description ran out in front of him, and turned and ran back into the hedgerow on the right hand side.  This happened at 6 o'clock tonight. Duncan has gone out there now and will walk with Willow.  I'm going out tomorrow at dawn.  I really do hope these are actual sightings, and means that Abi is coping with her new found freedom!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I received a phonecall from Nelson Potters (the timberyard) yesterday.  They'd had a customer come in who having read the poster, decided she had seen a dogs body on the side of the road, but she couldn't quite remember where, as she was unfamiliar with the area.  Anyway, we managed to find out where she meant and drove out to check, but it was a Muntjac... Duncan has also had a call telling him that a dogs body was seen on a track alongside a lake.  I think this is probably the deer we were told about some weeks ago, but Duncan has been out searching, and the only thing he has found is a dead swan... I really wish I could tell you more positive news, but there is a complete lack of sightings.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Susie!  Duncan had a message waiting for him at lunchtime from a lady who thinks she might have seen a dog like Abi in a field opposite the Butley Oyster at 10.30 this morning.  Naturally we've all checked the area and can find no trace of Abi.  This well meaning lady didn't see the head of the animal, and with the landscape looking as it does at the moment, a brindle dog and a deer would be difficult to distinguish between...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The bikers yesterday were denied access to parts of Tunstall Forest due to a motorcycle race being held there.  They are going to cover this particular area next Sunday, but in the meantime, they are continuing to search every day and night when they are riding.  Some are even specifically riding in areas where Abi has been sighted previously.  Meanwhile, we continue to walk in different locations, hoping and praying we find Abi...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes Helen, it was extremely heartening to see so many 'strangers' giving up their Sunday morning to help find Abi.  I know Duncan drew strength from their support today.  He gave them each some sausage and tasty cheese, Abi's favourite.  We went through how to react if they did find her, they all stored our mobile number in their phone and they all set off in their small groups to different locations.  I don't think the Sandlings has ever been covered so adequately before! It was almost as disappointing for them as it was for us that no-one found Abi.  They did report back how impressed they were that everyone they met knew about Abi and were looking out for her too.  One of the bikers had found a stray nearby yesterday, and taken it to the local kennels.  I asked if he could try harder next time and find our missing Lurcher please.  One of the cyclists also cycled the perimter of Bentwaters Airbase and went through Firday Street yesterday, and again at dawn this morning, as he felt he was more likely to see her at this time, and when he was on his own. Just as we'd said our thanks and farewells, a call came through from Carol at Lowestoft Dog Show.  She had displayed a poster about Abi and someone had told her that a dog answering Abi's description had been involved in a car accident in Norfolk, earlier this week, and taken to a vet.  I rang the Norfolk Police and they traced the report and confirmed the dog had actually been reunited with its' owner. An hour or so later, Naomi, Duncan's wife called to say someone had possibly seen a dog, which they thought was a deer at first, in the forest very close to where we had all met this morning!  Duncan raced over there, hotly persude by Naomi from Leiston and Suzanne from Rendlesham.  I can only assume they've had no joy, as they haven't rung. People have really been so kind in giving up their time, energy and not least, petrol to help find Abi.  If it wasn't for the sighting nearly two weeks ago, my gut feeling would be that someone has her, and eventually Duncan will get a call.  Maybe someone has picked her up since then, I really don't know.  There is no point in putting down food, because where do we put it?  There are a thousand and one places a dog could find to shelter in this area... I just don't know what else we can do, other than keep walking in different locations every day, until we get a call asking for the reward or telling us of a positive sightingLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much to everyone who continues to help in this search, many of you are experienced in this I know, and you manage to remain full of hope and optimism, which encourages all of us! There is a possibility that we might be called upon to help marshall the search on Sunday that the bikers are doing for us.  Duncan has contacted the EADT again and they are sending out a photographer, so hopefully there will be a follow-up story about Abi, which will help to keep her profile in the public.  If we are needed to assist, I will put out a plea on here as soon as I know. The local mountain bikers are organising a search on Sunday.  There will probably be about 20 - 25 of them, and they're spiltting into groups and going more off track than we dog walkers do.  I think, unless we hear anything to the contrary, the best area they could cover will be Friday Street.  I do hope they have success.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the advice, I'm using Explorer now and let's hope this works!! This morning, Duncan received a call from an elderly gentleman, saying that a stray dog had been seen in Blaxhall that could have been Abi.  Naturally we all rushed over there, and I contacted the Animal Communicator too, and she was very excited, saying that Abi was definitely in that particular area. We were joined by Sara and the Lurcher chap, who had so kindly come all the way from St. Neots to help.  We split up, searched everywhere, visited farms and everyone we met either knew about Abi, having read the paper last week, or were very receptive to us. The local landlord put a poster up in his bar, we knocked on doors and gave out leaflets, but I'm sorry to say, the search was fruitless.  Naomi was coming over this afternoon, but I assume she didn't have any success either... If it was Abi, I'm a bit concerned, as the direction she was travelling in takes her close to the railway line and ultimately the busy A12.  Is it too much to ask for a positive, really positive sighting PLEASE???  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from Cass who is still having problems posting ( I will try and sort this out for you tomorrow) Thanks so much to everyone who is still trying so hard to find Abi. We are just getting so many mixed messages/sightings, and it is difficult to know which is fact and which is mistaken identity..... Most certainly, all dog walkers we come across are very aware of Abi and are looking out for her. Duncan has decided it would be a good idea to have an organised search of Rendlesham/Tangham again tomorrow. He thinks that if we all walk at 11 a.m. we just might get lucky. The areas covered so far for tomorrow are Poplar Park and the area in Rendlesham where she went missing, Little Scotland, tracks immediately around the runway. If anyone wants to join in there is the area on the lefthand side of the road as you drive down to Tangham Forestry OfficesLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Messge from Cassie who is having problems posting   Further sightings of Abi near Bromewell Rugby Club at 10.30.p.m. last Tuesday. She didn't have either a collar or a muzzle on, and had a rabbit in her mouth. We've walked the forest near here extensively, postered the rugby club and spoken to people there. I walked there again today, by coincedence. Nothing..... One side of this forest backs on to a traveller's site, Woodbridge Golf Club and ultimately out onto the Sutton Hoo to Hollesley Rd. The other side of the forest backs on to the army camp. In between these 2 parts is Nelson Potters, a wood /shed suppliers. Sarah has called to say she and friends are willing to continue searching tomorrow, as has Naomi and Carol.  My gut feeling is that we should really concentrate on Friday Street, as it is possible Abi had been feeding from the dead deer, the possible sightings of her are not far from Friday Street, and with most people walking in the rest of Rendlesham, we'd surely have seen her by now?  The Mountain Bikers are looking for her, and they ride a lot at night in the forest, and the Off Roaders are also looking for her.  If she's out there, we'll find her!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We saw an animal that might possibly have been Abi (or a deer) - it was a fair distance from us and we couldn't see enough of it because it was behind some undergrowth, other than it was the right colour and height. We walked across to the area, but sadly didn't see it again. We parked at the end of the Friday Street No Through Road and walked straight along the main track, and it was roughly behind the first house on the right hand side, the track side of the river.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

2 possible sightings reported.  One is in a small wood right next to Bentwaters airbase and the other is crossing the road from Daisy's walk/Friday Street area over towards Tangham.  The small wood area is being covered tomorrow morning as that is the latest sighting, so if anyone has any time, can they please search in Friday Street.  It seems as if Abi is staying in this area.  The owner of the wood has opened up sheltered areas and laid straw down in case Abi is searching for somewhere to sleep.  Other people living in the wood (not travellers!) are aware of the situation and have offered to feed her and keep her indoors till the morning if they see her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bumped due to possible sighting. A man was driving from Bromeswell to Rendlesham at about 9.30 last night and saw a large sized dog which was a lightish colour. The man stopped the car but the dog ran along the road in the direction of Woodbridge. The area has been heavily postered and the owners will continue to do this tomorrow along with searching. Keep safe Abi xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The local paper EADT are going to run a story on Abi, and have been very impressed with the number of people turning out to help find Abi.  They would like to take a photo of Duncan with all the volunteers tomorrow at 11am in Rendlesham Forest car park, where Abi went missing, which is the Hollesley end of the forest.  If anyone can spare the time to come over please, it would be much appreciated!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue who lives at Rendlesham laid a few treats out on our search saturday-she told me yesterday the treats have been taken. This was at fire post 3,off the main road-turn right and follow the border fence left till you come to a set of buildings off the beaten track. She laid them there,it could have been another dog but doubtful as off the main track, also could have been deer.I;ll lay a trail of stinky tripe sticks friday,in hopes that deer wont touch those. Not losing hope!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to carp on about the t.v. but knowing lurchers, they run very fast for a short time, so if these wonderful people have searched all around the area and not found her, the chances are someone has her. Not neccessarily a bad thing. At least her muzzle will have been removed and she can eat. We have to be very positive and think that maybe this person just doesn't know what to do. I really hope she is home safe soon. Mine was missing for 18 months and came home, I feel very positive about Abi. X  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We parked in the first car park off the Woodbridge Road B1084 (where there was a poster), walked alongside the airfield, then I suppose we did a vague horseshoe back to the Visitors Area, sometimes off the main tracks, so didn't follow any of the marked Trails. One woman we spoke to came from Snape and was unaware Abi was missing, the others didn't volunteer where they had come from but were shown her picture.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Naomi has kindly searched Tunstall Forest today, which is about 3 miles further on from Rendlesham Forest.  She met some mountain bikers, who often use this particular forest, and they have very kindly put up Abi's details on their website.  We have been out postering around Tunstall, Iken, Sudbourne and Orford areas today, so widening the search. We will not give up on Abi!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Could LURCHERLOT be specific about where they were walking please? And also from which region those who hadn't seen the posters had come? Were they given fliers? This information  would be helpful as we would then be able to take action in the right places.Thank you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been out searching for a few hours this morning - sadly no sighting. Quite a few people we spoke to were not aware that Abi was missing, so have hopefully spread the word a little further, although perhaps they came from further afield?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It seems very likely that Abi has moved on as Rendlesham Forest where she went missing from is so heavily postered that we would have had a sighting. We need posters in possible a 30 mile radius now of any wooded area where she can find cover and hopefully this will bring some sightings of her. Abi stay safe we are all looking for you xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can I just say a big thank you to everyone who turned out at such short notice on this wet day x.Thank you to the army (forgive me if you aren't army) runner who covered so much ground. We spoke to a lot of people and handed out many flyers between us.There were many posters up already in the forest thanks to the owner and friends. Sadly there is no news of Abi but the owner will returning later today (as he has done everyday to search) I have suggested that the dog warden, vets etc. be contacted again just to remind them that Abi is still very much missing. I will speak to the owner later tonight and suggest the local news on t.v. Thank you Liz for your suggestion xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No news of Abi yet I'm afraid. The weather is dreadfully wet and cold. A brilliant turn out of about 15 or so people I believe, but there may be more. They have all split up all over the forest. There are two army runners with pointers who are covering loads of ground. Staying positive, as there must be a breakthrough soon. Sorry nothing more at the moment.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for your comments and advice Lin. The owners have spoken to the travellers and are aware of Abi, so too is the Forestry Commission and the air base. There is a search going on today with horse riders, walkers etc. but Rendlesham Forest is quite a vast area with lots of places Abi could hide out if she was scared. I will hopefully be speaking to the owners later today to see how they have got on. Fingers crossed we have some news very soon xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also, there is still a traveller's site near to (what used to be) the front entrance of the American air base. A friend of mine telephoned the Forestry Commission this morning and they told him the travellers are lovely people that would definitely take good care of the dog if it happens their way - so it may be worth someone trotting along for a chat with them?  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The food from the feeding station was untouched last night. The owner took his other dog out into the forest and she did pick up a scent taking him into a very dense part, because it was 10 o'clock at night and the fear of getting lost the owner had to turn back. Sausages were cooked on a barbeque in the hope that this would entice Abi out. A search will contiune at first light today. Hoping to have some good news today xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
