Hi there Cath & John So sorry to hear the sad news regards OZZY. I am so glad that the 2 boys made such a huge effort to get him back to you and at least know you are reunited with him. Good luck with your baby and I am sure he was a very luck dog to have had such dedicated owners .   Hugs XxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Cath thanks for the update, we realise how hard it must have been for you to type this, Rainbow Bridge reunions are everyones dreaded nightmare.  Ozzy is one special boy to have had owner's like you and John and he will be sadly missed he has brought a lot of people together especially on Facebook.  Hugs and kisses from everyone on DL.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Email from Cath: Thank you to everyone for your lovely messages, they are such a comfort. I will try & update on what happened. On Monday evening, I got a call from my husband to tell me that Ozzy had died & he was with his body. 2 lads from Rishton had found him in a field near the canal while walking their dogs. Apparantly, he was next to the railway line. The lads walked back to Rishton to tell John & his brother what they'd found & they all walked back to where they found him to check it was definately Ozzy. Once John had seen him & knew it was definately Ozzy, he rang me to come & pick them all up. They all had to carry ozzy's body for around a mile to get him to the road. Once I got there, I wanted to see him to put my mind at rest that it was actually Ozzy & there was no doubt-it was definately him, plus he still had the spanish red collar on. We took his body to the local vets to be sent for cremation & we should hopefully have his ashes back home soon. He was in good condition, apart from a burn mark on one of his front paws, which is what makes us think he was electrocuted. He didnt look like he's been there long-a couple of days at most. We havent asked for a post mortem-I didnt really see the point as even if it gave us the cause of death, its not going to explain what happened to him in those missing couple of weeks. We are both absolutely devastated & missing him like mad, he was such a special dog & should have had his whole life in front of him- it just seems such a waste. Although we both knew that this could be one of the outcomes, we were so hopeful that we were going to get him back, especially with so many people looking out for him. I just wanted to thank you all for all your help while he has been gone, it has been truly overwhelming how kind people have been & we have appreciated everything that you have done for us over the last few weeks. The fund for his reward has around ?40 in it. If anyone would like their money back, please PM me & I'll sort it out. Whatever is left, I am going to donate to a dog charity-I was thinking either GSD rescue or doglost. Let me know what you think & I'll go with the majority. Thank you again xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh my God, what a beautiful boy to lose his life so young. so sorry sweetheart.

We’ve known lots of pleasure,
At times endured pain,
We’ve lived in the sunshine
And walked in the rain.

But now we’re separated
And for a time apart,
But I am not alone-
You’re forever in my heart.

Death always seems so sudden,
And it is always sure,
But what is oft’ forgotten-
It is not without a cure.

There may be times you miss me,
I sort of hope you do,
But smile when you think of me,
For I’ll be waiting for you.

Now there’s many things for you to do,
And lots of ways to grow,
So get busy, be happy, and live your life,
Miss me, but let me go.

18.35 p.m.  Thanks Liverbird I've just got in from work and had a sad message from Cath while driving home and now have the sad task of moving him into Rainbow Bridge.  Cath and her family have been able to retrieve Ozzy's body and he was taken to the vet's who said looks like he was electrocuted on the railway line.   Cath has not got Internet access at the moment. Cath we are so sorry he has been reunited in these circumstances, you, your family and everyone else has worked so hard looking for him.  Our deepest thoughts are with you all.  Run free at the Bridge and sweet dreams lovely Ozzy.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

17.20 p.m.  Not long spoken to Cath.   Ozzy has been in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and also in the Accrington Observer yesterday, if we find the link it will be posted. There has also been reported sightings of a GSD on its own in Ewood, Blackburn near the Ewood Arms pub BB2.  Also another GSD with a smaller dog has been sighted in Langho, near Walley BB1.  Both these sightings have been followed up yesterday by Catherine, family and people helping with the search.  Jan x Bumped due to paper coverage and sightings.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Cathy I’m so sorry to be reading about Ozzy, this is all too worrysome for you all, and we know too well about how that can be having still got Jacob missing coming up for a year on Thursay :o(( What I wanted to say is that please email at haggerwoods@aol.com and I can send you all the lists of every dog warden, council, vets and doggy based businesses i’ve collated over the year. You can then send a mass email to them all and hopefully that will get passed on and on.it’s good to try to reach everyone you can. I’m too far from you to physically search, but i’ll do whatever I can for you from here in Essex. Sending you a huge hug, I know you will need it. ShelleyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Cath for posting an update. Sorry to see you have still not been reunited with Ozzy.  I’ve been looking at your facebook page and notice you have more pics of him, I’ve put some in a group photo which I will upload on his page, can you send me any original photo/s, the standing one is not very clear.  I used a couple on facebook and the one on DL which are clear.  I will make up the posters I normally do and email out to rescues/helpers etc across Merseyside.  I know you have done your own posters and have been doing a brilliant job spreading the word, someone must of seen Ozzy but may have not seen a poster yet or not reported him as found. Group photo has been emailed to you. What papers have you tried?  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi guys, I'm Ozzy's owner. No news as yet but a couple of leads to follow up today. I;ve checked the dogs mentioned below & they're not Ozzy, they've been in kennels too long. There have been sightings of a GSD in Ewood, Blackburn but its a dog belonging to the travellers on the nearby campsite, I've seen the dog & is definately not Ozzy. There's also been sightings across hyndburn but 2 female GSDs have been picked up by the dog warden this week so they could be accounting for a lot of the sightings. As soon as we have any news, I will post it on here, thanks for all you are doing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have asked my daughter who is a police officer in St Helens to post on police network internet noticeboard about him. Also I have asked on a football forum I use for people to keep a lookout for him. One person has seen a GSD by the old infirmary, but I believe this is a traveller's dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for looking out for Ozzy and posting on his page.  I've sent a text requesting an update and alerting his owner to your posts.  Dog's do not normally go up for rehoming until they have done their 7 days in kennels and he has not been missing that long so I don't think the ones on these sites would be him but owner will be made aware of them.  Thanks again. Part of email from owner: Its quite a long story how he went missing-we've just moved back to the Uk from Lanzarote. The dogs were on a different flight to us & their flight got off ok but ours was delayed 24 hous due to the snow. My brother had to pick up the dogs from the airport as they couldnt be kept overnight but Ozzy has never met him before. He got them home but when he let them out in the garden the next morning to go to the toilet, Ozzy got spooked & ran off. The poor lad was born in Lanzarote so has no idea where he is & from the reports of sightings that we've had, he's panicking like mad. He is microchipped & I've transfred the address over to our new one today so hopefully he will get picked up & traced from that. All the local police stations, dog wardens etc are aware of him.  We've already put up loads of posters but have just had a phone call of a sighting in a different area last night so we're heading over there now to put up more. If I think of anything else, I will let you know thanks again Poor Ozzy, thanks for replying so quickly.  Great that posters are getting up and the Chip Co have been made aware and details updated.  Will email Scenting/Mapping Instructions now.  Fingers crossed he is found soon and in the blue.  Jan x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
