Guardsman
Sharon, thank you so much. The more postering that can be done around the area the better. Fingers crossed that he will be home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you again for your non stop help. The huntsman went back to Lynton yesterday, where there was a possible sighting, and spent the evening looking for Guardsman. No luck, but there is apparently a large amount of woodland in that area, so quite difficult to cover the area. We will keep looking. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The local DW is an absolute star, a dog lover who is a huge help with missing local dogs, she appreciates what owners are going through, and is very supportive. She has just rung , and gave me the number for Radio Devon, which ive passed on to the kennells.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a lovely phone call from an MFH of the Exmoor, she said that Exmoor is such a close knit community, if Guardsman is seen they will be contacted straight away. That is very reassuring.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dws are aware, so are adjacent packs and rescue centres . The place Guardsman went missing from is North of his kennells  not very far at all. If the sighting is him, he is moving Eastwards, away from there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ive passed on the poss sighting details and suggested they poster Exmoor heavily, emailed lots of info and asked if adjacent packs could be informed too. Thanks for this Daisymay, well done you ! x Lets hope its Guardsman. Stay safe boy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is not much help, I know, but, talking to people round me, it seems a pale coloured hound was seen alone on Wednesday last. The reason no one took much notice was that the Exmoor Foxhounds were out that day too, so everyone assumed... It may or may not have been Guardsman. If it was, this was on Exmoor, just inland from Lynton. I wondered if he might try to make his way home - stranger things have happened. I feel it might be worth trying some dog wardens and hunt kennels between here and his home kennels. I don't have the numbers but someone on here will. The best of luck anyway.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Guardsman
Thank you everybody for your help and advice. I knew I could rely on the Doglost team to come up with some good ideas. Guardsman is on loan from one of the Gloucestershire packs, so he will be unfamiliar with his surroundings. The staghounds have emailed his poster around their email tree. He is a friendly hound and is possible that he has been picked up by someone holidaying on Exmoor. The locals would know where the hunt kennels are.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I feel bad about this one - I've had quite a lot to do with foxhounds  - they're fairly savvy creatures but they are used to the pack - he must be lonely. I am really sorry I can't go round postering at the moment, but I could get a few out to the stables near me where at least some of the regulars are from the Barnstaple/ Arlington area, and the local garage. So please send poster - I'll do my best.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Me again. There is the North Devon Animal Ambulance service in Barnstaple. Rther hope this doesn't help because it tends to be injured animals, but it has a 24 hour number for animal rescue. 07817 995751Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thought of one other number to try and that's Arlington Court (National Trust property). It's closed but has a warden 01271 851121. It also has stables etc. there must be people around - he might have gone there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dog warden 01271 388870 Dogs Trust kennels 01271 812709 Most people round here finding a hound would probably assume he's from one of the Exmoor packs (I assume he isn't). Staghounds are 01643 831262 and I can't find the Foxhound number anywhere - no doubt one of the above has it. Don't know who else to suggest. Maybe National Park 01398 323665 None of these is that near Barnstaple, and if he's gone towards the town I'm at a bit of a loss. It's just that when we had a farm on Exmoor, stray hounds were fairly common - they'd come to a farm, and we'd ring the hunt kennels! Don't know if this helps at all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This hound is missing in an area he does not know, he is on loan from another pack. The kennels have been emailed a poster, Ive suggested they get an alert out on their early warning system to farmers in the area. At least he is tatood and stands a better chance of being reuinited.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
