RUFUS FOUND SAFE AND WELL ! - After exactly 1 week on the loose the Dog Warden managed to pick up Rufus in the wooded area next to M5 near Whitminster at about 4pm this afternoon. He has been checked over by the vet and apart from looking very thin and a small wound on his hind leg he is fine! He is now settling back in at home with us. This is a FANTASTIC ending to our week long search! - Thank you so much for all the help we have received, everyone has been fantastic. THANK-YOU AGAIN !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rufus is home!!!  So very pleased !! Police and dog wardens caught him by the side of the motorway. Dan has him in the vets as we speak and im sure will update later. I think,  he is ok , probably just minor things. Welcome home lovely Rufus, huge thanks to Flaggbagg and Old Grey lady for searching. Hope you are feeling better now OGL. xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to people at a property adjoining the fields where 'sighting' of Rufus last might.  They have a fawn boxer lass who was is often loose there - and she was in the fields last evening, with farmer's permission.  Owner will obviously know his dog, but just wonder if light was very poor and hence difficult to recognise.  Need to wait for comments from family.  Meanwhile, more posters have gone out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to owner briefly this morning and just come in from a couple of hours walking the same area he was seen last night.  Nothing of note - cows all quiet, checked some barns of the wood-stripping place on the corner of the lane near-by and all area behind Whitminster Inn with their knowledge.  Teckels not heard any more. There is a car with open door parked quietly - presume farmer's permission - for him, as blanket and food in the back.  Food appears not to have been touched at 11.15am. Gong back later with more posters for cars, with warning on 'not to approach directly etc etc'Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have sent Rufus owner scenting instuctions and offer of a trap if needed...a trap is not always the solution try scenting first...but always be vigilant so you can get there ASAP after you get a sighting...scenting is teriffic when you have a sighting as could keep Rufus in that area for you to intice ...but be careful not to spook him dont go shouting out his name etc will you.and not too many peeps please all low key is best.Good Luck xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to owner Dan this morning. Given scenting instructions and more ideas.  Arranging to get trap down there today.  Sightings all seem to be same time so think he is lying low during the day.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We think we have spotted Rufus ourselves! - in the fields behind the Whitminster hotel at between 6.30 and 7pm yesterday. We were about 20 yards away but when we called him he ran off. He was limping and disappeared into the hedgerow, we searched the area until it was dark. We left my car in the field all night with the door open in the hope that he will recognise it, we put food and his stuff inside in.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The place he has been spotted is directly behind Teckels, owners have put some food down and bedding and his favourite toy, tied down to a post. Fingers Xd, its a busy area, ive alerted Teckals.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is great news. Take some clothing/bedding to the area, that Rufus will hopefully be attracted to by the scent.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

At about 8pm on Monday (20th April) we had 3 reported sightings of a boxer on the embankment of the M5 near Whitminster (northbound side) about 1/3 mile north of junction 13.  One was by the Traffic Officer who patrols there and another by a driver was able to show me exactly where he saw him go back into a wooded area.  We were there soon after but could not find him and it was soon dark. Hopeful of more sightings in that area today.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

owners have no internet access at moment, but will try and give an update soon. Someone said they had seen this dog clipped by a car the night he went missing, but the owners friend saw him from a distance the next evening so presumed he is ok... owners postered and searched most of day.  i searched surrounding areas but nothing to report no sightings at all.  will be out tomorrow searching again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have heard today this sighting may not have been Rufus, but a similar type of dog to a Boxer, that lives in that area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rufus was sighted yesterday on a farm  yesterday between Eastington and Whitminster at 3pm.  Flaggbag is off to that area today to check area, and poster [Thanks FB] owner has been postering around and  out searching. Suggest leaving food down and some of owners/dogs bedding if you can pinpoint spot where he was sighted, as a familiar smell might attract him back. Good luck !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
