Sorry forgot to say Thank You to all who gave suggestions, I have also bought her some conditioning tablets, and was told a mineral supplement might help but holding off on this, i have bach flower remedy in the first aid box, will try her with some of it, i have high hopes that we will crack this one by he weekend now, .........Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok bought her both raw minced chicken and raw minced tripe today, gave her bowl the chicken one, she loves it, so for now i will feed her with these two foods but still offer her the dry mix, is it normal for a season to start 6 - 8 weeks before expected, she was due middle to end june, going to get her back to vets if this is abnormal, my next questio is how much meat should i give herjust now, i have never fed raw meats before, she used to only have dry mix with occasional can wet meat as treat, my princess will be 3 yrs old on saturday, going to get spoilt i think, lol, she has new toys and new jacket for wet days, SylviaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have you considered looking at herbal remedies to maybe help?? Bach flower remedies or something like that. look at the problems listed then match up with something to help- not that expensive either!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sylvia I'm really pleased she has eaten something at long last. Just try giving her little and often at first so you don't overload her tummy. You will soon find she will get her appettite back and before long will be back to her old self. Take care. AlisonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Raw minced tripe is great advice as it'll help her put some weight on as well. Liver is always a winner as well, or black pudding as a tempting interest on the meat.....or you could try to sprinkle a beef/chicken stock cube over the meat to add extra flavour Many dogs don't eat wet food so don't worry too much on that just make sure you get a good complete food.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do hope Spangles gets better soon, poor girl. Have you tried her with raw minced tripe? If you cant stand the smell of it, what about Butchers Tinned Tripe. Good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Alison and Reynard, I went out and bought her new dishes from Pets at Home last week because i thought maybe the dishes are the prob now, but tonight i think i have found the reason she doesnt want the food i give her, she has eaten the dry mix on its own, but refused to eat the meat, i put them in sep dishes to see if she will eat any thing, and totally refused the meat, i put some cat meat in another dish she wolved it down, so tomorrow i will go buy her some dif meat, cant believe she doesnt want the meat  (its pedigree best by nature) so she is hungry poor thing i have been starving her without knowing it, she has lost lot weight now, she is happily munching away on a carrot,    I really do appreciate the help you have both offered, (oh i dont have hubby any more, i sold him lol)  once again thank you......... It would seem Spangle is depressed so she has no real interest in her food she takes it from your hand because she wants to please you remember you or your husband are the leader of her pack and she is taking it because of that ... the real test is to make her interested in food again and most dogs will take chicken in some form or other usualy cooked, best chicken mind no cheap stuff .
There could also be an issue with the bowl I have four rescue springers all of which have been badly treated one of which has an issue with a bowl perhaps he was hit with it or previous owners gave him food that was hot anyway he does not trust his bowl so you could try a different one or leave the food on the floor.
The other point if you over compensate for her you are reinforceing the fact she is depressed  & scared etc...so try to be normal as possible don’t let her see you are upset don’t over pet her I know its hard as you feel so sorr for her and of course you are so glad to have her back.
I am no expert mind you so I could be completly off ...I will also pose the queston on It’s a Springthing which is a fab forum for springers or indeed you could do this yourself...but I hope this and other advice will get her back to near normal as possible soon.xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Sylvia thank you for the update. As long as Spangle has a clean bill of health from the vet there is nothing to worry about. She has been severely traumatised and it will take time before she gets fully back to normal. You say that she will eat from your hand so have you tried holding her food bowl for her to feed from. It could be that she is too scared to take her eyes off you after being snatched. When dogs refuse to eat it is very upsetting and we tend to pamper them by hand feeding or even trying them with different foods but my vets advice was to just put the food down and leave it for 10 minutes only. If after the end of the 10 minutes it hadn't been eaten then pick it up and don't offer anymore food until the next meal time. Most dogs will start to eat again after starving itself for a couple of days. Hope this helps. I will ask other co-ordinators if they could post advice for you on her page.  AlisonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi just to let you know that Spangle is settling back into our home, i cant believe our traumatised she has been, she still isnt eating properly, there is no reason for her not rto eat becauseshe will eat if hand fed, or given treats / titbits, i am not giving her any different now to what she had before,  so any advise greatfully taken........Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Great to see Spangle is home with her family.  It will take her a while to settle back home, she will have been traumatised; just give her plenty of reassurance and TLC which we are sure she will be getting.  Well done to all involved in getting her home.  Welcome back Spangle.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am so emotion still, cant believe we have our princess back, both myself, son and our kitten are thrilled to have her back, a great big THANK YOU to Alison for going above and beyond the normal expectations of any volunteer, Yesterday we set off to see my dad, (3hrs min travel each way) whilest there i turned my laptop on and was told by a friend that Spangle's story was in the Echo (local newspaper), i went online to see the story, anyway we set off bk home at 5.30pm, on 2nd train and 20 mins from home i went to get my mobile to ring a taxi, no phone, i had left it at my dads, anyway at 8.30am this morning 22.3.09 Alison rang me said I had a telephone call yesterday from ****** to say we think we have Spangle, can you come now and get her, Alison drove over an hour there only sadly to get there to late the caller was not home, (Alison tried to get in touch with me, but because i didnt have my mobile wasnt able to get hold of me, and i wasnt home, till nrly 10pm,) Alison left posters with neighbours and they had tried to help Alison, but sadly Alison then drove over hr home again, 5 mins after this call from Alison this am, the phone rang agan, it was ****** saying i think i have your dog, anyway he said i will bring it back to you, which he did 1hr and 15 mins later,   Spangle whilst clearly happy to be home is traumatised, very nervous, not eating, even refused some roast pork, i will be taking her to vets tomorrow, she has been out for a walk with us but reacted weirdly on way to field so i feel that i have been able to pinpoint the exact snatch point, i am concerned about her as she is not herself, but my son is totally over joyed to see her back, and the kitten even went to bed earlier something she hasnt done since monday night,  Spangle and Pebbles are right this minute snuggled up together at side of my chair, we are a complete family again, its the best Mothers Day pressy ever and an early extra birthday pressy for me, I want to say THANK YOU ALISON heck i want to shout it from the rooftops, THANK YOU to all the Co-ordinators without whom this site wouldnt be able to run, Thank You to everyone for the support, messages, prayers etc, I wish everyone of the lost dogs on this site were as lucky to be found and returned as fast as my baby girl was, but i do hope all the lost dogs are found and safely reunited with their mum n dad, and also the found dogs are reunited...... Also Thank You to the Lady who phoned Alison and told her we have Spangle, Thank you to the gentleman who brought her home to us....... Spangle will be 3yrs old on 4th April, and now we can celebrate it....   THANK YOULast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whooo Hoooo !!  Thankyou to the Lincolnshire Echo for printing the story, and to Ashmark for all your hard work, over and above the call of duty. So thrilled to get your text earlier to say that Spangle was indeed home. What a great feeling. I hope she will be feeling better tomorrow, and more like herself. It must have been a great shock for her to find herself in strange hands. Hopefully small meals with extra tastey morsals will bring her appetite back, otherwise maybe a trip to the vet might be on the agenda in case she has eaten something she shouldnt have. Will await the story with interest. Welcome home Spangle xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank goodness this little girl is home safely.   So sorry she is traumatised, hopefully with lots of TLC she will be back to normal soon.   Look forward to hearing more, do hope she is feeling better soon, bless her.   Family must be so relieved to have her back, especially owner's son, I know how important are these best friends to our disabled family members.   Welcome home Spangle, lovely girl xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Someone saw the article in the Lincolnshire Echo yesterday and called to say they had the dog. This is being followed up and I will post an update as soon as there is any news.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A reporter from the Lincolnshire echo rang me today. They are going to run a story on Spangle because she was stolen once before and they featured her in the paper then. The owners son is autistic and is really missing Spangle. let's hope that the article will bring some clues as to her whereabouts.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After setting printer to print off 100 posters overnight i came down yesterday morning to find out my printer wasnt printing correctly, all the posters were done on photo paper as well so i was well gutted, (this paper wasnt cheap) so i went to town and bulk ordered thousands of flyers and posters, last night i sorted out the printer, (prob was due to another print program resetting settings), Already today we have the flyers going to Sleaford, Derby, Nottingham, and of course Lincoln will be well covered, The poster pic has even gone to america, canada, australia, you never know who they might talk o in this country whose neighbour may just have aquired a new Springer, My so is totally gutted, barely sleeping and he is severely disabled, cant understand where his beloved dog has gone Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner has now managed to get a crime number from police. She is getting  flyers printed in bulk and will be distributing them between Lincoln and Sleaford over the weekend. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A4 poster and flyers created and emailed to both owner and Ashmark. Use the flyers as handouts and for posting through doors. I do hope they help get Spangle home. Good Luck x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Copied from circumstances box :- Believed stolen. If you stand behind Spangle and look from tail to head there is a brown heart shape in the middle of her back.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh Dear !! This sounds uncomfortably familiar. Owners must make the police take it seriously and very important they get a crime number. Very good advice to tie up with all the other recent stolen dogs. This individual or individuals will come a cropper soon - and will get caught out. Hope its soon.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to owner. She went to take her dog out last night and as the dog ran into field ahead of her it just disappeared. THERE WAS A WHITE VAN NEARBY. Police have been informed but they don't want to know. Owner was out searching all last night and again this morning. Photo has been sent to admin. As soon as it is on site I will email a copy and list of useful contact details. Have given her the contact details of Fizz, Tammy and Pegs owner so they can help each other as they are fairly close. Spangle, what a lovely name, was wearing a new, black harness when she disappeared.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
