Actually after I checked it does seem that taking a dog TO Belgium is not that hard ..... see ... http://www.diplobel.us/GoingToBelgium/PetCatDog.htm#Identification for further info - Jayne did the owners inform Belgian Police? as well as Great Yarmouth?

A dog being shipped without a pet passport? The ports are VERY hot on checking pets going out as well as coming in to the country. If they try to conceal her then I would think if you alert the port authorities to the possibility of a stolen/smuggled pets being exported they will pay even more attention. This sounds rather like a red herring to me to try to convince the owner to stop looking in her area and call of the search in England.

Owner has been told that Hazel is on her way to be sold in Antwerp, Belgium and will be shipped out via Great Yarmouth-please cross post. We are doing automatic mailing to Great Yarmouth area now to alert helpers.

Will ammend the posters to read ?500. Print out the posters and display in places as discussed yesterday-if no feed back we can always do the wider range automatic mailing-just give us a call. Good luck-he is a lovely looking dog. Naomi who posted earlier is Border Terrier mad and circulates missing dogs to all her BT contacts.

Hazel's owners can be contacted on 07966 319626. Hazel has been known to wander off before but always comes back.
