Lisa, Ditto what Michelle says! Sham is such a beautiful looking boy I wouldn't be at all surprised if some unsuspecting family or elderly couple have adopted him and are loving him and spoiling him rotten. It breaks my heart reading 'owners' comments over their missing dogs! Try to keep positive - Sham is out there somewhere! The best of luck and Happy Birthday Sham for the 14th!! Lisa Please try not to give up hope, I know it's been such a long time since Sham went missing. Try to hold on to the hope that he is being looked after by someone and hopefully one day soon he will be returned to you. I am so feeling your pain with you, hang in there friend you are doing really well under the circumstances. Happy Birthday Sham wherever you are xx Lisa have you tried coverage from either Calender or Look North? It may be worth a try, now that Sham has been missing for so long they just may take up your story. If you need a chat or any help at all please let me know xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa, Ive just heard from the RSPCA........They dont have email addresses for vets either!!! So......I will deliver either by hand or post some. Oh by the way, I went to Thornbury yesterday and there was a dog in there who just looked like Sham, except the dog had a long tail. I cant tell you how excited I got (that was before the dog turned round and I saw the long tail) He's out there somewhere, come on Sham, Give us a sign!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa Hall Court vets in Dinnington do not have a poster up it many be worth putting one there as well as Hall Court in Handsworth. Make sure all boarding kennels in the area have one up as well. I have now posted you that newsletter and other 200 where handed out at Pets At Home in Rotherham last weekend but will keep getting more out Take Care, JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes Lisa u could send some to your local doctors surgeries. I think it would be a good idea to get some out there where people can see them. I still think that he's been picked up by an elderly person, and I think thats why you havent seen him and sighting have been very few and far between theres always a chance that someone could have seen him in a pensioners house (home helps, relatives etc). Still not heard anything form the RSPCA yet after the email I sent them last night, but i;ll keep you posted. Hang on in there mate xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lisa ive managed to find the springfield vets emails adress and sent them a poster ( to the Moorgate one) Ive also emailed the RSPCA to ask if they have email adresses of vets in south yorkshire, quoting doglost and Sham in particular, so now im just waiting to hear from them. If i dont have any luck in the next few days I will print off some posters and deliver them by hand to every vet i pass on my travels. We'll get there mate, don't worry xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

michelle, that would be brilliant,i have phoned several vets locally on a regular basis and have made numerous attempts over the past 9 weeks to e mail a poster to ALL vets but i cant find any e mail addresses, only a 'pet-list' so ive e mailed the person who runs this and asked them how to e mail a poster to all the vets and i have had no reply, that was at the beginning of this month.this was the only thing i could think of as i couldnt possibly, physically take a poster to every single vets surgery!!!but yes, sham at some stage will be taken to a vet with his age!!!but yeah, your help would be priceless!!thank you xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lisa, I went in to Crookes vets yesterday with my kiddies hamster, did you send any posters to vet surgeries in Rotherham and the surrounding areas? They have a huge notice board in there and it was almost empty! I could do some emailing for you if you like to all vets in south yorkshire(thats if you havent already), would this help you? xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still thinking of you - oh and I just realised that my local shelter has regiular 'deliveries' of dogs from other ares - apparently they move dogs across the country to increase the chances of them being rehomed so you may have to search wider! Have you emailed the NCDL (now The Dogs Trust?) they are local to me - Shoreham . Best Wishes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa The main rehoming centres in our area are RSPCA in Sheffield, Thornberry Animal Santuary in Dinnington, Cliffe Kennals on the edge of Barnsley and Hampole Kennals in Rotherham, you could also contact Sheffield Dog Rescue but if a dog has been picked up they usually go through Hampole or Cliffe where they are kept for a minimum of 7 days and then either to dog rescues or are rehomed from their kennals so it would be worth going in person to all four places and make sure they display your poster and also have a look round whilst you are there just to make sure they have not overlooked him. Newsletter will be going out on Saturday at Rotherham show so lets hope someone recognises him JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think the best ways would be Yellow Pages under kennels or boarding kennels. Try every Vet that's in Yellow pages and ask them if you wanted a rescue dog , where would you go. Other Phone directories, like Thompsons, Dog Wardens, they'd know. Even out of your area. Happy hunting. EddieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sham, I wish you well in your search, but I did ask you before, have you BEEN to ALL the kennels that do rehoming within 20 m of where Sham went missing? I say that because his two photo's varied quite a lot to those who've never met him and I wonder whether he's still there looking for a home or has he already been rehomed. I didn't know he had a docked tail..... it isn't in his write up, but it is obvious in the second photo. Also in the first photo he looked quite a biggish dog, but not in the second one. Please go look, armed with posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi thanks naomi and michelle,i am going to send posters to all kennels etc in south yorkshire just in case he has been overlooked,i will take some to surgeries too.I have been feeling as though i am flogging a dead horse lately, after having such high hopes from the article in the rotherham record,i have heard nothing at all and am now faced with the possibility that he is a lot further away than i thought,my hope is low and with each day that further passes i fear even more that i will never be reunited with my little boy.as always your support is priceless thank you xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa, had two days out and about around Rotherham, no seen Sham or any dog that looked like him. But he is out there somewhere! I think that my theory about Sham being taken in by an elderly person might be true. Iv'e got an idea!!! Why don't you put some posters in your local doctors surgery waiting rooms if they will allow you? If an elderly person does have him there's always a possibilty that either a relative, nurse, doctor etc could have seen him in someones home. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I understand how you must be feeling Lisa and I sympathise with you so much. Sham will have probably been taken in by an old dear, who hasn't got access to a computer and doesn't get out much, It's got to be something like that, he can't just disappear. Why don't you try the Doncaster Free Press and Sheffield Star newpapers they may be able to help you. I know it must be really hard for you Lisa, but don't give up hope, I'm sure one day you will be reunited with Sham , hopefully very soon. Take care friend xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi michelle-good to hear from u-no not had any positive leads from the advert,in fact nothing has given me any hope over the past 7 days!im feeling really negative at the moment as i need publicity and after spending 5 weeks trying im just very disappointed that the record isnt helping me,i had all of my hopes pinned on that and i am now just feeling empty and have the feeling that im never goin to see my baby boy again!!sham did have lots of brown patches on his face but since that photo,he has gone grey, well white really!!the perils of age!!! i may change the photo as i have ones which are clearer, will need to speak to jayne bout that.thank you for your continued supportxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa, how are you feeling? I know thats a daft question, but I just wanted to let you know that i'm thinking of you.Have you had anymore sightings or any response from the press release in the Rotherham advertiser? I think that Runfold-eddie does have a point about the picture of Sham, he does look like he has a tan face on the pic. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You must now start moving your search further out. TAKE copies of his photo to boarding kennels, vets, rehoming centres, dog groomers and LOOK at the dogs that need homes. Maybe your description doesn't match theirs. Take a selection of snaps with you. All this perhaps 20m in every direction from where you live. The more I look at his photo on the poster Sham, I'm convinced he's got a tan face. Pale perhaps, even a cream, but not white. I wish you success.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

well my hopes for the rotherham record fetching my boy home have been dashed,i spoke to them yesterday and they have now told me that they cant guarantee that my article will go in the paper as there is lots of other news that has to go in!!!i was told,in fact, promised that it would be in there and am totally gutted!!!its a free paper that goes thro evry door in rotherham and my hopes were pinned on it.i have now exhausted my options and have no idea of what to do next to try and bring my son home, its not looking good right now after having such a positive week,i now feel that all hope is lost.he has vanished!!!5 weeks today!!!xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi everyone, just to update, hopefully sham will be going in this weeks rotherham record,a free paper which is delivered through evry letterbox in rotherham,if not this week it will be next week.had a really tearful day yday, repeatedly having to take myself off the floor at work.i believe that these sightings over the last week have not been my boy, just dogs that look like him.the lady who phoned me last sunday phoned again yeaterday to say that she had seen him again,i asked how long his tail was and it was long!!unfortunately, this was the dog i was looking for during my search on sunday!i have 1000 posters ready to use but will hold them back until the advert has been in the paper so all i can do now is keep my fingers crossed for the article.thinking then of trying to get an advert in doncaster, sheffield and barnsley local papers.that will then cover south yorks(even tho sham has already been in the star newspaper).Day 33 thinking of you always my baby i love you xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

oh my head!!!! got another call from a lady in wickersley which is very close to me,she has contacted me through the rotherham advertiser and although isnt 100% certain says she has seen a dog fitting shams description this morning at 11:00 am,he had a blue collar on,white legs and a black back.she followed him in her car and tried to coax him to her but he ran off.she says he was running across the road and was obviously lost.she also said that her daughter has seen the same dog many times over the weekend.i have been out for the past 2 hrs searching the area but have seen nothing.this is quite close to my house so there are posters already up in the area and another article will be in the rotherham record tmoro which will go into homes in that area.my head is spinning and i really feel today like i could just break down.all these calls are good but at the same time i am getting possible sightings all over the place which is making my head spin.there is no way of knowing whether these dogs are sham or not and HOW ON EARTH DO I DEAL WITH THIS!!!!i have had lots of positive feelings over the last 7 days and have managed to carry on living but it doesnt take much to knock you back down again does it!i miss him so much and my head just doesnt know where it is today.PATRICK,HOW DID YOU DEAL WITH ALL THIS?xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ok here we go,just had a phone call from a chap in kimberworth in rotherham (again!!!!!),who says he is certain that a dog he saw on saturday on rhodes avenue in kimberworth was sham.this sounds good!he said he had a blue collar on,short hair and short tail, had a brown patch on his front leg and was with another dog who was black and had longer hair.he said the dog was male as sham is.his description was very accurate.the only frustarting thing is that if the advertiser had put my tel.no in like i asked them to,this chap would have been able to contact me immediately but thank god for this site as he managed to track me down through this as my number is on it.he also said that the dog appeared bto be holding his leg up as if he was injured.i have put posters in kimberworth but not around this specific area of kimberworth PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET THIS BE SHAM!!!its so frustrating he could be anywhere now!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Sham, I'm only here to offer encouragement, as I know only too well how hard this is for you. My dog went missing for nearly 7 weeks and we did get him back. That 4-6 week period was the darkest time of all, you feel you've done everything you can, and you're dog is now in the hands of fate, and so it is, you've publicised well and persistently. Now you need to Believe and Breathe. I stuck posters on the windows of my car too, and when I was out searching the sightings areas, I had people coming to talk to me about my dog, it kept the local people involved. Some of them also had remarkable tales to tell of their own lost dogs reunited. One was a whippet which had been lost for a whole year, and many other seemingly hopeless cases. Just don't give up, I always felt that if telecommunication could play a part, then Casey had to know that I wasn't giving up on him. On a more practical level, my result eventually came about when I offered a substantial reward. Keep well Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Runfold-Eddie:
I know this seems pernickety, but in Shams photo he looks Tricolour. The description is b/w. If he is a Tri then maybe people have overlooked him thinking you were only looking for a b/w? I've posted his details on a Showdog list, an Obedience list and a Behaviour list. These are dedicated dog people and you never know what they'll come up with. Ed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't give up Lisa, I know its really difficult and 4 weeks is a long time, but try to keep positive (as difficult as it may be). Someone, somewhere has to have taken him in, someone who hasn't seen the posters and thought he was a stray and taken him in. Did he have a name teg/address/telephone number on his collar?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi ive just been woken by a lady who says she might have seen sham this morning at 8:40 am,she said she saw a dog matching the description of sham she saw on a poster at rotherham market, the only thing she was certain about was that this dog was old and had a lump on his eye!however, she is not sure of the length of his tail or the colour of his collar???!!she was driving in her car and sighted the dog crossing the road at the co-op(dishmans)in kimberworth.bit unsure as to whether i should have a saunter round kimberworth or not, sham doesnt look old only in his face and could have well acquired a lump in the last few weeks but she couldnt tell me the colour of his collar or of him!!!!!!?????wot should i do??? xxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lisa, a dog we used to have when I was a child went missing for the first time when he was 15 year old, he left for over two weeks and we eventually found him in the neighbouring village, he was camping on the doorstep of this house where there was this bitch in season. We brought him home and he just kept disappearing back to the house. The moral of this story is, there is still hope and where there is a will, theres a way. I do sympathise with you so much, because heaven knows what I would do. Hopefully the otherham record may provide fruit for you, someone may recognise him and bring him home to you safe and sound. I wish this for you, I really do. Take care xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

well im totally deflated!spoke to the local shop keeper whos had me running round the streets after saying he was SURE he saw sham outside the shop on sunday night. He didnt want to know, said he had better things to do and said he wasnt sure, his story completely changed, even the colour of his collar!from blue to red!so think its time to give up on that sighting!if it had been sham, someone else would have surely seen him and with the shop being very familiar to him he could've found his way home to me.I searched everywhere with my friend and we covered the area within seconds of the call!!thanks jayne for the advice last night will be calling the contact at the star you gave me tmoro and starting on the elderly helps.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

dear sham, i know what you are going through. I lost my beloved 'woody' 12 year old black lab 10 days ago and i too am at my wits end. I have had some sightings and i have just got back at 11.30 at night having spent the last 3 hrs whistling and calling, but nothing. You have to remain very positive and keep busy. Think of all the places where you can easily put up posters that guarantee the maximum exposure to local people. Supermarkets are good, print smaller fliers and tuck them under wipers on cars in car parks, do house to house and become a postman for a day, you have to keep him hot! And remember if you are out calling stay in one place after you called for at least 15 minutes so the dog can get a bearing on you, otherwise you may just turn a corner as he is trying to find YOU! Above all else, the world is full of good kind people, i know how difficult it is when you turn off the light at night, but he is out there somewhere as is my lovely black boy and we will find them. Good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lisa-why not e mail the poster to all the local businesses in your area-just put Rotherham business directory into your search engine or Rotherham chamber of commerce and all the local businesses will pop up with their e mail addresses if they have one-good luck! Remember there is an e mail to a friend facility on the site just below the photo of Sham. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
