Fantastic news. So happy for you
Stay close now Perkin:-) xxx
Is Perkin NEUTERED? As if not may hae gone seeking a mate, and unneutered cats will cross busy roads in their search. If he is neutered he may have been chased put of his own territory by a more dominant cat, and was afraid to come return. I would put Perkin ubder "House arrest" for a few days in case he goes awol again

Check ALL outbuildings, including empty house, and cellars THOROUGHLY in case trapped. Bear in mind too that cats have very flexible spines so they can squeeze into very small spaces (About 2"/3" wide, So has he climbed into a partially opened window, and is now trapped? Exiting can be difficult; it depends on the drop. Always take further checks in outbuilding, as cats can stay very still when trapped. They are renowned for it. Check any decking; trees too. Empty contents of the hoover onto the garden, as his scent will be there; litter contents too. DO NOT leave the litter tray/box outside, as other cats may use it, and it my confuse, and upset the cat. Put some tuna/sardines, or warm chicken in his dish, and call him. Someone may be feeding him (Common problem) Place his UNWASHED blanket into a clean container, along with your scent too. Leave in the garden in a sheltered spot, or hang on the washing line if dry. Take a good walk around the area, holding an object with his scent on, and rattle some Dreamies. Poster around the area, and post flyers through doors too. Post a LOST CAT ad in a National newspaper in case he has climbed into a vehicle which isn`t that uncommon for cats to do. And is there a dominant cat in the area? As sometime they will chase a cat out of it`s own territory. However the chased cat swill nor usually return, until they think it`s "Safe" enough for them to do so. When it`s nightfall, and you are searching use a strong torch as the light will reflect a cats eyes. Paws xd.
