Just a footnote to say that owner thinks Odie has followed the path of the army helicopters which are based nearby.  He is used to them and seems to have stuck to their routes, along with his eagerness to meet another whippet!  He is not afraid of shoots and is a brave little boy but is a bit fazed at the moment.  I'm sure he'll be glad to be back in his mum's bed again tonight though and will be back to normal in a few days.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Absolutely fantastic news to come home to !! So very pleased. I was quite worried with there being a shoot in the area, that it would scare him right away, but obviously knew where there were nice kind people to help him home. Welcome home Odie x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Odie is home!  He turned up at a house where another whippet lived and they were able to put him on a lead.  His details were on his collar so they called owner who went straight out and brought him home.  He is thinner and hungry but otherwise ok.  Welcome home Odie, you are a clever young man to find a pal.  We were very worried about you with the cold weather coming. Stay safe now. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done dottyD we're very lucky you're on board to help nearby.  Odie turned up at the house where he went on Sat. but he legged it quickly when the occupant spoke gently to him and called him by his name.  He is very nervous around people at the moment so if anyone sees him please do not approach or scare him, just report sightings to owner. His bedding and food/water have been left at the house garage for him, as well as the extensive scent trail. He seems to be heading homeward but may go back to the house.  He has returned home in the past but this time he ran off in the opp. direction.  Let's see you home now Odie. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There have been 2 sightings today, one at Charles Tey, where he originally went missing and the next about an hour later at Wattisham Village, which is in a homeward direction.  Odie's owner, laid a scent trail today and also walked the area with Odie's mother, and will relay the trail again tommorrow. There's also a big shoot tommorrow, and everyone will be on the lookout for him Come on Odie, find your way home.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Many thanks Yasa let's hope this brings Odie home. I have printed lots and posted them to owner, also forwarded them to friend in area and have asked a friend who is based at the Airbase to look out for Odie too.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A4 poster and flyers done and emailed to you jimi and to owners. I understand, owners have no printer, but they may be able to forward to a friend, family member, or an office for printing. Hope there is good news tomorrow. Stay safe Odie x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Yasa, that's helpful.  Have been in touch with friend who lives near area he went missing and she has kindly offered to help.  She will go out tomorrow & look around & put some posters up.  There is a shoot there tomorrow and she will contact them and ask them to look for Odie.  The Army go out on exercises on this road and she will ask them if they can look out.  She'll also hopefully get poster up in Army shop.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good news of this sighting, same area. Jimi I have emailed you. But my advice is to owner :- find a safe place around there, to make a nest. Leave some bedding and items of owners clothing, also some diluted urine from owners. Leave also. smelly food such as tripe  or sardines etc.
Important that the safe place is tucked away under hedge, bush, or in a corner somewhere, where dog will feel safe and protected from the elements. As a whippet, he will not like being cold, and will look for somewhere to feel warm.

Good idea to mark the area with owners other dog, and if they could possibly get the car off the road, somewhere near to where he has been sighted, and leave the back open. Place food and his blankets on the ground outside the car, again with owners scent.

They MUST NOT CHASE, but call gently, lie or sit down and whimper, or sing gently. Have a slip lead ready. Cooking  sausages on a portable Bar B que would be a very good enticement, and has brought many a dog back. Also try using his favourite squeeky toy, to draw him to the area, but use it only very quietly if the dog is spotted. remember, gently, gently, catch a monkey x

There has been a SIGHTING of Odie this morning at 8a.m. nr the Wattisham airbase on rd from Ringshall - Wattisham by the row of landing lights.  This is not far from the last sighting so he is still in this area.  I have suggested owner taking Odie's mother to mark the area and also possibly leaving something of his own to keep him in area.  If there are more sightings we could arrange for a trap.  People are being v helpful and a kind man has driven owner around area looking, and showed her woods, old buildings etc. where he may take cover.  Owners are constantly contacting vets, kennels, village folk, etc. Any ideas welcome?  Meanwhile stay safe little boy, we will find you soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good to have Odie's picture now, what a lovely boy.  I will send Poster to owner who does not have printer then they can get more done at PO.  Odie is the brindle dog in the picture.  HE IS VERY NERVOUS please only approach with care if seen and report sightings immediately.  He was last seen at 4pm on Saturday at Charles Tye nr Wattisham airbase runway.  Local people have been informed including Army Airbase, kennels, etc.  Have given advice re more people to call, leaving food out and gate open, etc.  Show yourself, Odie. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Odie is very scared and probably run off if approached. He may come to you if you offer him food. He's a house dog and likes company of other dogs. You may be able trap him by luring into a room with food especially tripe meat.

I'm so sorry Odie has gone missing.   I will make contact with owner tomorrow, meanwhile please contact the kennels which the Councils use for lost dogs, West End Kennels, Buxhall 01449 737641 and Pampered Pets, Hacheston 01728 747760.  Also Mid Suffolk Council 0845 6066067 and Dog Warden 01449 727153 and check to see if he has been picked up.  Keep checking these as they are only obliged to keep dogs 7 days before rehoming them. Also call all local Vets, Police & RSPCA 01473 623280.Call Radio Suffolk 01473 212121 and ask them to put him on air. If you have a picture please email it to admin@doglost.co.uk so we can get a Poster with picture for owner & helpers to put up.  You need to get posters and flyers all around the area, put flyers through doors and hand to milkmen, delivery men, postmen, etc. I have emailed helper who lives near area he went missing. Stay safe little boy till you are found. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
