Hi Majorjet, I do know he's home, you must have missed my post earlier.  I've needed cheering up a couple of times over the last couple of days, and this is where I've come for the cheering.  I have to say my knowledge of dogs is minimal (it's many years now since my last dog died), but I do understand how my blind cats think (I have two and had another til he passed to the bridge), so I was pleased to be able to offer some suggestions.  I hope Jessica will post a reunited picture soon.  Sara xx<br>

Great to see another update on Jake and well said Pam, Sara's advice was so true.  Looking at the posts Sara may not even know he is back home, will send her an email.  It is just a miracle that this lovely boy has survived and is proof how hardy these little terriers are.  Jan x

Thanks so much for the further update ! the kind people that found him are very special people and I just wished there were more caring folk like them in this world ! After i read your post that the finders said he was lying very still and showing no response I recalled the following post made early on when Jake was first missing by catty sara who is the owner of a blind cat .............'I have a cat with no eyes, the same age.  If she ever gets disorientated, and ends up somewhere she doesn't know, she beds right down and you can pass her within feet and she takes ages to respond.'.....................  Hopefully you will be getting Jake a tag now and a tracking device would be good too lol Looking forward to a reunited photo of this remarkable boy xx Pam

I've more or less just arrived home from a very anxious and eager weekend away to be welcomed home by little Jakey. My face has been licked to death with a great stupid grin on it.  I've been in disbelief all weekend that he was home - I needed to see him with my own eyes!
I just spoke with the lovely lady Nicola, who found him. She said he really wasn't moving at first and he wouldn't respond to their voices. Her daughter had to climb over a fence to get to him and she sat with him in her lap until he perked up. When they got him home he was climbing up and down their stairs and holding his own against their dogs! Cheeky monkey!
He's asleep in his bed with Charlie and me close by.
Pictures are on their way :):):)

Bless this precious little lad - what a sweetie. I'm so happy to hear that Jake is back home safe and sound. I wonder what made him go off on his own - do you think he may have been on the scent of a fox? I presume this senior boy will be getting a nice, new shiny tag on his collar as a welcome home present. This reunited story has made my evening!<br>

Jesica - it must be like a dream ! Its so unbelievable the way it panned out at the end, with  the phone call to America, and the amazing people who traced him, probably through this site to you. I can imagine you just want to stay home and cuddle the life out of him. Please give him a kiss from me, and I'm looking forward to your photo. Stay safe and warm now Jake ! bless you x

This is a remarkable story and I'm so pleased for you. It was very lucky that he stayed off the roads and away from the water treatment place though. I bet he'll love all the spoiling he's going to get now!!

Thank you all so much for your support and well wishes! I can hardly believe we have him home safe after he’s been out all this time...

I had a call from my Dad and I asked after Charlie our other dog.  Dad’s response was - "oh, he’s fine, he’s just being followed around by Jake". To which my reaction was disbelief, relief and generally just screaming down the phone!

From what I can remember from Dad telling me, he had a phone call from a gentleman who is in America; his wife and daughters had been out walking their dog and thought they’d come a cross a fox in the middle of a field, not far from our home. It was Jake in the field, he wasn’t moving he was just lying down and still. I believe the lady enquired with another dog walker as to whether she knew of anybody with a lost dog. She said she’d seen posters up all around the town. The next stage I’m not too sure of but I think kind lady phoned her husband and explained the situation and he looked online and found out phone number, from this site!

Dad said he’d lost a lot of weight but had had some food and was tired and was all snuggled up in a duvet. Luckily he had a little weight to lose and it’s kept him going.  He’s definately got into the graveyard, through a hedge into farmland, probably explored around there, then gradually headed further away and over a country road into a field near a water treatment plant.<br>Bless him I’m so proud of him, he’s so brave! I was to spend all day tomorrow out looking for him and now I can just spend the whole day with him and spoiling him rotten! I can’t wait to take the posters down and know it’s been a happy ending. It’s been so bitterly cold this past week and I was starting to lose hope but it just goes to show we can’t underestimate our beloved animals, they have that natural survival instinct and he’s known what to do to survive - I like to think Jake has 9 lives like a cat!

I’ll get some pictures on here as soon as possible, hopefully tonight.

Thank you thank you thank you to all who’ve wished Jake well and willed him home.

Jessica xxx

Jesica whatever media coverage you can get on this, when you know its going in, please email <A href="mailto:admin@doglost.co.uk">admin@doglost.co.uk</A> and ask for Jake to be bumped up again. We all want to see Jake home x

I'm so sorry to hear that Jake is missing, I hope you find him safe and well very soon, will be keeping everything crossed for good news
Media coverage would be great, could you get the Evening Post interested? When Ella went missing we got the Hudds Examiner to run a story
JesicaR
It's been a week now and still no word or sightings of Jake. Phoned the dog warden again; the guy on the phone was quite helpful and had Jake's record to hand but had had no calls or anything about Jake.  Keeping the pressure up in our estate and letting people know he's still not home. I think our local paper will be interested in running an article.  The paper is circulated throughout Pocklington and the surrounding towns and villages so if someone has picked him up and live a bit further afield they'll know who to contact to bring him home.
catty-sara
I'm so sorry you didn't find him.  I wonder if it is worth trying to get some media interest.  The fact that he has no eyes must be "newsworthy" (sorry, I don't mean that to sound trite).  I know whenever we have any press releases etc here and photographers round, my little girl cat without eyes gets lots of attention and interest and has regularly been photographed for the paper when we're doing articles.<br>I may be wrong but I seem to remember that there is someone on doglost who could advise re media coverage.<br>I don't know a lot about dogs, but I do know that cats get dis-orientated in windy weather - and I'm talking sighted cats here - so it is possible that dogs do too.<br>I woke up at 4am today and (amongst other things) found myself thinking about him.  I hope he is safe and sound, and soon back with you.<br>
JesicaR
Well, no luck in the graveyard. Dad searched everywhere. My mum also searched for an hour and a half just in the graveyard. Dad spotted quite a few holes in the hedge which would go back through to houses on our estate. Hopefully people will see our many posters really really soon.
JesicaR
Thanks again Sara.  My Dad is going again to look today. We're not convinced he could have gone further than the graveyard, he's so homely. Unless a visitor to the graveyard has picked him up to keep him well we're really stuck for other possibilities. Posters have gone up all around the town centre and lots of fliers too. Putting more out there tonight.
He seemed a little out of character or disorientated before going outside - does anyone know why this might occur in older dogs? He could have just woken up and been dosey but that doesn't explain why he would venture through the hedge - it really can't have been easy to do. I called for him for an hour as soon as I realised he was gone and that was literally 10 mins max after he went outside. It was terribly windy, I wonder if that might've thrown my voice?
catty-sara
The other thing I thought about when I was worrying about him earlier - sorry this may sound gruesome - because he went into a graveyard, have you checked for any holes by burrowing animals or (sorry) collapsed graves where he could have fallen?  Maybe ask the church officials if they are aware of any?  Really really hope the little fella is OK.  Sorry I am too far away to help.<br>
JesicaR
We've printed and distributed posters around some of the local businesses (including newsagents) during the day today.  I have alerted some of my colleagues at work who live in Pocklington and the surrounding area.  Going out to housing estates to deliver flyers and to poster around the town this evening.  No potential sightings as far as we are aware, so far.

Jesica thanks for updating us and welcome on board DL.  Thanks Sara for the advice greatly appreciated.
A4 poster and various smaller ones with both photos on, SCENTING instructions, list of rescues and further advice emailed to Jesica hope these help in the search for Jake and we see him in the BLUE soon.  Good luck.
If anyone is able to help with the postering please let us know and we can email the posters to you.
Thanks, Jan x

Over the past few days we've contacted local vets, our nearest RSPCA centre (York), local dog warden (Beverly) local kennels and farms just near us.  Eager to put up posters and also contact wardens etc outside of our local area next.  Was really reassuring to talk with Jan and got valid suggestions/tips about things I wouldn't have thought of.
Thanks Sara that's really valuable advice.  It's so easy to get panicky and think the worst rather than to think practically like that.  I'm going to go out now and take time to stay still and cover area with my voice. Many thanks.  I'll keep updating. X
catty-sara
Hi,  I have a cat with no eyes, the same age.  If she ever gets disorientated, and ends up somewhere she doesn't know, she beds right down and you can pass her within feet and she takes ages to respond.  We find the best way to find her is to quarter the ground, then stand still for five minutes singing or talking softly.  If no response move another five feet or so, and do the same thing.  Maybe turning gently on the spot so you cover a bigger area with your voice. And pause and listen.   I know cats are different to dogs, but I have such a soft spot for the little ones like this with no eyes.<br>

Have spoken to Jesica and given some advice.  Jake has wandered from the back garden, into graveyard; farmland's nearby have been getting contacted.  Discussed SCENTING, contacting DW's and Vet's in area and surrounding areas.  Will send usual posters a.s.a.p.  Jesica will update us shortly.  Jan x
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
I am so sorry to see that Jake has gone missing. Please make sure you contact all local dog wardens, stray kennels and vets.  By law stray kennels only have to keep a dog for 7 days before rehoming or sending them on to a rescue so if you can please visit them in person to make sure Jake is not there. Poster as much and as widely as you can to make as much public awareness as possible. Hoping you have some news of Jake very soon xx Pam
