Shaunna is now thankfully home with us after an extremely traumatic weekend in County Durham where she was stolen. My worst fear was/is to have one of my beautiful dogs stolen and it happened on a very ordinary walk on Saturday morning. The assumption that only men/lads/boys steal dogs is incorrect. On this occasion, a man and woman were involved in the theft - which feels more like a kidnapping from where I'm sitting.
Retrospectively, my family and I felt/feel that the chances of her being reunited with us was very slim. We shall never know the how's, the why's or the wherefore's, but the two possible outcomes are that she was either dumped because she was simply 'too hot to handle' (m/c, tatooed and spayed) or she simply escaped and ran for her dear life.
However, it seems imperative to have some basics in place to deter theft and in this regard 'm so pleased Saluki Rescue tatooed Shaunna and I then had her microchipped and spayed. Once stolen, we jumped immediately into action, conducted a thorough search of the area, got word about in the dog community that she was lost/stolen and then printed/ pinned/handed out posters in the area. The Seaham police were more than useless, but I was deply touched by the support and information I received over the telephone by organisations and charities, such as Dog Lost, Saluki Rescue, Lurcher Search, and The North East Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue.

Shaunna was missing for over 12 hours and we have no idea what happened to her during that period, but whatever it was, it has left her nervous and wary. However, the fighter that she is, we know that she will soon bounce back.Last edited: 2011-09-23 09:14:21 by MacM

Shauuna is known to me and I have spoken to her 'mum' today, she is understandably devastated. I have advised her as to various routes to take and although family and friends are helping in the search any other help nearby would be wonderful. Thank you. Hopefully a picture will be on site soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
