This has been such a sad week - with so many beautiful dogs going to the bridge. I do hope that the owners eventually find out what happened to these beautiful girls. My heart breaks for you at the moment, you must be absolutely devastated. Please take care of your selves, I do not know what else to say words just seem so inadequate at time like this. To clarify a point: no one has so far taken responsibility for the shooting of these dogs. Shots were heard in the woodland by a local farmer. They were not shot by the person who owns the land. I know that area well, used to live there. There are no stock in the woodland where the dogs were found, and it was a lady out walking who found the bodies some time after they had been killed and called Debbie. The situation was illegal, but the police would not act and whether Debbie and her husband feel able to pursue this further is up to them. It would be very hard to prove who did it. I respectfully suggest we give them our condolences and leave them to come to terms with their loss as best they can rather than discussing the legalities any further.

So sorry things turned out like this for these two beautiful dogs, my friend saw them both on the side of the road today, i contacted the local dog warden, and grabbed something to go and cover them both up, but within a few minutes they had gone, contacted the council, and they have now been picked up by the Highways Dept.  Run free at the Bridge xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How sad to lose both like this. I understand the rule is that if a farmer sees a dog worrying livestock he can legally shoot it but must inform the police. If the dogs are just on his land he has no right to shoot them whatsoever and must inform the dog warden or police, try and trace the owner and inform them that the dogs are loose and can give a warning that the dogs will be shot if seen with livestock. Unfortunatly many farmers will shoot dogs and toss them in a ditch to save the hassle of reporting to the police so the owners are lucky that the farmer owned up. I wonder how the farmer managed to shoot both as one would have surely run off when the other was shot? And why didn't he admit it straight away if it was a legal shoot. Doesn't really add up.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Debbie I am so sorry. When I spoke to you the other day you said you feared they may have been shot, can't understand why the farmer didn't own up straight away. My thoughts are with you and your family. Together in this world and the next. RIPLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How very, very sad, poor Lola and Chilli.   Does this mean the farmer lied when he said he hadn't shot them?   We all know farmers have the right to do this if their livestock are being worried, so why not admit to it?   Rest in peace, lovely Lola xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to Debbie, owner of these two dogs. She is doing a wonderful job. Posters have been put up everywhere in the local area and sent out to all vets and rescue centres in a 30 mile radius. Police, dog warden and RSPCA have been notified. Story going in local paper tommrrow. Have suggested she contacts the highways agency and asks the local radio to run a story. She says they jumped her fence and headed towards a local farm but the farmers say they haven't seen the dogs.Debbie is wondering if they have shot the dogs so I have told her to ask the police as I believe farmers are obliged to report any incidents of  shootings.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
