I've been re-reading Willow's pages and just remembered something; it may not be Willow but worth checking into. On 10th August, 2009, I saw a beautiful white lurcher/greyhound that was with a tall, scruffy man at Staple Tye shopping precinct in Harlow. This dog was very ill and I followed them and contacted RSPCA who rescued the dog. It was the same vicinity as Lodge Hall/Spruce Hill. When I asked at a later date about this dog the RSPCA believed (not confirmed) that it was made well and been rehomed. This man appeared to have been sleeping rough. It may be a good idea for owners to contact RSPCA as they could provide more info as the man had to sign over the dog. If it should be Willow at least owners will know she is safe (although it would break my heart to be parted from a beloved dog). Maybe there could be a way forward, you never know. Of course, it may not be Willow at all, but a very similar dog. Won't know till checked it out. Last edited: 2010-08-25 23:21:49 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

I have only just seen Willow's page. Jo wrote on 1/10/08 about a scruffy family with Irish accent. This rang bells with me from ages ago, and, it would have been the same time frame. I live in Harlow but we often go to Sawbridgeworth & Bishops Stortford. On three separate occasions I saw a scruffy Irish family; twice outside Tesco's in B.Stortfd and once outside Sainsburys in Harlow. I specifically remembered them because they had dogs, were suspicious and had accents that I believe were Irish. Two young girls I remember mostly, about 12 and 8, with long dark hair, definitely like gypsies. I went up to them and spoke to them because of the dogs - I was concerned where they got the dogs from and they were worried when I petted the dogs. The dogs were lovely but Willow wasn't there. Something didn't seem right. Another time, they didn't have any dogs. I never saw the man. I haven't seen this family for a year, but I can't be specific. If I ever do, I will try and follow them - just in case. I would urge you to try and check out all the gypsy official sites and unofficial ones. Quite often travellers return in time - keep your eyes peeled. Also, never go alone to a gypsy site. Take a council or police officer with you. But, please don't give up. Wished she'd been chipped. When you get her back you can do that! A dog was found at a Harlow site, a bulldog, he'd been missing for 10 months and it was on a police raid that they found him, so you never know. I am going to poster for Willow around Harlow, Sawbo & B.Stoftfd. In case you get phone calls, remember you need to see the dog before you trade! There is a gypsy site where there was a sighting - Spruce Hill/Lodge Hall way. I would try and check that out if I were you. I will poster around there, even although its nearly 2 years, you never know! Thing is no one can really see the dogs at the sites unless you get in - maybe worth talking to the dog warden or gypsy liaison officer in Harlow council. Hi this is to Willows owner, my dog Jessica was taken from us from a place called Little Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire the reason for my contacting you is someone pointed out the uncanny resemblance between our 2 dogs.  Jess is only 9 months old and like yourself I am desperate to get her back and because of the resemblance it was suggested that I should get in touch.  If you want to chat more please e-mail me on quirrobe@aol.com.  Maybe we can pull together on this as I live so far away from where Jess was taken.  Good luck in finding Willow I know how hard this process is.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A similar looking lurcher (although younger and possibly smaller) has also been stolen from outside a shop, about 20 miles away in Hatfield Herts. She is listed on our site also - Jess (dog id 15937). Please also consider her against any possible sightings/found reports as the description is close. I have asked Jess's owners to do the same for Willow.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bumped up due to extra media coverage and recent sighting. Info has come in this week regarding a sighting of a dog matching Willow’s description seen in Harlow last Wednesday (5th). It was loose and approached a lady walking a dog and then followed her, at a distance, on her walk. This was on the following route: Lodge Hall to Common Side Road to Maunds Hatch to Spruce Hill (which is the end of the walk back at Lodge Hall). The dog was then seen walking towards Sibney Green from Lodge Hall. Please anyone local who can put posters up in this area, it would be very much appreciated. Lee is currently not in the area so would be so grateful for your help. If you do not have a copy of the A4 poster I have done for Willow I can email it to you. The Police also released the CCTV image of the man seen taking Willow and an appeal was featured in the Essex and Herts Observer. http://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/Launch.aspx?referral=other&refresh=Fo8017Sf5Km0&PBID=27cca4df-1f8e-49c6-a9e6-bfc64e5cc0ce  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Willow has had further media coverage, and there has been a possible sighting in Harlow. I believe this came via the Police. Lee is forwarding me the email with all details tomorrow morning so I will update here then. I will bump Willow up to the top tomorrow once details are available. Fingers crossed this leads to Willow being home very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The posters are getting people looking as Lee has just had a call from a lady who thinks she saw Willow on Thursday being walked by a man along the canal path, by Sheering Lock, Sawbridgeworth. If anyone is in the area - please look out for her and any more postering you can do would be a real help. She really needs to be made too hot to handle!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi there im Leah, lee willow and hazels friend who he was visiting when Willow was stolen.  As you know he had to go down south, i have been talking to him over the phone everyday and checking the doglost site for him as he has no access to the internet.  While he was down south he had some more bad news which he told me about and seemed to be dealing with it ok.  However, i have just recieved msgs from the friends he has been staying with to say that he left early this morning leaving his phone at theirs.  Therefore he will not be able to contact you and vice versa.  If there are any developments on Willow please contact me on 07523807886.  She knows me well and I care about her very much and if she is found, as i told lee, i will be able to look after her until lee can come to get her.  I have been helping with trying to find her so please let me know if there is anything i can do.  Thank you very much for all your help, LeahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad you registered on here Lee and have left a comment. Everyone is really wishing Willow home, and will continue to do all they can to help you. You are doing so well, and your dedication is admirable, and please anyone if you think you may know of someone or you can help with accomodation - incl mobile home/caravan etc, please do post here or contact Lee. I have tried a few places with no joy yet but will continue asking around. Hugs to Hazel Lee, glad she is coping okay without her mum. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, its Lee and Hazel.  Willows carer, I'd like to thank you all for your support.  I am still searching and hoping she will return.  Hazel seems withdrawn but is coping well and so am I.   I came up for a few days to visit a friend and I am camping for winter now until I find Willow.  I am looking for voluntary work in animal rescue centres which would provide accommodation for Hazel and I.  Hopefully within 30 miles of Sawbridgeworth so I can keep close for Willow.  If anyone knows of any rescue centres that could help me, please call me on 07903287539, or leave a comment on this page.  Thank you all, I am very grateful for your help, and good luck to everyone who has lost a dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, the police are actively investigating. I spoke to the owner today and the police have managed to get 2 very clear facial shots of the thieves on the CCTV. These images are being circulated in Hertfordshire and Essex Police forces and then will hopefully be released to press/owner too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks dekkaann. I've alerted Mutts in Distress in Harlow so they are aware and will spread the word. Also have let several helpers in Harlow know and they will of course be on the look out. As soon as we have the photo this afternoon, will circulate Willow's poster to other Essex contacts. As the area is on the boundary of Essex, if anyone has contacts in Herts please do the same if you can. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to the Epping DW today in case they try to run her there. Wonder if the man was caught on any other camera in the area, may even show a vehicle. If the film showed which way he went it may be worth checking other shops, maybe they were parked in a car park which is monitored. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As Jenny has posted below, Willow was stolen from outside Budgens in Sawbridgeworth. She is 3/4 Saluki and 1/4 Labrador. Owner doesn't have internet access himself but he is going to his girlfriends tomorrow afternoon and will email me some photos of Willow from there. The police have been really good. Straight after she was taken, Lee the owner went to Police station and the police lady drove around with him incase they could spot her. They have also looked at the CCTV and it showed a man leading Willow away. This man was also seen in the village earlier (with no dog) with 2 children. The man had an Irish accent and all were fairly scruffy. The same person then saw man + children + Willow shortly later. The police are continuing to investigate so hopefully we have some good news soon. Lee has done a good job contacting all local dog wardens, and postering but would reall appreciate any help people can offer. Willow's sister, Hazel is pining for her and Lee is desperate to get his dog back. He is going to hopefully get some good press coverage too.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner please send a photo to Doglost asap. Stolen dogs can be sold on quickly so it's vital you get posters put up everywhere and make Willow too hot to handle. Thieves usually sell dogs on in the car parks of pubs, clubs and car boot sales so get postering there as soon as possible. Send copies to all vets and rescue centres in your area and don't forget to inform the dog warden. Once a photo is downloaded you can print it off clicking on to Dog Poster 1 at the top of this page, you must be logged in to do this.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
