Sounds to me like she's having a lovely time with you and Genie, and also sounds like you're doing a brilliant job with her.   And you already know what I think.....lol !   Lots of love, dear little Scrappy, and all very best wishes, from me and my two xx        Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Genie's mum
Scrappy is doing great with us although Corinne and myself are finding it difficult to find her a good home. We have had many offers but not yet found anyone we trust to take on Scrappys needs. Her training is going well and she is sleeping through the night in a crate now but she must go with other dogs so she can latch on to them and not the people and the new owners must understand that she will easily go back to trashing the house if they do not keep up the training and we have to be very sure that she does get her forever home as this little girl has already had a disturbing start in life. Genie has taught her to play as Scrappy didn't know how and their favourite game is chase, they take it in turns to be leader, Scrappy cheats and takes shortcuts, they also have started play fighting which is a new thing for Scrappy. I am sure the right home will turn up soon and in the meantime she is ok here with us.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is a lovely re-united story. I'm so pleased its turned out so well, and that Scrappy seems to be un affected by the trauma. Well done everyone on here who have pulled out all the stops, even the neighbours who were feeding , but most of all - a huge thank you to Kate and Gwain - you are diamonds. Scrappy has gone to work with Gwain today she has met lots of people and has been running around in the garden where he is working, she has been shopping and the man in the tea van gave her a sausage roll, she really likes people and has been wagging her tail and greeting people, so different to the stray scrappy. I would love to be able to say that she can stay with us forever but we already have nine rescue dogs (that's 8 too many) of our own most of which are ageing collies that take up alot of my time and it would not be fair to the other dogs or Scrappy, but for now we have saved her from kennels and have lots of interest in her. We just need to find the right person that can fill her needs.  Will keep you all informed of her progress.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So pleased to log on and hear Scrappy is safe, I feel quite emotional what a wonderful end to this story. Great news for Corinne too a lady who does so much for dogs and deserves some good luck, I can't wait to tell my son he's been wishing her safe too. Now let's hope she finds a very special forever home. Well done everybody makes me believe in good human nature again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So very pleased to log on this morning to find that Scrappy has finally given herself up, even though she didn't know she was doing that LOL !    I would like to put in a personal plea here to Kate and Gwain to please consider giving Scrappy her forever home with you if it were at all possible.   She has been through so much already in her short life, apart from the last few days, and she is now going to start to feel settled, only to be unsettled again at the very least if she has to move on again.   This is coming from my heart, you of course know your own circumstances best, just would hate to think she might go off again! Anyway, whatever happens, have a good life Scrappy and I wish you the very best that life can offer xx          Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done Kate and Gwain for the eventual capture of Scrappy, this is indeed a spirit lifter to read this news after the last couple of days with such sad Rainbow Bridge reunion stories. The team work shown here has been fantastic and so pleased that Scrappy has a safe bed for the forseeable future until her new family can be found.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To our surprise after only two nights of mission stakeout scrappy walked in the trap that we had cleverly disguised as a pile of rubbish and set with left over KFC from sunday night. Gwain and I was ready to spend our evenings for the next two or three weeks living in the car, but she just couldn't resist that slightly off chicken and meat balls. The whole of Badgers Dean estate was looking out for this dog and kept coming out to ask if we had caught her yet not realising that we was trying to be descrete and quiet, so after we had politly sent them all off to bed scrappy was able to show herself. I have never used the traps to catch a dog before and we are pleased that this experiment worked and we have learnt alot, for another time. The best news is that Corrine has agreed to let us take Scrappy home with us and look after her until a great home can be found, we just couldn't let her go into kennels after her ordeal so as I type this Scrappy is fast asleep on the sofa next to Gwain she looks releived to have a comfortable bed tonight and she really is a sweet little dog and deserves a forever home. Corrine offered us ?100 for finding Scrappy and we are donating it to the wildlife charity that I work for as it was their traps that we used.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sure Kate aka Genie's mum will be along later to post more details but at about 10pm tonight her and Gwain caught Scrappy in one of the traps - massive WELL DONE and THANK YOU to Kate and Gwain for their help. Thanks to Kate's work as well for allowing their traps to be used. Kate and Gwain are also going to foster her until she can find a suitable new home! Can just see it now, Genie and Scrappy comparing notes on their adventures! Kate is going to send a reunited photo. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Kate and Gwain, thank you for your help, I know Corinne and all involved with Scrappy are so grateful for all the help they are getting from everyone. Glad Scrappy is not limping and that she is staying around the area. The local residents have been a great help feeding her as this has kept her in the area and given us the opportunity to use the trap, which I believe will be successful! Now however, we need the feeding regime to be a bit more controlled and via the trap, so her source of food is that in the trap. She's only got to go in the once and we've got her but she must be hungry enough to want the food in there. Some sort of stinky food will certainly help - pilchards/butchers bone/tripe. Also, it may be worth putting some tripe in an old pair of tights and dragging it from the area she is seen in up to and in to the trap to just attract her a bit more. Gwain and I was out until 12pm last night, we saw scrappy trotting around 3 or four times and pleased to report she is now not limping. We are confident the traps were in the right place and we know the times she is active, I really think this will work, the only problem we have is there are so many people on the estate feeding her now she is not hungry enough to go in the traps. At one point we were ten foot away from her but the moment we moved she was off, she is sticking to the area and as long as she is not chased i think she will stay, there is good shelter and easy escape routes into the trees. We will be back this afternoon with the traps and some stinky food to try again, we will stay till late again, she seemed to settle down around 11pm last night. We will get her soon and find her a good home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have spent some time in the area today and have spoken to some residents that have seen scrappy since Friday night, I now have a good idea of her movements and where she comes to feed and sleep, there was another good sighting of her at around 3pm today right near where I have been looking. I am willing to set the trap tonight and sit with it for two or three hours but due to the area I would not like to leave the trap unatended over night. If anyone would like to do a few hours early morning or tomorrow night then the trap can be collected from a house in Badgers Dean you just need to contact me to arrange. I have a good feeling Scrappy will be in the blue soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Great to hear we know now where Scrappy is sleeping and that she is regularly going back to the same area...this is good news. I think we need to look at using a trap to catch her. Is there anyone nearby who is willing to leave food out regularly (am and pm), somewhere safe, near to where she is sleeping and then once the trap is down can monitor the trap?  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Heading over to Essex now. If you think it would help I can arrange setting a fox trap they are very big and would easily catch a staff sized dog. But not sure if she would be tempted in a trap. If you think it's worth a go then I will be on my mobile all day.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have a big problem in that we now know where she is but there is no way she will go to anybody. The dog warden said he can't catch her while she is on the run so won't go.Can anyone suggest a way forward? My boss lives in Badgers Dean, and there are a few people that regularly put food out for foxes in that road so food will not be a problem for her there, I think she will stay around there. I will go and search for you today and will alert all the fox feeding residents to keep a look out. My boss works late hours and is very often driving back early hours of the morning so I will ask her to do a sweep of the estate at that time.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scrappy was seen several times yesterday in Meesons Lane, Badgers Dean near the nature reserve in Grays. At one point she was in someones garden even but was unable to be caught/shut in.  Corinne was there for most of the day but with no luck. Fingers crossed today brings good news. Is there is kind resident in that road that is able to leave food out early and late in their garden to hopefully tempt Scrappy into a secure garden?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just read yuor comment. Sorry she didn't surface yesterday. Please don't ignore any sightings. My sister from Grays lost her new Lurcher, she had come from Ireland and only been with her a few days and slipped out of the door. She was seen on several occasions in Upminster and finally captured in South Ockendon. Good luck in your continued search,it will be great to log onto this site and find she has been found. We will take a spare lead and food on all our walks with the dogs, just in case.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went to Orsett heath today, big area to search gave out some flyers to people who live overlooking area, one lady who walks there twice daily is gonna keep an eye out. Corinne and co have contacted the pub landlord he agreed to put food down if he sees her again, but not regularly. We gave flyers to a boarding/rescue kennel nearby they are aware and on look out. Fingers crossed she'll show herself soon. Other area where there was a poss sighting is a long way off is she likely to have travelled that far?Anyway good luck over next few days I can't act again 'til Thursday but will follow posts with interest.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Again, we went to the location she was spotted,it is vast. We spent an hour or so searching, with food, to no avail. spoke to another dog walker who told us that a person with 2 staffies lets their dogs run loose and it could possibly be one of theirs. I hope she is found safe soon. She is in my prayers.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This can be accessed via an entrance behind houses in Badgers Dene. If you ask a resident they will tell you where it is.. More sightings have come in from the Chadwell St Mary area, and she was also seen near the A13 tucking into a bone. Scrappy has often been seen in the park area next to the crematorium. Lunasmum is trying to organise a search party, probably for Saturday, in Chadwell St Mary. If anyone is local and can spare any time to help the search, even just for an hour, it would be a massive help. Please post here. I am getting confirmation as to which tel number to contact if you can help with the search so will post that up here shortly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
