Such a shame, Veronica is very upset, but wants to say thank you to everyone who has helped out.

At least they remained together until they died.

My sister said that there was a poster at the end of the lane she lives in so there is the odd one it seems...unfortunately, because its in such a  rural area, there would not be a huge amount of passing traffic....the posters really need to be put further afield now and in places where people are actually going to see them, especially if the dogs that were sighted, were in fact Zeus & Cliquot.  I put a couple more up in Sheepstreet Lane which is the lane between Ticehurst and Etchingham on my way home from work last night....i also put one on the post box in the centre of Etchingham, although i'm not sure how long that one will be there before it gets removed!!  There was nowhere for me to park in Burwash so that still needs doing.  I did also put one up outside the Spar shop in Broad Oak. :-)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Finally managed to get a few posters up on way to Crowborough last night - Ticehurst end of Sheepstreet Lane, Junction of Shrub Lane, one outside the school in Stonegate, one at the junction of the Stonegate/Wadhurst road, Wadhurst High Street, Durgates & Mayfield Lane.  I will try to put a couple up in Etchingham & Burwash on my way home later....somebody, somewhere must have seen these two dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to see that these two are still missing.  I am still keeping an eye open for them.  I have to say that i drove through Wadhurst to Crowborough after work last Friday and did not see one poster!  And i was actually looking for them!  I am not saying that there aren't any in of the shops but certainly driving around i've seen nothing - i strongly believe that posters are going to be the only way of jogging peoples memories re any sightings - i am doing that same journey tomorrow so will try to get some up on some of the lamposts - i also think that if it was these two that were sighted in Stonegate then the Burwash/Etchingham area should be done too.  I will do what i can but if there is anyone in Burwash/Hurst Green that can put a couple up then that would help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mary, do you know if Veronica has contacted the "Glynde Estates" as they own a lot of woodland between where they went missing and where they were allegedly sighted.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When my sister phoned the Watkins yesterday they had already been contacted by someone - they have not sighted these two dogs at all but are on the lookout.  She also walked from her house (which is not far from where these two went missing) pretty much along the river to Stonegate but saw nothing.  On my way home yesterday i did stop and have a look where they were sighted last week but nothing to be seen unfortunately.  I also stopped a lady that was walking her dog in the area to ask her to keep an eye out too - she said that she'd seen the poster up at the station so was aware of them being missing. We could do with another sighting as they could have headed towards Burwash, Burwash Common or Etchingham - i am hoping to get a few posters up in those areas. Somebody, somewhere, must have seen these dogs....they are so distinguished!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Mary - i think its the "Watkins" family that own that land if it is where i am thinking.  I have a feeling that my Dad knows them, and if he doesn't, my sisters friend is married to one of the sons so i will get her to get in touch with them.  As i say, This is very local to where i work and i cross the river every day to and from work.  I will get some posters up tomorrow in that area when i have got my staple gun and waterproof leaflet covers with me.  Lets hope that they haven't moved on too far from that area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Local shop ...costcutters didn't  take details but it was around mid-last week, near the river we think, and both dogs!. Owner is going out there tomorrow with a sammie owner and we need to poster like mad. I am trying to get someone in wadhurst to speak to royal mail about flyers. Is there any way you can find out who owns land wadhurst side of stonegate???

Mary, do you know whereabouts in Stonegate and when?  I work with two people who live in Stonegate and i also drive through Stonegate on my way home from work!  It is perfectly feasible that these two have made their way that way - i work between Ticehurst and Etchingham which are the two closest villages to Stonegate - i can get some posters up in that area....may be worth an email to the little village primary school there.  If there are any more reported sightings in that area do let me know as i am close enough to go up there in my lunch hour and can be there in 5 minutes if there is another sighting.  Mary,  i may try to give you a ring a bit later so that you have my phone number if there is any developments.  Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have spoken to owner again this w/e and she is trying for a slot on SCR. I have also reminded her to poster everywhere she goes...its tricky she seems to think a couple in local shops is enough! I understand she has posterd a bit in Ticehurst and Stonegate too.
She has (with persuasion entered a few pubs and they have displayed info near the bar.

Spoke to CJ on Friday...she gave some good advice re scenting...my sister was happy to scent but we decided that it wasn't worth it unless there had been another sighting which i don't believe there has been.  CJ has also  very kindly emailed me the small posters so will print them out at some stage.  My sister has walked Snape Wood this weekend and will have mentioned the missing dogs to anyone else that she met - i understand that there is now a poster up there.  I did print her out a few posters so i think that she was going to put those up where she could too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry Zoe
My phone is now on :-)
I have emailed CJ on DL as Kent coord to see if she can post something in more detail about scenting. I’m no expert...when i lost my girl i pee’d on my boots at point of loss and walked homeI think it may be a bit more scientific than that ie using a bottle of dilute urine, or hoover contents mixed with water and marking boundary points and trees/shrubs at intersections at nose high (theirs not yours LOL).

My sister may be able to help with scenting this weekend - she does need guidance as to what to do.  I will only be on my computer until 4pm today and then not again until Monday morning - i have tried phoning Mary "starlapps" but can't get through.  If someone could talk me through the scenting for me to pass on then i'd be very grateful :-)  I would rather not put my mobile no on here and am assuming that there is no PM facility with this new style website but will check both Zeus's & Cliquot's pages before i leave work to see if anyone can give any advice or a contact phone number.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm really sorry but i am not around this weekend to do any scenting - i have just text my sister as she lives nearby to see if she has time but she/we would need some guidance - could someone email me instructions just in case please?  She said she'd put a poster up at Snape as if doesn't sound as if any posters have been put up anywhere - i drove through Wadhurst yesterday and pretty much past the end of the road that they went missing from and didn't see one poster!!!  I do think that posters are going to be the only way that these dogs will be found as at the moment they seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth.  If they haven't turned up after the weekend i may be able to have a look round the area after work but due to lack of daylight hours now it will probably only be an hour or so!  Is their owner able to put up any posters at all?  To be fair it is a very rural area and won't get a lot of passing traffic - if she is not very active would she consider giving a pile of flyers to the postman to put in with peoples post.....at least then everyone in the direct area will be aware that they are missing and someone may have picked them up locally.....just a thought. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Now the rain has stopped for a few days, is there anyone locally who may be prepared to do some scenting?

CJ has a lot of experience in this and sent me some info. If anyone is interested, it may be worth a shot. I find it hard to believe that these two have vanished with no sightings. Keeping fingers crossed for them.

I have telephoned Viking Lodge kennels too this am: they are in S'Oaks area but a holding kennels for animal wardens.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Details have been sent to local Wadhurst school- Uplands- but no reply as yet. details also sent out on Wadhurst web site and as work closly with kent police who use NHW sytem to send out dogwatch alerts i have contacted the local NHW  in the hope they might do the same. I will confirm if they do so as will publicise a large area, asking that anyone with swimming pools checks them- also have checked railtrack and logged them as missing just incase near the track!!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To be honest, i didn't find the Animal wardens particularly helpful but still worth the owner putting a call into them anyway.  Gloria does cover Wadhurst but i have a feeling that that is her boundary and which is where the Animal Wardens take over. Gloria did mention a sewage works (below the school i think) that she wanted to have a look round....i can only think that is the same place that you mentioned - lets hope that they haven't made their way in that direction!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I had a wander round on Friday but nearly got lost myself
I will call owner now with animal wardens numberI guess they would only keep them for a week...
The old school the owner mentioned...is that where a sink-a-away is? The owner mentioned that a local dog had lost its life there some time ago??

Thanks for the info Mary.  I didn't realise that you weren't that local so half of what i've said probably means nothing to you!  I have just spoken to the vets in Wadhurst, they are aware that both the dogs are missing.....she did say that its not the first time they've escaped but they have never gone for so long before!  I don't know if you are aware but there is now no dog warden for this area - it is covered by "Animal Wardens"  who i have spoken to and, if the owner hasn't already, she needs to contact them herself as they need the postcode they went missing from, and various contact details etc which i couldn't give them - their phone number is 0845 241 7253.  I have also left a message on the mobile ansaphone of Gloria who is the dogwarden for Wealden - she has always been a great help when dogs have been missing in my direct area....it may be a bit out of her area but thought it was worth a call anyway. I can't believe that these two are still out and about after a week - they are quite distinguished - i really think that posters are so important - i may be able to get some up on Thursday after work but it would be great if they were safely back home by then.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

OK Spoken to owner. Sighting was at bottom of neighbours field nearer to Mayfield lane. I am not sure if that boundary is stock fenced, so it is possible they have crossed Mayfield Rd and headed due North
Owner has done a bit of posting locally (which I think has taken it out of her a little).
Once posters are up, as it is almost 7 days, maybe a scent trail could be considered? Owner has agreed to provide samples...

Thanks Zoe.
I believe the sighting was at the bottom of a field heading towards Railway line half a mile up Riseden Rd on Left. But that was Tues or Weds PM. I have tried to contact owner to get exact location but no joy so far...
I am postering in Rye today...sounds odd, but it is the Arts Festival and draws people from all over the SE.
Meant to add that I’m not sure which areas have been covered locally. Some posters have arrived with the owner now, and I know schools and local radio have been contacted, but coverage of posters may be a bit hit and missnot knowing area and being so far away is a bit of a handicap!!

Good luck
Mary

I have text my sister who only lives about a mile from where these two have gone missing.  She doesn't work on a Tuesday morning so will have a bit of a scout about this morning when she's walking her own dog.  She has quite a lot of contacts in Wadhurst so has said that she'll forward the posters to all her contacts in the area - presumably posters have gone up in the local area at least - she did say that if she didn't see any she would try to print some out at work later and get some up.  Fingers crossed these two turn up safe and well. x  Forgot to ask, Mary, i see that there was a sighting quite early on - do you have any idea where it was?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I totally understand, that was all the info i needed, i know that area well as i used to live in Tidebrook and drove along Riseden Lane to get to work!  Presumably Culverden Veterinary Group in Sparrow Green has a poster and also may be worth postering Snape Wood as you get a lot of dog walkers there, also Uplands may be worth a poster too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

From owner's garden (rear) on East side of Riseden Lane, just off Mayfield Lane, (Tidebrook). I haven't been able to get hold of the owner today, I'm afraid, and don't want to publicise her address on here without her permission.

These two Samoyed went missing from the garden of an active (but elderly) lady's home on Tues PM at around 1830-1900.
The home is quite isolated and in the midst of dense country and farmland.
Local people are aware, by phone, for example, Wadhurst Estate, and the local police, Railtrack at Wadhurst, RSPCA, vets, Kit Wilson Rescue Centre, Samoyed Association etc.
The owner Veronica Gunston, is concerned the dogs may be picked up or are contained in an outhouse or farm-building. There are travellers active nearby which is of concern.
What we need is a team of volunteers to help a) search and b) poster everywhere sensible within a 20 mile radius.
Volunteers could ring Mary Starling on 07742 569 129 to coordinate.
Please try to help if you can this weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
