YES!! Brilliant result - she gave you a run for your money! She had to be there, but what an effort it took - a highly effective game of hide and seek Pip.

It might not have given her exact location, but a tracker would have given you confidence that she hadn't left the woods - Findster and Tractive are good depending upon the mobile signal and terrain - both give a free trial period.

WE HAVE FOUND PIP!!!!!!!!!!!
Dug out of the ground just before darkness and heavy rain tonight in the woods she was last seen! She’s ok, a little stiff and tired but otherwise well. Thank you for all your shares and well wishes. Everyone’s efforts and positivity has paid off, proves don’t give up on things!!! #pipshome

Has she been found yet? When you said she’d run off over a hill, which direction did you mean, north, south? We lost our springer for 7 hours, up on Cradle Hill Warminster, and he was found down a military ‘fox hole’. Are you organising any searches?
Sammi
Hi all, A through search of all the local woods was carried out today in daylight. We have not stopped searching. Will go out again in a bit. A cage with familiar scent, her bed, and food have been placed at the last place she was seen. Managed to catch an engineer at the pumping station so had a check but no sign. She has literally vanished. She is posted all over the internet, registered with all vets, shelters, farmers, gamekeepers etc in the area. I have also contacted the drone search and rescue. Thanks again for all your help and comments. Please come home Pip!!!

If there's any way Pip could have got into the pumping station it will need searching. They're often wildlife havens. Probably best to have it searched in any case.

The closest postcode to her last sighting is BA127HG. She is chipped and all wardens / vets / rehoming centres / everyone in local area has been informed.
Sammi
She was last seen near Wessex waters pumping station at Monkton Deverill. If you could contact drone support that would be fantastic. I have limited internet/ communication my end especially when out searching.

Thanks Sammi

The issue may be that if Pip's caught up/trapped, dogs instinctively know that they are vulnerable and will remain silent even if you walk right by. So any searching needs to be intensive, with the assumption that she’s curled up on the ground and will remain silent. In such cases thermal imaging/infrared cameras as used by wildlife people or on drones can be hugely helpful.

Please request help from DroneSAR. If you're not on Facebook I can do this for you.

they will require the exact location Pip was last seen and confirmation that her chip details are up to date and that you've contacted the dog warden.

Hi all,

Thank you for your responses,

Pip was 5 mins into a well known walk just over the hill from her home. All on home turf. Location is near cow sheds monkton deverill. She shot into woods ( very normal) after pheasants but never came back out. Search party, searched woods local fields, barns, everywhere!! She is chipped but not wearing a collar. She is very sweet but can be wary of new people. Very unlike her to not come back. The search resumes first light.

Sorry to hear Pip is missing. Please could you let us know -
- how she went missing
- location
- her behaviour
- how well does she know the area lost from
- if out of area, does she know the way home
- confidence level around dogs/humans/generally

- as Pip's timid, it may be safest to assume that she’s in survival mode and views all humans as predators. This way searchers can’t do anything wrong, otherwise, if people get too close, or make any attempt to catch her, she will panic. The thing that needs to be done immediately is for all shares/posters etc to be edited and headed with the if seen ignore, withdraw and contact advice, otherwise people’s natural reaction is to follow and try to attract and catch her. Once on scene use passive body language and attract her by throwing smelly tasty treats - sausages, chicken, sardines. It can take hours to gain trust and for survival mode to fade out so go prepared. Hopefully this won't be the case but it's best to be prepared.

- many dogs will return home or a to a car if used to take them on a walk - they can recognise the engine noise as well. This commonly occurs during the early hours of the morning.

- place unwashed clothes on the washing line to create a scent trail to guide her home, along with her bedding on the ground ready for her, allow access to your property.
