Everyone thought I was mad when I named him Jarvis (previous owners called him Bailey) but I think it's a great name, glad you do too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Jarvis Cocker
Ashmark. I also have Cocker Spaniel called Jarvis and I quite agree with you although mine is not nervous he is very soft and soon gets upset and we have to treat him as if nothing has happened, we soon learnt that if we were sympathetic with him he got even more upset.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have a nervous cocker called Jarvis and the best advice I can give you is to treat him as normal. The worst thing you can do is feel sorry for him and make too much of a fuss as this only reinforces the nervousness. It will be hard to do especially with those beautiful eyes looking at you pleadingly but it will pay off in the end. Hope he's back to normal soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you all for your replys. Paddy is resting up at the mo. He has lost a lot of weight, the vet advised to feed little and often. The worst thing physically I have found is he is absolutely covered in grass seeds, and with having such a thick, dense coat they are very difficult to remove. Some have embedded in his skin and started a little infection.I will be taking him to the vets tomorrow to have a check up and he might suggest antibiotics. Also I will re-worm him cause I expect hes been eating and drinking all sorts. If anyone have any advice on the mental effects that this might have on a already nervous dog than I would be grateful.SarahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sarah, that's great news. I'm so pleased to hear that Paddy is back home thanks to the caring farmer who took the time and effort to catch him. You must be so very relieved. Welcome home Paddy!

Sarah try to stay positive at this worrying time. Dogs do tend to find safe places when something like this happens. If he was clipped by a car, and very nervous, its likely he wont surface for a few days whilst he gets his bearings. Dogs can survive for surprising lengths of time, and do find water and stuff to eat. Not sure how many helpers we have in the area, but you can generate help yourself by handing out posters to dog walkers around the area. These people will be your eyes and ears when you cannot cover the whole area yourself. Ask them to keep your telephone number on them in order to ring you if they see Paddy rather than trying to catch him. If Paddy had a squeeky toy this could be squeeked gently, or a familiar whistle. You can call gently, but not loudly. Tell us more about the area he was clipped by the car, and is it far from the place he ran off from, only its very likely he has returned there. Dogs normally will return, and stay quite close to the area of loss. Good idea as already suggested to place some bedding in a couple of safe places, with some smelly food like sardines. Foxes may find it, but Paddy will also get the smell, and return to see if there is more food placed there. This would normaly be break of day as its just getting light and late afternoon near tea time. If the weather is hot he will be resting up in his safe place. Good luck, and keep us informed please. Stay safe Paddy x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to update you all, still no sign of Paddy. Been out around Tidcombe Rd area and canal area again this morning but no luck. I would find it useful if people could please leave a message on this site if you are helping us look in this area too. It's such a large, dense area that I would find it helpful to know that other eyes were looking too. And if you have been looking already THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. It will be a week today that Paddy went and i'm afraid today my heart is heavy that my time is running out.All we need is one sighting. Please help and thankyou again. Poor little soul must be so frightened. I have had cocker spaniels for 15 years and in my experience they hate being away from familiar suroundings. Keep going back to the place he was last seen but go early morning and late evening when it is quiet. Try leaving a blanket or something with a familiar smell on it. In the meantime send a photo to doglost so posters can be sent out to local helpers. Make sure you put posters up everywhere and inform the dog warden that Paddy is missing. Get posters to all vets in the area and visit rescue centres regularly. Don't forget to inform the dog warden. Hope you find him soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
