Thanks Donna, Dave, Daniella, Luca (and Gus!) for your words of thanks -it's always very much appreciated. Sorry to hear that you have all been unwell. I spotted a couple of 'stray' Missing posters on whilst on our travels Sunday afternoon (now removed!) at the junction of Bromley Rd and Downs Bridge Rd and I think there may be one left in Scotts Lane still to be removed. I think it's on a tree closer to the Bromley Rd 'end'. I rarely go down towards Beckenham Place Park, but have you managed to remove the posters in that part of Beckenham and also the ones near to Waitrose at Beckenham Junction? It is so very important that we remove these posters as it keeps the Council and local residents 'on our side'. Also, if another dog or cat goes missing, it will give them a better chance of being found, as new posters make for a greater impact. I will look out for you and your 'new baby' in Kelsey Park or round at the Park Langley shops!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RIGHT! the OH and I have just spent over an hour taking down Angus's posters. We covered Scotts Lane, roads off Wickham Way (Park Langley), down to the traffic lights at Westmoreland Rd, South Hill Woods and surrounding roads 'above' Hayes Lane. Came across lots of happy people who were pleased to hear the good news that Angus had been found. I also asked people I met to remove any posters they might see on their travels. If I don't hear from them, I will speak to D&D in the next day or so to ask what areas they have already covered. And so if any other DL Helpers, come across a poster, please feel free to take it down.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I've made a few people smile as well when they asked (or was told)whether Angus was back - several people in Kelsey Park yesterday, people in work today, neighbours and the nice man (don't know his name) in the Chinese Garage. It's really nice to see how much people care about a dog they've never met! Also bumped into Ryan & Jack in Kelsey Park yesterday from our Safer Neighbourhoods police team. When I told them they said 'We tell Chris (Robbins, the lovely dog-owning PC) - she will be pleased'. I will endeavour to take any stray posters down at the weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yeah, I've removed a few too! One chap at Eden Park station asked if Angus was home - when I told him he was delighted and walked off happy! I was even asked yesterday if Samson was home, so people do remember the posters.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I met David and Donna whilst walking my boyfriends parents dog that we are looking after. I just wanted to express my absolute relief and joy that the lovely Angus has been found. I just could not get the thought of him being lost and alone out of my head so god only knows how they were feeling. They should be congratulated for doing such a brilliant job - Angus' Mum should be very proud (if she ever finds out that he went missing -) ). Delighted for you all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lots of activity this morning. David ped round some posters. Baggy Dog was also out on early morning patrol with Beau, the Dobie and phoned with a possible sighting in a garage area behind some houses. David then shot off to follow up on the possible sighting. Before that, I did manage to get a stroke (well several actually!) of his gorgeous little puppy, who I presume will now be called Gus. David explained that they were thinking about calling their puppy Ralph but IF Angus came back (didn't think at the time to correct him by saying not IF but WHEN!) they would call him Gus (after AnGus). He met up with Baggy Dog and then they both went on their way. Samsonsmum (and her two smashing children - Brad & Jade - thanks 'you two') and me with my OH went out postering for an hour or so. When I got back, around 1pm, there was a large notice waiting for me on the doorstep telling me that Angus had been found and to call Dave. The reunited story goes like this: Dave had a call from a man who lived close to Westgate Rd/Beckenham Place Park to say that Angus was in his garden! When they got there there was no sign of the boy! He then started to get calls from people just outside the park entrance to say that Angus was running around in Southend Rd (very busy road). When they got there no sign of him! He then had two 2 more calls from very excited people to say that they had also seen Angus running around in Copers Cope Rd and near Waitrose. Once again when Dave got there, no sign of Angus. The person he was with had to leave and so Dave came back with his car and headed for Beck PP, the area where there had been the most sightings. And there, trotting up the road towards him, was little Angus! Dave said he scooted round him. Dave called him but he seemed a little unsure of the situation and so Dave did EXACTLY the right thing. He ped to the ground and sprinkled some food around. The temptation and the fact that Angus had spent 6 days on the loose was too much and he started to eat the food and which point Dave 'grabbed him' and put him in the car. Angus is none the worse for his 6 days of freedom and Dave said it just looked like he had come back from a muddy walk!!! He wanted me to convey how very grateful he is for the help of DL and all the local support and words of encouragement/suggestions they received. They are quite amazed at peoples' kindness and very grateful. He said that they would both stay on board DL to help any other owners who found themselves in a similar situation. But I have to say (as Samsonsmum has already said), the amount of postering that Dave, Donna and others did was simply wonderful - they were EVERYWHERE!!! And now... we need to take them all down, as Baggy Dog has said, before Mum comes home!!! Welcome home Angus and hope you have fun with Gus (?) your new, little playmate.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just catching up on this little boy and sorry to see he is still not home. Shelties Mum is quite right. They are tough little fluff balls and good at scenting. Mine always has her nose to the ground and when she picks up a scent goes into another world and just follows it! Might be worth a try particularly now you have had the sightings. Fingers & paws crossed here hoping Angus is found very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

UPDATE: Just spoken to owner's son on his mobile. He's in the Scotts Lane area. He had a call today from a woman who lives in Scotts Lane to say that she definately saw Angus in the garden opposite to where she lives. Her daughter noticed it and said 'Mum, look at that lovely dog'. When the woman went to Scallywags pet shop today she saw Angus' poster and phoned the owner. She claims it was definitely Angus! this was at 3pm yesterday afternoon. Scotts Lane isn't that far from Beckenham Place Park. They have been out for most of the day today. He would really appreciate some help with postering & has asked that as many posters to go up as possible in that area: Scotts Lane, Shortlands Rd, Kingswood Ave, Hengst Way, Top Park, Hayes Lane, Westmoreland Rd & towards and into Hayes. Can anyone help? I'm not working tomorrow and can spare a couple of hours. Is anyone around to join me?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can understand the concern at the length of time Angus has been out, but these lovely little fluff ball shelties are tough dogs. I refer back to Sophie a year ago. She was out for three weeks in the middle of winter and was caught sunning herself with some sheep. They can live on veg if needs be and are very canny at finding good shelter which will give you problems finding him. I still think scenting is a good idea working on the sighting area. Shelties are very good at this. Only today it was suggested mine would be good at seeking out truffles they are zo hot on scenting. Everything's crossed for a quick reunion xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Baggy Dog, I think I'm right in saying that the owner's family have diverted the Chislehurst nos. to their own phone. I believe they have also notified Petlog/microchip people re his missing status. Have just popped into my next door's neighbour, who will gladly display Angus's posters both inside and outside the Foxgrove Club. He will also tell the resident staff and regulars. I also spoke to a member the Copers Cope Safer Neighbourhood police team who knew about a missing dog cos they had seen posters but didn't have one displayed back at base. He (Aaron) said they would be happy to display a poster in reception (he said to knock on the door if they are closed) and also take some mini-posters to hand to the rest of the team to carry with them. Their offices are below the 'newish' Point Centrale flats, next to St George's church hall in Albemarle Rd. Aaron and colleagues were about to set off on 'patrol' and said that he would make a point of including the areas where there have been possible sightings of Angus. Aren't we lucky to have such lovely, caring, dog-minded police in our area?!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks caryn and Angus - everything helps and Angus' family are really grateful for everyone's help, suggestions and words of support. I spoke to Donna Byrne this morning - they are really doing well with the postering but if anyone else out there has time to put up a few posters... feel free. They are both so VERY worried about Angus, especially with it being so cold, although he does have a longer coat than most other breeds. I told our dog trainer at class this morning, who then relayed the details to everyone else in the class. She will take the big poster and mini posters to her dog training classes tonight (3 classes between 7pm & 10pm) and make sure everyone there is aware that angus is missing. I dived on our lovely dog-loving postie as she delivered our mail this morning (poor woman, I made her jump out of her skin!). She confirmed that there was already a large poster on display in the Beckenham Sorting Office but I also gave her a handful of mini- posters. She said that she would make sure the postie who covers the Westgate Rd/Foxgrove Rd area gets a mini poster to carry with him/her. As luck would have it my very good next door (dog loving) neighbour is heavily involved in the running of the Foxgrove Club in the unmade up part of Westgate Rd (close to the entrance to Beckenham Place Park) and so I will pop into him this afternoon and, unless already done, will ask him to display posters both inside and out (the Club is VERY dog friendly and have a resident Westie themselves!). I also spoke to Foxgrove Rd vets who knew all about Angus (they are displaying his poster in the waiting room) and said that the owner's son had popped into them yesterday to tell them about the possible nearby sightings. Donna and husband, just keep up the good work and let's try to make sure that Angus becomes the best known and hottest boy in town.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi All having trouble putting a reply on Angus's site it could be me too stressed and pressing the in correct buttons. Please let me know you have received this email. So Angus looks as though he maybe still in Beckenham i was beginning to think we would never find him but this looks as though there maybe a chance its so cold and this is his 4th night out. Been out all day with more leaflets and searched all this area but still no luck. Thank you all so much for your help so many kind people Please help us Angus is my mother in laws life she returns from her holiday on Sunday,i have my new puppy sitting beside me that i picked up on Saturday and we can't enjoy him yet as we all feel so low Please everyone check your gardens Kind regards Donna.........e mail from owner. Baggy dog, good to hear that you bumped into our SNP team. Chris Robbins, the woman PC is a dog-owner herself. I gave the owner's son their telephone details yesterday but don't know whether he contacted them. Were they aware of Angus? Also good to hear that the phone box in Eden Park Ave is now sporting its very own poster! Also thanks for checking out the garage access behind Wellhouse Rd., as I know your spare time is very limited at the moment. Donna Byrne, would you update us please as to who you have contacted, where you have postered so far and whether there have been anymore sightings of Angus. Also, thanks to Samsonsmum. Was the farm you mentioned Hayes Farm in Hayes Lane, Bromley? Both Westmoreland Rd shops and the Hayes petshop are good places to stick up posters (plenty of peeps passing through)!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Saw Safer Neighbourhood police team tonight. They're going to speak to Chislehurst team tomorrow in case Angus is heading that way. Put leaflet in phone box on Eden Park Ave. Went through garage access way behind Wellhouse - yes, Milly's Mum - SO many gardens to hide in, particularly for a small frightened dog. Donna - any more sightings? So many posters around someone must have seen him. Hopefully News Shopper tomorrow will do the trick.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Meant to add, I also walked back along a quiet and overgrown track in Kelsey Park (above the lake), which is near to the Ice House for anyone who knows the park well. I also scouted around the back of the tennis courts (they back onto the rear gardens of the houses in Stone Park Ave). Angus's owner was heading off to Tesco with full-size and mini-posters. If the owner's son reads this and is able, there are currently alot of cars parked along Stone Park Ave (parking for people visiting Kelsey Park which was very busy when I walked through) which could also be blitzed with mini-posters, as well as the houses in that part of Stone Park Ave that back onto Kelsey Park and also including the park side of Manor Way. It is likely that Angus could enter these very large gardens via Kelsey Park and, at this time of year, the house owners would not be aware of a little dog camping out in their back gardens. Not a nice thought, but also ask the Manor Way residents to check their swimming pools (I added this request to the mini-posters when we were looking for Samson the Staffie - reunited after 2 weeks away). Right, I really must go now - will catch up when I get home from work. Good Luck!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelties Mum, Angus' home is in Chislehurst (around 7 miles or so from where he went missing from in Beckenham). At the last place he was sighted, there is a small parade of food shops including a deli and butchers (as far as I know all shopkeepers are aware - D&D please confirm this). I will have a look behind the shops tonight once it's quieter and dark. Also, in the nearby Kelsey Park there is a water source (very large lake) and a mobile cafeteria plus food left by the many visitors (schools on holiday round this way & so nice & busy today as the sun is shining). Thanks Samsonsmum for postering 'your road'. Have just had an email from Baggy Dog who said that word of missing Angus is spreading (she lives in the Elmers End/Eden Park end of Beckenham). I've got to go off to work but I'm sure that the owner's family would appreciate as much local help as possible, especially re postering and delivering the mini-posters door-to-door - anyone out there with time to spare? I start work at 1pm but have been out & done some posters: Wickham Way approach to the Chinese Garage roundabout, on tree outside the Sponge Kitchen bakery/cafe, one to the Park Rangers in Harvington Depot (South Eden Park Rd), the Kia showroom (known as the Chinese Garage - Japanese design!!!) have also agreed to display a poster (spoke to a very nice man who checked with the manager), one at the end of Hayes Lane (close to the CG roundabout) and one on my favourite poster tree in Kelsey Park, close to the putting green (not open at the moment - maybe too early in the season) and the mobile cafeteria (original burnt down by vandals/morons!). Donna Byrne can you give us an update as to where you have postered and what still needs to be done - thanks!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to see that Angus is still missing. Have to agree with Shelties Mum - this breed are very much one person dogs, sometimes even within a family. Also, from personal experience, they are not very keen on other dogs not known to them and are really only comfortable with their own breed, or perhaps a rough collie, so likely to stay clear of people with dogs. Dekkaann's suggestion is good, particularly if Angus is trying to find his way back to his old house. Sadly, I'm too far away to help but willing that he will be found safe very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Forgot to add Shelties are usually one person dogs so he'll be looking for his mum and it's her routes and maybe old scented clothing he needs to pin him down to a spot. They often go back to the spot they went missing from as well quite frequently so scent there as well. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was praying this boy would be in the blue when I logged on. Shelties become very frightened and can keep running and he mnust be very hungry now and needing water. I don't know the area but would be go to the local shops near the old house and maybe back to the house. I'm remembering Baillie's tracks and the scenting. As I mentioned I'm in Meday but not too far away to help if needed. Newshopper has the biggest circulation there, so let's hope it works if not caught before Sylv xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Jan & Yasa for doing the smaller posters. I spoke to the owner's son again this evening. He has had a number of the DL posters printed & will be out and about tomorrow putting them up. They had been told about a collie-type dog being found close to Tesco at Elmers End (don't know any other details) but the DW (service is 'contracted out' by the Council to SDK Environmental) has assured them it wasn't a Sheltie. Thanks everyone (Baggy Dog, the sheltie lady, caryn, Shelties Mum, Samsonsmum and doglady) for all your support and helpful comments - I know the owner's family are very grateful. If this boy has been seen returning to the house it may be worth setting up a night vigil, leave gate open so if he appears someone could quietly open front door and stand back, any noise and he would run. I have known this work. Good luck Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelties Mum good idea about the scenting if the owner could put a garment or even some of ANGUS bedding by the entrance of his home he may well pick up on this and wounder in to the garden. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Samsonsmum
Hi just had the call from Milly's mum, I shall be out postering tomorrow. Obviously from experiance with my own dog who got out but eventually came back, from within the Beckenham area, you must register with Battersea dogs home and call everyday, as our surrounding Police stations if they pick up a dog or get handed in a dog they just call Battersea to pick them up everyday. Foal farm in Biggin Hill is worth a try, but they don't really handle this sort of thing anymore. Also the local council's dog warden, and ward security do patrol the local parks, their worth a try. Its even worth popping up too Battersea, and also advertise in the Newsshopper, and local vets. I'm sure with all this info he will be back soon, maybe he just fancied a holiday. I do hope this is of some help for you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Donna, have just been for a 'claw walk' and came down Wellhouse Road. No sign of Angus. Think it's worth you postering the poo bin in the Wellhouse Road entrance and also on the gate of the children's play area (half term, good weather, assume kids will be out playing?)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Would it not be an idea to scent the outside of the old house to keep him there? There are so many people on this site could advise the owner. Strangers are unlkiley to catch him, he's a sheltie. Softly, softly is the only way. I agree a defo sable. Anything I can do in Medway let me know. Thankfully he's chipped xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Baggy Dog! I managed to have a very quick word with owner's son before I left for work. It seems that Angus went missing from Wellhouse Rd, was seen in Croydon Rd Rec (I think) and then ended up by the Sponge Kitchen Sat afternoon but the person looking for Angus wasn't able to nab him (dog didn't know him well). The owner's son also said that he had been spotted back at their house (Wellhouse Rd) a couple of times. I'm not sure what direction he went after visiting the Chinese Garage shops. They have also put up signs in Harvington. Have told owner's son to call our Safer Neighbourhood Police Team. It seems they have done all vets.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much everyone for all your kind words and help, we are currently doing posters with pictures on. We are looking after Angus for my mother in law who is on holiday till Sunday, Angus may be making his way back to Chislehurst where he lives. Very friendly dog but must be very frightened as when spotted on Saturday afternoon wouldn't let anyone near him and kept running. Please please any information do contact us. I don't always get too close to Crystal as Roxy barks at Chunky! Also am usually a bit earlier than them. But will spread the word when I'm out with Little Miss who tends not to scare people!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks all! OH came back from Park Langley shops this morning to tell me about Angus (3 shops displaying handmade posters) and then I walked back through Kelsey Park and saw posters displayed there also (spotted 2). Unfortunately, I'm at work between 1pm & 7pm today but will alert Samson's mum and (hopefully) Crystal's Mum (Baggydog, do you see Crystal's Mum these days?). I have just left a message with presumably the owner's daughter and asked her to call me so we can tell her the places to target which worked so well when Samson was missing. I will do our vet (Foxgrove) unless they are already aware.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just been into Beckenham quickly - I see the owners have got posters in two of the shops I walked past in the high street - hopefully to be replaced by ones with photos when they have time. Milly's Mum - I will poster Stanhope plus the vet and pet shop in my road. Will also do Last Chance shop in Bromley. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners daughter described it as a typical sheltie color Tri colour but this is definately the photo of the dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Could someone confirm the colour please ? He is listed as a tri ( black, tan and white ), but the sheltie in the photo is a sable. Is this the actual photo or a similar dog ? Will cross post to the forums. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
