So glad that they are both back home safe, what an ordeal you've had. I know exactly how you felt, my baby Georgie has been missing 3 weeks today!!! Going back out this morning in the last place he was sighted in Haworth. Lets hope he's the next one home safe and in the blue. Really happy for you though. Very happy for you! But if only a dog had to have a licence like a car - or a sheep, cow or horse! - and couldn't be bought or sold without it, all this would stop pretty quicklyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

BRILLIANT NEWS!! So glad to hear you have all been reunited. It brought a tear to my eye! The people who steal dogs, and people who buy them obviously knowing there's something dodgy going on should be prosecuted to prevent this happening on the large scale it does. Causing heartbreak not only to the owners, but to the dogs aswell! Well done for all the effort you put in to secure the safe return of Allie and Cassie. Hope you all have a wonderful, happy and long life together!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's no problem - just pleased you have them both home safely. I work as an NHS Manager based in Gipton (must have done something wrong in a previous life) and when searching around Seacroft and Swarcliffe I included some of the playing fields of Gipton ? it's frustrating to think your ordeal could've been ended days ago. Sounds that the money reward clinched Cassie's return - it's a sad reflection of elements of our society that simply doing the right thing isn't enough for someone to pick up the phone. On the Police front ? ultimately these people are responsible to varying degrees of theft and handling stolen ?property?, what sort of deterrent do the Police provide by not automatically charging anyone at all? I don?t think it's fair that given your desperate situation they asked if you want charges pressing, your priority is purely getting your dogs back whereas their priority is to ensure the law is upheld and where it isn't people are charged accordingly. Anyway it's over now ? I hope you all enjoy each others company for years to come. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You must have been to hell and back, I can't imagine losing my dogs, I'm sure I would crumble, you were so brave and so focused, well done. I don't know when the police will put these dog thefts as a priority, imagine an old person whose dog goes missing, probably their last friend in the world. I'm so pleased for you all, enjoy the many years left with these two beautiful girls!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes you did read right and the more the evening goes on the less sympathetic I feel for the woman and her son. They obviously know nothing about dogs to believe it when she was told cassie was 9 months old and you are right, nobody should buy dogs this way. I think everyone along the chain should have to pay back the money which has changed hands as the police know who they all are. seems like everyone has got off scot free even the lad who took them in the first place. Believe it or not weve had a phone call from him tonight to say sorry. I suppose its better than nothing but small consolation for what hes put us throughLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have already posted to say how delighted I am that your girls are home. I don't know if I read this right, but did the police suggest you re emburse the woman and her son for cassie, the collar and lead and the bed, I would have thought it more appropriate to find the thief and make him pay the money back, this world is certainly changing for the worst. They should catch the thief and also tell people not to buy dogs in this way, there are plenty of dogs that need a home. The people who bought her may well of been crying, but surely they must have thought about how you were feeling.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Welcome home Cassie, good that you are back here you belong. Have to agree with Tracey Freddies Mum, what on earth is someone buying a dog (a fully grown one at that) for a child. at 14 years old there are a lot more important things on the mind of a normal boy than a dog!!!. Still I'm sure if they want a dog they could go to a rescue...... Stay safe Cassie and Ali. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everybody so much, especially you Dave, youve been a star. Its fantastic to get them both back where they belong. Aparently the police were only two doors away from her this morning following another line of enquiry. It was the lad next door to the lady she was with who rang after seeing the newspaper article. Hes rung back since asking for his reward. the police seem to think he may have been involved in some way indirectly but we dont care,he made the call and weve got her back ! Imagine living in 6 different places in a week although the lady who had her today had paid ?75 for her for her sons 14th birthday, had bought her new collar and lead, bed etc and apparently both her and her son were in tears when the police took casssie away. The police have asked if we may like to re emburse her but have said if we do they will take us as its not an area we should visit on our own. If only Cassie could talk, what an exciting tale she would have to tell ! Thankyou all again so very much. Maybe bump into you one day dave with your white boxer, I know you will recognise us xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Considering recent developments I'll spend some time in Swarcfliffe late this afternoon and tomorrow lunchtime. I know it's not clear if Cassie is in this area, but it sounds like it's worth trying. I don't know the area at all, but I've identified 'green' areas using Google Earth, that may be popular with local people walking their dogs. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

weve done all that but he definately hasnt got Cassie hes passed her on. Apparently everyone in Seacroft is talking about our dogs so she must be out of the area now. The local asbo enforcement officer is on with the case now and she says they have a better success rate than the police. She believes the story in the paper tonight will make Cassie to hot to handle and she will either be put on the street or an innocent person will have her and give her back. Lets hope we have some good news soon. Its a week today since they went missingLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Could you leaflet all the houses in the same road where this 'chap' that was sold Allie and Cassie is? As I'm sure the whole street won't be loyal to this chap and he can't keep her cooped up all day every day without walks. Someone would see him walking her or hear her barking... Also leaflet every local pub to this street, every corner shop, lampost etc etc. Make that area so hot that he will have to give her backLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just when we think its getting better we get a phone call from the lad who took the dogs and he says he definately gave them both to the guy who had Allie. The guy told the lad he'd not got cassie anymore, that he'd given her away but this guy tells the police he's only had allie. Stalemate !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just an update. The police told me the lads parents were decent people so I wrote to them and sent them a poster to appeal to them to help us get cassie back. Ive just had a call from the lads step father saying they are extremely embarressed and dont support their son in any way. He said they have made him tell them where Cassie is and have rung the police and they should be on with it now. As far as they can see the man who had Allie has sold Cassie on to someone in Swarcliffe which is Quite local to where Allie was. Cath, sorry to see you have lost faith with the police and not getting the co-operation as you did at the beginning. Please do not print anyone?s names on the site or full postal addresses, just areas and roads. If you keep up with what you are doing and especially getting posters all around the area you will hopefully get more calls. An innocent person may have Cassie and once they see a poster or something in the paper will contact you, or possibly a neighbour of whoever has him. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The lad who stole them lives in eastdean grange, the maisonetts opposite tesco and Allie was found in a house 2 streets away, dont know the name. Lost a bit of faith in the police after a great start. They said they were on for the next 3 nights but now wont even return our call. We want to talk to them as we said we were not bothered about taking it any further if we got the dogs back but that was the deal for both dogs not one. We do think they should put more pressure on now, both on the lad, Can I print his name? and on the man who had Allie. Just been out to a false alarm, a red boxer tied up in a garden at seacroft. Dissapointing but at least people are looking. Allie is definately missing her sisterLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Some posters are up at Seacroft Hospital - just a few as they weren't too keen but key places like the car park pay machine, enquiries desk and only bus shelter have colour posters. Drove around the 'Kentmere's' and 'Boggart Hill's' earlier and spoke with just a couple of kids as there wasn't many people around, but didn't get anything at all from them. Do you know the street where Allie was found, as I'll happily drive around that area after work as I know what it's like to have your dog missing and this stealing of dogs really angers me. Can the Police not put anymore pressure on this lad (I won't type what I'd like to call him) to further their lines of enquiry - he was caught with stolen property.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I work for the NHS within a mile of Seacroft and know the area ?reasonably? well. Unfortunately there are youths within the area who like to be seen with dogs such as Boxers/Staffies and it's no surprise that after a day or so they look to sell them on as they can?t actually look after them. I?ve a white Boxer myself, who gets a lot of attention from such youngsters when we?re out and about. I?ll poster Seacroft Hospital car park later today as that will get the attention of local staff and patients/families. I?ll also drive around a couple of the estates within Seacroft later this morning and early evening and see if I can speak with any ?likely lads? who might be willing to share any information. Feeling realy deflated tonight, after ten hours of leaflet ping in the area Allie was found, we have had no feedback except for various people saying they had been offered our dogs for ?50 the pair on thursday. Why none of them called the police I will never know. Realy expected to recieve a phone call of a sighting tonight, but nothing. Cant even get to speak to the pc's who were so helpful last night as they are on an incident. Cath, welcome on board DL and thanks for registering and posting on Cassie's page. You need to get out loads of posters and target areas where lots of people go, shops (newsagents, food stores, takeaways etc), ask postmen and milk men. When visiting kennels leave a poster and ask if they will display it. If you border with other Councils make sure you contact their authorities. Do keep us updated on where has been postered and any possible sightings. Good luck and hope to see them in the blue soon. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

At weekend we are going to put up posters in rounhay park and wherever else we can think of. We are desperate to get them back, they are such lovely dogs and most of all they love each other and have never been seperated in their life. Thanks again, we appritiate your help so much. I've reduced both posters onto one A5 flyer - I'll distribute 150 of them before 17:00 at Sainsburys, Moortown, as it's a popular store within the area where the dogs live. If children have found the dogs (it's half term in Leeds) there's the potential that they will be read by parents/adult relatives.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Leeds Dog Wardens stop working at 16:30 Fri until 9:00 Mon, after this WY Police deal with lost & found dogs. They use 2 kennels - Springfield 01924 271028 and Marina 0148 4426407. Bradford Dog Wardens use Fleet Lane 01274 880408, just in case someone from Bradford picked them up and took them home before reporting. I've rang all 3 at 14:30 and none have either of your Boxers. It is worth trying these all weekend - they were very helpful when I lost my Springer Spaniel. There's also farm land north of LS17 - it is possible a farmer has found them and has kept them rather than take them to be scanned or report them to the police. I'll happily use the posters as flyers and distribute them Sainsbury's on the ring road if you'd like later today.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
