I've been off site for a few days and have just logged on to see this wonderful reunion photograph. I am a tough old boot and tears don't come that easy to me, but I am sitting here blubbing like a baby. What a fantastic little dog. I'm going to make a point of going to meet her very soon. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Beautiful brave Bazzie, these dogs never cease to amaze me with their courage and tenacity. Heartwarming for those owners with dogs still missing. Welcome home Bazzie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Arrrr... what a lovely piccie - the story also brought tears to my eyes. Jenny, thanks for sharing that touching moment with us. And what a lovely arrangement between Bazzie, Dora and Jenny, Bazzie's new 'carer'. Jenny, you must be a very kind and decent person to take on these oldies and then take them on regular visits to see Dora - may your kindness bring you all the luck in the world because you deserve it! And yes, what a survivor Bassie is. First of all clipped by a car and then living rough in the 'wilds of Chingford' for 3 weeks. But finally, I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to those DL Helpers who did an absolute brilliant job and, in doing so, made Bazzie the hottest girl in town! Welcome home sweet Bazzie - I expect you are all snuggled up in bed with Mum all nice and warm!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear Jayne I have attached a photo that I got when I took Bazzie to see her elderly owner, Dora, after she was found. Dora had Bazzie, and her mother Cassie, for nine years but had to give them up when she had to move into a care home. They came to live with me and I regularly take them to visit her at the home. She was delighted to have Bazzie back and as you can see gave her a big cuddle. She is very grateful for all the help that Doglost gave in trying to track her down. It was just chance that it was her disc on the collar which enabled the lady who found her to contact me. Al the posters and flyers have been an enormous help to spread the word. Bazzie is fine and seems and shows no sign of being adversely affected by her ordeal of living wild in the forest for over 3 weeks. It is amazing. Keep up the good work''e mail from bazzie Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have a friend who walks her dogs in Knighton Woods every day and who had Bazzie's poster right from the start. I would like to think that if this person hadn't found Bazzie, she would have done eventually. Makes my hair curl to think of the busy roads Bazzie has crossed...... I hope she goes on to have an even longer and happy life. She deserves it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm so pleased that Bazzie's story has a happy ending, my aged aunties the poodle breeders who died last year managed to hang on til they were 94 and 102 - until all their dogs had died! I know how much they mean to an old person. But how is Jenny going to explain the new slimline Baz - her owner will think she's been starved LOL! Best for Baz to lose weight anyway, it will give her another few years of life - but what a drastic way to do it!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She's found!!! A lady was walking her dogs in Knighton Woods (an area we did not look in at all of course!) when they flushed her out from under a bush. Bazzie ran up to the lady and she she put a lead on her and phoned the number on the disc which was still attached to her collar. I picked up the phone and a voice said "Have you lost a dog called Bazzie because I have here. I couldn't believe it. She has obviously lived wild for 3 weeks but except for being much thinner and rather grubby she is fine. She is very pleased to be back here and is now sleeping with her mother in their bed. I have sent a message to her owner who of course is delighted with the news. I will take Bazzie to see her tomorrow. Despite the fact that Doglost did not directly find her it has been a huge support and I cannot thank enough the people who have spread the word with leaflets and posters etc. We did not do the right area because to reach it she had to go along way along busy roads and I never thought of her being in that rather isolated part of the forest. Keep up the good work Doglost , you are doing a great job. Many thanks Jenny Johns By the way the article is in the Guardian local paper today, the very day she was found. I hope they do a follow up!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunatly there has been no news or sightings, even though everyone has done an absolutely fantastic job of postering and distributing the flyers. The local Guardian paper is going to run a story - thank you very much Guardian - so hopefully Jenny will get some news following that. Jenny or myself will post on here to let you know once we know what day its going to be in the paper. I think that perhaps we need to be moving over to the Snaresbrook area, and should leaflet the roads around Station Road in Chingford. A dog that has been hit by a car may be confused and might circle or double back on itself. Bazzie needs to be in the free papers, so every household knows about her. Let's hope she goes in this week.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I popped a few leaflets into the houses at the top of Whitehall Lane today (the end furthest from Whitehall Rd) and a couple of posters in roads off Woodford High Road. Do we need more posters in Highams Park area? I wont be able to do v much next week as back to work, but would like to know when Bazzies publicity is in the local paper. Cheers.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Absolutely sj, if Bazzie has made it this far, she is likely to be with someone who thinks she is a stray and doesn't know what they should do. We must keep postering the areas local to where she went missing and leafletting homes. She really needs to go into the local free paper, then everyone in the area will see her and know her story.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would like to thank everyone who has helped us look for Bazzie but there have been absolutely no sightings since Whitehall Road on the day she left , now two weeks ago, despite everyones' efforts. I have spoken to the PR lady for Doglost and she is going to do an article for the Guardian local paper (all areas nearish to here) and the Independent which is the free newspaper delivered to our houses. Lets hope this may make someone realise that she is not a stray if they have been looking after her. I really am now beginning to feel that we can do no more but wait and see. My son, his friend and I went out tonight and leafletted about 250 homes around the Woodford side of the golf course and in the lanes off Chingford lane, round the other side. I spoke to dog walkers, and am told that there is a close community of doggy people, and the word will be spread. Poster up in the church on the edge of the course and leaflets left. Spoke to a chap who works with the Waltham Forset dog warden and who will also spread the word. Also postered along Whitehall Road. More posters are needed along Station Road shopping centre Chingford and the roads on the north side of Kings Road (Chingford) between Station Road and Chingford Green, particularly Forest Side and the roads leading off to the forest. That must be the way that Bazzie travelled. Can anyone get there tomorrow?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the flyers. Have posted some in Newlands Road and the Pines (off Whitehall Road) as these seemed to have gardens backing on to the forest. Will print off some more and wait to hear where SB or Jenny advises to put them. Do you think there is any chance Bazzie could be heading back towards her home or would she be more likely to continue south through the woods - or even come back out and go north to the other side of Whitehall Road which also has woods? Stay safe Bazzie xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I put a few posters in the roads off Friday Hill this afternoon but I dont know if this is really close enough to where Bazzie was last seen. I think SBs idea for leafleting houses backing onto the forest is an excellent one - I looked on google maps and hadn't realised how many gardens there are where she could get into from the forest. How do we get flyers? I'm happy to print some off and deliver for a couple of hours tomorrow.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I spent about 2 1/2 hours this morning from 7am looking for Bazzie and putting up posters. I concentrated on the golf course and thereabouts. There are loads of very thick gorse bushes which could provide her with cover, which is important as the temp was minus 6. No response to calling. I spoke to other early dog walkers and golfers, none of whom had seen her but will now be looking.. Although there are vast open and wooded spaces in the forest, there is also a lot of residential housing. I think this is the best chance of finding her. She might well pitch up in someone's garden when she gets really hungry. More posters are needed in the forest and in local shopping centres, and would it be possible to do a d r o p of flyers through all homes that border the golf course and forest?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jenny I have got a phone number for the Forest Wardens who will look out for lost dogs it is 8532 1010. It is a 24 hr number so you could call today with Bazzie's details - might be an answerphone. Another number to try for information on lost dogs is the visitor centre on 8508 0028. They are open today and could probably tell you the procedure for what happens if they find a dog. Best of luck, Sarah PS I will do some posters in Highams park later today or early tmorrow morning. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jenny, I will get in touch with the PR lady I mentioned about and get back to you. You are all doing a great job getting as wide an area as possible covered so stick at it. Also, if there are pubs etc near to the forest they are worth alerting too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Many thanks Sarah. Having spent the afternoon walking in the forest in the Highams Park area I am becoming more convinced that it is very unlikely that we will personally find Bazzie. By now she could be anywhere. I think that our only hope is to spread the word around as much as possible so that if anyone does spot her they will know to phone me and then maybe we can get her. Searching the forest is really not productive. I will email the Warren to tell the Forest rangers etc about her, many thanks for that suggestion I thought that it was a good idea. I will also contact the Woodford Golf Club to alert them and then I feel that as well as putting up posters in as wide as area as possible, which is where you can all help because it is very time consuming, I will try and get an article in the local free newspapers. Jotty you said someone who does PR may contact me. Is she now better and able to do so ? That will spread the message out very widely and cover a much greater area than we can possibly cover. Once again many thanks to anyone who has helped us in our search for Bazzie. Jenny JohnsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good morning - have just come back from doing a few posters and see what you mean about the area to look in, it is vast, but hopefully someone will spot Bazzie v. soon. I postered bus stop at Seymour Court, lampost in Newlands Rd, bus stop at end of Forest Road, had a short walk in wood behind Forest Rd and came out on golf course, gave poster to three girls with their dog, put posters in Woodside Rd and Morningside Road (outside a school), gave poster to lady with dog in Sunset Avenue. On the way back l put one half way along Brook Road in case she went that side, also poster given to lady in the Cedars whose neighbour will look out as well. Saw your poster on Forest Side and put one further along by Warren Pond poop bin. Can't do much more today but am off work for half term so could come out for more postering during the week with SB? How did you get on with the forest rangers, are they looking out for Bazzie as well? regards, SarahLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am Bazzie's carer and am very grateful and touched by all the messages, advice and offers of help etc that people have given. Due to the posters that we have put up we have recently had two phone calls giving information of sightings on the day she escaped and found that she ran into the forest on the Woodford side of Whitehall Road. That piece of forest stretches via Highams Park lake area and Oak Hill, up to the Waterworks and on to Hollow Ponds. This is a vast area to cover and it is like looking for a needle in a haystack. We have put posters around the lake area at Highams Park not as yet any further along this route. I do not know if dogs move on in this situation or tend to stay in one area. She is a nervous dog and i am afraid may bite if someone tries to pick her up. If we had any sightings we could at least visit that area and she if we can find her . There have been no known sightings since Tues 5th Feb and this surprises me. She seems to have completely vanished. JennyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi sj100 and welcome aboard Doglost and thanks a lot for your offer of help! I would suggest you give the owner a call to check what areas she has already covered and what else needs doing - or owner/carer if you are reading this could you post an update here to let sj100 know please. I am not local at all to this area so I can't really advise on what roads best to do myself. What we urge helpers to do when they have generously been out postering is to update the dogs page to let others know where they have postered and so then everyone knows what needs to still be done. The best thing with the posters is to put them in the clear plastic sleeves if you have any as then protected from the rain. Put them in so the opening of the sleeve is at the bottom of the poster as this prevents them even more from getting wet. In regards to where to poster best thing is to be sensible....you must avoid private land (e.g. gates/fences) unless landowners have given you permission. Best to put the posters up in areas where lots of people will see either in where they walk or from a car or a bus. So, for example could poster lamposts, traffic lights, bus stops, noticeboards (if public, ask if private boards) etc. Good to also ask shops, stations etc if they will display a poster too. Also, if you are driving around the area, put a poster up in your car. I hope that helps, any other questions just shout. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I'm new to Doglost In fact I dont't actually own a dog but have been more than impressed by the volunteers efforts to help others in distress and would like to do my bit if possible. I live in Enfield area but could get across to Chingford tomorrow (Sat.) a.m. to put some posters up if someone would let me know which roads etc. to put them. Also I read that you can only put posters on certain things is it OK to do lampposts but not trees and what sort of tape is best? Please let me know. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks SB....good luck. Will keep you posted if there are any developments. Have sent you a PM. If there are any helpers that can assist, even if its not as early as 6.30am, maybe you could arrange to meet a little later and continue the search? This little dogs elderly owner will be devasted if Bazzie is not found. Bazzie went missing from Mornington Road in Chingford where she escaped from her house and was then clipped by a car causing her to run off. She was seen later that afternoon in the Woodford Green area around Whitehall Road and headed right in the direction of the forest. Bazzie is actually owned by an elderly lady who is now in a home. She is being cared for (along with the lady's other dog) by the lady who registered her on DL and who is the contact for Bazzie. Currently the elderly owner is unaware Bazzie is missing so we need to find her and get her home asap before her next visit to the home is due! Understandably the carer had reservations about telling and distressing the elderly owner straight away after Bazzies disappearance and hopefully we can find Bazzie and prevent any worry. Will ask our PR co-ord if she can help with a story on this to try and get some local media coverage. Carer has notified the chip company and has also transferred the details on the chip to her. Please note the phone number on Bazzie's tag is the elderly owners house phone number and there is no one at this property any longer although carer is frequently going back to check the answerphone - carer maybe you could investigate having the number diverted to you? Carer has contacted DW's in Redbridge, Waltham Forest and Epping Forest, also Chingford Police (who were very helpful) and Woodford Green Police, Hillside Kennels, Battersea and RSPCA and local vets all been contacted. She has poster locally and will continue to do so along with postering in shops, notifying stables, rangers etc. Bazzie is quite a nervous dog so may not be that easy to approach. Carer - is there any chance she could try heading back to her elderly owners home? Please, if there are any helpers locally can you poster where you can. Thank you. Stay safe Bazzie. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also meant to say the lady looking after Bazzie is going to register on DL and post an update as well once her account has been activated. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Which part of Chingford and which part of Woodford Green? What's Bazzie's sense of direction like - Do you think she knows the area well enough to find her way back? I have friends in Woodford and will alert them. Will drive home that way tonight. Worth looking in the forest and getting in touch with the rangers. Waltham Forest dog warden is pretty good too, give her a call. Good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
