I took the initial call from Rudy's 'Grandad and yes he can use the computer ok and access the internet. In fact he acually sent Rudy's photo to me via an email ! I seem to recall his 'Grandad' telling me that his daughter had not had him for all his life and that he had been a rescue dog. Therefore if she had not had him all that long he may well have NOT known his way back to her. I have moved house on two occasions with an elderly dog and they were both very confused and NEVER did know where their new homes were and would in fact walk straight past it on their lead and then look all suprised when i turned in the gate ! Rudy's Grandad I am sorry you have had no further news of Rudy and I am always on the lookout for him on rescue websites. Pam xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Smaller posters for Rudy now on info centre, left hand side above Dolly's Directive logo. Please download and print. Use them for handouts and for posting through doors. Come on Rudy. You've got to be home in the warm. Stay safe now xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just talk to the owners dad he told me that Rudy only live about a mile away, he had not through of putting poster up where the dog lived but he said that this was a good possibility, so he is going there today and also the rescue where his daughter lives and take posters, he told me his own dog who is nearly blind also knows when in the car when they are nearly home, so he agreed that Rudi would have the sens of direction. he is also going to get his daughter to put smaller poster in the neighbors doors so if anyone can help owner with smaller posters that would be good. Hope this will help to get Rudi home, I have also had a reply from a school near by and they are going to get the link for Rudi's poster and help with this Peter if you are reading this thank you so much for helping. If Rudy does not live far from his 'grandparents' house it would be worth postering eveerywhere in between, as Doglady says dogs have an uncanny knack of recognising places or things that we are probab ly not aware of. This poor old guy has been missing for some time now and could probably do with his home comforts. Stay safe Rudy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I drove around to the Little Chef on wed and had a look about, then put a couple of posters up in Hoby and Ragdale, nearby villages. I can some more tomorrow there was a shop in another village but it was closed. I'll try and collar our postman as he obviously drives all around this area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How far away dose Rudy live from the parents house, I know that it says Rudy only travels there by car but dog do know where they are going in cars if done on a regular basis, so if posters can be put up where he lives and also may be ask any of the neighbors if they could keep and eye out for him, just in case he is trying to make his way home, this is not imposable for a dog of his age. Owners are doing all they can, but this is quite a rural area. We really need more posters puting out. Posters will bring sightings - eventually !!! Rudy has been loose some time now. He is an elderly little person, but has obviously found a regular food source. Anyone in the area got any ideas? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wow !! Sue, you are an absolute star !!! Thank you so much for your massive effort today, and offer of more help tomorrow. Although it maybe wasn't quite the area, but what a stroke of luck bumping into the army and spreading the word. The point is, that the more people that are aware the better and word will spread quicker. All of those people you have alerted today will be back and forth along those roads, so at least now we do have people looking for Rudy. I'm sure he will go back to that Little Chef at some point, as there is bound to be some rubbish somewhere that may have food. What a little survivor indeed. Lets hope he can be found before his owner comes out of hospital. Once again - brilliant effort !! well done.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to owners and it appears Rudy was seen on the Leicester side of the A46, AFTER the Island if you approach from the Nottingham end, so this is opposite to where I have been out today. I may see if I can get out to that area now tomorrow. Apparently he was last seen by a lady and a lorry driver near to a "Little Chef"? along that road and ran off across fields. Tomorrow I may look around Old Dalby areas and in-between, they would be a good bet. It sounds as though he is not keen to be caught and I had not realised he has been missing since before Chritsmas - bless him, he is a survivor !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just spoken to the owners of Rudy and they have had no more sightings of him since the one last week at the layby. He has alerted the dog warden for Melton Mowbray and also left contact details with the pound he has been told Rudy would be taken to if picked up where he was sighted. He has been back out to the area searching for Rudy and also alerted the nearby Little Chef in case Rudy is seen rummaging there for food. Rudy is actually their daughters dog and they were looking after him whilst she is in hospital so Rudy does not know the area he went missing from as he was always taken there by car. Rudy's owners are most gratefull to all of you that are helping them and it gives great comfort to know others are looking out for him !Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Todays activities: Drove through Long Clawson to Hickling, by the Grantham Canal, and then out towards Hickling. Sadly, printer packed in after printing ONE poster, so I simply had to stop and ask people, showing them the poster. Nice days, so quite a few people out for a walk and most took details, website and phone number. I was lucky to actually bump into the Army dog handlers on a training exercise near Kinoulton - what luck eh ! So I showed them the poster and they have promised to print more posters out when they get backl to camp and post them around the camp, they have several dog walkers from local areas. Of course, they also promised to keep an eye open for Rudy and if he was out around the fields they stood a good chance of seeing today where they were training. I then drove out the village and onto the A46, turning back towards the roundabout junction before again driving back along a different road into Kinoulton. This is the area I assume Rudy was seen. There are few houses around there, and not possible to keep stopping in a car along there, but I did notice a few wheelie bins on the roadside and some with a multitude of black bags, but NO sign of the bags being rifled through by an animal and no rubbish scattered. I think we need to establish EXAACTLY where Rudy was seen and by whom, and if this definitely Rudy as otherwise we could be on a wild goose chase here. I called into a couple of farms, stopped to ask some builders, and left details with the Nevile Arms Pub at Kinoulton, I left my one and only poster at the Plough Pub in Hickling, oppisite the canal as this is frequented by several people from Nottingham. The area also runs into Cotgrave, and I think the owners should contact the RSPCA at Radcliffe on Trent and the PDSA at Dunkirk if they have not already done so as this is in their catchment area. Sadly there were no sigthings of Rudy and this makes me wonder if the sighting was really him. Apart from the few houses on the A46, he would have had to travel quite some distance down empty lanes to reach more houses, for an old dog that would be unlikely. I will phone the owners just to catch up and hope they have a better idea where he was actually seen, in which case I may go back and have another go. All the schools in this area are on half term holiday this week :-(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ok sent out e-mails to a few pubs also vets and a school asking if they would be so kind as to put up the poster of Rudy, I ask the school if they would also be so kind as to ask the children if they could put up a few posters, in the area and also keep a look out and maybe ask other outlets if they would display poster ie shops. This area is densely farmland and copses, if he does not want to be found it will be hard to find him, let's hope he stays close to houses. Another thing may be to contact the Army as they use land all around there for training. Defence Animal Centre, Asfordby Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE13 0GR 01664 418600 Fax: 01664 418684 We exercise our dogs in the area and will keep an eye open, we also train with Anne (wife of milkman) [G]Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good effort on here. Thank you everyone who has responded. We cant get posters to the pubs by email I'm afraid, as most do not advertise an email address. Also with my experience of postering, a lot of pubs wont entertain it. This really need to be done on the ground, and it will probably mean asking a member of staff. The pubs really need doing in all of the surrounding villages, as there are loads. Again, thank you to all who have responded. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The local milkman sounds like just the man we need too lol Kellydogwarden...........when i took the call from the owner we did discuss the need to contact the dog warden for the area and i will have to try and find out if he has done this. I live near to the sighting and drive past there a few times a day, at all times. I'll keep my eyes peeled but can also poster my local pub in Grimston which is very popular with all the surrounding villages and local farmers, hunts etc. I'll also give the local milkman a poster his wife trains dogs and he's known locally for catching burglars etc as he's about delivering all over the area in the early hours. What a shame, hopefully I can help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I only wish I lived near to help. would it be an idea to may be get some names of bushiness's in the area ie pubs and a like and may be find there e-mail address and send some posters to them they may even help with putting them up, otherwise do the elderly couple have neighbors willing to help with posting. We are in desperate need of help with postering on this one if there are any helpers reading this, who could do a few for us. Believe owners are also elderly, and this sighting is in a rural position for them. Not my area I'm afraid, but I've looked at it on the map, and I think the best way to go beside postering the layby, and any bus stops etc along the roads, is to do the pubs. Have googled for those and there are loads, especially doing food, in all of the surrounding villages. People will be lunching at these places, and may be to and fro along the roads. If anyone local could take it upon themselves to get posters up in the restaurants, pubs, and car parks of the pubs, that would be an absolutely wonderful help. Also any houses, farms, stables, shops, could be postered. May be able to catch the postman, and any delivery drivers also. Poor old Rudy. I hope he has found a warm barn or stable to sleep in. Stay safe Rudy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

good idea to maybe get something with owners sent on so he may return to the bins and get lots of posters up and also contact the dog warden. if owner can also put food down by the bin if he is going to it for food. I hope this lovely boy is home soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rudy was wearing a red leather collar when he went missing. It is thought he initially headed in the direction of Ruddington so it is feasible that the sighting in the layby was him. He could well be hiding up in this area and any help with looking for him or postering would be very much appreciated ! Come home soon Rudy xxx PamLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rudy was SIGHTED on 7th Feb foraging through rubbish bins at a layby on the A46 to Leicester, near where it is crossed by the A606 road to Melton Mobray. This dog is elderly. Please look out. He may have been picked up by a passing car, but there is also the chance he may return to these bins if has found food there. Stay safe Rudy, until you are found xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
