I am so sorry to see lovely Whizz has passed, I remember him well and the endless searching his family did all those years ago. My thoughts are with them now. X
Belle
RIP Whizz. You gave a lot of people a lot of hope. <3
DogLostReynard
Mollychops was sad to hear from Whizz's owner Suzie that he had recently died.
We remember so well when Whizz was cruelly taken and then joyfully found due to his microchip miles away & the happy reunion.
Are thoughts are with you Suzie x

IT is such a refreshing change to have tears of joy. Welcome home Whizz.

Fingers crossed this is the beginning for ALL our long term missing to find home xxxx

Whizz's amazing story is featured in DogLost's column in the August edition of Dogs Today.

Wow. Amazing. What a wonderful surprise for his owners! So glad he got to be with his "real family" in his twilight years.xx
susieq666
I'm so glad you have him back. Sad that you have missed so much of his life.
Mary
I'm very pleased to see the update as I was very confused as to how Whizz had become Mitzi and only been missing 6 years not 9. Lovely reunited photo of Mitzi, but looking forward to seeing one of Whizz. As you say NickyB an amazing coincidence.
Unknown
Never mind SimonH, I think I can beat that. Couldn`t find my mobile this morning. It was in the washing machine with the towels Am off to buy another one. Ah well! takes all sorts. Anyway it`s a great photo.:-)xxx I`m another donut Lol!
NickyB
amazing 2 black patterdales found within days of each other after being missing 6 and 9yrs.......... thank heavens for the microchip and both owners kept details up to date.the little female shown on yorkshire vet series was totally still and sad at the vets but as soon as she heard her owners voice 6 years after going missing her little tail went mad. dogs simply have to be the most amazing wonderful animals on this planet, and so are all the people who help them. like the man/woman who stopped when they saw mitze just standing by the roadside picked her up, then all the lovely veterinary folk who helped her, and of course doglost.co.uk
Unknown
Simonh you donut! Lol
SimonH
That's my fault as I looked on a yorkshire local news page and took from that and sent to admin - my apologies
SGS
That isn't a photo of Whizz or his family...I think this is on the wrong page! Please could this be changed? I am glad that Mitzi is home safely. Whizz has settled back in to family life well. X
rescue_mum
This reunited picture is of the family from last night's Yorkshire Vet episode with Mitzi who is female, not male. Has this photo been put on the wrong page?
LH
There was a reunited one on the Yorkshire Vet last night but it was female called Mitzi who'd been missing for 6 years - but the dog looked very much like Whizz.
Happy ending!
Unknown
Hi Simbarose/ Hope your girl will be found soon. Paws xd.
Mary
What an absolutely lovely reunited photo.
Unknown
Great pic of Whizz with his family:-)xxx Assuming Whizz was stolen and slold on to an unsuspecting person. Iam wondering how the "Owner" is feeling now? These theives dont care about the hearache they cause. For them it`s all about gain.
Unknown
Assuming Whizz wqs sold on in good faith to an unsuspecting person, how upsetting it must be for that person. They must be devestated. These theives dont care about the heartache they cause; just abioyut money. Great pic of Whizz with his overjoyed family:-) :-) :-) :-)xxxxxx
Simbarose
Thank you Whizz as an owner of a long time missing your story has restored my faith in the microchip and has renewed my hope in finding my girl stolen a year ago. Hopefully I wont have to wait as long as your devoted family. Time to enjoy your remaining years with those who never gave up on you
Turtle
Lovely picture, happy days! ☺

I am told the reunion has just been shown on the Yorkshire Vet.

Meeka
OMG - I remember Whizz going missing not long after my Maggie - you must be over the moon, so very pleased for you all to finally have closure and him back home where he belongs looking like such a distinguished gentleman, just goes to show you should never give up hope, special cuddles x
SGS
I am so glad that Whizz's return has given so much happiness, to not only us, but also to everybody who is still desperately waiting to hear about their beloved, missing dog. He has settled in so well, and I simply can't believe that he is finally home. Thank you for your lovely messages and please never give up hope!! X

Nine and half years after going missing, Whizz is finally back at home...rather grey around the muzzle, but he is now 14! I simply can't believe it after all of this time, I don't suppose we will ever find out what his story is, but it does have a happy ending. The power of the microchip!! Xx

OMG WOW His owners must be over the moon?
The power of the chip works its wonder once again
Mollychops does anyone know the story?

That's unbelievable!!!
I would love to know his story!!
Does this mean he hasn't been scanned in 9 years?
Mollychops
Whizz is on his way home 9 1/2 years after going missing . He is in good nick generally and responded to his name .The power of the chip !!
LH
Crikey! That would be absolutely brilliant!
Mollychops
Owner has had a call from a dog warden in Northamptonshire to say It looks like Whizz has been possibly found as the chip details match . This would be incredible, lets hope its him. Owner has gone there today and will update later . Fingers crossed

Sadly Sponge has gone to Rainbow Bridge. But we must keep thinking of ways to find Whizz... They are racing at Newbury on Friday and Saturday, would it be possible to hand round leaflets? or give them to people as they leave the course? Some should also be put in the staff canteen which is just on the left as you come over the railway bridge to the racecourse stables. Maybe the lady who sells the Racing Post at the main entrance would give some out... People tend to leave the course after the second last, then the last, then about 30/45 mins after that. There are several car parks.... A lot of dog people use Greenham Common as it's fenced in - have you postered up there? it's a long way from where Whizz went missing, but popular for walking. Our jack russell terrier Sponge has gone missing from close to Lambourn (please look at her details on the website) and reynard has suggested I get in touch with Whizz's owner for ideas. Yes Whizz is docked. There was a possible sighting of Whizz on the road between Bushton and Clyffe Pypard, sadly the sighting was last Monday and the woman who saw him didn't see the poster until Friday. so the information was days late. I spent most of yesterday walking and driving around there, heavy postering in that area tomorrow. A long shot, but it might have been him. There is also a poster campaign for the P2P at Barbury this w/e to try and jog some memories. Thanks for all your help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whizz's mum ~ great to talk to you today, you are working so hard to get your little man back and you are aninspiration to others! I have spoken to Pidgeons mum this afternoon (HRpostcode) Pidge has been re-united, and her mum has made some valuable contacts which may help you. We are between Alan King and Brian Meehan, hence my Barbury theory. Whizz does know the area well and he covered most of it prior to his "snip" a year ago! I have sent posters to all 5 Pt2pt Meetings for this weekend. PosterS gone to Hen Knight to cover Wantage. Lambourn vets are also taking posters around with them. Have also posters at Andy Turnell's yard Broad Hinton, and at your suggestion Wroughton airfield, now go-kart track. Any more ideas gratefully received. Thank you!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There's a farrier/blacksmith almost on the crossroad / junction of the roads which meet coming up from Lambourn going towards Membury - just along towards Baydon, only a few hundred yards. He's very helpful about lost dogs. But I still think it unlikely Whizz will have crossed the M4. If you are following the Ridgeway north though, don't forget all the racings yards at Kingston Lisle, the livery stable [good place to give posters out, on the right as you go through towards The Blowing Stone] and the pub there. Where do you live btw - where would Whizz go to try to get home?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant, thank you!! I will look through Larkhill entries when they come out and try to target trainers, yards and jockeys. I have also written to local hunts asking them to forward posters to their terrier men. I have e-mailed Delly Everard at CA to put on grassroutes letter. A local retired policeman has also been around to see most of the travellers sites, with posters. I am trying to locate a local ratting pack, as they use terriers a lot. Any ideas?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will email Tracey a racing photogapher who goes to all the West Country P2Ps although as she is now accredited to Cheltenham and they are racing next Sat she might not be at Larkhill. She will know people going though! She is a member of DogLost but I don't know her user name! - lives in Devon. Her website is http://www.turfpix.com/ ] I know another lady who is involved in the local P2P scene, will email her too, tho again she will prob want to watch Cheltenham. Do try finding all the P2P trainers locally too - they exercise horses of course, and the local hunt, as I still think Whizz might be in the area. Any if them might find someone to hand out posters for you if you pay a few bob [stable staff always need the extra dosh]. P2P ie Permit trainers will be on the 2nd website i listed aboveLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Greylady asked me to check in as I'm very involved int he racing scene and know the Lambourn area well, tho I live in Suffolk! You've obviously done the rounds of the Lambourn stables but I doubt he's got that far - you should do mainly all the WILTS stables on the Marlborough side of the M4 - Alan King at Barbury Castle especially - ring the yard and ask how they can help, they are very nice there, and take posters for all the staff to hand around - it's a big stable with lots of staff. There is also a huge kind of old barracks near there with lots of odd people milling about, and acres of open space, fenced in areas, disused buildings etc. You can find local trainers at the National Trainers Federation website - this is the 'contact' page: http://www.racehorsetrainers.org/contacts/findtrainerbyalpha.asp just click on the county, all the local trainers will come up, with contact details. Other trainers nearby are Brian Meeham at Manton [try his wife Kim, she's more approachable!]. I think its unlikely if your dog is on the loose he's gone the other side of the M4 - most likely he's been 'picked up' but if he's around it will be in that huge area without roads... I think there is one other trainer in that bit other than King, but the yard office will tell you. Alan & his wife have terriers themselves! It's poss someone at the yard picked up the dog - tho if he was tagged..... Try also RAF Wroughton, I think that's the base I mean - a lot of it's being developed now, there was talk of turning it into a camp for Asylum Seekers but I think it's just going for housing, plenty of workmen about anyway. If Whizz has run down towards Swindon he'll be down in that complex somewhere there's a big garage down there too. If he ran the other way, he might be in the Avebury area. Good luck, glad there are so few roads round there - sorry I'm not planning to be down again til early Feb. Greylady, this isn't really so close to Malmesbury, in terms of postering, but I suppose if one lot of travellers is responsible, then it might as well be... Best would be to find out when the next local PtoP is and turn up to leaflet mob-handed, I'll ask around Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well that suggest to me TRAVELERS! need to check any in your area and as name suggest may be on the move. Of course some well meaning person may have thought he was lost. Do you know anyone in the Horse Racing game as they may well be able to help you spread the word. You will also need to regulary contact Santuarys etc as they have many dogs coming in and unfortunatly do not always scan for a chip (see Dollys Directive). I have forwarded details to Swindon dog warden and I will send more posters out to Vets etc. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
