Thank you Beaglemum for all your help. Come on Benji where are you? I do hope owner has checked in with the other owners as they may still be able to help. This little guy is chipped but I would still check often as possible at rescues and vets still don't always check. Advertise in local press. Please keep it going keep the faith for the return of Benji and check out Tanner SW whippet for happy endings. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There isn't a railway line for many miles and I did contact the Highways Agency way back not long after he went missing as the M50 is not too far away. I did post earlier to say that they contacted me a few weeks ago and despite their operatives working along the M50 on a daily basis there was nothing to report. It really is a mystery and after I spoke to the owner the other day she is thinking he must have been stolen. It is a real mystery as where he went missing I cannot think that nobody would have seen Benji walking along that stretch of road. It is in between two villages and his owner seems to think that he couldn't have covered much distance at speed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Beaglemum that is very kind of you to help out Benjie's mum & thanks for checking out previous posts. Has the highways agency been asked or is there a railway line near or something like that, as this dear chap is 16 it would be unlikely for him to be wandering around do you think? Please keep checking with Vets, rescues etc as they do not always check for a chip sadly and poster as much as possible you would be amazed that people dont think to check that he has a home and is lost and a poster may be enough to alert them.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is quite difficult to check out the camps around here as even the Police are loathe to visit and I don't feel inclined to call on my own! Apart from the owner I think I am the only person actively involved with the search. A few travellers were questioned and shown a poster when the local camp was flooded out and some of then had to move on to the pub car park. They said they hadn't seen Benji and Benji wasn't seen obviously when they were visited. I don't know how much joy we would have with Stroud Council or that local MP as we are quite a long way off from that area. Where Benji went missing is actually on the Glos/Worcs boundary which is way North of the County. I will speak to them though. I am going to call Benji's mum again though as I noticed she has put another ad in the local Post Office with a more recent photo of him which is quite a distinctive picture of him. Thanks for your suggestions. I will tell her to forward photo of him so maybe his poster can be updated.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So greatful for all your help Beaglemum and Jammer, we do lack helpers in your area we really could do with recruiting a few! Apparently there are many 'camps' near by, do you know if they have been checked out? Also Terry Hale at Stroud Council 01594833508 and the local MP were looking into local stolen dogs, worth a call. Has the other owners with lost dogs Rosie, Todd and Judy been contacted as maybe able to help. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think we have done just about all we can in this area but I have spoken to all Dog Wardens in surrounding areas and still there is nothing. Owner knows that she can call on me any time for help if need be though it would have been good to have more people involved in the early days. I have told Benji's mum to let me know if she wants more posters and leaflets etc. I am at a loss now as to what more we can do. In our thoughts still dear Benji.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have spoken to Benjis mum today to offer support, she is a person without a lot of friends/relatives to help getting stuff done. We have had a chat about looking and ringing and postering further afield. Whether she is able to get help with this I don't know, I am down in Kent so am unable to get more actively involved. Please come home Benji.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a chat with owner and she has considered it a strong possibilty that Benji has come to grief but not being able to find him is the mystery as he couldn't have gone too far. Had a call from the Highways Agency to say that although their workers had been along the M50 recently doing their routine clearing up of the verges etc they have not come across a dog. I thanked them for keeping us up to date and asked them still to bear in mind that he is still missing and let us know if they find anything. Always in our thoughts Benji.X.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will speak to her but I think that she has already considered that he has come to grief but if that is the case I just wish that the poor old lad could be found.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The river Leadon is the other end of the village and there is a lake near the A417 but I can't imagine he would get that far without being seen or even getting there due to his infirmity. I will check Ordinance Survey Map of the area in case there are other pools etc nearby. The area has been flooded a bit but not as bad as some areas. Trouble is that a lot of ditches have not been able to cope with the amount of water that we have had and some have been like fast flowing streams. That is a worry that has crossed my mind. Don't know if owner has been over old ground to check. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for being so pro-active and positive Beaglemum, I am sure Benjie's owner is grateful to you for your help. How bad were the floods at the time? Do you think Benjie could have wandered off to a nearby river (is there one?) Not a nice thought I know, but could this account for the lack of sightings??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Difficulty posting last night! The latest is that the owner has spoken to the girlfriend of the man who thought he saw Benji. It seems that it wasn't Benji after all sadly. I have contacted BBC radio stations, Hereford and Worcester and Gloucester. Radio Glos said that they don't do announcements any more for lost and found pets but if anyone phones in with a lost or found pet they do try and tie up any info' they have so I gave them as much info' on Benji as I could. Hereford and Worcester said they would try and put it out on air but not sure if they did so I will chase it up. I just cannot understand how such an old frail dog could just vanish into thin air, surely he couldn't get that far. The only other theory is that he has been 'picked up' but that remains unexplained as he had ID and a chip. Thinking of you Benji wherever you are.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The owner said she was going to ask people in Playley Green and take posters with her. I did ask her to update me but haven't heard anything. I haven't called her as we have had a bad day here-one of our dear old Beagles passed away this morning. However I want to keep positive for dear Benji if I can and try and get going myself tomorrow. There are only half a dozen or so houses where the sighting was but I will try and speak to the owner in the morning to see if she has been over there. No point me going is she has already been. Please show up Benji.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Beaglesmum. Do you think Benji's owner is able to put posters through all of the doors here?? This does sound positive though doesn't it?...................Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner and she has contacted all known local rescues but nothing. She said that a local man 'phoned today to say that he thought he saw Benji a few days ago at Playley Green which is a road on the edge of the village alongside the A417. He said he was sniffing around the dustbins so I guess that must have been Tuesday which is bin collection day around the village. I advised owner to go around the few houses that are there and ask if they had seen anything and could they confirm what this man told her. Thinking of you still Benji.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will check with her again and make sure that she has done that but I did contact the Worcester Animal Rescue Shelter and nothing there that fits the description of Benji. I haven't contacted any others as I thought the owner was doing that but will find out. I have been out again today and done some more door to door around the edges of the village where properties are quite isolated but don't think there is much more ground to cover on that score. People I have spoken to en route are quite aware and have said that they have seen posters etc in local shops which is good. People are very concerned about dear Benji. It is so strange how he has totally vanished without even one sighting. I just hope he wasn't stolen for whatever reason. You are still very much in our thoughts Benji. I have spoken to DW's for all surrounding areas today including Malvern, Worcester, Wyre Forest, Wychavon,Hereford, Redditch and Bromsgrove. I have also spoken to the Highways Agency responsible for the nearby M50 Motorway. They were very helpful. I have been out this morning to do door to door around the last few farms and properties on this side of Redmarley. Been to the Hunt Kennels and left leaflets. Been to nearby village Post Office at Staunton and also got a poster put up at the Swan pub in Staunton and the Garden Centre. Been to a little haulage firm in Redmarley and they have put a poster up on their notice board and will give a leaflet to all 20 of their drivers to keep with them when they are out on the road. Have spoken to owner and she is going to poster around the village on trees, poles etc. Unfortunately lamposts don't exist around here! So worrying now as the weather is dreadful and not looking good for the weekend. Please come home Benji.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have forwarded the poster onto a couple of contacts at Hartpury College and asked that they put posters up there. A lot of the students come from the outlying local areas. Stay safe Benji, hurry home. ClaireLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am not going away now as bad weather predicted here for the next two days and there could be bad floods. Today I have put flyers through doors in outlying lanes etc in Redmarley and spoken to a few people. I will contact Worcester Animal Rescue Shelter tomorrow and will try and find out if there are any other little rescue places in the neighbouring towns. If a shelter has got him I do hope they check for a chip. Still very much in our thoughts Benji.XXX. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much beaglemum! Benji's mum mentioned that she had met someone this afternoon who has told her about DL, so maybe that was you?? I have chatted to her about calling the different DW's tomorrow as she is so close to the Hereford and Worcs border, so I wondered if he was picked up whether a different DW might have him. She has contacted the Forest of Dean DW at the mo, but will call the others tomorrow, as well as Cheltenham Animal Shelter, Teckels, and H&WAR. Can you suggest any other likely places please as we really ned someone with some local knowledge here! Thanks for everything you have done so far.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have printed some flyers off today before I saw the current poster and I have leafletted most of Redmarley village and left some at the Post Office. Gave one to a horse rider and a couple of dog walkers. Have been to see owner and left some flyers with her. It is so worrying as there have been no sightings up to now. I am unable to do much until the weekend as I will be out of area but I am hoping for some good news on this dear old lad. I have spoken to a doggy friend locally who is always willing to help where possible. Keep safe Benji.XXX.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
