awww thanks for trying goggo. anyway just a quick update....... Ted has been given a clean bill of health by the vet other than being slightly dehydrated and very under nourished, he will make a full recovery. he has some tablets to help him to sleep so he can gather his strength back. the poor fellas exhausted. gotta get him ready for photos with the local press tomorrow ...... the things a dog will do to get a bit of fame lol Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad TED is back i live in Baginton and went walking My dog molly when ever i could to see if we could see him. I work shifts so would have a drive round early hours to see if he was around. Thought he might get to the 2 collies from the pub and stop for a play around!!!! I would be distraught if Molly went missing so i'm sooooo glad its a happy endingLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thought you would like read what a helper from another group wrote about our wanderer. i think its brill!!!! The Story of Ted It was early in the evening. I was walking in the park. The lights were coming on although it wasn't really dark. The weather was quite awful, a kind of heavy drizzle That fell on to the pavement with a sort of soggy *sizzle*. And then I heard another noise, above the falling rain. It was gone, just for an instant, but there it was again. A soggy, sloshy steppy sound, like *Slip, slap slop* above the weathers constant *drip drip *. And there, running towards me in a kind of shambling jog Was a sweatband wearing, knapsack bearing, big muddy dog. "I really must be dreaming! This can't be real!" Thought I, But the dog, tail wagging, trotted past, and winked as he went by. "Hey wait!" I called. "You there! Yes, you, you crazy jogging doggy! What are you doing, running round the park, all cold and soggy?" The jogging dog slowed to a stop, and looked at me, and said, "I'm a happy loner, with no owner, jogging dog called Ted!" I gasped, for I just didn't know quite how a dog could talk. "I come here every night." Said Ted. "I like to come and walk Across the grass and through the trees, it really is good fun, But when I'm really happy, I cannot help but run." I looked again, and thought "This is quite shocking news!" I'm talking to a dog that's wearing Reebok training shoes! He saw me look, and shrugged. "I know, they're really pricy trainers. A hundred pounds is quite a lot to pay for paw containers. But what's a dog to do? My feet get sore if they get wet, And I really can't afford to take myself to see a vet!" I hadn't thought of this. I kindly offered him my brolly. He looked at me. "Hey, can't you see that offer is just folly? I have four paws, I have no hands! I have no way to hold it! And when I get back home, pray tell, just how am I to fold it? I'm a soggy, joggy, talking doggy." He said, then gave a frown. "If I try to carry that I'll look more like a clown!" I asked "How do you dry yourself?" This was a big mistake. He walked up even closer, then gave a mighty shake. It started at his nose, and moved in ripples down his back Until it reached his tail. I really wish I'd worn a mac. And now his fur stood out in tufts. "ah, now I feel much better!" Well, that made one of us, because of course I was much wetter. "I must be going!" I said, because I really felt quite soggy. Besides, I felt uncomfortable talking to a doggy. I wished him well, well, who could tell if we would meet again. Would I see him once again, jogging in the rain? "Okay, my friend! Take care, be good!" the doggy said. Then off he ran, my soggy joggy doggy friend, called Ted. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i cant tell you how good it felt when i saw martin walking towards me with ted on a lead and HUGE grin on his face. as soon as ted saw me, he pounced on me, crying and smothering me with kisses. such a different reaction to a couple of days ago when he was running AWAY from me. after he'd had all his hugs he started jumping up at the van for marc to let him in. we knew then he had had enough and just wanted to go home. feeling both emotional and exhausted at the minute.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After owning a beautiful rescue collie for 11 years until we lost him to cancer in 2006, despite been nervous & timid they can be stubborn sods & will give up when he's good and ready. At least he has been seen- everyone knows him & the area he's in. He will come home & then act like nothing 's wrong. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Assuming he was around or spotted, would Ted be interested in another dog playing with a plastic bottle? Just a thought because my Quirky loves plastic bottles I just wondered if it would help if I brought her over to the area tomorrow afternoon. UPDATE on today?s events: Lots more sightings by the public and Trena but Ted is still not ready to throw in the towel. He?s definitely running his ?triangle?, Kenilworth/Baginton/University and after tracking him for most of the day they also now have a good idea of even the fields and tracks he?s using. Unfortunately the two DW?s were unable to help today when Trena had him in her sight but she now Martin onboard who has been to look at the area today and the BBQ?s and trap are planned to go up tomorrow. just back from baginton where we have scented and put food again. we sat in the car, had something to eat and drank coffee just hoping for a glimpse but nothing. although today was uneventful re sightings i am feeling much more positive than i was yesterday, and after seeing ted last night and how well he looked my mind is less troubled. spent alot of this afternoon and tonight talking with locals, another confirmed seeing him in the area the night before last too, so he's lingering around which is a plus. lady next door to the fort is going to try and lure him in with food if she sees him. i have sent an email to ray dedicoat to ask if he can help and airport security are looking too. spoke to the warden re setting a trap, theirs is broken so asking manger if they can buy a new 1. ive just collected another 150 posters which have been printed for me so tomorrow i will be posting like a loony again. think i have worked out the route hes taking between the uni and baginton , they gonna be sick of seeing me there before long. well im off to get a sleep, in preparation for a busy day tomorrow. hi all, just returned from the area where ted was seen last night.theres be no sign of him since then. a bunch of us have been postering like mad, door knocking and handing out flyers. also managed to get a council worker to let us into the site for a good look around, rather than like last night, climbing fences and facing up to bulls. (poor daughter thought her life was ending). anyway we have scented the area again, laid out his blanket and made sure he has plenty of food. hopefully he will reappear tonight. thanks to all for support and suggestions, im feeling more positive today that ted will soon be home, albeit AFTER he has led us a merry dance i think.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ted's owner, Our beloved pets do not behave or react in the way we think they will when they have been living wild for a while - read Rambo reunited and the ordeal the owner had to go through. I am sure you have done so already but, if not, contact headquarters for some advice on approaching Ted. Good luck!xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just to update you. we had a call from polly at petsearch last night, a member of the public reported seeing ted in the lunt fort at baginton. we dashed up there and sure enough, there he was, standing by a building inside. sadly when he saw us, he either didnt recognise us or he was just too traumatised, but he scarpered. we stayed around for hours to see if he reappeared but he didnt. we scented the area, put some food and his blanket there in the hope he will return. i put up a poster in a nearby bus stop too (it was the only one i had left ). i have emailed the dog warden to ask if we can trap the area too. not the result i had hoped for, but peace of mind that he is still ok. he looked remarkably well considering how long hes been out in the rain etc. im astounded at the distance this fella has covered too, hes sure making the most of this adventure. its in postcode area CV8Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is good news. If they can go back to same area & put down food & scent it he should in theory go back. It will not be easy as automatic reaction is to call your dog & try catch him but do the opposite. Dont look, sit down if possible & wait til he comes to you. Can you get car anywhere near where you saw him?? Stay positive ,it's good that you've seen him & fingers crossed that he's home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Trena. Great that you have people willing to help handing out small flyers, they should be ready soon and someone will post on here when they are ready to download. Have just emailed you the Coventry link that we spoke about. My internet is really playing up tonight so let me know if you don't receive it. Show yourself Ted so that we know where you are honey XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is there anyone in the area with a bitch in season who could scent the woods with the bitches urine? Although Ted is castrated he may well be lured by a hot bitch. If you can help with this please contact Trena directly so that you can discuss which part of the wood to scent as it is a big area. Thanks SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sometimes things don?t work the first time Trena. I?ve done the car thing myself in the past, night after night with a big flask of coffee the radio on and some nice smelly food around. If he?s in the woods he might have several dens there. You could pick an area you consider the safest (farthest away from the roads) to scent and put his blankets etc to try to lure him there. Does Ted have any doggie friends who could walk the woods and maybe flush him out? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

ted doesnt really play with toys, he likes to fetch when we are out but he tends to go for small plastic drinks bottles that are left about. he loves to sink his teeth into it, squash it flat then have it thrown like a frizbee. we've tried the car thing, cos he usually recognises the sound of the engine when 1 of us comes home. the problem with the woods is not knowing where to scent and leave things. its such a vast area. im just worried now if he takes a wrong turn hes going to end up on the busy A46. already had reports of him walking down the busy rd in cov city centre stopping all the traffic. oh and guess what... the police were there too. shame they didnt think to notify dog warden or maybe ted would be home by now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If he's still nervous after been spooked by fireworks he will try stay out of the way. I know how worried you will be but follow the scenting info & put food down. He should return to area he's been seen in as he does not fear them. My collie was a nervous wreck and would run to the darkness smallest cover not necessarily run far away. They are very resourceful & while ever we have rubbish outside he will find things to eat, the weather hasn't turned too cold yet & he will probably be holed up. I dont know if he has a favorite squeaky toy, did he like going in the car. The other thing you could try is to park the car as near as poss to where he was last seen & sit with boot/back door wherever he used to go open & engine running .If he's toy orientated, take it with you & squeak it. He does seem to be staying in an area which is good news.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry no results today Trena. Are the woods by the Uni or has he moved on a bit? The weather might have caused him to find a place with some good shelter. Don?t loose heart, even when you know a dog is definitely in an area it can take some time to catch them. Keep scenting, leaving familiar articles and food. If he?s got a good food supply there he?s less likely to move on. SueLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got in and checking on Ted. You're getting lots of sightings Trena which is good. Make sure every area he's sighted is well postered. Just seen him on the Uni web site. Have you checked with Security that Estates are also aware he might be on campus? If not it might be an idea to contact them directly. The Estates department covers the cleaners who will start work very early in the morning when he may be around looking for food. Their direct link if you need it is http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/estates/contact/ Come on Ted mate, give yourself up!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This boy is called Ted and he escaped from an area that he's not familiar with so is scared right now but normally a friendly dog. He was last sighted at midnight on Friday. The University security staff are being very helpful and hopefully Ted will stay around there. Owner, have sent you the information that we spoke about including the scenting instructions.
