Bobbie is really tied up with all the people she wants to thank & has asked me to post up what happened. Firstly she would like to thank ,once again ,everyone on here for without this site Picalo would still be lost. As you can see we had been staking Pinner out as well as putting posters up. The sightings started to become all around a certain road & so on Sunday Bobbie & I posted the "Missing" flyer through doors in this road. As we were doing this 2 or 3 people came out & told us that they had seen him .One of which was Ann who gave us some brilliant information on Picalo's nightly jaunts as well as being more than happy for things to be set up,traps etc,in her driveway. Bobbie had met Martin the day before & he was able to come on Monday evening to set up the cage /trap. Monday approx 8pm-Funny thing was ,Picalo turned up before everything was ready but luckily returned again 10 mins later by which time Martin was sitting in his car ready with his remote. Picalo checked out all the food that had been put around the outside of the trap,Bobbie & Ann were watching from Ann's front room, holding their breath. Then little Picalo decided to investigate the food inside the cage. Immediatly cage door triggered by Martin,Picalo caught & barking but safe. Martin then put a blanket over the cage so that Picalo would calm down. Half an hour later Picalo was on his way home. He has put on 2kg !! Jamie Oliver would be appalled ,I think he has lived on Burgers & KFC ! Anyway as you can imagine Bobbie just can't believe he's back & apart from a bit of a sore paw is none the worse for his time in the wilds of Pinner! Sorry about the long post but Bobbie & I wanted to let you know how it was in the hopes that it might help all those other lost dogs. Steph x.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I want to thank everyone at dog lost for their help and support through 6 very long weeks, and of course Jane who has talked me through when i felt thing s were not happening but time and patience are needed in cases like this, also my dear friend Steph and also Vera who were there when needed at low times.Picalo has now been home for nearly 24 hrs and it,s just like he has never been away, he jumped straight on my lap as soon as he got home last night.I took him to his vet today for a full mot and he passed how do these little animals survive it all out there.Once again all the thanks in the world to Martin, what a great guy he is .Well once again thanks everyone Love Bobbie and PicaloLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for all your messages & for the wonderful support. I saw Bobbie & the very content Picalo this afternoon. So good to be able to actually give him a squidge rather than just watch him through my car window wandering about the streets of Pinner !! Anyway, Bobbie is going to post soon with all the details. I wasn't actually there for the final episode but I know that Martin ,who I didn't meet, is an absolute hero ! Thank you Martin. You are all just brilliant & I know that this little guy would still be out there ,lost if it wasn't for this site. Can't say thank you enough. XXXXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Ian, if you can locate a fox trap locally that is excellent but if you can't, don't worry as we have one offered in Surrey. It's possible that the people whose garden he goes into might be able eventually to lure him into the house. I'm thinking of how Yiftaki was caught.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Ian .It's so helpful to have advice from those who know how to go about this. Picalo has been seen again this evening. I am going to meet Bobbie tomorrow at the alleyway he ran down this evening so that we can start to put down food regularly as well as scent in the hopes that we can get a routine going to eventually catch him.Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
MORIARTY (IanWest)
Hi there have a go at asking the local farmers or game keepers if they have a fox trap these are a smaller version of a dog trap and they are triggered slightly differently, but they would be effective in catching a smaller lighter weight dog, like picalo!! Teddys mum told me about the string / thread here and i will ask the sources i know if there is a fox trap available.... IAN Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Owl. I've phoned Harrow Council again & they don't have any cages only the "loop on a pole " device to catch stray dogs but they were helpful in giving me some numbers to try.I have just spoken to teddys mum & got some more brilliant advice on what to do here. As you said Owl & teddys mum, it's has to be the patient , gaining trust approach to this.Picalo's owner & I are in touch daily so I will pass this on.We need to keep him in the area & then see about traps I think. So good to have you all on board with this .Thank you. Steph.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Aunt Stef, ask your local dog wardens if they have a trap they can lend you. Meanwhile I will alert the rest of the DL team to your request. If the DWs don't have one I am sure we can help you to get hold of one, but do try them first. Shouldn't be too difficult finding one for this little fella as all you need is a fox trap.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Auntie bobbie, if people try to chase Picalo he will be frightend and just run away. Put food into this garden twice a day at exactly the same time. Ask the residents not to chase him. If they are able to lie down beneath his level, he may well approach them and they can offer a titbit of food and gain his trust. Meanwhile, regular food put down and then blow a whistle (a silent one) will train him to come at that time. It may take a few days but he will keep coming. If a trap is put down it has got to be done properly and safely. I will pm you my telephone numbers. Please feel free to call me...judyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to Picalo's mum this evening. Scent & food being put down regularly as well as patrols! Posters are working. Someone who lives in West End Lane spotted Picalo shooting down West End Lane on Saturday morning at about 11am & phoned Picalo's mum. Another possible sighting in Pinner Hill but that was over a week ago before the sightings near the park on Tues 8th. Come on Picalo. XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Aunt Steph, Owner needs to put the food in the same place ( somewhere quiet ) at the same time twice daily. Then wait and watch, if able. If a pattern is formed the dog will home in regularly knowing there is a meal waiting for him. Are we still looking around the memorial park area?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to Picalo's mum who is hoping to be able to post up here by the weekend. She has been watching the area , putting down food & left scented socks. The food ,when checked 3 to 4 hours later has been eaten but wether it's Picalo or not who knows. When Picalo has been sighted he looks absolutely terrified & runs off. Owner is hopefully keeping him in the area with food /scent etc but can anyone help/advise as to how's best to lure him in the hopes of catching him? Local dog warden was down there today but didn't see him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Pilchards would be good.I put a few handfuls of dog biscuits under bushes in the park last night just in case , I saw two foxes in that time but it's worth trying & just hoping that Picalo gets to the food. Out this long he must be sourcing food somewhere. The park also runs along the back of a few takeaways & a pub in Pinner.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a depot of some kind behind the cottages at the start of Cuckoo Hill opposite the Starling pub, Is there food around there I wonder! I will have another look around tomorrow. Is it time to put some nice smelly Pilchards down to attract him in and keep him in this area?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner.Picalo was seen crossing West End Lane & going into Pinner Memorial Park at about 7pm. I have just come from there , looked around edge of park & nearby roads with my dogs in the hopes that they might attract Picalo who is very nervous.Owner was down there earlier calling. Nothing as yet. Will poster that area more extensively tomorrow. The park is opposite West Lodge School .Picalo was seen in the nearby area of Cuckoo Hill as well so he seems to be sticking to one place so far. Time to come home now Picalo. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
