Am so pleased to hear that Pippin has settled back to her old life so well and that you are all having a happy time together. It's always lovely to have an update from owners after a happy reunion. Any news from police (if involved?) regarding Goudhurst connection? (Please don't post on here - pm or email). love PatsyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

In case anyone's wondering how Pippin is settling back ... she seems exactly her old self which is great, a little wary of tall men... but who knows what she went through. she's no longer a fussy eater that's for sure! Pippin now has a smart new tag and a big bright tally saying "ID chipped". I had alamost forgotten just how adorable she is, so we're making up for all those lost weeks. Please everyone, when you make requests to your vets please ensure you ask them to check for tattoos as well as microchips, remember there are tattooed dogs that are missing too. Sign Dolly's Directive at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/dollysdirective Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You're so right Fly, I've just typed a plea to our vets to routinely scan newly registered animals and will be emailing it to as many vets as I possibly can tomorrow, if anyone wants a copy just pm me with your email addy, its nothing special, just a plea from us pet owners, I know we have Dollys Directive but every little bit helps.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What fantastic news.........and gives hope to everyone waiting for their dear dogd to come home, another miracle. And even if the 'new owner' acquired Pippin the way they did, it was all part of the journey back home. Thank goodness too that the vet scans always, it is a necessity. We all need to encourage our vets to do the same and we'll be having more in the blue. Welcome home Pippin, forget the last few weeks and enjoy all the cuddles.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does anyone know anything about how Pippin was bought ? Was this van at a boot sale ? just in a car park or a market ? A van full of dogs, being sold off ! Good grief ! The 'usual suspects' ? Don't know the area myself but I know it's Kent and Digby was found in Kent as well. As Amanda has already pointed out so many 'missings' from this area could well have found their way to Kent. Can helpers there 'blitz' all local vets with a special request to scan all dogs that come in now and, if possible, have appeared over the past year. Be great if vet nurses could find the time to have a look thru' Dl pages to check on any dogs they may have registered in the past year that maybe they might be a bit dubious about how they were obtained. Is all that too much to ask ? So pleased you are home Pippin, that Aga sounds lovely, though I wouldn't like to attempt to cook on it. Great for dogs to snooze in front of.xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Pippin, Digby, Chief, Doughnut, Brock - all terriers, plus Zara a small spaniel all stolen from a small area within the last 8 months. Probably a connection. If you plot them on a map there is a definite pattern I think. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

....I had understood that the man bought Pippin and was told at the time what her name was and he kept the name. MUST have been sold by locals from around here where she went missing. I have my suspects!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have had great pleasure in taking down my first posters today! Have done A24 dual carriageway Dorking to Capel roundabout, all Beare Green, all South Holmwood, including posters put up by Jane, all I put up in Newdigate and Leigh and Brelades vets. Will do North Holmwood village and Common this pm plus Atlees. Couldnt resist writing 'FOUND' on one at bottom of Coldharbour Lane and leaving it for all to see! Will remove it in a couple of days unless someone gets there before me.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh what a heart warming story. I Take my hat off to the vet who scans all dogs. The new "owner" either follows doglost or had seen posters of Pippin, to have named him the same, either way they must have known owners were looking for him. So to those people if you are reading this, go to the many rescues and choose your own dog and dont steal someone elses. Welcome home Pippin, how lovely to be able to sleep in front of an AGA!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bumped to the top incase anyone missed this last night. The man who bought the dog bought it out of the back of a vehicle in Goudhurst near Tunbridge Wells-there were other dogs for sale as well-trying to get more info and maybe we should be concentrating on this area for some of the other missing dogs from RH area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've already postered once to say how thrilled I am, when you wake up in the morning you probably will think that you have had a dream. As this is local to me I have seen Eve's poster up at the dog training that I use and read her postings tonight, she never gave up possibly when you have the same breed it comes closer to your heart. Good night Pippin, don't get too hot in front of that AGA, I've turned my down as they are so hot, but she deserves it, just don't get any scorch marks!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is the BEST news I have had for a long time and I am in tears! Many a time when Griff and I have been up on Leith Hill looking for Pippin I could understand how Jane must have felt it was a hopeless task. The vast acres of woodland and the desolation of the place in the mist only to be inspired on a sunny day to keep going will always be with me. I shall now be able to enjoy walks up there and perhaps one day Griff will meet Pippin as I would always tell him we were off to look for her! I always finish my daily look at DogLost by looking at all the 'in the blues' to encourage me that we should never give up on any dog. This is a really brilliant outcome for Pippin, Jane and her family and a real salute to the power of DogLost! Thank you to the Vet. Tomorrow I will be out happily de-postering! I am thrilled!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

From Jane Pippin's owner - The happiest sight in the world has to be Pippin sleeping in front of the aga (albeit in the cat's basket - whoops!). at the vets's where the heroic nurse was there at 8 0'clock, Pippin came straight to me and did her usual snuggle on your shoulder almost as if ten weeks was no time at all. My little daughter is over the moon and all my boys are phoning and thrilled. Ironically i took DOWN three posters in our lane today, deciding I could torture myself no longer, so what a thrill and a half to get Jane's phone call! Thanks SO much to all the helpers specially Patsy and Eve, never giving up. You can be sure My donation will be in very shortly. Three woofs from Pippin for Doglost.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner still does not know-vets and I keep ringing but no answer-I guess when Elizabeth leaves work she will switch on her messages and those in the area will probably hear a massive scream of delight. Luckily the vets in question scan EVERY dog that comes through their doors-The new owner who says he bought her also calls her Pippin. Vets are keeping hold of the dog and vet nurse has volunteered to open up surgery out of hours to re unite them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Xena's Mum says no-one could fail to know about Pippin being lost BUT... village resident rang me yesterday to say he was fairly sure he saw Pippin on MONDAY by his workshop, just off BroomeHall lane, but he didn't know she was lost!!!! (therefore didn't tell anyone - groan) I went to the spot yesterday looking for tracks or poo ...didn't find anything. Hard to know whether to take this sighting seriously. All quiet there today. Such a lot of wood...such a small dog. JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Saw all your posters from Dorking to Leith Hill today, no one could fail to know about Pippin being lost! Such an acreage of woodland and scrub for him to rummage around in - bet he really is not far from home. Just as an aside if anyone comes across any Yiftaki posters in this area will you please take them down, I found one on my way home. Thanks everyone and Amanda for the useful infomation for Pippins owner. Never rule anything out, sometimes the silliest lead can bring the dog home, I'm sure Amanda can vouch for that? One thing to mention, if you hand out flyers, please be vigilant and if the person then throws it on the floor pick it up. We have had reminders of late where leaflets have been left on cars and thrown to the ground, obviously leaving an unsightly mess with Doglosts name all over it. Many thanks and do hope we hear something soon for Pippin. Sue xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a border terrier living in the Newdigate area called Toffee who is regularly running around the area loose, and often very dirty. If you get calls for this area it could easily be him.......Also one in Godalming called Hamish....I wasted a lot of time and posters when looking for Digby because of these dogs!!! I have highlighted this because of the call about a dog in Leigh. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does Lorraine the Reigate & Redhill DW have info on Pippin - if not I can a poster in to her tomorrow. Also there is a Natural history Walk up to and around Leith Hill Tower on Sunday 27th starting at 1:30 from Stavell's corner car park, if Pippin is still missing it might be a good idea to be there to hand out flyers to the walkers who are encouraged to have binoculars with them. Seems a little bit odd that she has moved off Leith Hill after being around there so long, as it seemed she possibly knew she was near home. She would have had to cross the A24 dual carriageway or use the underpass. Bunce Common Road in a straight line though is not that far. I have already postered the car parks on the Blackbrook Rd side of Holmwood Common and will do some in Henfold Lane in the morning when I go to my horse. I will walk on Leith Hill again in the afternoon though as I would not give up there. What do others with more experience of lost dogs think?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just managed to speak to sister apparently there is a fourth lady who helps at the Tower now. She actually lives in Coldharbour so presumably knows about Pippin. My niece is there today and will make every endeavour to lure her in if she sees her. They close at 3.30 this afternoon, by which time it is getting pretty dusky. Possibly no need to leave it as late as 5 to light a bbq ? I hope there is a poster at the Tower now so that they will have a number to phone if they see her. Unfortunately the lady who actually runs the catering franchise there is not a dog lover so it may be necessary to put the poster on the message board just below the Tower. The ranger is very dog friendly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My sister works at the little cafe in the tower if she's not there her daughter is and will be tomorrow I think. They both knew about Pippin There is only one other lady sometimes there and I'm sure my sister told her as well when Pippin first went missing. So I'm quite peeved that whoever it was didn't realise that this was the missing dog we are all looking for ! Just tried to phone sister to clarify but she isn't in. Spoke to her yesterday morning though (as I noted) and neither she nor daughter had seen anything and she was sure the other helper at the Tower would have told her if she had ! Went for a long walk all over Leith Hill today. No sign. Spoke to the lady who thought she saw Pippin the other day and she sounded quite sure. She works at the tiny cafe in the tower. I can't because I have a little boy etc, but could anyone go up to the tower at around 5.30pm in the evenings, that was the time she thought she saw the dog. I suppose if a dog goes feral maybe it comes out at dusk like other "wild" animals. If it was my dog I might be tempted to camp up there one night! What about putting out food there in the evening and doing that trick with dry plaster to monitor footprints....???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just been talking to my sister, she wasn't working at the Tower on Sunday 6th but her daughter was (who knows about Pippin) and saw and heard nothing about a loose dog being spotted or she would have let me know. Sister says she hasn't seen any posters around there although it's not far from Coldharbour. Washed away ? She doesn't unfortunately have a printer and I can't get there at the moment so maybe owners could make sure there are posters at the Tower . She is seeing the other Tower person this afternoon and will remind her, also the ranger. Sounds as if Pippin is getting very near home .....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MESSAGE FROM PIPPIN'S OWNER TODAY:I checked out the Leith Hill sighting early this morning 0830. Lots of swirling mist but no dogs. Left poster at Windy gap car Park. will do Starveall car park tomorrow (or did you do this one Patsy?). Will also so Landslip car Park - all tricky cos the road is closed. A friend from Westcott rang to confirm that she was one of the party trying to round up a small dog on Sun 6th. she got within 10 feet of this very nervous dog and was almost certain it was the same Pippin on the poster. she was also pretty sure that the blue collar was still on which IS exciting because Gill Mills reported hearing a "jangling" noise when she saw the dog by Leith Hill Tower. Perhaps this was the two washers I had put on P's collar to hear her in the garden at night. All suggests that Pippin is still on the hill, albeit now very timid. Let's hope so as lots of people walk that way. Jane Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry the found dog was not Pippin, so disappointing! I wonder if this dog could be one of our other missing ones? Perhaps a Lakeland cross or Border cross. Do we have a description of it by any chance?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have today put posters up on northbound side of A24, including Beare Green shopping precinct, South Holmwood, bus shelters and other suitable telegraph posts on A24. Also Fouwents Pond carpark. Gave a poster to my dog training club in Pixham Lane as lots of people go there throughout the week. Will try tomorrow to do upper end of A24 dual carriageway and pet shops in Dorking.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been ill so havent been able to help before but am willing now. Coincidentally, I have a Border Terrier (male) and have been asked 3 times yesterday when on the Nower whether he is Pippin as from the poster he looks similar colour. This pm we walked up Bury Hill Fisheries, Mad Horse Copse onto Logmore Lane, along to Chadhurst Farm and down Coldharbour lane, where we were scrutinised by passing cars . . . .". Welcome to DogLost, Eve, and do get in touch with Pippin's owner so that you can co-ordinate your postering together. thankyou. Px ?ReplyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MESSAGE TODAY FROM OWNER: FOund a few more snaps of Pippin in case anyone wants to check colouring etc. Maybe it would help to put up on the site? I don't know. today I walked a long way into Redlands wood below the reservoir, shaking the food tin. It goes on forever and its very desolate - nothing seen. On returning to the car I met Jim Storrar , Surrey Wildlife Ranger and asked him to keep a watch. He had a party of beaters with him ,so the net widens. When he said "she's probably someone else's best friend after all this time" I nearly cried. I have another 20 laminated posters and will try to put them up at the Westcott church area leading to logmore lane where dog walkers seem to go. That's all. Jane Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MESSAGE FROM OWNER: Please post this onto the DL site yesterday (Tues) all enquiries and hunting revealed nothing. With my flatcoat retriever I explored the derelict Westlees Farm site - lots of nice dry places for a dog to hide away in but nothing. walked in Redlands wood, a large circle round Robin Gate both sides of the road. People are starting to sow seeds of doubt about that agonising moment when my son and I saw Pippin in the rainy headlights, but I'm still sure it was her. Posted many more posters between Coldharbour and Robin Gate. Thank you Patsy and Amanda for all the help and advice. JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Did a bit more postering for Pippin this afternoon as follows: Wolvens Country Store (horse & dog food place at Wotton), the Wotton end of Wolvens Lane that leads back to Coldharbour, village notice board and Stephan Langton pub a Friday Street, farmyard entrance to Manor Farm at Wotton House (staff, estate workers and tenants always v. helpful in helping us search for missing dogs in the past). Went down to Broadmoor - Pippin's owner had already postered Sheila Morgan's stables and village notice board. A girl I spoke to in Wolven's Country Store keeps her horses at Logmore Lane and had heard about a terrier running off from a shoot on Sunday and is keeping a look-out. Drove home over Coldharbour - lots of owner's laminated posters up. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Jan. Have just been speaking to owner, Jane, on the phone. Coldharbour have a Community Village Website, so all locals have been kept updated on Pippin's story by email. Jane went out again late night to Logmore Lane area and explored around Westlees Farm. (Her other dog barked excitedly, which apparently is unusual, but this could just be at the foxes). Locals have been very helpful - a feeding station and trap are being set up between area of sighting and home (this will be monitored constantly by knowledgeable local friend with experience of traps). Scenting advice has been given by DL and by local vet. Mole Valley dogwarden is aware. Jane will take her other dog later today for walk at Redlands Wood (area of last sighting bordering Coldhabour Lane and stretching right down towards Holmwood/Ockley direction). Jane has postered the length of Coldharbour Lane from Dorking Town end up to the village. Will try to get up there this afternoon myself. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Drove around the area for some time yesterday, Logmore Lane difficult single track to stop and poster isn't it. Did a few near post boxes Patsy, seemed one of the few safe places to stop. Intended driving back along the lane and putting up more posters but, as usual with me got hopelessly lost. However just put posters wherever I was. Re e mailed poster and update of sighting to my sister and friends in the area. Will try and get out again today. Has the local paper given this any coverage ? Most of these villages have their own village mags. can owners get Pippin featured in some of them ? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for update Jane (Pippin's owner). Postered this afternoon for Pippin as follows: Milton Heath/The Nower car parks, Bury Hill Fisheries (gave poster to water bailiff to put up in office/shop by fishing lake), gave poster to tree surgeons working in woods near Old Bury Hill House, postered Milton Street and surrounding footpaths. Drove around Logmore Lane area (posters I put up all along Logmore Lane before Christmas had been removed, but saw Jan S's new one on postbox and owner's laminated poster outside Squires Farm). Visited Squires Farm and spoke to man working there who promised to keep a look out (owner had already done so earlier it turns out) and Collet Moor Farm (again, spoke to people who put up posters in livery yard and also workshops). It seems the rough shoot was at Westlees Farm. Postered down towards Logmore Green and outside Logmore Green Farm. Last poster went up on villlage notice board behind Wotton Hatch pub. Ran out of posters and daylight, so never got to Sheila Morgan's yard at Broadmoor. Will call her/take poster tomorrow. Spoke to owners who are putting up 30 more laminated posters this evening. Jane (Pippin's owner) DO poster as much as you can and as quickly as you can . . . . CALL ME IF YOU GET SIGHTING AND NEED HELP. I'll email you my home number . Let's hope Pippin is on her way home. Keep safe Pippin. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear doglost NEWS ON PIPPIN!! i actually saw her last night 9.30 p.m. sunday running in coldharbour Lane after a tip off from a hiker who read a poster. Sadly she bolted into the trees as soon as my son got out of the car. I've been back today with food ,but so far nothing. However she is alive and free from her gypsy captors. (It seems she bolted during a rough shoot and tehy gave up trying to recapture her. Please pass on to anyone in the Coldharbour area to be extra vigilant. report any sightings to 01306 711946 or07890056948 thanks Jane (owner) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As a long time Border owner I would say most Borders are very curious and food orientated. If anyone can get within sight of this little girl have a bag of treats which you can take out of your pocket, an excited "OH look, treats!" and a shake of the bag will usually work, turn round and walk away ping one or two and curiosity usually makes them followLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Admin for amending poster. Just come back from walk at Coldharbour. Posters up in village by pub, but many more needed. We postered along Wolvens Lane, up by Cricket pitch, Logmore Lane area and surrounding farms. Gave posters to mountain bikers and to Dillondog to take to sister in Brockham.
