I can not thank you all enough for all your help and support through these very difficult last 5 days. I am over joyed to say we have found Ruby hiding under a bush at the top of Butts brow. The support we have received from everyone has been fantastic, thank you all so much. We are one VERY happy family tonight. Other than a little irritation under her belly she is in perfect health, a little under weight and very tired but enjoying all of her cuddles tonight. Dog lost supporters have been fabulous, especially clarkey and the rest of the supporters! A fabulous end, we are over joyed. We will certainly return the favour to other owners needing help.

REUNITED! So relieved and happy for Taramartin who I've just spoken to. They are just taking Ruby to the vets to have her checked over. Ruby was hiding in the bushes up at Butts Brow & several dog walkers had walked past her without spotting her. Luckily they spotted Ruby & although she was wary they managed to get her out of the undergrowth. She seems to be ok, quite clean & hopefully will get a clean bill of health from the vet.
Goes to show how resilient dogs are! Well done & many thanks to all who have helped search & poster during this very difficult week for Tara & her family.

Please may I ask you all to take down any posters that you see .. that's the best job of all!
Welcome home Ruby! :)

We are currently waiting for k9 trackers to come back to us to see if they have anyone in the area. We are going back up to butts brow area today and check checking any holes. Thank you all for your help.

As it is a vast area of countryside.... It might be a good idea to fly a drone over the area to look from above to see if you can spot her wandering around x

We have been out again all afternoon/evening searching the surrounding area Ruby went missing, we've been focusing on any badger/rabbit holes but as yet nothing at all to report. X

I've added return for safe return to the details that will show on the poster.
Hopefully Ruby will be home soon but if not there are 2 dog shows over the weekend so would be good to get lots of posters given out there. If you contact the organisors they would probably be happy to help. Saturday at Cuckoo Shack, Priory Court Farm, Polegate & the other on Sunday in Martin's Fields, Hampden Park. Taramartin & KCWW: Thanks for your updates & info about where posters are now.
I've just tried the link choowie74 put on here & it's the post by KCWW on the day Ruby was lost.
A miserable day to be out searching & postering & unfortunately it's likely that if Ruby is behaving like most lost dogs that she will be holed up out of the rain. I'd really hoped that a sighting would have come in by now but maybe she's keeping out of everyone's way after her fright on Sunday.
The Eastbourne Dog Wardens (both of them) are aware of Ruby & hopefully other DW's in adjoining areas. Important to inform those as well because if someone who was visiting the area on Sunday had found her they may have taken her home to their area & then reported finding her to their local DW's (which is required by law)
Keeping everything crossed that a sighting comes in soon or that Ruby will find her way to her home, Tara's mum's home or KCWW's house. Please check around the gardens of these homes in the mornings in case Ruby comes back in the early hours (often when lost dogs move around as all quiet those times)
Stay strong Taramartin, you are doing all the right things to find your girlie.
Taramartin
Choowie74, I can't seem to open your link. Please can you let me know what it was for? Thanks

We've also been putting more posters up around the willingdon village area, Hampden park, and surrounding areas today. I've also spoken to willingdon golf club who have had their greens keeper on the look out! Everyone so far has been very supportive and we really do appreciate it.
KCWW
There are laminated posters at all entrances to the Down for that particular walk, also at Butts Brow, the YHA hostel, entrance by the Eastbourne golf course at the top of the hill, Old Town rec, Cherry Orchard Road Downs entrance and Butchers Hole. The walk started at Den Hill and there are posters along the path where we walked her. Nearest entrance point to where she was lost is Hill Road. There is a poster pinned to a tree using blue pins at the actual point she was lost which is close to the green slime covered pond, Hill Road side. Posters also up in various places around Eastbourne and will continue with that today. As there was one possible sighting in Willingdon where Taras Mum lives will be doing a flyer drop around the area. Any offers of help appreciated. Lynne Spencer of Give a Dog a Home has kindly put out a call for a search party Friday afternoon if Ruby is still missing - again any help appreciated. Please let's get this little dog home.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Thanks for the update & the chat this morning Taramartin. It's always hard when a dog has been missing for a while but please be reassured that you are doing everything right. The main thing is not to give up & to get as many posters out as possible so that you can get those all important sightings come in. Get them up anywhere and everywhere people walk dogs. The community using Hampden Park are always very helpful and even if Ruby does not go there (I gather from you that Ruby knows the park) it means that they will all be aware that she's missing. Also some along the seafront where you have walked her as well as where lost & surrounding areas.
Let me have the link to the piece in the Eastbourne Herald so that I can bump this page for you. They are usually very helpful.
Let's hope those posters bring in a sighting or 2 today. That would be really useful even if not recent. Please make a note of name & number of anyone who calls if poss & ask where, when (time) & what direction Ruby was travelling in.

If anyone is able to help put posters up it would really be appreciated as we need them everywhere please! As we know, there can never be enough posters out there.
Stay positive Taramartin. and the very best of luck today. Come on Ruby, please show us where you are girlie ...
Taramartin
Ruby is still missing and we have had no sightings for her apart from one potential on Sunday night. I'm starting to really worried now and just want to find her. We have been out Day and night over the walk she went missing along with butts brow, and searching willingdon and Hampden park residential areas incase she made her way down from the downs.

Thanks genie44, I've just seen that dog has been returned to owner through microchip details.
I've had a chat with Tara (Ruby's owner) who has come home & is out searching at the moment. Her brother has also been looking with his dog as he's Ruby's friend so that's good. I gather there are some posters up in the area where Ruby was lost but other than a slightly vague sighting of a terrier heading away from the downs towards Willingdon village on the night Ruby was lost there have been no other sightings yet.
I have suggested to the lady who had been walking Ruby that there should be as many posters as possible all around where lost & have said to Tara to get help putting some along the route to her home which is in Langney Point.
It's possible that Ruby is back on the downs again but she could also try to make her way to Tara's mother's home in Willingdon village or to her own home in Langney.
So posters are going to be the best way to get sightings so we can find out where she is, bless her. Please poster entrances to footpaths, car parks etc on the downs as well as along routes to Willingdon village & Langney so everyone is aware that Ruby is missing. If you poster perhaps you'd comment on here so others do not waste time going to same areas. You need to be registered & logged in to comment on here (it's completely free to join Doglost!) Thanks.

POSTER POWER works so hopefully there will be a sighting reported soon. I'm sure Tara will update us with where she & her friends have searched & give us any other relevant info when she gets the chance.

Just returned from Butts Brow walked the tree line above the golf course toward Den Hill, no sightings the Archeologists up there seem to be aware she is missing. (I did hear one yap in the woods amongst the trees, to the left looking sea ward two groups of dead trees this was the left group, but it was not repeated and I could not access to investigate further ) It may however been a dog with owner I could not see. Fingers crossed she is found soon.Last edited: 2017-07-25 15:47:07 by egizzy

Sorry to see Ruby is missing. I understand that Ruby's owner was away but has now returned.
Taramartin: are you Ruby's owner please? If not would you confirm that the telephone number on here is the owners? Also there seems to be one number short on the 2nd telehone number so please would you amend it? Thanks!
I have sent out our Doglost advice emails to the address registered on this page so I would be grateful if you would forward this advice to anyone who is helping with the search for Ruby.
Please bear in mind that most dogs will return to the place where you lost them from or will make their own way home (if close enough/know the route) so please try leaving bedding/ unwashed clothing (socks/tshirts work well) in that area so that Ruby has some familiar scent to find and come back to. If you started off from a car park then Ruby may go back there so would be idea to leave scent items there too. Dogs will often hide in bushes or near to these places so please check any hidey holes nearby.
Best time to search is dusk and dawn (when it's going dark or when it's getting light) as it's all quiet then.
Please keep us updated with how your search is going. Best of luck.
