Stay close, little one. X

I was just so pleased to get a message when I was out that Lilly had been found that I almost dropped my drink! I was so worried about her out there especially as she still had her lead attached ... but as it happens it was her lead that got her found. I'm sure that she will be grounded for a while and I will ask Charlotte to put up the reunited pic she sent me ... she really is a lovely dog xLast edited: 2017-07-13 20:10:10 by Ravenette - Area Co-ordinator - West Sussex

Brilliant news x
Ratel
So relieved for her and you! Now her new life can begin properly.

Fantastic news & so lucky to be found. Well done. What a relief for owners, hope she soon gets back to normal bless her
PhilM
Just updating you all to let you know that Lilley was found this morning in a field by a farm worker who had seen our posters. Her lead had got caught round some sugar beet stems. We are so relieved to have her home! Though a bit skinny, she seems well and was collected from the vets. We are keeping her quiet for now, to try and settle her.

Thanks to you all of you for your support over the course of the last month!

We will remove all posters over the weekend.

I am bumping her to the top due to these 2 positive sightings.
Annie Judd
Phil... my friend who lives near and her husband has a business in Buriton says everyone knows about your dog missing ... is there ANYTHING else we can do to help you ? Are people leaving food and water out for her in strategic places ?
SO feel for you... Annie
PhilM
After a lull in sightings, we've had two reported sightings this morning in Buriton c.6am in Bones Lane (the pond end) - this is good news as it seems she is sticking around when we feared she may have moved on. Everyone we are in contact with in Buriton and the surrounding area has been informed. Relieved to have some hope.
DogLostRavenette - Area Co-ordinator - West Sussex
No news or further sightings I'm afraid ... and it's sightings that we desperately need now x
Annie Judd
Hi Phil

Is there any news ?

This girl is such a worry especially whilst still wearing a lead I hope someone can trap her soon .When was she last actually seen ?Last edited: 2017-06-29 18:31:26 by Hollieberry

I don't know which rescue Miss Alice, but I haven't heard any mention of them helping. Her foster was supposed to be bringing her spaniels and running them through the area, but was too ill last week. Fingers crossed it happens soon!
Lin Iddon
Ravenette can I ask which rescue when was from and have you had any help from them? I am currently dealing with a similar situation - spaniel, ex rescue, only in new home 3 weeks, she's been on the loose 4 weeks now!Last edited: 2017-06-27 18:47:50 by Lin Iddon

Dear Phil

Thank you so much for updating us all ... it doesn't sound like you can do more than you are ... I feel a right twit here just voicing ideas ... however I hope the Parish Council clerk idea was one from me that did help ... the postie is a good one too... the more aware eyes about the better ..thank goodness for the Buriton Pond to give her some drinking water
I agree totally re the humane trap ... if her history has lent her to be feral so fast then there is no way she is going to respond to a nice kind human calling her .. its food that will beckon most
I am only over in East Marden so if you need another bit of help in some way please post a message ... actions speak louder than words
Hollieberry
Fingers crossed that you will be able to get this lovely girl home safe & sound poor thing she must be so scared.
PhilM
Hi all,

Thank you for your messages of support.

Apologies I've not posted for a few days, please don't think that she is not being looked for. Far from it. We are still trying very hard to find her. We are strategically and thoroughly scouring woodland and fields all the time, over and over. There is a search party out every day, for much of the day. We have had two sightings, two nights in a row (Saturday and Sunday night), so we are confident that we are starting to see a pattern (places and times). We have put posters up in Buriton, and for miles of countryside around. The parish clerk has emailed the parishioners, the postman knows (and he is driving about in the parish), a lot of people are aware (please note that this is not an exhaustive list - just a few examples).

We won't be giving up on her, or resigning that 'someone else' will find her, we will keep searching and trying different tactics, whilst spreading the word.

Our ultimate aim at the moment (though this could change), is to trap her in a humane dog trap/cage, as it is highly, highly unlikely that we will be able to gain her trust. We are in touch with a rescue centre with regards to this. Whilst it won't be a pleasant experience for her, we are sure that she has gone quite wild/feral so it is the quickest way of getting her safe and caught.

She is going to a pond by the sounds of it, at least twice in the last two days, so at least we know that she has access to water. We will look to leave food here now too.

She still has her lead attached, she is not trapped anywhere thank goodness, though of course we are aware that this could happen at any time. In fact, how she hasn't got stuck to date is anyones guess - we've ripped a few t-shirts between us.

Disappointingly, the foster home have not yet come, but of course we will keep trying to arrange this.

I will report on sightings here, and any specific updates we may receive, to keep you up-to-date. We are in touch with the Area Coordinator for West Sussex (Ravenette) who has given great advice.

Thanks again for all your support.
Annie Judd
Hi everyone again
Is there any further action planned Phil ?
It is unthinkable after 8 days that this dog should still be loose unless she has got caught up in undergrowth .... any news re the fosterer and other dogs ... is a related search party planned ? Any info being put in Buriton village ?
DogLostRavenette - Area Co-ordinator - West Sussex
It was hoped that her fosterer was going to come and help and bring her spaniels that this dog knows. I am awaiting an update and will post as soon as I know more x
DogLostReynard
Poor Girl she will be terrified ,however as she was seen near a house (I agree with Annie judd ) she is seeking help , so that area would perhaps be a good place to walk another friendly Female Dog to draw her out?
As the lead is still attached please also search the bushes as unfortunatly its still possible she could get caught up.
Sorry if you know this already but frightened dogs do not respond to shouts, noise, eye contact & full body approach.(A Whistle maybe as perhaps was a gun dog , does she have a docked tail ? & perhaps leave game food for her , Pheasant , Rabbit ?)
Good luck xxxLast edited: 2017-06-25 21:25:52 by Reynard
Ratel
Thanks, Ravenette. Her original background is anyone's guess but clearly she has endured a particularly rough time.
Mary
Could you perhaps ask the lady whose door she was at to leave food and water for her and maybe some bedding in case she returns. She may be able to gain her trust over time. Last edited: 2017-06-25 20:16:15 by Mary

This dog was found and rescued in a car park in Crawley ... she may have been dumped or living wild for sometime. She then went to foster and had been with Phil for 48hrs before she escaped from the boot of the car after being bought back from a walk. I had a long chat with the owners friend Charlotte and it is believed that she is staying in the area ... as the recent sighting has proved x
Ratel
I agree, Annie, it would be useful to know more about the dog herself, for example whether she has always lived in a kennel environment, perhaps accustomed to a whistle and her rescue circumstances. This all helps to build a picture to save the frightened little creature.
Annie Judd
Annie here again
If she went to a house it must indicate she was looking for help ?
If you are still searching ... would the community of Buriton en masse be reachable via Parish Council and Pub and any Neighbourhood Watch Scheme co ordinator ? Just thinking of widening awareness ? I know an employer there ... are you thinking or raising a search party ?

Sorry if teaching Grannie to suck eggs .. just so concerned as she is an extra vulnerable and hard to catch case from what you have posted being a recent rescue
People would need to know her name IF you yourselves know it in order to call her in

PhilM
I have news! We have had a confirmed sighting in the nearest village to where she went missing - she was seen at Buriton Manor House, and when the lady opened her back door she ran away (fortunately the lady had seen our posters this morning so knew to call). Although it sounds like she's going to be difficult to get close to, we are really relieved to know that she is still in the area and that she seems ok. We also now know that her lead is still attached.

Hollieberry - she had been with us less than 48 hours when she escaped.

Thanks Annie Judd - it's nice to know you're thinking of us, it is appreciated.

Thanks SanP for your message about the dog towards Steyning - I had thought it could be a possibility until I received this call, as the dog we're looking for was rescued from a car park in Crawley and I had started to wonder if she may be trying to get back there. I have heard of dogs do this - but thankfully she's still local.

Ratel - we have considered a drone, but the crops and grass are so high we aren't sure if it would pick her up? Also, there's a lot of woodland here.

Feeling a bit more hopeful this evening. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Hollieberry
How long have you had her does she know the area enough to find her way home? You need to organise a search as she maybe caught up by her lead. I read recently of a Springer whose lead had just caught on the edge of a brick & the dog would not move .
Annie Judd
Hi... I have nothing helpful to contribute here ... I live some way away over in East Marden but just wanted to say how I am following this daily and praying you and your spaniel will soon be back together ... I wonder if someone has picked her up and is, in ignorance, looking after her
All power to you all .... please keep us posted and say if further help needed ... we can drive
SanP
Not sure if this is the right area....

Could a drone be employed?
Hollieberry
My Spaniel also goes quiet if stuck or locked in somewhere & he ignores my calling his name .I hope you find your lovely girl soon .
PhilM
Sorry! I also meant to say thanks also to onestopalldogs for sharing to FB and Twitter too.
PhilM
Thanks for your messages. No reported sightings since my last message.

Thanks Ratel - you are a star! We put lots of posters up in the woodland and in the surrounding villages last night, hopefully these will be seen and people will keep an eye out for her.

wizozmutts - that's a good idea to speak to Mark. I'm sure I met him a while back and I think I may be able to get his number from the local farm. I'm fairly sure the farmer knows him...

Thanks to Jot cotswolds for your message too, I have sent Jenny a message using her online form.

Fingers crossed we find her soon.
Jot cotswolds
Do consider the lead may have easily caught on something by now and she is stuck. Many spaniels stay silent when in trouble & will sit and wait..and wait.(mine does!). Try contacting Jenny with her tracker dog at k9tracker.co.uk to see if she is free to help...you really need a tracker now

Hi, I'm the other side of the valley from you (Ladyholt) I will keep an eye out for her when I go out with my pack. Have you contacted Mark Boulton, the gamekeeper on West Harting down? I am currently trying to find his number without much success.
Ratel
Consider it done, Phil.
PhilM
Thank you everyone for your messages and shares via social media.

Wizozmutts - I'm not sure exactly where you live, but this dog was lost from home on the Ditcham Park School road not far from Sunwood Farm. It was last seen in the woodland called 'The Miscombe' but as you will know all the woodlands around here feed into each other so she could be miles away by now. There are a few posters up locally, I am going out towards South Harting, Buriton, Finchdean in case she has travelled that way to put posters up. I will also walk around the various woodlands and along the South Downs Way to put posters on a few way markers.

Ratel just seen your message while typing - please feel free to put posters up in Harting Stores or Harting Down if you wouldn't mind - I would be super grateful! Thank you so so much. I can then concentrate on the other areas I've mentioned.

We have informed all of the local vets, the police, dog wardens and have contacted Network Rail too, just in case.

Thanks again for your messages!
