The steam fair and well meaning people trying to catch her has meant Alma moved on from Stotfold on Sunday night. She has moved south and the latest sightings are west of Bishop StortfordLast edited: 2017-05-09 16:34:59 by Crisp

Lots of sightings of Alma in Stotfold. If you see her PLEASE don't try to catch her or chase her. She is very, very scared of people and will need specialised catching. We would like to know her movements so please phone the given numbers. Thank you.

Lots of sightings of Alma in Baldock area. Latest sighting tonight in Stotfold near the Chequers Ph. She seems to be heading North East and I will hit the Villages/areas and try to get in front of her. She has lost her collar and is being seen out in the day and at night. Please keep the sightings coming in.

Sighting today near the railway line in Baldock, is there anyone local who could help with postering?
BaileyP
As one on here who was said to be being negative... I personally met up with the adopters yesterday and had a chat about Romanian street dogs and their habits!!! I also collected a pile of laminated posters which I have put up in Hare Sreet and Little and Great Hormead. There is a desperate need for hundreds more posters in the area. Today I drove through a couple of local villages and didn't see a single poster. They need to be everywhere so they can be seen on foot or in passing in a car. If there is anyone local who could help with postering it would be great. In the past, when I've helped look for lost dogs, the posters have brought in sightings which have eventually lead to a successful outcome. Alma is, apparently, a large sized (lurcher sized) dog so should be easier to spot than a smaller one. On saturday, there is a street market in Barkway only a few miles from where she escaped. Thousands attend and this would be an amazing opportunity to hand out flyers. If anyone can help by attending even for an hour I'm sure it would be appreciated. This is a fantastic chance to spread the word far and wide. Julie G - we have a trap ready but without any sightings it isn't any use. Unfortunately, as I said in my first post - this is a very rural area and there are so many places she can hide and huge distances a large dog can cover. Our only hope is to get all the inhabited places flooded with posters in the hope that she will be seen. Last edited: 2017-05-02 12:21:20 by BaileyP

Sorry to see you're getting negative comments Moggers. There are always some who judge unfortunately. Do your best to ignore them. When you search at night, using a flashlight or torch is good because even though the dogs may hide, the eyes reflect. You might also need a trapper. I'm keeping everything crossed for you and Alma x

We have been postering the local areas and giving out leaflets to local dogs walkers. Due to the footpath network around Anstey I have been out on a bicycle getting into the woodland area. We are getting a advert in the local paper and have contacted dog trackers with a view to helping us. We are also exploring drone use and anything which will help us. We have been out at night in the local area but without sightings it is difficult. As soon as we can get a sighting then we have a place to concentrate hence the use of flyers etc. She escaped from the garden when at home with a dog sitter. It is devastating and the judgements raised on forums is very difficult to read as the implication is that it was lack of care which led to her escape which is not the case. We will continue to explore all possibilities for as long as it takes as Alma is only focus.

Thanks for the advice. Funnily enough, we are aware of just about everything that has been said. My questions now relate to practical advice.... and support as opposed to judgemental questions....why not in a lead? Not very helpful...

I live very near to the village where Alma was lost. I have 8 Romanian dogs myself and know that they are incredible survivors but also very difficult to catch once they are free. The area is very rural with large areas of woodland where she could hide out and find plentiful food - rabbits/mice/ voles etc and water. It is highly unlikely that she will be seen as she has lived on the streets for years so is practised at survival and hiding from humans. She seems to have only been in her home a short while (why not on a lead in the garden?) so won't have built up a bond with her new owner. Added to that her traumatic past will make her keep as far away from people as possible. Driving around at night will be the best chance of seeing her moving from her daytime hiding place. Posters in every village for miles around will help in case she is seen - I'll put some up over my way (Hormeads/Hare Street). One plus point is the weather is on her side , but the vegetation is getting long and lush making her difficult to spot. Poster, poster, poster!!!! Last edited: 2017-05-01 09:53:07 by BaileyP

Alma is a rescued dog from Romania - this dog has been through a lot here in Romania and as a results of all this she is people scared. She will not bite anyone, but she will try to hide if you try to approach her more. She will need an experienced catcher in case someone sees her. Alma used to eat from my hand while being on the streets but she did not let me to touch her ever. This girl endured the cold weather for 4 years while she lived on the streets at -20 Celsius degrees, she is a survivor and I hope she is found safe. I pray all day about her and my tears for her won't stop until I know she is found . Thank you and please keep an eye everywhere possible as she may be pretty far away from the place where she was lost.

3 hrs of cycling, 15 miles covered, flyers handed out. Still no sightings.

We have been out postering the local villages and footpaths. No sightings yet. We are working our way out in distances to try to cover as much as we can. Tomorrow we will be out on the bicycles trying to cover the footpaths and wooded areas. Please any sightings no matter how old or flimsy please message us.

My friend messaged me this on fb Sharon, we saw This dog @ 11.30-12 on the fields between Anstey & Nuthampstead. Followed our two horses for a while, not close enough to get near, then ran off over the fields towards Nuthampstead ...Hope she's found!
